Phiz That's a lovely scan photo. I bet you can't stop staring at it, I know I'm definitely addicted to looking at mine! Smile

Skull theory has been inconclusive for me. Seems more square at the front, but more rounded towards the back! I'm firmly team yellow but like someone else said, I'll be checking out all the theories and see what happens!

fishermanswife1 · 10/07/2015 12:36

This may be a really stupid question... But I just wondered....

The sonographer pointed out my placenta on Tuesday and it was top right of the screen. But would that mean its the Left of my uterus? I.e. it's right when looking at my uterus from above, but that means from my perspective it's on the left. Does that make sense or have I over complicated it?! Basically when you would look at my left arm say, it would be to the right of my body from your perspective

Hi ladies! Posting a quick message from a very warm Italy - haven't had chance to catch up properly but will do when I get home. Can't believe we're on thread six already!

Was hoping for a little bit of advice -we're relaxing by the pool today and I wondered what you all thought about sunbathing? Bad or ok? I've been taking breaks and sitting in the shade and covering tummy up too for periods of time but wondered how careful I should be? It seems like there's more things to worry about on holiday - daft I know!

Sorry for quick message and not catching up first! Hope everyone is ok and scans are going well!!

jmac88 · 10/07/2015 12:51

moon I would say be super careful of getting burnt. I got horribly burnt last weekend because your skin is much more sensitive to UV rays when preggo. But I can't see any harm in it if you've got cream on etc. Good way for baby to get some vit D!

SleepyDragon · 10/07/2015 12:51

Fisher I wondered that, like a mirror, is the left inside you the right on the scan kind of thing?

Moon hope you're enjoying your holiday! Sunbathing wise I think prego ladies catch the sub easier so you're supposed to protect bump a bit more and wear more sunscreen other than that I think you're ok.

Just about to set of for the hospital for our scan - still feeling sick and not at all wanting to drink this pint of water in front of me lol!

moonshine25 · 10/07/2015 13:39

Thanks jmac and sleepy! I'm being extra careful and reapplying more often than I would normally. We're in lake Como now so this is the relaxing part thankfully - Florence was so busy!

Good luck for your scan sleepy!!

crumble74 · 10/07/2015 13:55

Sorry forgot to also wish sleepy and chatty good luck with their scans!

Best of luck also fisher, if you're at the Spire you're in good hands.

Congrats on the great scan phiz

moon Not a good idea to sunbathe, you do burn more easily and it's important you don't get too hot!
Enjoy your holiday, v jealous of you in Bella Italia.

hotcrossbun83 · 10/07/2015 14:14

I have no idea where my placenta is?!

TeenieDeenie · 10/07/2015 14:44

Fish yes you're totally correct, it's like the mirror affect. If I was holding my scan picture in front of my bump/bloat with the picture facing outwards this would show where baby actually is sitting in my uterus. But if I turn it round so I can see it, baby looks like it is on the other side. The mirror affect. I hope this makes sense... It does in my head hahaha! Grin

fishermanswife1 · 10/07/2015 14:59

Yep take care moon just extra sun cream and sounds like you're doing the right thing seseeking shade now and then. Sounds lush, always wanted to go to lake como.

Yes crumble went for spire in the end. Glad to hear good stuff about it. I was being stubborn initially wanting to go with st Michael's, as nhs. I'm so nervous.

Good luck for this afternoons scans all!

Thanks teenie! Ib thought I was being a drip there. Everything from nub, skull and placenta theory points to girl for us but totally know they are just theories. Think I'm wishfully hoping that might be contributing to my high hcg levels, as I've read they're often a bit higher with girls.

Juniper44 · 10/07/2015 15:22

High hcg levels are meant to cause morning sickness, and morning sickness is on the 'list' of girl symptoms.

How can they see where your placenta is if the placenta doesn't form until near the end of the first trimester? It mentions 6 weeks gestation scans, but surely they'd only be a sac at that point?

Juniper44 · 10/07/2015 15:26

My other thought: if the study ran from 1997-2007 and was 97% accurate in a sample of nearly 6,000 women, why is placenta location not used as a simple way to determine gender nowadays, rather than peeking between the legs?

TeenieDeenie · 10/07/2015 15:32

Juniper I would presume that they studied where the sac and tiny bean were at 6 weeks and then placental placement would've been studied at the second interval mentioned at 18-22 weeks? I have no idea, that's just what I took from it.

I completely agree with your second point though, surely this would be an easier way of determining gender if it is so accurate!!!

Brooke113 · 10/07/2015 15:33

Scan went well this morning, going by the theory posted on here, mines male. Baby slept the whole way through. Dates have been adjusted slightly 12w2d today and due January 20th.

MissMartin10 · 10/07/2015 15:35

lovley scan picture phiz you can even see the toes!Smile x

well i finally had my booking appt only took 20mins.. I'm classed as low risk and i had my blood taken and i didn't feel a thing i didn't even know it was done thanks to emla cream its amazing Grin i forgot when she said my scan was though Confused hope my mum remembers

TeenieDeenie · 10/07/2015 15:35

Really hope it is Fish, it'll be interesting to see if any of the 'theories' are actually right for any of us ha ha!

Has anyone heard of (or done) the baking soda gender test??

SleepyDragon · 10/07/2015 15:48

Hi ladies! Just back from scan! Everything good with our lazy little jellybean. NT measured 1.9 and EDD is exactly same at 14 January.

Wasn't till looking at photo whilst waiting for bloods that DH realised scan had wrong name on it! Had bloods and went back up to sonography unit, said what was wrong and had to have another scan lol!

Looks like we'll have to wait till 20wk scan for team pink or blue though as the scan is too blurry on the feet so no nub for us....

Readyforthefuture · 10/07/2015 15:55

Amazing scan results so far, and love the bumps so thought I'd join in. I guess I'm showing so much because there are two there.

Had a brief energy spike and have just scrubbed the house top to bottom (desperately needed as DH has just been keeping us afloat since week 6 when Ms and tiredness starting kicking my ass). Think the crappy work situation is reminding me of my priorities, this will be my babies first home Smile

Jan 2016 #6 ....bumps and blooming ahoy!
fishermanswife1 · 10/07/2015 16:02

Great scan news and nice bump ready.

I only know where my placenta is juniper as donographer pointed it out during emergency scan Tuesday. Wouldn't have a clue otherwise! I agree if it was though to be super accurate it could be used more frequently. But it's a bit of fun.

Teenie what on earth is the baking soda test?

TeenieDeenie · 10/07/2015 16:08

Fish I've just lifted this from babycenter.com - Put a little bit of baking soda in the bottom of a disposable cup and then add a little bit of your urine to it. If it fizzles like a soda pop, it may be a boy. If there’s no fizzle, it may be a girl. What I want to know is, do you have to use fmu? ha ha ha ha Grin Wink

fishermanswife1 · 10/07/2015 16:23

Ha! teenie that's so daft. Though not as bad as the pendulum ring one!

mrschatty · 10/07/2015 16:24

moon I just couldn't handle the heat in France but your ok to sunbathe just apply loads of high factor!
Scan went really well but they put me back a few days edd is now 17th jan! I'm still going to finish work on Dec 21st though!!
NT was 1.8 so I await my results patiently!!!
Skull wise I'm thinking boy- nub cannot tell can anyone hazard a guess?
teenie I can't comment on your theory j asked where baby is positioned...right in the middle of my uterus apparently!!!

Jan 2016 #6 ....bumps and blooming ahoy!
TeenieDeenie · 10/07/2015 16:33

mrschatty baby is keeping you guessing hiding it's nub and firmly keeping a central location! Wink Your picture is sooo clear and so incredibly cute, I love when you can see their little legs, feet and hands! Smile

melonface · 10/07/2015 16:33

Does anyone else have a lot of little stabby pains in their hips and tummy? It's not like period pains , more like trapped wind or mini electric shocks?! I'm so worried for my scan on Tuesday, convincing myself of MMC Confused

So lovely seeing all the bumps and scans today Flowers

kep1979 · 10/07/2015 16:34

mrschatty I agree on the skull - boy (from my very limited googling!), and cannot see any nub so no idea. Are you team yellow or are you planning on finding out?

ready lovely bump - mine is pretty big with only one but my abs gave up years ago as this is dc3!
