Thanks Kep :). I'm quite old (35) which might be why the first result is fairly 'high'.

EdgarAllenPoe · 16/07/2015 12:56

Marvelette

From my (albeit limited) understanding, background risk is the stat you get purely for being you (mainly down to age). Adjusted risk is the stat you get having taken into account your nt measurement and blood test results.

So go by the adjusted risk, which is good news (even though your background risk wasn't high either).

Anyone got any tips for headaches?? Neurofen would've been the only thing that worked for me pre pregnancy - wouldn't have got headaches very often. But have had one yesterday and today, wee bigger just sitting right above my eyes Sad paracetamol does absolutely nothing for me at all.

tinyme135 · 16/07/2015 13:11

He's giving me enough slack as he can but I do need to try a bit harder cause when I get back from work I just slump on the bed watching TV and he wants to try and do stuff together but I tried to explain it's the pregnancy but he said I was like it before then too "/ so I do need to try harder

Marvelette · 16/07/2015 13:13

Thanks Edgar! I am learning so much this pregnancy!!

Tonicandgin · 16/07/2015 13:13

Yok- I find lots of sleep and water helps prevention, but once I have a headache it's a bugger to shift. Paracetamol does work here though if I catch it early.

ValancyJane · 16/07/2015 13:35

I just noticed that OH has carefully positioned one of the scan pictures from yesterday next to his computer monitor. He isn't normally one for displaying photos and things like that. It might just be the hormones, but I am seriously awwwwwing here Smile

Lookingforadvice123 · 16/07/2015 13:38

tonic glad to hear that things went well.

brickie keeping everything crossed for you. A friend had a hematoma which resulted in bleeds at different stages, think it was 6, 9 and 12 weeks. They didn't seem too concerned so hopefully your doctor is just being overly cautious xx

marvelette yes as others said background risk is on age alone. Your overall risk is then on a combo of age, bloods, NT measurement, and I think weight and whether you smoke although God knows why as there's no link between weight/smoking and Down's syndrome. I didn't ring to get my overall risk as I knew I would only analyse the numbers - in my HB the letter just says "low risk".

Smoking and weight will have an effect on the quality of your eggs I assume? That's why it's taken into account, same as the younger you are the better quality of the eggs. X

Blackandwhitecat3 · 16/07/2015 13:46

Marvelette 35 is not old! Grin

Valancy that is so cute.

Yokyll the only thing that works for me with headaches is to lie down in a darkened room and preferably sleep!

Well done Tiny, sounds like you are having a better day. Don't be afraid to take it easy though, someone posted on here that being pregnant is like having a full body workout sitting down doing nothing! I came home every night from work and went to bed until dinner. Do what you can x

I've managed some spring cleaning this morning well I had to, things were beginning to walk out of the fridge on their own so feeling proud of myself, having done absolutely naff all for the last two months Smile I may have a nap this afternoon to celebrate Grin

crumble74 · 16/07/2015 14:08

yokyil I stick one of those sexy Kool n Soothe strips on my head, they work for me but it could be the cold gloopy sensation distracting from the headache!

jane That is very sweet of your OH!

b&w Celebrating with a nap! Oh the decadence of pregnancy! Grin

crumble74 · 16/07/2015 14:12

Just back from my 16 week midwife appointment. In case you're wondering what happens at this appointment - not very much. She asked how I was, if I had any concerns, asks about the 12 week scan, sticks the result from the blood screen from booking in appt in your maternity notes, takes a urine sample & your BP and that's it. I was there for 10mins.

Blackandwhitecat3 · 16/07/2015 14:12

Yesterday I celebrated with a Magnum (full size) Crumble

kep1979 · 16/07/2015 14:18

yokyil I use a hot hot water bottle at the back of my neck, it does help.

marvelette 35 is NOT old.... I am 36 and will be 37 in January Shock

valancy bless your dh! aaawww away Smile

Marvelette · 16/07/2015 14:30

I know its not too old really; if all goes well with this one and I'm not too traumatized by birth/nappies/sleep deprivation I might even try and squeeze another one in (or out!) by the time I'm forty! Grin

brickiemum2 · 16/07/2015 14:32

The hospital phoned and they want to scan me again tomorrow before I go on holiday. My hematoma is slightly more troubling due to it being second trimester and my age (37) Those are both associated with bad outcomes.
I'm still hoping it will still be ok though.

Marvelette · 16/07/2015 14:34

Good luck tomorrow Brickie.

kep1979 · 16/07/2015 14:43

Hope tomorrow goes well brickie

marvelette that's my plan too - I've told dh that I want to be done by the time I'm 40!

tinyme135 · 16/07/2015 14:44

Yeah having a much better day. OH said he's proud I'm going to get help as he doesn't want me getting out of control.

brickie good luck with tomorrow x

Distracted15 · 16/07/2015 14:47

TeenieDeenie - I'd find a maxi dress to wear for the wedding. Im 16 weeks and off to a wedding tomorrow and a christening on Sunday. Maxi dresses all the way! Super comfy.

Brickie - Good luck with the scan

Tonic - Glad your panic is over

lilyb84 · 16/07/2015 15:35

Yokyil as others have said, rest and more rest! A cold flannel helps for me as well, although mostly as a slightly nicer sensation than the headache itself rather than any actual relief from the pain.

brickie while it must be an absolutely horrible, stressful time, I'm glad they're seeing you again and not just leaving you to wait it out. Lots of Flowers and fingers crossed for you.

tiny sounds like you're dealing with it well! My DH and I have periods like that when we're both sniping at each other and it just makes things worse. If you can keep you cool and try to stay calm, it'll help defuse situations before they develop. And glad to hear your OH appreciates the effort you're making Smile

tonic hope you're still in bed and being brought lots of cuppas and biscuits! Glad you've had reassurance.

valancy - so sweet! Our 'telling people gradually' is being derailed somewhat by DH waving our scan picture around willy nilly, it's cute - we've also got it on the fridge, mostly so I can keep reminding myself it's actually real...

Back/hip/top of leg/whatever pain has eased a bit today, still achey and twinging a bit when I walk but nothing bad enough to stop me getting around, hooray. My sister had a horrible pregnancy with SPD that had her pretty much housebound from 5/6 months onwards and I'm really hoping to stay active!

mrsfazruns · 16/07/2015 15:40

brickie sorry you are going through all this worry! Will be thinking of you tomorrow for the scan!!

I have been SO hungry today ... And exhausted!! Can't get enough food in my belly!

tinyme135 · 16/07/2015 15:54

I'm worried incase I do get postnatal depression so rather get help now than when it's too late

lilyb84 · 16/07/2015 16:01

Very sensible tiny Smile
