FIngers crossed for you fischer and brickie.

I have a very 1st world problem that I need your advice on. I came home at lunchtime to a letter from the bank. It seems they have made a mistake with a loan we took out when we bought our house (used it to do repairs). It was a mistake with the statements and informing us that we could now make overpayments etc. etc. So, they've decided to refund us the ?3000 interest we have paid over the term of the loan so far.

So... we now have ?3000 we weren't expecting Grin. Me and DH sat down at the weekend (before this letter came) and worked out what money we could put away to buy things and sorted out how long I could afford to have off. Both very happy with the arrangements we discussed. So, bearing in mind that Baby shopping costs are covered and i'm lucky enough to be having at least 7 months off when baby arrives would you:

  • Spend ?1000 on an 'ok' last holiday abroad, put ?2000 away for additional maternity leave (equivalent of an extra 2 months off)
  • Spend it all on an amazing last adults only holiday
  • Save it all have have 3 months additional time off?
  • Spend half on home improvements and half on a holiday?

I really dont know what to do. The sensible side of me is saying save it all, but I would like a holiday with DH before the baby comes.

brickie glad bleeding has stopped thinking if you glad your home with your family
fisher that's just so weird I hope they reach a conclusion soon!!
tiny stats sheet allows us to keep track of whose who how many babies due dates ages etc so we don't need to keep asking! RE telling your dad - my mum always said to me there are much worse things than a baby if you feel happy then that's the bottom line. Will oh come live with your famil? Imo you need to tell him it'd hurt him more being the last to know

ValancyJane · 14/07/2015 14:47

OK ladies, it's a bit off topic but I need some advice as I honestly can't decide if I'm being all PFB about this or not! I found that the cat had fleas this morning, have subsequently gone to vets and got a comb, spray for the carpets and some more spot-on stuff. I've combed (caught seven of the buggers), done the spot-on, hoovered and boil-washed bedding... but I'm having serious second thoughts about the chemical spray. I talked to the vet nurse about using it in pregnancy, she uhmed and aahed and then said if OH used it and I went out for the day she thought it would probably be fine. I've emailed the company to ask for specific advice, but have heard nothing back yet (I strongly suspect they will say 'don't use it' regardless just to cover themselves!).

Am I being PFB or would you not risk it either in the first trimester? I think OH will want to use it (he hates fleas and isn't bothered by chemicals whereas I try to use chemicals only when necessary). I'm tempted to try chucking a load of salt down and start daily hoovering / combing. What would you do?

Sidenote: Defleaing a cat/house whilst dry heaving makes for the worst sick day EVER.

mrschatty · 14/07/2015 14:47

loveyou BONUS!!!!!! Half on house half on holiday I say!!!

mrschatty · 14/07/2015 14:48

valancy I'd do it and open all windows I used some pretty strong black mould stuff just put a scarf over mouth too

ValancyJane · 14/07/2015 14:51

love What a nice problem to have!! I'd probably save it and have three extra months off work personally - what about spending £1k on a nice holiday for you and OH, and then £2k would get you an extra two months maternity? Lucky you!!

fishermanswife1 · 14/07/2015 14:54

Well done kep! Great news!
To whoever asked about bras, I've already gone from 34c to 36e!!! DH loves it... But its taking some getting used to for me.

tinyme135 · 14/07/2015 14:58

mrschatty how do I add myself on there?

And I was thinking that if he was the last to know it'll hurt him more so I want him to know before my mum (he knows me and my mum and like sisters and tell each other everything). I think I'm gonna say dad I got something for you, give him the scan pic and hope for the best.

mrschatty · 14/07/2015 15:05

Tell them together then your mum can keep his calm haha or is he and mum not together anymore? Click on the link if it's on your phone it gave me the option to install an app called drive to edit it its on a laptop you should be able to edit.
I think you should tell your dad ASAP so he can get used to it! Dies he know your do well? Is he happy that your happy in your relationship x

loveulotslikejellytots · 14/07/2015 15:05

I know, it's a lovely problem to have (and didn't want to sound like I was boasting) but we sat down and worked out everything we could cut out in the next 4 months to save as much as possible for after the baby is born, it wasn't going to be easy. So now to have this it lovely, but I have a feeling that DH will want to blow it all on a holiday!

tinyme135 · 14/07/2015 15:07

Ah I'll add myself on it in a bit.

He loves my OH sees him as another son. He cried and shook his hand when he asked my dad's permission to marry me. If I was with my ex then it would be a different story xD

melonface · 14/07/2015 15:08

B&W sorry to be a pain but can you update my stats for me? Can't get it to work my end. Melon DC #1 due 21st January and I'm in Derby

Phiz hello neighbour!

Blackandwhitecat3 · 14/07/2015 15:10

Pain au chocolat club! Better than the frankfurters. It's especially special for me as I am gluten-intolerant and so don't get these things often.

Valancy strawberries are definitely fruit and cream is valuable dairy protein Smile. I'm on the strawberries too! Also managing avocado, peppers, courgette. Have been on apples, tomatoes and cucumber the who,e way.

tinyme135 · 14/07/2015 15:11

B&W same here please I just tried to do it and it won't let me.

Tinyme135, DC 0, due 10th Jan, 12 week scan date 2nd July, 20 week scan 19th August. From Birmingham.

Thank you xx

Blackandwhitecat3 · 14/07/2015 15:17

LoveU great news Grin! My vote goes for 1k holiday and 2k extra maternity leave.

Yes I will update your stats for you lovelies. If you're on a mobile device the googledocs app will let you edit.

Oh and bras, I started off at 30F and am now somewhere in the region of 34G - for the uninitiated in big boob sizes, when you go up a chest size the cup size goes up without the letter changing I.e. A 30F has the same actual cup size as a 32E etc. so I'm up 4 cup sizes already! No wonde i hâve backache!

EdgarAllenPoe · 14/07/2015 15:18

So this isn't a huge problem compared to some of you ladies, but indulge me I need to rant.

Aaaaargh I've been trying to call HMRC because apparently I don't think pregnancy hormones have quite given me high enough rage levels - figured I needed a rage top-up.

I just can't get through to anyone! I can't stay on hold for more than 25 minutes because I'm supposed to be at work. I get 30 minutes for lunch and I need to eat and it's my 3rd attempt of the day so I'm already taking the piss a little. I've been on hold forever it seems.

They've sent me a lovely tax rebate to my maiden name so I can't cash it. I've been married for 6 years. I just want them to re-issue it correctly. I know you can change your name online (even though all other correspondence is correct) but then the cheque will still be wrong. AAAAARGH.

In good news, I have a massive slice of chocolate cake waiting for me this evening. That thought alone has kept me going.

Phizpop · 14/07/2015 15:21

melon Hi there! [waves] I'm due 20th Jan now (need to go on comp to update stats!) so glad your scan went well!

Blackandwhitecat3 · 14/07/2015 15:24

Valancy if it was me, I'd steer away from those chemicals - I've avoided them so far - not using any in the garden or in the house.

I'd do what you can without it and then if they're still there at the weekend see if you can go out for the day while your OH does the stuff. FYI when I've de-flead a flat before, I've had everyone leave for 24 hours anyway, even though no-one was pregnant. It's not good for you.

Blackandwhitecat3 · 14/07/2015 15:27

All stats updated inc Phiz. Can you tell I'm not at work?!

Phizpop · 14/07/2015 15:33

That was so quick B&W! Thank you!

melonface · 14/07/2015 15:39

Thank you! I'm trying to work but seriously distracted. How are we meant to concentrate on scan day!

tinyme135 · 14/07/2015 15:42

Thank you B&W

I swear my chest is getting bigger. I'm wearing 32f at the moment and they're slowly starting to get squashed by my bras lol

tinyme135 · 14/07/2015 15:43

melon I was like you. After my scan all i wanted to do was keep looking at the little one...oh hang on...that's me now too xD

mrsfazruns · 14/07/2015 15:56

Valency my puppy had fleas last month and I ised the spray! I just made sure my skin was covered up to stop absorption and opened all the windows!

loveulotslikejellytots · 14/07/2015 16:13

Edgar - Try taking it to the bank with your marriage certificate and any other ID you have. I had the same problem until I changed everything. They may well do it anyway.

B&W - for some reason I cant amend the document either on the app or online. Very strange. If you get a chance, could you change my due date to 2nd January, 12 week scan was 26th June and no date for 20 week one yet. Thank you x
