Isla, nerves are normal, sweet'art. You're doing the right thing. Knowledge is power Thanks Do you have any symptoms?

Tiredoftiredness · 27/06/2015 07:47

Thanks eggsnbeans, I still have the scars from my bout of pox when little so hoping I won't catch it again but unfortunately I know quite a few people that have been 'lucky' enough to have it multiple times! Fx the worst I'll have to deal with is a grumpy DS for a week or so.

Agree with rally, food guidelines are not helpful - so much has changed since I was last pg and that was only 5years ago! Thrilled to know I can eat guilt free peanuts this time round though! Also being more relaxed about it this time.

eggsnbeans · 27/06/2015 08:12

I agree most of the risks are very small with food! My basic rules are
Only eat if freshly made and, if eating out it must be really hot
Only eat really fresh things (ie not sitting in fridge for more than 1-2 days)
Wash fruit and veg well
If it can be eaten hot, heat it up

NoMontagues · 27/06/2015 08:27

Grin purdie that's cos a Catholic marriage ceremony is just inserted into a Catholic mass. So you have to sit through the whole mass if you want to see someone get married.

purdiepipesup · 27/06/2015 08:31

I am aware of that Montagues, but why the strange bird at the front veiled in black lace (not the bride, obvs!)? And why no bogs? I was desperate for a shit.

NoMontagues · 27/06/2015 08:42

Confused dunno! Was it is statue of Our Lady or something?

Oh no child you can't get up and go to the toilet! You're meant to have fasted beforehand, I preparation for receiving holy communion. Also if you feel discomfort you can offer it up to the Holy Ghost as a sacrifice! (Bonus)

I'm lapsed now but being a Catholic is great gas! I used to faint at mass on the regular.

Purdie - my symptoms are next to nothing now, hence the worry. Slightly queasy at times but that's all. Boobs back to normal tenderness wise but bigger (and nips are massive), still bloated, and still tired but am putting that down to boredom as signed off work until I'm 12 weeks by GP. What will be will be I suppose. Am seeing parents next weekend to break the news, as long as good news on Tues.

RattyCatty · 27/06/2015 09:53

raaaaah a friend recommended ultrasound direct for a scan. I have one booked in for when I'm 11 weeks just before a wedding as I'm bridesmaid & if all is ok at that scan (Argh nerves) I'll tell the bride as she'll guess immediately if I'm not tipsy on champagne!

mumof3shockedtobecarrying4th · 27/06/2015 09:56

Babybond have done several scans for me with all three of mine. Reasonable prices too.

rallytog1 · 27/06/2015 10:08

Isla I had virtually no symptoms in thr first trimester last time, and it all turned out well. So hopefully you're just having a nice pregnancy this time! Definitely good that you're having a scan though - I hope it'll give you the reassurance you need.

Mumof1sofar · 27/06/2015 10:10

Isla I'm exactly the same - don't feel pregnant at all! God knows how I'm going to wait til 12 weeks! I haven't even got my booking in with the midwife til 22nd July Confused

overreactionemoticon · 27/06/2015 10:12

Hi everyone. Slightly better today, have managed to do some hoovering and everything. I had yesterday off work and slept on and off until 12 and spent much of the afternoon in bed too Blush

The nausea is such a pita, can't think of anything else, forcing myself to eat, retching constantly... But thankfully the most I've vomited in a day is three times so it's not as bad as I know it could be. And symptoms are good right?

Purdie thanks for the seraphina link, lovely stuff.

I'm wearing a jersey maxi dress from last summer today and look a very strange shape! I don't have a bump but its like my stomach muscles have completely vanished Confused

Mumof1sofar · 27/06/2015 10:13

Bigfox glad all is ok. The food I miss most is poached eggs! Love them with a full English!

Rufus200 · 27/06/2015 10:21

At vet school part of our finals is in public health (food poisoning), we all have been made to work in an abbatoir! This is my list of food safety.

Raw chicken packaging is covered in bacteria! This also means the shelves in supermarkets and the trolleys, especially trolley handles! Always disinfect your hands after you have finished using the trolley and before and after you put your shopping away! Supermarkets are unfortunately very unhygienic places! Try not to touch your face when food shopping or you transfer bacteria to around your mouth.

Disinfect your fridge weekly, I know it is a pain taking everything out but that chicken bacteria will be sat growing on your fridge shelf! We now make a date list of everything that we buy so that we don't forget about something at the back of the fridge, it has greatly reduced our food waste.

If something smells don't eat it even if it is within its use by date. If something is passed its use by date but smells ok then you need to decide. (I've just eaten toasted scotch pancakes 2 days out of date)

Tap water has bacteria in it! When you leave a glass of water out for 24hrs that bacteria grows and multiplies, don't drink old water, this includes half drunk bottles!

Don't eat salami/ pepperoni and anything else made with nitrates unless it is cooked in something eg pizza. It is made by taking raw meat and covering it with bacteria then letting it get mouldy! Sounds really appetising doesn't it!

Don't eat mussles when pregnant! I've been put in hospital twice from eating 'fresh' mussels! The food poisoning is horrendous even when you are not pregnant! I would avoid shellfish. Prawns should be fine as long as they are firm.

Don't eat blue cheese or anything else that is mouldly. Be careful of old condiment bottles in your fridge, mustard and mayonnaise, if you can't remember how long it has been in there then throw it out.

If you go abroad don't eat eggs! Anything that has a Lion stamp on it is vaccinated against salmonella. All UK eggs should be. Abroad most aren't, I've had salmonella from freshly made scrambled eggs in a 5 star hotel. It was the worst food poisoning I have ever had! Don't risk it!

Desserts often contain raw eggs, it should be ok in the UK but I wouldn't risk it with homemade ones. Chocolate mousse and ice cream often contain raw eggs in restaurants but most shop bought stuff says pasteurised on the packaging.

Listeria grows at 4 degrees and above in your fridge.

I don't want to frighten anyone that they can't eat for the next 7+ months but most food poisoning doesn't actually come from what you eat but what is around you!

haquoi123 · 27/06/2015 10:32

That's really useful, thanks rufus! I'm vegetarian (thanking my lucky stars after reading your post) but DH isn't, so I'll show it to him and see what he can do. The water one is interesting - I've definitely broken that rule a couple of times :s

Stepawayfromthezebras · 27/06/2015 10:43

Ah, good news about the meringue but it was at a restaurant and a gooey one so I was a bit unsure. Really useful guidelines thanks rufus can I pick your brains about cat sick? (lovely) Cat litter duties have been passed to my DP for the time being but am I ok to clear up hair balls and cat sick?

Rufus200 · 27/06/2015 11:02

Stepaway Yes cat sick is fine, as are cat litter trays! I just wear disposable gloves and wash my hands after. I've had to deal with 5 episodes of cat sick and a poo on the floor in the last week, it is fur ball season. Toxoplasmosis gets so overhyped, you would have to eat cat poo to get infected! Cat scratches are a far bigger risk to pregnant women so all my cats have had a manicure and I thoroughly wash any scratches I do get with soap asap. Remind me in a few months time and I will give you all the steps for preparing pets for a new baby.

haquoi123 · 27/06/2015 11:04

Emily Oster said something like gardening is riskier than changing the cat litter. My poor garden looks very unloved atm...

Bluenewbie · 27/06/2015 11:20

BigFoxLittleFox great news about your little bean's HB!! :) Star

thanks Rufus for this useful info. Does anyone know anything about strawberries? I hear from a nanny that they are porous hence have a lot of toxins in them and can cause allergies in babies(in the future) if eaten when pregnant.

I was really after great (looked gooey) meringue the other day in the work canteen. How can I know if it's made of pasteurised eggs? I feel a bit shy to ask about all the food they've got. and I don' want to announce to some waiter that I'm pregnant.

Bluenewbie · 27/06/2015 11:27

I'm off for my early scan. They called this morning, they have a slot for me today. I'm really scared they won't find anything there.. my discharge even stopped yesterday- will feel like a hoax Hmm

If I'm not back, means it didn't work out this time.

You are lovely bunch f ladies. Wish you all happy PG and healthy babies at the end of it xx

mumof3shockedtobecarrying4th · 27/06/2015 11:32

Bluenewbie I really hope all goes well and that we hear good news from you. Will be thinking of you. Xx

Stepawayfromthezebras · 27/06/2015 11:35

Thanks rufus DP will be very relieved though I may not tell him for the next seven months and good shout on the scratches! The getting them ready for bambino hints will be very welcome, it's going to be a massive shock to their systems!

haquoi DP is sorting the garden out while I'm away at the weekend. I think he likes doing stuff that I possibly shouldn't , makes him feel like he's doing something useful while I'm busy doing all the gestating

WouldRatherHaveCake · 27/06/2015 11:36

Good luck blue

Right then ladies, how do I get on the Facebook group? Who do I harass?

Brummiegirl15 · 27/06/2015 11:43

Rufus am really glad you said that about cat litter. DP has been doing it but on occasions I've had to and worn rubber gloves and washed thoroughly afterwards.

I don't do gardening either....
