I'm having the Harmony test tomorrow morning, and also my scan.

I'll be 10+6. I had Harmony with DS too.

I'm so anxious about the scan but I'm also glad it's finally imminent.

peggysue82 · 08/07/2015 13:29

Just wanted to pop by and say hi as I haven't been on much lately. Just reading back through now to catch up. Nausea has been really bad and ended up going to the doctors this morning as I just couldn't take it any longer. They have prescribed me metoclopramide so fingers x it will start working soon. Had my booking in appointment on Monday..nothing to report just got to wait for my scan date to arrive now.

Brummiegirl15 · 08/07/2015 15:19

Calypso you mean a birthing centre which is completely midwife led. Some of those are stand alone, some are in hospitals.

Being consultant care means I am very much delivery suite only!!

SweetCharlotteRose · 08/07/2015 16:01

Saw midwife today for my appointment to make the booking in appointment (what's the point?) and asked her the about miscarriage risk at 9 weeks and she said it doesn't fall until you hit twelve weeks and is still about 25%?! Not very reassuring. Surely it must decline gradually, it can't go from 25% at 11+6 to 1% at 12 weeks??

QuackQuackers · 08/07/2015 16:25

I'm pretty sure that's complete rubbish Charlotte. There's charts online that show the decline (day by day) of the chances.

However, lots of people find out at 12 weeks as that's when they have their scan.

monkerina · 08/07/2015 16:28

Charlotte, all the scores of medical studies available online say that your midlife is talking bollocks! By 9 weeks, statistically it seems to be around 2% or 0.5% if you've seen a heartbeat. I'd link the studies but I know you'd get worried, so please do just chill and curse her crappy knowledge Grin

Just back from my private scan and all was good! hb of 162, they dated me as 7+5 (which was a surprise, as this time last the NHS dated me as 5+5; either baby Monkey is a fast-growing monster or dating at this stage isn't massively accurate) and I have nice pics which I will attempt to upload once I get home. No sore/bigger boobs and minimal nausea is apparently OK.

Boobear1983 · 08/07/2015 16:39

monkerina congrats on your scan.

charlotte don't look at it as a 25% risk, think of it as a 75% success rate. They're pretty good odds!

NoMontagues · 08/07/2015 17:18

I got a call from the scan place and they offered me an earlier appt tomorrow. Yay! Less time fretting in the morning.

Spent all day so far on the verge of tears, don't know if it's hormones or scan anxiety.

Confused
jellypi3 · 08/07/2015 17:45

Oo montagues are you going to find out the flavour? You can do it so early with the harmony test

jellypi3 · 08/07/2015 17:46

And charlotte that's complete rubbish. The risk reduces gradually each day, and by about week 9 it's around 2%. Then it goes down even slower bit by bit. At my 10w scan the doctors and midwives who did the scan said now it's a good time to tell people because the risk is tiny.

zippyswife · 08/07/2015 17:56

Does the risk reducing week by week only count if you've had an early scan and heartbeat detected?

I haven't had an early scan (yet- not for want of trying- I've phoned and emailed my ultra baby to book but no reply!) and am 8 weeks tomorrow.

primarynoodle · 08/07/2015 18:11

anybody else's financial plan for the arrival of bfp altered because of the budget today?

why do some midwives not want to reassure the women they are caring for?! My midwife at booking in appointment was similarly "whatever" when i said i had been having quite crippling anxiety about miscarriage!

primarynoodle · 08/07/2015 18:13

zippy i dont think so, theres a miscarriage stats table thing based on a metanalysis of medical studies done on miscarriage (type in spacefm miscarriage statistics on google to find it) where the table seems to be based on the risk without an early scan and the descriptors below note a different risk percentage based on early scans at 7,9 and 11 weeks.

PurdiePipesDown · 08/07/2015 18:23

Baby, I do hope this isn't the end for you Thanks

Stocking, what is the latest on that shower of Shit? I'm sorry you are burdened like this and I'm glad you have people who love you. I have to say this marvellous bloke probably has feelings for you, but who cares? Get your support where you can, including here. Not a single person on these threads has a perfect relationship.

Jelly, your story is so amazing - all that blood & clots and look at that baby of yours! Super, super news Grin

I had my third scan today at 10+4 and all was perfect. I'm so grateful for this miracle.

I've been quiet cos I too am having some struggles at home. Life is fucking hard.

cremedecacao · 08/07/2015 18:30

Calypso...

I must have spent way too much time on TTC threads!! I thought it was common baby-making practise to be best friends with your cervix! And yes, very clean fingers gently and carefully inserted to feel for position of cervix. I hadn't been checking since my bfp but thought I'd quickly check!

jellypi3 · 08/07/2015 18:34

Hope your ok purdey x home life shit is crap :( (btw it wasn't me who had all the bleeding, it's was jellytots I think? - sorry!)

NoMontagues · 08/07/2015 18:35

jelly yes I am (please god)! I had DS last year and I found out the gender with the Harmony too.

I found it great knowing so soon. Although funny enough when I had DD (many moons ago) I was dead against finding out and wanted a surprise.

Just hoping all's ok at the scan really.

goneswimming · 08/07/2015 19:00

Can someone tell me a bit more about harmony testing?

Boobear1983 · 08/07/2015 19:09

Hope you're ok purdie

Stepawayfromthezebras · 08/07/2015 19:13

Hello all, not been on the thread for a while, I still have 3 weeks tomorrow till my 12 a bit week scan - feels like aaages!

Had a disconcerting time today when I thought I had a UTI or something dodgy but then realised that I'd eaten asparagus for lunch and that's why my wee smelled awful - phew :)

Littleoakhorn · 08/07/2015 19:24

Big hugs Purdie and congrats on your scan.

As for me, I've got a cold as well as morning sickness. The first trimester is arse. I cannot wait to put on maternity clothes, tell people and start eating for 200.

Rufus200 · 08/07/2015 19:42

swimming this link explains Harmony test also called NIPT by different labs. I'm having mine on Tuesday. You have a scan to check for HB and then a blood test. They check for several chromosomal abnormalities and can also test the sex of the baby, you have to be at least 10 weeks.

www.arc-uk.org/tests-explained/non-invasive-prenatal-testing-nipt

rallytog1 · 08/07/2015 19:49

charlotte your midwife is talking out of her arse. The overall risk in the first trimester is 25% but the risk itself diminishes exponentially every day you're pregnant - so by now it's really low and decreasing slowly. At 9 weeks you're pretty much as safe as you're going to be.

purdie hope you're ok chick. We're all here if you need to vent.

goneswimming · 08/07/2015 19:52

Gosh that's expensive! Is the nuchal fold test much less accurate? I'm 33, will be 34 by February, so I know I'm getting on a bit for a first-timer, but that's a lot of money....

PurdiePipesDown · 08/07/2015 19:52

Jelly, I'm sorry I got confused. So you haven't had any scares whatsoever? I'm so sorry Blush

Littleoak, do I know you from being a Martian?
