I went to a baby shower today, as soon as I said I wasn't drinking I was asked if I was pregnant! I was so shocked by the bluntness by someone I don't even like all I cud manage was no! I feel so bad saying that and I've not felt sick since then. I no its silly but I'm worried I've jinxed it!!

Are anyone else's nipples looking veiny?!

God I feel rough tonight. Like I've been drinking tequila all day. I haven't obviously!

rallytog1 · 04/07/2015 22:56

ratty my boobs look like a bloody road map! Huge blue raised veins are running all across them. It's very attractive, isn't it? Grin

NoMontagues · 04/07/2015 22:57

big I have gained no weight (which is unfathomable to me) yet look very much pregnant.

I had to use all my energy putting an outfit together for tonight (family party) and I think I looked passable-ish but only when I sucked in a lot .

So I spent the evening trying to remember to suck in. I think most people just think I'm still fat from last time, no one said anything and I definitely don't think my mum guessed cos she kept pressing me to "leave the car and have a few drinks".

Obviously I need the car as have terribly important non-negotiable thing to do in the early a.m. mother. Just for god's sake don't ask me what it is Grin

goldmaple · 05/07/2015 01:20

I have a big bump here as well... Although I'm gassy so I think it is mostly due to that... And relaxed ab muscles.

We are on vacation with friends and everyone sits outside after the children have gone to bed drinking wine. And I eat ice cream. No one has mentioned anything though! We haven't been secretive about our hope for a third though.

happy don't worry about saying 'no'!! That person shouldn't have asked! The morning sickness usually goes in waves (hormone surge for a few days, then tapers off ) so try to get lots done while you feel goodGrin

ratty nipples are not any more veiny. Darker colour though. But like rally said my boobs are very veiny, like roadmapsWink

can i ask if anyone has had experience of looking for a job while pregnant?

had a teaching post lined up for september but have declined the job offer now because me and dp have decided to relocate back to home town.... i am probably going to apply to nurseries (and failing that supermarkets, pubs, anything...) to start in september so will be approx 16-17 weeks when i start so...

a) are they obliged to offer me materinty leave - i know i wont qualify for smp i just want to know if i would get the leave or my contract would be terminated as id of only worked there for 4 months once i went on ml

b) should i tell them im pregnant/ will it be obvious - will this be akward?

i just feel like if i dont tell them its very sneaky and might affect working relationships etc but if i do i might not get a job at all (which isnt an option!) Sad

QuackQuackers · 05/07/2015 08:29

primary I believe as long as you are an employee you qualify for maternity leave. As you say, you wouldn't though qualify for smp.

I'd probably not say anything. You should be able to dress for interview at that stage so they can't visibly see you are pregnant.

Personally, I would tell them after you have received an offer (when you accept). That way you've been open before you start and will be covered for health and safety etc etc.

I'd probably be careful to avoid applying for jobs that regularly get altered for h&s reasons during pregnancy, e.g. where you're expected to carry anything, where you have to stand your entire shift, where you do extreme late or early shift times.

Depending on your skills I'd probably try and do something high value low frequency. Could you do supply teaching? or office temperature work?
Good luck with the job hunt!

primarynoodle · 05/07/2015 08:44

the problem with supply is i cant afford to buy and insure a car without a steady wage.

also as i wont qualify for smp we will need to get tax credits to survive after baby's born so i need to make sure i dont earn too much... its an absolute joke! Id rather be earning more now to save up but if i earn say 2500 rather than 2300 IN TOTAL between september and feb we would get about £30 per month rather than £300 which is ludicrous but there we go...

although the plan may change again on july 8th!

oneconfusedchick · 05/07/2015 08:46

Re sickness - can i hopefully reassure those without sickness - during my first pregnancy I had absolutely NO sickness, not in the beginning middle or end of pregnancy! I have a healthy 23 month old boy! This pregnancy however I do have a lot more nausea but still no sickness. Try not to worry if you don't Have anything - it won't help! I went through 9 months of DS with only tingling nipples at start of pregnancy and then nothing until he was born. This pregnant I didn't even have the tingling nipples! I hate feeling nauseous now though and would prefer my symptomless pregnancy now anyday! Xx

NoMontagues · 05/07/2015 08:52

primary I started the contract I'm currently on on the 9th June, so I was about 6 weeks at the time. I haven't told them yet, my plan was to wait until about 16 weeks.

I did research the legalities and moralities of taking up a position while pregnant and most of the advice was as quack says above, tell them after you receive the job offer. They cannot legally then withdraw the offer and everyone knows the situation before you start.

I actually decided not to say at that point as it was too early days and I just didn't want to have the conversation. In any case, this is the company that I worked for for nearly 2 years before having DS so I know the lay of the land (I had resigned from my previous post though so this is effectively a new employment iyswim).

But I think at 16 weeks and to a new employer I would have mentioned it at the offer stage- all the advice is against saying anything during the interview.

primarynoodle · 05/07/2015 09:06

ok i will say at job offer stage if i get there Smile

thanks for the advice! cant believe how expensive it is to move - was quoted £600 in FEES for a tenancy contract that was £500pcm yesterday, that didnt even include fm rent or deposit Shock Angry

Thanks to everyone else that has already moved/is planning on moving during pregnancy its so stressful

HarimadSol · 05/07/2015 09:07

Primary, would you qualify for maternity allowance?

www.gov.uk/maternity-allowance/overview

SweetCharlotteRose · 05/07/2015 09:17

Thank goodness Brummie, huge huge congratulations. I'm so very pleased for you xx

Just trying to catch up with everyone's news. Have stayed away for a while as I'm feeling very negative again - I just don't think this will be my take home baby. I'm contemplating booking another private scan as the nhs one is three weeks away (I'm 9 weeks today). If something's happened I'd rather know.
In other news I weighed myself this morning expecting to have put weight on as I feel huge but I've lost nearly half a stone - just below 9 stone now. I guess it's because I must be eating less due to feeling nauseous all the time and I've gone off anything sweet altogether.

HerewegoagainRound4 · 05/07/2015 09:17

How's everyone doing today?

haquoi123 · 05/07/2015 09:50

Dreams dreams dreams! I dreamed I had a scan and I was suddenly at 21 weeks, so missing the scary 19 week time when ds died. But then I thought, wait that means that my cervix hasn't been monitored at all, who knows what's going on there?! So had another scan I they said the baby was very sick and not responding correctly to the right stimulus. Then a jump to trying to do a poo and Rihanna (the pop star) was egging me on, but all I could do were tiny bits of plastic like poo and there was a long, agitated queue for the toilet... Then lots of killing and blood and gore... Baby what are you doing to me?!

But it has got me thinking - they're going to monitor my cervix every month, but I went from closed to fully dilated in three weeks last time, so surely I should be monitored more? Think I'm going to make another reflexology appointment, see if she can calm me down again

NoMontagues · 05/07/2015 09:51

I think that's mad primary . I worked in resi letting a for years and here in Ireland you never charge a fee to the tenant, the landlord pays all fees.

Deposit is usually collected at the let agreed stage and then first month's rent is due on the day the tenant gets the keys.

We have quite strict regulations here though. I heard somewhere that the letting industry is unregulated in the UK? Must leave tenants open to exploitation especially when there's competition for properties.

NoMontagues · 05/07/2015 09:52

lettings not letting a! Silly ipad.

NoMontagues · 05/07/2015 09:54

cremedecacao · 05/07/2015 10:21

I had my first bout of real nausea last night at 6+1. Who knew night time sickness was a thing?! I am partly blaming the heat, my house is so, so hot Sad

Primary- agree that you shouldn't mention your pregnancy til after the interview. i will be 16 weeks at the start of term too. Parents have met me so will probably spot the bump if I have one by then! I teach Reception so I'm a bit worried about annoying new mums and dads! Hey ho, our lives have to come first.

clumsypots · 05/07/2015 10:27

We finally moved house yesterday yay! One of my best friends guessed yesterday though as I was sat on the bathroom floor instead of cleaning it trying not to be sick from the smell of the cleaning products.

haquoi123 · 05/07/2015 10:33

Congrats clumsy! I do not envy anyone who has to move house at this point, no siree, and have utmost respect!

Pixie1985 · 05/07/2015 10:51

Hi guys can I join?

Due early feb but had no scans or anything yet so just my estimate, I was expecting a booking appointment through as I'm 9+2, does that seem late to anyone?!

1st baby and a little freaked out as have no symptoms at all so far Confused

primarynoodle · 05/07/2015 11:00

montague its disgusting what letting agents get away with in the uk, exploiting tenants doesnt even come close!

harimad i will qualify for maternity allowance if i earn at least £30 pw between now and a week before my due date (was a student with a very casual cash in hand job - serves me right now!) and i really need to be earning at least 150 pw and not too much more than that if i can help it for tax credits.

i feel like an arsehole for "playing the system" with trying to control earnings etc but if we dont do that we essentially screw ourselves over financially when im on ml!

anyway thanks for the advice, nausea seems under control today so im going to blitz the house instead of lying horizontal on the sofa! Anyone else got exciting plans for today?!
