Welcome, welcome, welcome to the 31st grads thread... celebrating the success of Just Shagging in getting us viroids upduffed!

For those that don't know, a 'viroid' is from the original JSing thread 1, where someone was trying to type ladies (in reference to all the JSing ladies), but their phone decided to call us all viroids instead!

The name stuck and we've been the JSing viroids ever since.

The thread we have graduated from is here in its 49th outing. WARNING: they're all a bit kerazy not to mention randy!

There is also a Just Mumming thread here for once your babies come along, or to keep up with the graduated graduates!

There is also a private facebook group (so it doesn't give the game away in your news feed!)... if you want to join to see photos of new babies etc, just ask in-thread!

Here is the stats list, please update your own spot with any updates: Stats

Survived ikea, John Lewis, mothercare and babies r us. And only fell out with DH once.
Only managed to buy new bras, gym ball, decorating stuff and crib mattress. But pleased as I now think I know what furniture we could get from ikea, (though I'll still keep an eye on eBay and gumtree for bargains).
Keen to go try out paint testers now!

Toast85 · 28/06/2015 18:05

Niff that's rubbish! Can you phone first thing tomorrow and see if you can still have an appointment tomorrow?

Jc can you do a phased return to work, like just half days for a week to see how you get on?

Jcandy · 28/06/2015 18:19

I'm not sure what's allowed. Got an appointment with occupational health but it's not till 20th July. I think if I did that I'd have to use annual leave or take unpaid leave and I'm not keen on either of those options. I'll see what the GP suggests.

I was looking at ikea for furniture. It seemed pretty good value for the cost but wanted to check out the quality as it can be variable. Also was wondering about a cot or a cot bed. Ikea only do cots.... does anyone know how long a cot is likely to last?

gaggiagirl · 28/06/2015 18:27

Cots dont last too long but they serve a purpose. Cot beds however.....years. DD was in hers from 3 months til she was 3 and a half, she could easily still be in it but I got a new bed so she got my old double. Baby will get cot bed now.

Jcandy · 28/06/2015 18:41

Do they just grow out of cots sooner then?

Toast85 · 28/06/2015 18:51

What sort of size do you consider a cot bed that would last until toddler- hood or beyond? Because some of the ones in ikea you could take off one side and have the mattress set low near the ground- I thought that looked like it would then be a bed for a small person for a few years anyway. Granted yes the more expensive ones in other shops looked a little larger but not by loads.

batfish · 28/06/2015 18:57

Mat leave is booking up fast - of the hopefully 4 months I will get I have my mum for 5 weeks and my dad joining for a week of it and then the in laws for 2 weeks over Christmas and NY and then SIL and her hubby and baby for a week and a friend wants to come and stay as well, am exhausted just thinking about it!

Jcandy · 28/06/2015 19:06

Yeah toast they are the ones I saw. The cot beds are 20cm longer and 10cm wider but I don't know what that relates to in child age

Wow sounds busy bat!!

ChatEnOeuf · 28/06/2015 19:18

Our cotbed lasted until DD was 3. She would still fit now, but like Ga we got a new bed and DD got our old double.

Pisghetti · 28/06/2015 19:32

I have an ikea wardrobe and changing unit in the nursery. Both pretty cheap but I'm really impressed with them. It's the hensvik range (I think?) - the changing table is a bookcase with an add on bit for an extra £10. So when you're done needing a changing table it goes back to being a bookcase. I got some storage boxes for it to keep nappies and wipes when I buy in bulk. I have a cot bed for my place and we have a cot in DP's. When we eventually live together the cot bed will come with us. She's in a crib in my room at the moment which was an inspired purchase as she doesn't sleep too well in a Moses basket. Cribs are slightly larger than Moses baskets so it should definitely last her until I'm ready to move her into the nursery. Ga I completely get where you're coming from. My house is entirely mine, his house is entirely his. I think he thinks I'm going to sell when we move in together but that's not happening unless he wants to put a ring on it quite frankly. I went though some pretty tough times with DS and I'm not going to be in that position again.

gaggiagirl · 28/06/2015 19:41

Too right pis!!!! We have to protect ourselves. Once bitten twice shy and all that. I like the idea of having my own assets. I cant wait to have something and start fresh.
JC yeah you wont get as many years out of a cot. The cot bed is a cot, then take the sides off and lower it to a toddler bed like toast says.

honeysucklejasmine · 28/06/2015 19:42

We are going to get an ikea cot and changing table. Already have the wardrobe so don't need any extra storage, just a surface!

I don't know if we'll do crib or Moses basket, but totes going to get one of those pootle pods or whatever they're called. Friend got one and is simply raving about it, constantly.

Purpleball · 28/06/2015 19:43

We got a cot bed as my nephew lasted til he was 7 in his. We've just assembled it today with drawer underneath for extra storage and cot top changer Smile

WilHarlot · 28/06/2015 20:11

Generally all cots are the same size and all cotbeds are the same size in the UK. Except, helpfully, for IKEA ones who have their own sizing going on so you'd have to get a mattress from them also. Cotbeds generally last until about 4 although obviously can be less or far more depending on size of child. I reckon MiniWil would probably fit in hers until she's at least 5 but we'll probably steal it for the littler one at some point. Cots probably do up to about 2.

If you haven't bought yet, I really would advise crib over moses basket - you'll be lucky to get more than three months out of a moses basket.

gaggiagirl · 28/06/2015 20:12

Ooh ooh forgot to mention that the minions movie was really really funny. If anyone is going, go at night when it wont be heaving. If anyone is going with children then pre book. They were lining up out the door at the cinema and nearly all shows were full. Also all the staff in Tesco were dressed as minions for minion weekend.

DulcetMoans · 28/06/2015 20:35

The trees are stupidly tiny wil, aren't they?! Were your ones worth it? I clearly want a tree that is a tree, not what is basically a bush!

It was a sad situation at the time but absolutely the best result to be raised by grandparents jelly! All the love and treats I needed.

tee loves poodlepod too honey, mine is here and looks good but not used it practice. Had to say it out loud today for first time, turns out it's not poodlepod at all, it's poddlepod! Hadn't noticed.

That's awful niff, you haven't got the time to try and change it either really. Will you work around it and go Tues or try and move again?

App just went all scatty and I could only find JS grads thread 9 from June 2014. I think that might have been the last one I was on from first pregnancy. Didn't read it all but wil and popz were pregnant and we were trying to figure out gender on min scan by nub theory so I was absolutely on it. Don't want to read it all though, I don't think I made it to the end of that one. But try not to think of that!

I fully advocate sidecar type cribs too, H is really happy in hers and it'll last her until we move her into her own room at about 7 months (doing it after a holiday instead of at 6 months, then going away, seemed like less changes for her!)

Oh, and we've got a huge tree off of Etsy, took a lot of finding though, hang on..pic number 2 coming up!

ZylaB · 28/06/2015 20:52

And remember that poor baby who died in a sidecar crib with head over the little lip? Well you can see on the pic of mine, the lip is level with our mattress, so there's nothing she can get her neck caught on, if you see what I mean? All she can do is headbutt our mattress if she wanted to lift her head up Grin

jellypi3 · 28/06/2015 21:07

Wow zyla your nursery is stunning

Purpleball · 28/06/2015 21:11

Love the nursery Zyla Smile the mural is fab

We've been given 2 Moses baskets and a swinging crib. So the crib will go in our room, a Moses basket downstairs for daytime sleeps and a Moses basket at my mums.

Just been through all the stuff and found what appears to be an electric breast pump, a manual breast pump, loads of bottles, tests and breast milk storage pots. Presumably I can just give it all a good wash and sterilise it. It's all come from SIL and her cousins so I'm comfortable using it

honeysucklejasmine · 28/06/2015 21:12

I like the idea of a side car crib, but not of spending £150+ on one. I'd rather have a normal one and save the cash! I'm really tight

ZylaB · 28/06/2015 21:12

Luckily I put all the sticker/transfer thingies up before my bp shot up and I was hospitalised lol! That said, don't fret if nurseries aren't done, all we use it for is changing her bum and putting her in the cot when we run a bath, cos she's in with us, so it's lovely to have it ready, but not essential if things get in the way :)

Fleurchamp · 28/06/2015 21:22

I am hiring a bednest honey I think it's about £80 for 6 months and includes the mattress.

I know it's the one that the poor baby died in earlier this year but having read the press releases etc I am confident that if the instructions are followed it will be safe.

The more I look at baby stuff I realise everything is a potential death trap Shock

Your nursery is lovely zyla

ZylaB · 28/06/2015 21:25

fleur that's what I was saying about raised edges, you can make sure they don't stick up over the level of your bed quite easily then there's no worry at all, it means H's bed is a tiny bit lower than mine, but I can still reach in and touch her or pick her up for a feed :)
