Frolic - that sounds promising!!!

Dozy - keep the faith! Induction is a long process anyway, can take up to 2 and a bit days in all. My advice is just to go with the flow and try and relax as much as possible. And you'll deffo know when it's a contraction!
Joskar - thank you for your post. It's good to know I'm not a total loonie for feeling like that. Logically I know I'm doing ok but hormonal brain always wins over reason!!

Frolicacid · 11/08/2015 12:17

Just back from the midwife. She breezily informed me that he's nowhere near engaged and she doesn't think we'll be Meeting him for a good few weeks. Then she gave me the info pack for induction.
I cried all the way home.
Time to pull myself together I think.

Equimum · 11/08/2015 12:35

Dozy, sorry the induction has been so slow to take effect. Hopefully things will speed up this afternoon and you'll be losing your little one really soon.

Frolic, that must be so disappointing to hear, especially after your 'signs'. Can you do something nice to treat yourself and make yourself feel a bit more positive?

Joskar, I hope you get to meet with the Hypnobirthing teacher in time. We had a really good experience using hypno last time round.

I took DS to a play session this morning and got talking to a woman who us 11 days overdue! I'm suddenly realising that it could still be a couple of weeks until LO arrives Sad. I have the midwife tomorrow so I am hoping that she is more optimistic.

Galaxy2014 · 11/08/2015 13:46

Afternoon ladies,
Dozy fingers crossed things start moving for you. Just think you'll be meeting your bundle of joy soon!
frolic Awwww don't worry - your baby may just be being a bit stubborn then will engage quicker than the mw thought. You should plan to do something, go out somewhere and enjoy yourself a bit before the new addition arrives. Might help take your mind of it. I would love to know an exact date when he'll arrive as now I'm so unsure about what plans I can make!

I have my midwife apt late this afternoon. Already been in a panic as realise I don't have a pot to wee in to take with me so now need to go with a full bladder and do it there. Daft I know Smile

I had a good weekend other than a very wiggly child who is making it very clear he can't get comfy so is making sure I can't get comfy! My mum has been over just helping finishing the nursery (hanging curtains etc) She's been fab - very excited but she's a great help.

Today dug out the pram we bought months ago and reminded myself how to use it (also to get my Labrador use to it - who has no idea what is going on. Typical lab, soft and dippy)

However question for you ladies - have any of you suffered from thrush or piles towards the end? I seem to have been landed with both! But I have a neat bump and no swollen ankles (yet) so I think that's my body revenge to say you will get more uncomfortable pregnancy systems! Lol.
Hope you are all enjoying the sunshine. X

Frolicacid · 11/08/2015 14:07

Thanks equimum and galaxy. I think I'm just tired. My friend is coming over in a bit and we'll go for a dog walk with a coffee and cake stop - I'm hoping that helps with the baby's position and my mood!

I've had both in recent weeks galaxy. Such a glamorous time!! My recommendations are tea tree for the thrush and plenty of prunes for the piles Smile

Galaxy2014 · 11/08/2015 14:24

Oooh will try tea tree - Thanks! - just bloody annoying! I feel fat and then this happens - def not sexy. However hubby doesn't seem to care which I guess is a good thing.

Hope you have a nice time with your friend - get a giant piece of cake! (I know I would)

Iwishicouldflyfarfaraway · 11/08/2015 16:19

How do you use the tea tree frolic? Although I'm not sure if mine is thrush or reaction to the different toilet paper I bought.

Galaxy I'm also wary of making of making plans, just in case , but as it's the summer holidays and I'm on leave my other children are really excited about going out and doing things- at least parks have benches for me to sit down.

Frolic mum I'm sure baby doesn't need to be engaged for labour to start even if it's your first so it could still happen, fingers crossed the dog walk gets things moving .

Galaxy2014 · 11/08/2015 17:59

Just got back from my midwife apt - all ok but she's booked me in for two weeks time ( so I'll be 4 days over due then) and she mentioned that they like to examine and do a sweep - don't particularly fancy it but will see what happens. She didnt give me a time line of when he will arrive but she said some babies don't engage until you go in to labour - so frolic take what your midwife said with a pinch of salt. It's all up to baby to decide what they want to do.

Equimum · 11/08/2015 18:42

Galaxy, you can still use canestan treatment for thrush if you want to try it. I seem to have a recurrent bout and have been prescribed pessaries and cream at 39 weeks. Glad your midwife appointment went okay.

Frolic, I hope you feel a bit better for your walk and cake.

I'm only making short-term plans with people who I know will be helpful if anything kicks off. This means mostly meeting up with local mummy friends and trying to exercise my hyper toddler.

Frolicacid · 11/08/2015 20:34

Thanks galaxy. It's interesting how the things they say differ, isn't it. Good to know that labour could start if he's not engaged. My next appointment is on my due date and she said I can have a sweep then if he's engaged. I'm not sure if I'll bother.

iwish, I just put some tea tree in the bath or diluted on a tissue to wipe. Like equimum said, you can use canesten when pregnant. I had it from the gp. But the thrush kept coming back until I started using the tea tree as well.

Thanks for all your nice words today. I know I'm just being emotional and irrational. I'm only 39 weeks Friday so plenty of time. It's just that I have a family history of early labour, and everyone is expecting me to go early. I'm expecting to be late, but didn't like to hear it from the midwife for some reason Confused.
I had a lovely afternoon gossiping, walking the dogs and eating biscuits with my friend. My hips are killing tonight however. And my fanjo is really sore, like I've banged it or something. Very strange. Has anyone else had it?

ElleyBear13 · 11/08/2015 20:43

Hello everyone, sorry I haven't logged in on here in a while. Hows everyones bumps and babies? Im 38 weeks today, mw did a sweep on me yesterday at 5pm...2cm dilated and she could feel babys head. So far just normal hicks, but had brown mucusy discharge since yesterday and it doesn't seem to be letting up! Has anyone else had a sweep? I'm trying not to get to hung up on it working as i still have two weeks till my due date. Humph! As the poster above me said it is like waiting the two week wait all over again :(

Equimum · 11/08/2015 20:47

Frolic, my midwife has also said that you don't necessarily engage until going into labour.

Also thanks for the reminder about tea tree. I completely forgot you had mentioned it to me and the thrush returned within three days of my last treatment. When I went back for another prescription yesterday, I stressed I was anxious about giving birth with the soreness of thrush and the GP quite abruptly told me that it was going to hurt anyway, so I probably wouldn't notice Shock. Although I know giving birth is not comfortable, I was trying to minimise additional issues!

Iwishicouldflyfarfaraway · 11/08/2015 20:51

Thank you frolic , I will give that a try. I understand your impatience I'll be 39 weeks tomorrow but have been convinced the entire pregnancy I would have delivered by 38 weeks .... Oh well only a couple of weeks left .

Galaxy2014 · 11/08/2015 21:08

Elley How come your mw did a sweep at 38 weeks? Or is that coz of the hicks? Sounds like it's all go - exciting Smile No sweep for me yet. What does mw actually do?

Equimum I know what you mean about trying to clear the thrush before baby comes. That's what I'm trying to do but getting fed up with it all.

Frolic I've not had a sore fanjo (other than thrush) Maybe it's all the walking and baby pushing down making it hurt? I know I ache round there when walking but I think it's more position of the baby pressing down. Might be that your baby is getting in to place to come out! Smile

I think this will test my patience when the baby wants to arrive. I like to plan so would love to know the exact date when he'll arrive! Ah well. Will try and enjoy the peace n quiet before he comes along.

Frolicacid · 12/08/2015 11:29

Welcome back elley. I hope you are keeping well? That all sounds very promising. Hopefully you won't be waiting too long.

Your gp sounds like a bit of a knob equimum. Not the best choice of words for a heavily pregnant lady.
I hope you're feeling better today. Thrush is the worst.

I've obviously woken up on a better side of the bed this morning and feel much more rational than yesterday. My hips and Fabio aren't that sore and I've told my inner control freak to shut up for the time being. We have glorious weather again today so I'm off to meet a friend at the beach once I've done a bit of housework.

Have a good day everyone Smile
I hope it's all going ok for dozy Flowers

Fanby · 12/08/2015 11:50

Morning/nearly afternoon! Not much on the agenda for me today. Didn't sleep one iota so a nap will be in order i'm sure. I'm going to batch cook some vegetable lasagne, was supposed to do it yesterday but couldn't be bothered...I have stripped the beds and put washing on so least i'm getting somewhere...
I've got a couple of friends who are 'harassing' me to meet up this week. It's super kind and very sweet but I just want to relax in my own home alone rather than have to play hostess etc. I do have something on everyday to avoid the 'waiting' game but I just don't fancy trekking across London to visit people and now it makes me feel guilty/rude and that I should be enjoying the freedom to get out and about whilst I can.

Galaxy2014: Glad the mw went well and you managed to get your nursery finished! Fortunately i've managed to avoid the thrush and piles – I do have the swollen feet and ankles though!

Frolicacid: Hope you're feeling happier about everything today, sounds like your afternoon after was a good one full of support. I too have those kind of pains, proper feel like i've been kicked up the crotch!

OMC1: That's good that the leakage wasn't waters! I'm going to ask mw tomorrow when I see her about mine as the levels of 'juice' have proper intensified :S! How are you finding changing your sitting position? Do you think baby has shifted?

Equimum: you can't beat a caterpillar cake!! A personal favourite of mine :D Hope the midwife goes well today, I can't imagine being 11days overdue either...eshk!

pinkie87: Glad you got the all clear for the reduced movement, fantastic news that he's 2/5th's engaged too! I have the same 'fears' about visitors post birth too...

Equimum · 12/08/2015 17:14

I hope you got your lasagne made Fanby. I can understand you not wanting to trek across London at this stage. Don't feel guilty about it. I found that after the first few weeks, I was more comfortable getting out with a baby than I was when heavily pregnant. I'm not sure I'll feel the same about getting out with a baby and bolting-prone toddler, though Smile.

I'm glad you're feeling brighter today Frolic. The emotional roller coaster of late pregnancy really isn't much fun, is it?

Elley, I hope you've had some more positive signs after your sweep. I'm afraid I don't have any personal experience of them.

My usual midwife was on holiday today so I was seen by a stand-in. The appointment was very short, but everything was okay and she was confident the baby is now fully engaged Grin. She made me an appointment for next week but seemed to think I was unlikely to need it. I'm not going to get too excited, though, as last time they kept saying they didn't expect me to go over and I did. I completely forgot to ask about the sweep/ induction timescale here, but two of the mum's at our weekly play date today said they weren't induced until EDD+12, so I'll assume that might still be the case.

I hope the lack of news from Dozy is a positive sign that she has made good progress. If you are checking in, I am thinking about you.

Fanby · 12/08/2015 17:39

Lasagne is in the oven :D I made 6 (rather large Confused) individual portions. Hurrah i've achieved something :).

Equimum: Yes i'm excited to get out with the pram and baby I must say! I can't imagine how many extra pairs of eyes you need with a toddler in tow too :D
Great news that baby is engaged! I bet you're waiting with baited breath now!! How far over did you go last time if you don't mind me asking?

Equimum · 12/08/2015 19:59

Fanby great work with the lasagnes. That sounds like the perfect post-birthing food. I only went 6 days over last time, but I'm not a patient person.

Fanby · 12/08/2015 20:29

'Only 6 days over' lol, I don't think I'm going to be able to handle that at all, I'm not even overdue yet Smile

Frolicacid · 12/08/2015 20:49

Great work on the lasagna fanby. We only have a small freezer, but I could get a few things in if I pully my finger out and do a bit of sorting. Dh is veggie and has to avoid tomatoes at the moment due to a stomach problem. This has left me a bit stumped as to what to cook - usually it would be chilli, bolognaise, lasagne etc. it feels too hot for stews and stuff at the moment.
I hope you managed to catch up on some sleep?
Don't feel bad about wanting to stay at home at this stage. I kind of regret making plans for every day this week and will definitely be spending more time vegging out at home from next week.

you sound so calm about only 6 days over equimum! I'm not 39 weeks yet and already going out of my mind!!
I was just saying to dh last night that I'm sure walking and sitting would be easier with the baby out and in his pram / sling / cuddles. I'm sooooo uncomfortable now.
Glad your midwife appointment was good. Let's hope you won't need that next one Smile

Late pregnancy really is an emotional roller coaster. I'm like a different woman today from yesterday. Physically and mentally. I spent a lovely afternoon on the beach with my friend and her beautiful baby. I didn't make it into the sea as the tide was too far out and I couldn't face waddling all that way.

I hope you've all had a good day? It's pretty quiet here today - are you all off having your babies?
Dh and I are going to pack some blankets and drive out to a secluded beach to watch the meteor shower in a bit. Should be fun!

Galaxy2014 · 12/08/2015 21:47

You are good with batch cooking - I haven't even thought of that! But I also dont have the motivation for it....lol
Had a nice day having a BBQ with family this afternoon in the sunshine and that's all today.
Hope all your lovely ladies are doing ok and not feeling too uncomfortable. I know I'm feeling it when I try to get up off a chair or sofa - feel like I need handles everywhere to pull me up Smile

mzzzf · 12/08/2015 21:57

Get you well organised folk with your batch cooking! Smile You will so appreciate it in a couple of weeks.
frolic watching the meteor shower sounds so romantic. I have realised recently that I more so in love with my DH seeing him being a dad is beautiful. But I really miss spending time with him, there is literally no time alone together really. So what I'm trying to say is enjoy it all now!!!

Bad news for me is that I think my
CS wound has opened a bit and is leaking a lot - having to go to the doctors tomorrow to get it looked at. Such fun!

Really hope you're doing well Dozy if you're reading this!!!

sianihedgehog · 12/08/2015 22:15

I'm in my new house!! And some stuff is unpacked!!

40+3 today and saw the midwife this morning. Was offered a sweep, but said no as I reckon that the stress of moving just put the brakes on everything. I'm pretty sure I lost part/most of my mucous plug on Saturday, and the midwife says baby is 3/5 engaged. And also over 90th percentile for bump size, she's said to expect an 8lb baby. She seemed somewhere between impressed and horrified that I am still so active, so I've taken that as an excuse to slow down a bit today, and haven't been lugging any boxes!

Terribly impressed with all the batch cooking and preparedness - I went to the shop and bought some frozen ready meals that will just have to do!

Dozygirl · 13/08/2015 00:14

Hello everyone!! Sorry I've taken so long to post. Feel like Ive been on my phone constantly updating everyone and people messaging me etc.

So here's my birth story lol!!

Well after the 24 hours of pessary I felt sure it hadn't done anything as I was only getting constant period type cramps that occasionally intensified. So midwife said she'd examine me and either I'd be dilated enough to go delivery suite and break my waters or I'd have to have a different type of tabet inserted to bring it on some more.

She examined me and I was 2-3cms dilated according to her so therefore ready to have waters broke. There was a queue for delivery suite so I wasnt hopeful it would be soon. However bp shot up again and ctg trace was poor so they decided to ring delivery and ask if I could come down now. I'd been lying quite flat when they did the trace and my lunch arrived at this time so in sat up.to quickly eat bits of it and whilst I sat up trace improved. Decided to still send me to delivery anyway because of bp so it meant I was a bit of a queue jumper heehee.

Got to delivery. BP improved. Trace improved. Midwife examined me to give me a sweep and break my waters. Omg most painful thing in the world because basically my cervix was not at all ready to have waters broken. And I was only 2 cms. But she did it anyway. I had gas and air at this point because it was really difficult for her to do it. My cervix is posterior and I have a narrow something which makes it difficult for them to reach. Such a weird feeling when your waters finally go though.

Contractions started slowly pretty much as soon as waters were broken. Felt quite attacked when i first arrived tondeliveey because had that done then had x3 attempt at a cannula in order to start drip. Told them I was happy for an epidural which they advised anyway due to my high BP but said had to wait for contractions to become regular. Only seemed to be about half an hour before they came in and started epidural so thankfully I didn't have very long at all at feeling proper contractions.

Epidurals are totes amazing! I felt so relaxed after it was in. Could feel pressure of contraction but no pain. U can give an extra bolus every 20 mins which take the pressure away. Anesthetist told me to keep on top of boluses but I wish I'd ignored that because when it came to pushing I didn't know i was having contractions so my advice would be not to have the boluses if u can manage.

You're permanently monitored when being induced and I couldn't move around because of epidural but that was ok. Best rest id had in ages.

Baby heart rate wasnt picking up very well on ctg so after 6 hous of being on drip midwife put a clip on baby's head instead. She examined me while she was doing that which she hadn't planned on doing for another 2 hours and it turned out I was 10cms dilated! So it had worked pretty quickly. They then leave u 2 hours after being fully to allow baby's head to get further into birth canal on its own or something. So I just there waiting for the moment to be told when to push. It was all very surreal because of the epidural.

I pushed for an hour and then midwife had to get doctor to examine me to see what was happening. Turns out her head was actually sideways so I wouldn't be able to push her out. So decision made for forceps in theatres. I actually found it all quite a positive experience despite it becoming medicalised. Everyone was lovely and took care of me really well and put me at ease. So in theatre they upped my epidural so was even numb'er. I had to push as the doctor pulled on the forceps. Was a weird sensation but I pushed well and she came out into the world at 23:12 weighing 8lb7oz . She's all chubby and cuddly and I love her lots

I'd had an episiotomy but id also tore making it a 3rd degree tear, lucky me. So in a fair amount of pain now which feels like punishment for having no pain during labour lol.

All my fears about dp were washed away. He was absolutely amazing support throughout. As we were in theatre he got to see her come out and he even cut her cord and had first cuddle. And he looked instantly besotted with her. I knew he'd make a great dad. He wanted to bath her today so helped him with that.

I'm still in hospital because needed to be monitored for 24 hours off the bp meds now I'm no longer pregnant. It's pretty much back to normal.

Feeding isn't going brilliantly yet buy I'm persevering. Hormones are catching up to me coz just had a massive cry. I love her to bits but she won't settle in her cot which means I can't go to sleep so I'm knackered. But I'm loving the cuddles. If feeding improves then she might settle for longer. Should be discharged tomorrow so that will help.

Only on paracetamol and ibuprofen so I'm struggling to move around which is hard when I'm on my own my night so it'll be better once I'm home.

Haven't completely decided on name yet but I want her to be Piper Jean and dp is coming round to the idea. His mum actually laughed out loud when I told her my suggestion at visiting today! I couldn't believe she would be that rude. It's a little unusual but I think it grows on you and it suits her anyway.

Sorry for long post! I'll be keeping in touch with u all till the end don't worry. It's so exciting to see so many babies arriving now.
