Wow Panpipe that is super quick!!!!

Happy Ben and jerry's is certainly acceptable for breakfast in my books :) Haha! Honestly I had to give the tub back to DH to put in the freezer otherwise I could have quite happily sat there and eaten the lot.
We just ran through the usual pain relief options: pethadine, epidural, gas and air, water birth, hypno birthing, aromatherapy, TENS machine…I'm personally not ruling anything out-except pethadine, I literally have no idea what my pain threshold will be like in these new circumstances.
Oh gosh, honestly I really do feel for your work situ - just repeat to yourself 9 more shifts to go!! Has DP heard anything back from his applications?

Midwife called me this morning, my platelets have dropped again so she's booked me an appointment with the consultant at the hospital. Anyone had any dealings with this kind of situ before? xx

happygojo · 23/06/2015 13:37

DP hasn't heard anything yet, but some of the adverts haven't actually closed yet. We will be doing a couple more tonight. The other problem is that because 33 people in the same aspect of an industry are losing their job, obviously the competition for positions is high. He will find something though.

I am a big fan of pethidine.... but only in other situations. I had it a few times when I was a kid and in hospital. Apparently (whilst off my face) I used to stick my bum in the air any time a nurse came in to check on me. I also had it for my MC. I really don't understand why it is still given as a labour drug. There is a time to be asleep and to 'check out' of a situation, but labour isn't one of them.

We are obviously being really super good with money at the moment, but I might see whether Aldi has any fake ben and jerry's later. What I actually want is a bottle of wine! so maybe I will get a cheap bottle of wine for my DP and then he can't argue when I have a tub of ice cream Grin. I actually managed to lose 1lb last week despite very much eating my feelings.

Sorry, I don't know anything about platelets. I hope you get sorted soon though

Of course he will find something! You guys are being really proactive which will definitely help. I worked in audio post production and when a facility used to close down it was the same deal in regards to competition and the flood of CV's we'd receive as it's such a niche industry. I worked in the office so with my redundancy i'm hoping that with the admin and scheduling skills etc I have I should be able to find something post baby. Does worry me though.

You sound hilarious on pethidine! The NCT teacher actually said last night that St Thomas' don't actually allow it for labour anymore (unless you obviously beg for it!) - i'm at Kings, but did find it pretty amazing that a hospital has 'banned' it in this circumstance.

You totes deserve the ice cream!! I only buy B&J's when it's half price and funny enough used the same mentality of the amount i've saved on wine over the last few months justified it lol! We hosted some drinks the other night for PIL's French friends and they bought around post event a beautiful bottle of Sancerre, i'm hoping DH doesn't open it until I can guzzle it too :)

p.s also just wanted to say sorry about your previous MC xx

Hi all! waves

Back from our baby moon and nicely relaxed! The Dr certificate to fly wasn't required, no one asked to see it! So glad I spent £25 on that! Grr! Although original cost was quoted at £48!
Would have been typical I wouldn't be allowed to fly if I didn't get it! I'm 30 weeks now and the tiredness has returned although it might just be a shock to the system being back and not just sunning myself on the lounger Smile
I hope you are all well and growing nicely!

Welcome panpipes. Good luck with the home birth!

I'm so glad I bought some raspberry sorbet the other day from aldi. It's perfect for a hot day like today! I think I could have eaten the whole tub though.

Glad u had a good baby moon red.

Good luck with all the job situation happy. Really hope he finds something.

I'm counting down the shifts now, only 8 to go. Can't wait to be off now and get all prepared.
Having carpet fitted on Monday so I can put all the furniture up and put everything away. Been hoarding a lot of stuff at my mum's house and have babyshower on Sunday so will be able to have a proper sort through and get it organised and then I can work out what stuff i still need to get.

Going to mothercare event on Tuesday evening as well. Not particularly looking forward to that but I just want info on car seat and apparently u get 10% to spend in store so I can then buy the car seat then. Will have to treat dp to dinner i think for making him come along coz I'm sure he'll hate it after a long day at work.

Hope everyone is ok

Welcome panpipe. That's a very speedy delivery. Congratulations on your pregnancy.

Sorry things are difficult at work happy. I'm sure you'll be pleased to be out of there soon. Your DH sounds very pro active on the job hunt. Fingers crossed something comes along. I hope you had that Ben and Kerry's.
I also had a funny experience with pethadine as a child! I had a big shot of it after a tonsillectomy and had a proper, full on hallucinogenic experience! first of many My mum still recounts the story of me off my face talking about all the pretty flowers. I really enjoyed it, but it's kind of put me off having it in labour. i'm not sure if baby needs me to be having flashbacks to my raving days when he's entering the world Smile

No idea about platelets sorry fanby. Make sure you see your midwife to find out what it's all about and look after yourself.

Welcome back red! Glad you had a nice break.

Yippee to bring down to 8 shifts dozy. That mother are thing sounds good - I miss stuff like that now we live out in the sticks.

I'm feeling much better today after a good night's sleep. Only one toilet trip and no cramps. I felt so terrible yesterday after Sunday night, God knows how I'll cope when baby is here!!

Bank issued our mortgage offer today!! Haven't seen it yet, just heard from the broker, but that's a relief - actually starting to hope we might even move before baby arrives.

Report
mzzzf · 23/06/2015 20:17

Woohoo Siani that's great news at last!!!

Re low platelets it can be caused by pregnancy. The platelets are important as they're the ones responsible for clotting and stopping you bleeding out. Hence why the MW wants to get you checked out as if it's mild then they might do nothing more than monitor you, or if it's a bigger deficit then they can give you some platelets. But really it helps guide them re blood loss problems in delivery. But they'll check you out to check it is the pregnancy causing it rather than some other underlying cause. More blood tests I'm afraid!!

Happy I really hope you guys get something soon. And you're right it is a team effort, I always ask my DH to proof read work stuff and vice versa. Sounds like you're doing all you can though - fingers crossed!!

Dozy - I reckon you're going to be overrun with goodies, you won't need anymore stuff after the baby shower I'm sure! You have reminded me though that we get to pick up our buggy and car seat next week - this shizz it getting real!!

Baby moon sounds lush, as does the ice cream. In fact I could murder a sun lounger, cocktail (with real gin dammit!) and the ability to lay in a comfy position for longer than 50mins!! Grin

Re the drugs, I had an anaesthetic review today and it did make me think that whilst I love the idea of reduced pain, I hate the idea of bring bed bound! I did ask the consultant "how will I know what pain relief I want and when I want it, in the throes of labour?" She smiled knowingly at me and just said "trust me, you'll know!" I'm happy with that, as it's in keeping with the 'roll with it' plan!

This week I have got another mini energy burst, weeks 31-34 were knackering but I feel a bit more pepped up now thank goodness!

siani congrats on the mortgage offer! I remember it was a big weight off our minds when we officially had that! Hope it continues to go smoothly.

Welcome panpipe!

red welcome back, glad you had a lovely babymoon. I'm totally jealous but we really couldn't afford one!

dozy let us know how you get on at the mothercare thingy, I hear they are quite good. And it'll be worth for the discount I reckon.

happy I definitely agree about the job hunt being a team effort. My DH isn't the best at writing cover letters etc so I always help him out if I possibly can. It will be benefiting both of you if he gets a job, so defo worth doing together!

fanby hope your platelets aren't too low, I'm sure it's no big deal. Another joy of pregnancy though apparently.

Got my results back from my last set of bloods at the birthing centre, my haemoglobin has fallen a bit more again, so going to get some spatone I reckon, as it's not too low that I require tablets. Results are fine for me to have baby at the birthing centre so that's the main thing. Also, seems I don't have a UTI after all. Bonus.

Absolutely creeeeam crackered today. Woken up with the usual at about half 2, leg cramps and needing to pee. Then at 3:45am DH's gran called. We were worried it was an emergency but seems she was just totally confused and didn't realise it was the middle of the night. She is 89 though bless her. Couldn't get back to sleep after that until about 6am and the alarm goes off at half 6. Feel like a zombie!

I got some Aldi 'Ben and Jerry's' last night. I think it was called 'Monkey business' anyway it is basically like fish food but with chocolate monkeys instead of chocolate fish. It was amazeballs! only £1.99 a tub. OH applied for another job last night.... testing alcoholic beverages! not as exciting as it sounds as it is in a lab and chemical testing but he is quite excited about it. So 3 jobs done. Another one to apply for but it is for the company we both used to work for, he left on really good terms (me.... less so, but not like really bad terms). Anyway.... it is another job in exactly the same industry, where companies are going bust left right and centre, so not necessarily safer.

Has anyone tried the soap thing for restless legs.... I feel stupid for asking but I am getting desperate. Me and my OH haven't shared a bed for a week because I can't keep still or stay asleep!

I also have a funny tummy, having the odd possible braxton hicks (not 100% sure) and I now have.... shooting pains in my foo foo! only 33 weeks so I am hoping it is just my body taking a LOOOOOONG run up to the big event. My OH thinks I should be off work because I am not sleeping and generally struggling with life, but I don't actually feel ill. Plus I have a meeting with HR and the MD next week.

I am not busy though.... only just noticed that my emails aren't working.... and haven't been since yesterday.... whoops!

Yeah Mzzzf It actually feels like she is poking my cervix with a long nail (I now have vision of a scary baby with stupidly long nails!) I am wondering if it is an indication of her going head down. She was definitely breach last week but I think she has moved again, I am just not sure now

Report
OMC1 · 24/06/2015 13:54

mzzzf I get poked and prodded (it feels like!) down there a lot too - I am pretty sure baby is head down, although some days more horizontal, as I get what I think is a bum on my right hand side, under my ribs, and their back seems to go across my bump Confused Seeing midwife on Monday so can ask her then!

I will be 33 weeks on Friday & break up from work two weeks tomorrow - it really is going scarily quickly.

How are you all coping in this warm weather? I know we shouldn't complain, but I am starting to struggle a bit - just walking up the high street wears me out at the moment! Thankfully work have relented and given me a small desk fan, which is such a help!

Fanby · 24/06/2015 15:35

Afternoon ladies and bumpies! I've just demolished a box of 10 mini doughnuts, but half of what I eat goes to baby right, so i've only had 5...;)

OMC – I struggle in the heat and now give myself double the amount to walk anywhere as i'm so much slower!

Happy – Woohoo for the icecream, I prefer monkeys to fish so that sounds so much tastier :D
What's the soap thing for restless legs?
I have those weird visions too, although mine is of a headless baby as the midwife couldn't find the head last week – obviously I know she has one after all the scans lol!

Pinkie87 – yay for lack of UTI! I hope the tablets pick your haemoglobin up and you get an interrupted night sleep tonight!

Mzzzf – ah that's good to know re: platelets. Tbh I should know more about it myself, when I was 18 they found out I miss a clotting factor in my blood but it's never caused me any issues, be interesting to see what the consultant says.

Siani – WOOOOOHOOOOO! That's so exciting, I'm so pleased that things are moving forward to you!! Start packing those boxes ;)

xx

I did ask about the fanny kicks too - all totally normal Grin

Fanby - I think it's just checking you have a roof over your head and no bottles of vodka lying around! Grin
I got a letter through as well saying there would be a visit nearer my due date and the MW said it's literally checking you have the basic provisions for a baby, somewhere to sleep, something to eat and something to wear.

My HV tip is to tidy your bedroom. Mine asked to see where baby will sleep. Unfortunately we had chucked all the crap from the rest of the house into our room! Not all HV asked to see upstairs though. Apart from that my HV appointment was fine

Totally yes to the fanny kicks! It sometimes feels like baby is trying to fight its way out already. I'm sure I must be getting some BH too, or certainly something period painy I don't remember having previously.

I really struggled today in the heat. Took DDs to the park and across the road to Sainsburys then by the time we got home I could barely move. Early bed for me faffing around online.

I've never had or heard of a HV visit before baby arrives. The ones in our area are next to useless anyway so I'm not bothered about not seeing them!

Good news on your mortgage offer siani, fingers crossed you get to find somewhere before baby arrives.

I have a visit from the HV on 13 July (a month before my DD!) - I am slightly panicked that we haven't even started on the nursery yet (we've been doing the rest of the house!). We have a cot and stuff, but it's at a friends - no pressure!!!
