Congratulations Mzzzf! Hope you are both okay and enjoying snuggles together.

Dozy, hope you enjoy the spa. Sounds quite perfect!

I've been having tightenings since 6am this morning with dull period type pain. I tried to time them but gave up as they are so erratic. I'm hoping it's my body's way of preparing for labour!

Hope everyone is okay

Frolicacid · 03/08/2015 15:46

That's really exciting claire. Finger crossed this is it. Remember to tell yourself that every tightening / cramp, however small, will help get you closer to meeting your little one.

Let me know how you get on with Nashville dozy? I need something good to watch that isn't violent or something that dh wants to see.

I've made a massive mess in an attempt at clearing out the living room. Now I have to put it all back together and I've run out of steam!! I could do with some nesting instinct to kick in right about now.

the first thing in my hospital bag is a tub of prunes equimum! The glamour! Glad you got your prescription. Thrush is horrible. I've found that wiping or bathing with a few drops of tea tree every day has kept it at bay for me for a good few weeks now. It stinks, but might be worth a go.

Equimum · 03/08/2015 17:14

Excellent news about the spa day dozy. I hope you have a fabulous time.

That sounds exciting Claire. Definitely keep hold of the thought that every tightening is one step closer.

Thanks for the advice Frolic. I've not heard about using tea tree oil to prevent thrush, but will certainly give it a try. I have some in just in case of scratching/tearing when I actually get round to giving birth.

Dozygirl · 03/08/2015 17:15

Nashville seems promising so far :) easy watching anyway.

Dp came home early from work. Luckily I had just got off my fat ass and was hanging the washing out looking all domesticated haha. And the dishwasher was on the go. Phew. He's puttingnthe shelves up now in the nursery. Ordered some wall stickers off amazon which are ready to put up too so should almost have it all finished except for the curtains.

Frolic you were brave tackling the living room. Isn't it frustrating how knackering tasks are. Even just standing there making sure the shelves were straight was hard enough for me because of the instead swelling I get from standing still. I can't wait to have more energy. Feel so unfit but I know it's the baby. I was going to go for a walk in the sunshine before he came home. Might still try to go for one if I can.

Augustwedding · 03/08/2015 18:00

Had sweep today, 2cm dilated and mw could feel his head! If all else fails booked in for induction on sat!

Hope everyone else is ok x

Fanby · 03/08/2015 18:12

I love, love LOVE Nashville...to the point where i've even bought the soundtracks (and made Gunner sign one of them when he came into my work ahem).

Dozy: Yay for the spa!! That's a right bargain! Hope you still get to partake in the afternoon tea too! You sound like you've been massively proactive!! My DH is due home shortly, I should get up and spray some polish around so it smells like i've cleaned...haha. Don't do too much though, look after those footsies!!

Frolicacid: I hate the mess that is made from clearing, I always want to give up half way through. It's such a bore chore!

Clairexxx: ESSHK! This is exciting!! I hope you're not in too much pain? Is it really bad if I confess I'm a little jealous, I want a sign that things are starting for me! I think these last couple of weeks are going to drag big time!

Augustwedding: Woohoo! Serious progress there – you might not even need the induction!! :D

Frolicacid · 03/08/2015 19:53

Great news august. Plenty of time for him to come out before Saturday.

I will definitely give Nashville a go then.

I ended up doing a massive clean of the kitchen, living room and bathroom. Not really sure what came over me. I'm exhausted now. And my feet are really sore and swollen. My back hurts a bit from all the hovering and steam mopping action. I've had to give frolicdog's evening walk a miss and send dh on his own. I feel so big and fat and incapable.

On the plus side, I finally had that pear and Stilton salad for dinner. Thank you again all of you lovelies who told me I can have Stilton - I love it and you Flowers

clairexxx · 03/08/2015 21:01

Thanks for the comments everyone. Just a quick update, my waters broke this afternoon. I went into a bit of a shock as I was told I would know when I was in labour! I'm still in early labour but the hospital have discharged me. If I don't go into active labour during the night I'm being induced tomorrow morning. Feeling a bit scared and excited. I didn't expect my waters to break at 38 weeks in a sudden gush! I heard a pop and that was it!!

Fanby · 03/08/2015 21:05

Oh my goodness Claire!! This is massive!! I hope you're ok!! Keep calm, I hope you get a bit of sleep if you can – you'll need your energy!! I'm so excited for you!!

Frolicacid – I think your nesting instinct has kicked in!! Can you have a bath for your aches and pains??

Joskar · 03/08/2015 21:58

Adore Nashville. Season one soundtrack is particularly awesome. If you like the music then check out The Civil Wars. They've split up now but the guy from it wrote some of the Nashville music.

Baby clothes out the barn today. I have a million baby gros/vests. It's ridiculous. Need to be stricter about the charity pile. They're all so cute I can't bring myself to get rid.

Good luck all the labouring mamas!

Frolicacid · 03/08/2015 22:17

Great news claire!! Good luck, will be thinking of you Flowers

I'm not sure if it's nesting fanby. I'm sure I would have enjoyed it more if it was? I just think the house needed a good clean skanky people that we are. I've had a hot shower and done 1 hour bouncing on the ball, which has sorted my back out.

Sounds like Nashville is the way forward then. Not sure when I'll get a chance, as in my haste not to be sitting around the house waiting for baby, I seem to have booked myself up for most of the next 2 weeks.

I know this might seem like another first world problem, but do any of you have any thoughts about weather I can get away with wearing black Birkenstocks to a funeral? We're saying goodbye to a dear family friend on Wednesday. I doubt I'll get my feet into any of my 'tidy' shoes due to swelling. Everything I own is boots, heels or sandals. Do you think open toe is ok for a church? I'm not sure. I could go to buy some ballerina things, but I've never found any that fit my wide hoofs pre-pregnancy, so think I might struggle.
I know it's not that important, but I can't help worrying about it. I really don't want to seem disrespectful. I just hope I manage to fit into something dark coloured from my wardrobe.

Anyway, I hope everyone is ok tonight. I can't believe how many of us have now had babies or are very close. I'm worried I'll be here on my own soon Wink

Dozygirl · 03/08/2015 23:18

Ooh claire that's very exciting! I'm also a little but jealous that you're closer to meeting your little one than me! Saw a friend yesterday who had twins couple of weeks ago and she said the same thing about the 'pop' like an elastic band. Then labour started. For some people labour starts first but for others it's the waters going. Excited for u. Hope you're coping ok with the pain.

Frolic not surprised you're hurting after doing all that. I also had 2 weeks fully booked seeing people but this week has calmed down a little bit. Didn't get out for a walk but bounced on my ball for a bit. I still feel like I've got ages away till I have a baby but in reality it's not that long.

Dozygirl · 03/08/2015 23:26

Sorry frolic forgot to answer your question. I'm sure people won't mind what u have on your feet. I'd prob wear whatever fitted on my feet which is only flip flops at the moment. In my opinion I think it's fine to wear flip flops in church.

Dp went to bed early and my lovely cat has chosen tonight to bring me a lovely little mouse as a gift. So kind of him haha. Dp usually sorts it but I've been brave and attempted to rescue it. It was still very much alive. I'm sure he'll go back out and try to find it again but ad long as it's not loose in my house I don't mind what he does with it. And speaking of shoes I just tried to 'slip' some ballet pumps on my feet to take said mouse out into garden and I couldn't get my sausage toes into them haha. Oh the joys.

Equimum · 04/08/2015 07:47

Oh Claire, that's really exciting! I hope you have already gone into spontaneous labour, but if not, good luck with the induction today.

Dozy, that was kind if your cat Shock. I do live cats, but I'm less keen on the presents they bring!

Frolic, I don't think anyone will judge your fort wear when you are heavily pregnant. While they might not usually be your personal shoes if choice for such an occasion, I am sure people will appreciate you attending far more than they will be bothered by your footwear.

DS is clearly feeling more himself this morning. He has already played with baby toys, built towers with wooden bricks and given a performance with his musical instruments. He is currently eating his second bowl of cereal and asking to get the train set out! To those of you having your first babies, enjoy the peace.....you'll NEVER get it back (or at least, that is how it feels when you have a toddler Grin.

clairexxx · 04/08/2015 08:23

Thanks everyone! Looks like I'm going to be induced after all. I had a few contractions during the night but nothing regular. I feel less shocked this morning. Bit nervous about being induced as I don't know what to expect!

ruby242 · 04/08/2015 08:55

How exciting Claire, you are about to meet your baby!!

Equimum so true about enjoying the peace-I keep thinking how hard it will be to do this the second time around with a toddler so am enjoying my lazy maternity leave while it lasts!

Frolic I think the footwear will be fine :)

Joskar, we have ended up with sooo many 0-3month things too so had to give a lot to charity shops. Better to have too many though I say!

I almost thought labour was starting last night, I had some pains which seemed to be about 10mins apart-they eventually faded away and nothing this morning though so must just be practice ones. I was surprised as last midwife appointment I wasn't engaged at all-anyone else not engaged? I thought it was supposed to happen by 38wks so am hoping this doesn't mean I go overdue!

Fanby · 04/08/2015 08:59

Good morning! Shit night sleep again blah blah blah, same old same old. Also around 5am got ridiculously hungry. Meeting a few of the NCT girls for a waddle and lunch so hopefully will tire myself out and have a nap later :)

Claire: Good luck today!! It's so exciting!!

Dozygirl: Ahhhh what a 'kind' cat! Well done you for being brave! That's the worst thing about cat ownership.

Frolicacid: Not a first world problem at all. I had a similar issue but with clothes for DH grandma's funeral a couple of weeks ago. Everything black I tried on made me look a bit hookerish, far too tight and all boobs and bum, it was during the heat wave so didn't have much choice (it was a cooler day in the end so managed to wear my maternity jeans, felt a bit casual but no one batted an eyelid). I'd go with the birkenstocks, I think they're fine for church, more importantly you just need to be comfortable. Hope it all goes ok x

Joskar: Good tip on The Civil Wars – thanks!!

Equimum · 04/08/2015 09:20

Good luck Claire. So close now Smile

Ruby, just remember that all those practices are getting you that bit closer. I'm not sure there are any laws about when they engage. DS1 engaged by about 35 weeks and went nearly a week over, so I'm sure some engage later and come earlier too. (Still bit engaged here either).

Fanby, sorry you had another bad night. I hope you have a lovely time with your NCT groups and are thoroughly worn out by the 'waddle'.

Okay, can I please have a 'really unappreciative person' moan please? I know this sounds really ungrateful, but we have my mum on stand-by to help look after DS when I go into labour. She's old fashioned, doesn't drive and hates using a mobile phone. Half an hour ago, the phone rang so I ran down two flights of stairs and grabbed it. I was greeted with "have your pains started?". Apparently she needs to nip to the village shop but just wanted to check that I wasn't going to call while she was out. She'll be gone for less than half an hour. At the end of the call, she announced that she'll call back later as she needs to visit an elderly neighbour but wants to check that I'm okay beforehand!!!!! I'm only 38+3 and went six days over last time. This could get very annoying (although she had cancelled all plans for next week and made sure she has enough food in so that she won't need to go to the shops, just in case I call). Aaaaargh!!

Fanby · 04/08/2015 10:10

Ahh! I don't think you're being ungrateful. There is nothing I hate more than rushing for the landline, I tend to miss it, then they start on my mobile which usually is in the other direction etc etc so you end up running backwards and forwards. Does my head in! But back to you, your mum is being very sweet but you're totally allowed to be a bit hacked off. We must be due on the same day (15th), no one has started hassling me...yet!

sianihedgehog · 04/08/2015 10:28

Ruby I was 1/5 engaged at 35 weeks, 2/5 at 36.5, and not at all at 38. Apparently they can wait right up until the start of labour.

ruby242 · 04/08/2015 15:34

Fanby I'm the same with sleep, awake for hours in the middle of the night! Lucky I generally go back to sleep once DH goes to work for a few hours so that keeps me going! Hope you enjoyed seeing the NCT girls

Equimum that is half sweet half annoying with your mum!! She is obviously very excited, but sounds like you do need to tell her that she can pop out for half an hour and you'll be ok haha!

Thanks siani that's good to know that they can engage at the start of labour, I figured it mustnt have been a problem as the midwife didn't mention anything but you never know! I guess he must just be happy being able to move around in there for now haha

Frolicacid · 04/08/2015 16:30

how nice of your cat to bring you a gift dozy! It's horrible, isn't it. Our old boy was an amazing hunter and would bring multiple gifts every day in the summer. Yuck!

Glad your little one is feeling better equimum. I'm full of admiration for you doing this pregnancy thing with a toddler around. It's exhausting enough without any kids!
I don't think you sound ungrateful about your mum. I'm sure she's just excited, but that would totally do my head in as well. Is she the kind of person you can ask to chill out a bit?

Good luck today claire. Hoping it's all going smoothly Flowers

Baby wasb't engaged at my 36 week appt ruby. Despite feeling very low down. I'm hoping he will be by my 38 week check next week. I'm doing lots of walking and bouncing on my ball. I also tried a guided meditation that I found on YouTube last night. I doubt it made him move, but I felt very relaxed and slept well afterwards.

I hope you had a nice lunch Fanby.

Thanks for all the shoe advice. I've bought some bigger size ballet shoes for £5 today and will wear the to the church bit and then put my birkies on for the wake. I also got a plain black midi dress for £5 that I'm hoping will look ok with a blazer. I will take a bag with a change of clothes as well as it's a good 3 hour journey each way. Hopefully it won't be too hot. I should probably take my notes as well!

Another busy day for me. My lovely god daughter is 10 today. So far we've been shopping, for ice cream and a long walk. We're having dinner at a local restaurant with her and her little mates tonight. So cute!! I'm going to have to have a nap first -can't handle the pace!

Fanby · 04/08/2015 22:01

Evening all! Hope everyone is feeling fine and dandy! I'm actually feeling sleepy so looking forward to getting into bed.
Had a lovely lunch and then went out for dinner with DH (piggy!), stuffed to the brim!

Frolicacid: Well done on the bargain buys! That's a long drive, take your notes and factor in the wee breaks :). Hope you've had a lovely evening with your god daughter! Girls are so cute at that age!

ruby242: Totally the same as you! As soon as DH goes to work I can easy get another hour in!! I love having the bed to myself :D

Claire and Mzzzf: Hope you're both doing ok!! Thinking of you!

Dozygirl · 05/08/2015 00:54

Hope you're doing ok claire! Thinking of you.

Glad everyone's had a good day.

Not much to say from me today. Midwife appointment tomorrow. Hopefully start talking about birth plan maybe? Always seemed rushed at my appointments so don't seem to get to chat much. I've been seeing 2 midwives throughout and one is definitely better than the other but both are nice. Fingers crossed for a normal bp for once.

Fanby · 05/08/2015 05:19

Good luck with the mw Dozy! I've lost count of the number I've seen now Smile!
I still can't believe the end is in sight for us all, I've started to tack on 10days from my EDD so I know the maximum it can be Grin
