runnyhabbit · 20/11/2006 19:39

Yey - it worked

wilderbeast - welcome to the club!

1becomes3 · 20/11/2006 20:38

welcome - thewilderbeast

ooogs- have they said if you will be having a natural birth?
I am going to ask my consultant if I will only go up to 37 weeks, bloody hope so. I am huge and not even half way yet

Right I am off to have a nice aromatherapy bath and possible a hot chocalate

weeonion · 20/11/2006 21:03

LOL at this thread! it just grows and grows! i had a scan back over an old thread and there is loads more to join the stats thread and alot of the first posters have gone! it would have been even bigger!
hard to keep up with it all.

circumcision - hmmmmmmm despite dp's grimacing face - i think i would. i work in sexual health and i have seen the benefits and drawbacks and woudl still go for it.

home birth - woudl love to but live in a flat and not sure if i want my neighbours to hear me in the throes of labour. we can hear all neighbourly "nocturnal activities" so not sure if i want to share that. anyhow - mw said no as first birth and i am an "older mummy". asked about a birthing pool - aint on offer at our hospital... ah well

pesha · 20/11/2006 21:29

Omg its taken me forever to catch up on only a day and a half and i cant believe how many of us there are

1b3 so sorry to hear about your digger accident, dont blame you at all not wanting to go near one again. And agree with GGF re not seeing the need for circumcision unless medically needed.

GGM car crash must have been really scary but at least you're all ok (apart from having to pay out £400 of course ).

Forgotten who it was said about new mattress (was it heidle?) but im having my 3rd and we'll be using same mattress which will be over 6 years old by then but only ever used by my sprogs. When I had ds i asked mw about used mattresses and she'd not heard anything suggesting you shouldn't and I can find any evidence to make me think I shouldnt so I did and i still will!

Oh and not used growbags but sister did so going to use hers and never did swaddling as my babys didnt like it and bubbaloo my ds went into a proper bed at 17months but that was cos he'd started climbing out the cot and mammyjo and someone else (sorry my note taking aint so hot! ) ds was 3 in august and is still in nappies, there either dry all night through or he does one huge wee and they leak so may have to try no nappies as sheets getting wet anyway but Im in no rush, oh and 2.5 is not old for potty training at all especially not for boys.

I think thats everything I wanted to say although probably not!

Seem to be having a hormone surge at the moment, feeling sick more, getting really irrationally angry with dp, forgetting everything and not in an 'oh yeah i forgot i did that' way but in a 'did i really, are you sure, I cant remember that at all' kind of way! Getting lots of headaches and aching joints and really sore boobs. Oh and I seem to have had an influx of horny hormones too! Which dont go too well with sore boobs and headaches but they're uncontrollable and dont seem to care. The hormones that is, obviously I have no say in it!!

pesha · 20/11/2006 22:12

Thought I'd share this with you : Did you know that bank charges of more than £12.00 have been ruled as unfair by the OFT and you can claim your money back? And your claim can cover the last 6 years?

I came across this a month or so ago, its a huge thread I only skimmed it but found it pretty useful.

I then went to The Consumer Action Group

You have to register but its free, I copied the letter asking for list of charges and i got these today, I've used one of their spreadsheets and copied the preliminary letter asking for charges and interest repaid so will send that tomorrow and see what happens. I'm only claiming £738 but some people are claiming thousands. 700 quid is alot of money to me though and with baby on the way will make a big difference (if i have it by then) so although it seems like it could be quite abit of hassle it'll be worth it in the end. Plus I resent paying such huge charges so will be nice to get it all back!

fortyplus · 20/11/2006 22:25

This is a hijack - sorry! But someone has started a media thread re: Mums with an internet gambling habit.
This seems SO unlikely for MN that I reckon it needs some posts...

Greengirlforever · 20/11/2006 23:08

Wow Pesha - this looks just what I need! My bank have been having a field day with me. Will check this out tomorrow but too tired now - must gooo to beeeed!

Good night !

CornflakeKid · 21/11/2006 07:15

Morning everyone - phew - go to bed early and the thread doubles! But up very early thanks to ds2...

Does ebay count as a gambling addiction??!!

Quiet day today - need to get some food in but apart from that some chill out time.

Hope everyone has a good day and good luck for scans - 6 days til mine....

doobydoo · 21/11/2006 08:16

Thanks AngeG.
wELCOME tHE WILDERBEAST..i LIKE your name[i look like one this morning]
Heidle..it is recommended that you have a new matress if you are given a second hand cot and mattress.I would purchase a new one if you can.
I am paranoid about that sort of thing and even tho you have used it for your other child i think the advice would be to buy a new one.HTH.
Hope we all have a fab day today and GOOD LUCK to all the scanees!

liath · 21/11/2006 08:44

Morning,

It has taken me a while to catch up on the posts! Was away at BILs 40th birthday party over theweekend. Dd stayed at my parents. I cried buckets leaving her and she seemed unperturbed and had a fantastic time with her Granny & Granddad . DH drank quite a lot and was monumentally hungover on sunday to the extent that we had to leap off the tube on the way to King's Cross for him to be sick!!!!!!!! I don't think he drank THAT much but as we hardly drink at all these days his tolerance was rather low.

We stayed with MIL - the first thing she said to me was "How's the pregnancy progressing?" the second thing she said (in front of my 10 & 12 year old nephew & niece) was "Have your breasts started to swell yet?" Wasn't sure what to say to that one, really!

Hi to everyone new. Harimad - I've hired a DOula but for the 6 weeks after the birth as my mum will be here for the birth. I've booked a homebirth.

MIAM, your Dad sounds an absolute star.

Grobags rock!

Finally - PLEASE could someone add me to the stats list as my laptop mouse pad isn't working properly & I can't highlight or drag & drop. It's Liath, due 13th April, scan 27th Nov. Cheers.

Bugmum · 21/11/2006 08:53

Just a flying visit.

My twopennorth about circumcision: why on earth would you? And I am Jewish (though non-practising, and in fact entirely secular).

Foreskins are not dirty, and while a small minority of boys and men do get problems, the rest shouldn't have to lose a part of their body just in case, IMO. Encourage boys to keep themselves clean, and most will be absolutely fine. Unless I had a medical reason to do so, I would NEVER have a boy circumcised.

Have a good day, folks

weeonion · 21/11/2006 09:03

liath - added you to the stats on the seperate thread

geordiemacminx · 21/11/2006 09:05

You are Ms Organised!!! The benifits of being up at 4.30 I suppose!!!

maveta · 21/11/2006 09:28

Morning girls!
Back at work today...urgh..but I only have the rest of this week, 2 days next week and then I am off until January...weeeeeeeeeeee!
DH felt the baby move last night, twice! He felt very pleased with himself and I was so happy that the baby decided to cooperate seeing as I had only felt it externally for the first time yesterday morning..
How exciting!
Question for you all - if I am 18 weeks today am I already 18+1 or just 18? May seem stupid but I can't figure out how it works!!

runnyhabbit · 21/11/2006 09:39

Morning all

Need some reassurance (or a kick up the backside, depending on your view)

I upset mil yesterday. I'm not a huge fan of bump patting, just the odd little pat is ok when it's its close family. I'm not a very touchy feely person at the best of times (apart from dh and ds) But yesterday, when I picked ds up from mil, she repeatedly stroked (yes, stroked) bump. Not just once or twice, but for a good few minutes (seemed like ages) It took me to physically remove her hand, for her to stop. I stayed calm (although hormones were in overdrive) and with a smile on my face asked her not to do it. She just said that its so gorgeous, seeing my bump, new life forming etc that she can't help herself. At this point I thought she was going to cry. I just made up some reason about skin feeling very sensitive with all the stretching etc, and managed to get her to sympathise, as she has given birth 7 times. Everything was fine when I left, but this morning I'm thinking was I cruel?

runnyhabbit · 21/11/2006 09:41

Maveta - very of you being having all that time off!

littlefrog · 21/11/2006 09:41

Hi everyone, why am i reading this I am SOOO busy... but I'm now all muddled AGAIN about the changes in maternity pay.
Ooogs says she won't get the 9 months if her twins come early, but that totally contradicts what I'd understood, which is that it's the expected date that counts, not the actual arrival date.
Have just gone and looked it up again, and I do hope I'm right about this - baby due on the 2nd, so it's all a bit too close to the deadline! new maternity rules
Ooogs, was there any special reason why you wouldn't get the 9 months, or have i just got completely the wrong end of the stick??

muminamini · 21/11/2006 09:46

Bugmum!

Cool - she is my absolute favourite author!!
Please tell her from me she is fabtastic :-)
x

weeonion · 21/11/2006 09:47

maveta - great news. hope dp was all pleased! there is no way my dp could feel these flutters through all my flabby belly!
heinz (the bean as christened by my kid brother!) has been v quiet the past 2 days but this morning it woke me up with what felt like a sharp poke. bold bean.
still raining in scotland - arghhhh

weeonion · 21/11/2006 09:50

runnyhabit - missed yr post there. its a tough one with yr MIL. you can see where she is coming from but at the same time if you are not a really touchy person normally(and why should you have to be??)then this doesnt necessarily change just cause you are pg. cant offer any advise babe but i think you handled it grand.

maveta · 21/11/2006 09:53

runnyhabbit - I wouldn't dwell on it too much, if you got her to sympathise in the end then you probably did convince her it wasn't anything personal directed at her. And if not, she'll get over it! Bump touching is a very sensitive subject and I may have offended a friend the other day after practically running away from her groping hands! If they choose to be offended rather then understanding that it is actually they who are in the wrong for invading personal space then there is nothing you can do about it.
And the time off? Well I'm looking forward to it now of course but it is unpaid, I am self employed and my (only) employer decided not to employ me in december as there is little work so we'll be quite skint for christmas! Ho hum..I'll make the best of it though!

runnyhabbit · 21/11/2006 10:01

Just spoken to dh, and he said his mum had probably forgotten about it by the time I'd left!

Can I blame my over-worrying on pregnancy hormones please

doobydoo · 21/11/2006 10:15

I think you handled it well Runnyhabbit.I feel sick at the thought of anyone other than dp or ds stroking my tum[eek].I reckon your dh is right,he sounds very sensible and i think we are extra sensitive so don't worry.

CaptainDippy · 21/11/2006 10:26

Hello fellow pregnant lovlies!!

Just had anoher driving lesson, wanting sooooo much to pass my test now, is getting tedious.

Welcome to thewilderbeast - excellent name!! Enter the madness.....

I wouldn't worry at all runny - I think you were perfectly justified to remove her hand after the excessive bump rubbing, I am sure she was just as as you and probably has forgotten about it. If you don't feel comfortable, you should say - I don't mind friends / close family touching my Bump a little, but not excessively - it's just plain darn annoying!!

Have been having a lot of pains etc in my abdomen etc - waaaay more than I had with either of my other two pregnancies - my body is protesting!! Also retching and feeling quite sick in the mornings, esp when I brush my teeth which is horrid.

Currently munching my way through Sainsbury's trifle. The Bump insisted.

OP posts:
runnyhabbit · 21/11/2006 10:50

Thanks everyone for the reassurance

Had to laugh at dh - he asked me what the mumsnetters thought about the bump stroking He knows me so well! Actually admitted to me the other night that he though it was quite cool having this antenatal club.

Dh felt bump move last night too! Dh was resting his head on bump, and it went mad, kicking him in his ear. The look on his face was amazing, seeing as I've been feeling it move for quite a few weeks.

Cd - I've been feeling exactly the same, but only when I'm brushing my teeth in the morning

20 today - officially halfway there
