GGF, MIAM is right in that you do not have to pay back SMP if you decide not to return to work. Some companies offer more than SMP, and they may well have a claw-back clause - best to check with the company's HR Department.
GMM, really sorry to hear about your car crash - how frightening. I had a similar experience years ago - before children - went in to the back of stationery car at about 40 miles an hour. Scared me to death. Glad you are all ok.

Hello ladies - back from my scan at long last and she's still pink! Also saw consultant who I will see again at 36 weeks but I should be ok to go to the midwife unit which is gorgeous. Mind you, the consultant unit will be the brand new one at the RD&E (only opening at the end of March I believe, so I don't much mind that either...). We have a lovely picture showing her cute little nose. DH said he was pleased she had his nose and not mine !

SoL - Thanks for maternity leave info - I will double-check our HR stuff here and see just what goes on...

1B3 - Re circumcision - why would you? I have 2 boys and the whole idea of it is anathema to me. Surely not for cleanliness? Little boys as young as 2/3 can be taught to pull the foreskin back themselves for washing etc. (in fact there comes a point when it's hard to stop them.... ). I have heard circumcision reduces sensation, and tbh, I'm the simple-minded(!) sort who thinks nature put it there for a reason so who are we to mess with it? And that's before you get to the actual procedure... !

Hello all, I haven't posted in ages, I usually get the urge when i'm really grumpy but stop myself as I do seem to moan every time I post.
I'm still feeling/being sick, but I'm sort of used to it now. When does blooming start???

1B3 - your digger experience was awful, don't blame you for having a fear now.

GMM - glad the only damage was to the cars. You seem to be very calm about it all now. (except the £400 of course)

They make you wait till 22-23 weeks here for scans so roll on 6th December, really want to know the flavour.
As for letting DH loose with a video at the birth NO WAY... When I went to Boots to collect the pictures of DD birth I am so glad I didn't know before what he'd been up. Lovely snaps of before head, head crowning, and head out only. Then there were the lovely snaps of the afterbirth being delivered and checked and a great one of the midwife holding it up full stretch (it was enormous). Lovely for my DD's baby album NOT. Haven't yet felt the need to share these with anyone unless someone here is interested I feel safer this time knowing it's a digital camera and anything unsavoury can be deleted.

There see, I've moaned again, I just can't help myself .

Hi Girls, Good grief the posts have mounted up again! Like many others, I can´t quite keep up but get the gist that you are all okay, you must have had quite a fright with the bump in the car GMM! Glad you are all okay.
Did notice the circumcision post and I am not sure, If left to my own devices I wouldn´t do it as I don´t think it is necessary, unless it´s necessary iykwim. But DH had to have his chopped - ooww- at the ripe old age of 20 due to problems. He said it was really painful and also a recurring problem before that so feels quite strongly that he would be saving his son, if it is a boy, from all that.
But we´ll cross that bridge when we come to it.
Currently having all kinds of thoughts about a home birth but dh is totally freaked out by the idea so we´ll see.

Anyone here planning to have it at home?

Maveta - we had our last one at home and the main thing that swung it for DH was our proximity to the hospital (10 mins by car)! That said, this time we would be over 15 miles away and the midwife unit still reckon they could get me there in 30 mins by ambulance so we're not too worried.

I had DS2 in water with just one midwife attending (I think there were meant to be 2) but it was the easiest thing ever.

However, that was my second. I wanted to have my first the same way but it all went pear-shaped. I won't waffle on, but let me know if there is anything else you want to hear about!

GGF, well we are only 20 mins from the hospital and it´s motorway all the way so no traffic lights etc to worry about. I am mostly just worried that here they seem to be very interventionist. At any rate we are going to see a new midwife next week who only does home births so we will see if we like him and whether he puts dh´s worries to rest...thanks for the offer, if we do go ahead I am sure I will have plenty of questions nearer the time!

I have got my new car - hoorah! and stopped into the Mall at Cribbs Causeway to look for maternity clothes - got the black dress from H&M and a gold/black stripey top (non-mat), topshops maternity had a nice gold top and a dark green jumper and in french connection found some really cool long patterned tops with a little tie belt - got the green/blue one - would have got the white/grey one aswell but not in my size. Sounds alot - but so fed up with clothes not fitting/looking quite right! Happy now.

DS1 gone for tea, ds2 in car asleep...he seems tolike it! Peace and quiet...cup of tea and more cake called for!

I've got a couple of days off a the end of this week (5th Wedding Anniversary - yey!), so I'm going to romantically go to Bluewater and finally buy some maternity trousers. And possibly pick up a few other bits too... probably not a car tho'!

Maveta - I'm going for a hospital birth I think - I'd like to get a water birth if possible, but that's all down to first come first serve I think.
Are any of you thinking of getting a doula? I'm considering it as I think it would help with the stress of being someone usually in charge for once being completely in other people's hands, but it is going to cost a fortune!

So of everyone who gets to choose what type of birth they have, I would love to have a water birth, the ward where they do them at our hospital is soo lovely.
No such luck for me I am to be sliced and diced!

AngeG, its only been the last week or so that ds has had dry nappies every morning. Before that sometimes they would be soaking which is why I never tried him earlier. He was 3 in May so is quite a bit older than your ds. Personally I wouldnt worry about it. Its one thing that I have never stressed over!!
