Hi there

Hope everyone is well this morning - I love bright, clear, crisp autumn mornings...only time I wish I had a dog to walk!

Wecome Eca - I'm sure you'll enjoy it on this thread.

Had a FANTASTIC time last night. The meal was gorgeous and it was alovley celebration. At the end of the night just as we were going home my Dad slipped me and my brother a card each and when we got home and opened it he had put a cheque in there for £5000. I nearly DIED!

In fact I just burst into floods of tears. Whilst doing his project my husband and I got married and my Dad was upset at the time because we had paid for the wedding ourselves. My Dad wanted to pay us back now he could afford to. I really can't beleive it and after the financial rollercoaster of the past few months it is such a huge weight off my shoulders to know that we have a safety net for whilst I am off with this next baby. I just feel so very lucky.

I am sitting here eating a bag of Wotsits - hardly a very healthy breakfast - why is it all I want to eat is rubbish?!

Listening to you all talking about finding out the sex and sorting out the wrong/right clothes etc makes so much SENSE!!! But in my heart I really want a surprise tolook forward to...I don't know whic side of me is goign to win over yet.....have till 5th Dec to struggle with it! lol

Well best get on - can't see today being v productive for me but think need to get togged up and go out for a nice walk!

Have a great day everyone

MIAM 18+2

Katy44 · 19/11/2006 11:09

Hi eca, belated welcome and congratulations!
This is my first, and I'm not really worried, just jealous of everyone who is feeling movement! I realised this morning that although I don't really have a bump (well I do but I always had a tummy, and it's no bigger ) my stomach is now feeling really hard - a definite bump!
MIAM, what a nice Dad, and I know what you mean about having some financial security at the moment, lovely!
A walk sounds fantastic, think we are going to do the same, it's cold and crisp today, ideal weather for a winter walk.

emmymummy · 19/11/2006 11:19

MIAM - I'm so chuffed for you, what a lovely dad you have - in fact I'm such am emotional wreck at the moment I can feel tears prickling in my eyes. I really am a woss, but so very pleased that you now have that weight off your mind .

Bugmum · 19/11/2006 11:34

MIAM - I am choked too. What a smashing dad. My dad was lovely, but we lost him nearly 6 years ago, so he never knew about DS and clearly, doesn't about the new baby either. Actually, my dad was both lovely and an opinionated sod but I still miss him.

Oh, and MIAM? We are scan buddies, as mine is 5th Dec as well.

CornflakeKid · 19/11/2006 13:23

Thats fab news MIAM - what a lovely dad!

WCL - I haven't been to jump yet but ds1 has been invited to a party there in December - so when know where it is could meet up maybe after christmas or when babies come.

Cut4Cloth is sold.

doghouse · 19/11/2006 15:16

Welcome Eca and am so pleased for you MIAM - what a lovely daddy!
Has any one of you lovely MNers who already have children got any advice on what to buy for a newborn? Now my 20wk scan is out of the way, I bought some long sleeved bodysuits for baby today but what do they wear on their legs?! Or would it be better just to buy sleepsuits/babygrows? Any other must haves ... I too am starting a list ....!!

thanks and hope you are having a lovely sunny Sunday everyone

Bugmum · 19/11/2006 15:41

Doghouse - sleepsuits worn with short-sleeved bodysuits will be right for that time of year; get a couple of cardies, a hat and a jacket, and you are sorted. You do NOT need little outfits, however cute. Anyway, others will buy them (and you will ooh and aah and never put her in them )

Also, the worst advice I had was not to have stuff in Newborn size, or only one or two bits, as they don't wear them for any time at all. Well...actually, it depends on the size of your bubba! My DS was predicted to be nearly 9 pounds but arrived (at 40+weeks) weighing only 6-13, although he was very long (skinny belinky long legs, big banana feet). So all the stuff we had swamped him. Had to send my mum to Tesco to buy a couple of emergency packs on Newborn sleepsuits and bodysuits. I would say get these but don't undo more than you will immediately need, so you can exchange them if you have a HUGE baby

And I simply can't see what snowsuits are for...

IME, swaddling over a bodysuit for much of the time is the way to go in the early weeks for a lot of babies, though I believe some don't like it.
HTH

MIAM - That is fantastic!!!!!

CK, great! I am sure your little one will love going to a party there

AngeG · 19/11/2006 17:01

Hi all

welcome Eca. As you can tell we're a pretty chatty bunch

MIAM - What a wondeful surprise for you. I have to admit to shedding a few tears reading your post Pregnancy hormones have a lot to answer for.

Sallycinnamon - I think 3rd trimester starts at 28 weeks.

All good here, except I went shopping with my db yesterday and think I overdid it a bit. My hips were sore once I got back, but in bed last night they were excrutiating(sp?) A little better today but still uncomfortable Not sure what to do now about Christmas shopping. I have done nothing so far usually me and mum have all of it done by now but we've been lazy this year. We're supposed to go out on Friday and blitz it but not sure my hips will cope with it. I think Internet shopping might be the way.

Got my 20wk scan on 23rd (thurs) I'll be 20+4. Can't believe I'm half way through already.

Hope everyone has had a good weekend.

weeonion · 19/11/2006 17:18

hey folks - reading all todays posts! just have to say muminamini - yr dad sounds fab . it made me weep! so happy for you after the stress of the past few months

weeonion · 19/11/2006 17:25

ok - back with longer post!
it has been a poo day here and as i type - torrential rain outside and gales.......... bah especially as poor mum and dad are now being buffetted on the irish sea returning home. really cried when they left - i miss them so much. they redecorated my living room - love it!

i have nearly all my xmas pressies got - sent them home with the parents and i just have dp's to get. he has given me his santa list to make it easier! i love xmas and my tree is going up in 2 weeks - hooray.

doghouse · 19/11/2006 17:39

bugmum - thanks a million! That is really helpful and makes me feel much happier more sorted ... was getting very confused!

thanks again

muminamini · 19/11/2006 18:18

Hi everyone
Bugmum - yey for a scan buddy! I can't wait - it seems ages off doesn't it!

I better not tell my Dad about al these people who think he is fab - he will get a big head...lol but yes he is, even without helping out financially he is brilliant. He had tears in his eyes today as he went out the door and DS shouted "luv yooou gwandad!" aaaah

We had a lovley walk - very cold but I like it like that - just poor DH gets sore ears - will have to get hima Beanie Hat! We went to a fab kiddies playground and DS had lots of fun.

We treated ourselves today and decided that the rest of the money is being put away but bought a Camcorder as we have wanted one for ages as we just don't want all the funny things DS does at the moment to be lost forever. We are really chuffed that we have been able to get one before the new baby comes. So we have just been having a laugh videoing DS. I have told DH though there is NO WAY I will have the brith video'ed - anyone gonna be brave enough ? If so I take my hat off to you!!!

Doghouse - I ditto Bug mums comments re clothes for Newborns and if your family is anything like mine just don't buy anything as I have NEVER IN MY LIFE seen as much stuff as we got bought when DS arrived.

Sally cinnamon - I think third trimester is 28 weeks....

AngeG - Get on the net girl and get burning the platic - it's just not worth trudging round the shops. I am going to do a bit more online shopping tonight in the comfor of my own home - sith no aches to pay for afterwards plus I find you save alot of money as lots of places have internet only money off deals etc.

Weeonion...have you ever read any Marian Keyes books? I don't know why but the way you describe your family reminds me of the irish family in her books (that is a nice thing I promise!) They sound lovley - hope you are not too blue tonight - I don't envy them the ferry crossing at all [vomit emoticon thing]

Well best get off for now, had a very lazy day and not done a great deal....been very relaxing and DH is making yummy salmon, roast tatos and veg for tea mmmmmmm

Anyone got any views on the Avent IQ steriliser? I just had a Tesco microwave one last time which did us fine (another thing I lent out and never got back) but I quite fancy the look of it - looks v high tech and apparently keep s the bottles sterile for 24 hrs... I was going to treat myself but just kept thinking £50 for that or £20 for a micro one....hmmmmmm
x

AngeG · 19/11/2006 18:37

MIAM - think you're right about internet shopping. Just been doing some on ebay.

I had a Avent Microwave steriliser last time but ended up having to use NUK Narrow neck bottles cos DS was prem and couldn't suck anything out of the Avent ones so ended up with a Babies r us eletric one.
I quite fancy the sound of that Avent one. Really I suppose it's about how much space you have in your kitchen, we've got a really small kitchen with a very tiny amount of work space so I suppose one I could leave in the microwave would be better, but we managed with one on the kitchen side last time.

If you want one you should get one it does look good.

Bugmum · 19/11/2006 18:59

Muminamini - Marian Keyes is my sister-in-law

IsabellaMoi · 19/11/2006 19:08

I've added myself in. At the moment I've got 2 different dates: the 11th and 14th. Both dates appear in my hospital records so we'll see which ends up being more accurate. My sister is always way overdue and as this is my first baby, I expect s/he'll be 'late.'

Bugmum - is that the first time you have told us that? If it is I have definitely met someone else related to her - maybe it was you!! will rack brain just in case wasn't posted on here...

Bugmum · 19/11/2006 19:15

Cornflake - seems rather more likely that I've told you before, I'd have thought. Can't remember, to be honest; it could easily have come up in passing. I would offer to wrack my brain as well, but I fear PG makes it unwrackable

IsabellaMoi · 19/11/2006 19:18

Also wanted to add my congrats to doghouse on your pink bean!

MIAM - what a sweetheart your dad is! That's excellent news.

Welcome eca!

Question for all the experienced mom's: What do you think of growbags (the 'bag-overalls' your baby sleeps in so they don't become uncovered at night?). I had never seen them in Canada so maybe they are more of a British thing? I've heard various MN's say they are on their 'definitely-must-have-no-matter-what' list.

DH and I are off for a week's holiday tomorrow so I won't be checking MN. Think I'll stand a chance of catching up on all that will be posted on here in a week?!!

Have a great week everyone!

Bugmum · 19/11/2006 19:28

At the risk of sounding like the class swot today (}, I LOVE grobags. DS has been in them since 12 weeks; took a week or two for him to get used to them (from swaddling) but then that was it, sorted. You can use them to regulate heat: right nightwear with right tog for any given temp (chart comes with each grobag). He's now nearly 22 months and still in them. When I take the sides off his cotbed, I guess I'll have to go with a duvet but I'm not planning that any time soon to be honest . When they are little, it takes so much worry out of it: no blankets to go over the face, no being too hot or too cold and so on. And they wash well and dry easily, too

CornflakeKid · 19/11/2006 19:35

Love grobags! Have bought one for £4 off ebay and will be getting the new stripey one with travel slots - to use at home as well. Have got myself 2 swaddling blankets too - in prep for my breastfeeding journey!

Been to relaxatio class today - only 20 more classes to get to grips with breathing....

I have decided to paint my nursery pale yellow with white furniture - was going to have white walls but dh not keen. Still haven't found a chair I like!

Have just eaten three pieces of lemon drizzle cake while waiting for kettle to boil- will need to have another with my cup of tea - baby needs it.

Not so much movement today - maybe the extra cake will help!

AngeG · 19/11/2006 19:40

Totally agree. Gro bags are fantastic. Used them from when ds was about 8wks old til he was nearly 3 when he moved into a big boy bed.
The travel ones are great for taking lo out of an evening in car or pushchair then move them straight to bed. Wouldn't be without them.
