For all those lovely bumps incubating until last few days of Oct and all November, spilling possibly over to December for the super comfortable babies- come and chat, rant, vent, chant, glow, sweat, watch nails grow whilst doing antenatal pilates/yoga/sleeping/eating/navel gazing and over analyse to your hormones content!

Optional - FB group is up and bumping, PM me with email to be added.

Bloody hell 36 is proper hot. Take care everyone lot's of rest and cold drinks. Difficult when you're a teacher I know.

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 28/06/2015 16:14

I don't drive and walk a lot but when DH drives I just take DS out of the car seat and put him in the pram and found it easy to do. DS much prefers the pram to the car seat anyway, and they aren't supposed to go for long in the car seat (2 hours max? I think?) I also cant easily lift the car seat with DS in, so it worked out well for us. All families and babies are different though so a travel system might be a must for others. I guess it depends on lifestyle, how often you use the car, and if they sleep in the car seat or not?

Laura7010 · 28/06/2015 17:20

Too many things to consider!! How are we supposed to know what the baby will like before its arrived!! Argh!!!!!

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 28/06/2015 17:38

I know, it's a pain! Everyone told me how amazing a baby Bjorn bouncy seat was and DS just screams his face off in it. Luckily we borrowed it from a friend or I'd have been a bit annoyed at spending the money. Going to try and get cheap stuff for this one and see what they like in case they also have a hatred of seats!
Same goes for nappies, bath stuff etc, sometimes they are allergic. Luckily DS seems to not be irritated by cheap nappies, only expensive ones like pampers bother him. I'm glad that's not the other way around Grin

annatha · 28/06/2015 18:59

I bought a babybjorn carrier brand new and used it twice as it killed my back and isn't good for babies hips. Such a waste of money!! My Moby wrap however was a lifesaver when she was a newborn. Looking forward to squishy wrap cuddles again this time.

tootsroots · 28/06/2015 19:20

I am totally definitely.. sort of.. perhaps.. maybe getting the Uppababy Cruz...

will take this convo to the FB group and see what they think at some point with pics! only issue being that it needs 2 hands to fold down but i am a little anti bugaboo as i am from Wandsworth and EVERy. SINGLE. YUMMY. MUMMY has one. probs as they are actually worth it and good.. but cutting off my NOSE to spite my face!

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 28/06/2015 19:32

I had a second hand bugaboo bee and didn't like it. Found it quite heavy and hard to carry if I needed to fold so sold it again. I thought I was the only person in London not to like it!

tootsroots · 28/06/2015 19:58

oh thank god!! people are quite tribal about it round here... i was looking at some prams in Peppermint in Northcote Road, Battersea today and this woman walked up and said.. don't bother looking just get the bugaboo.. (like money was no issue!!! ugh) the shop lady rolled her eyes and smiled... and carried on!

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 28/06/2015 20:10

Haha I had similar toots with a friend about the double bugaboo (donkey?) The only problems are it's massive and a mere £1300 Shock and then I'd imagine there's extras. Actually that's the other thing I hate about pram shopping in general, the price can be mysterious. I think "OK that's £300 (or whatever)" then there's a newborn bit, and a hood, and whatever else, it ends up being loads more

SnozzberryPie · 28/06/2015 21:36

Before shelling out £100s (£1000s?) for a travel system bear in mind that most people ditch them within a year in favour of a lightweight stroller! I think I'm going to use a combination of stretchy sling and stroller this time. I will mostly carry the baby for the first few months and use the buggy to carry our stuff and for dd to nap in. As the baby gets bigger I expect dd will be walking more and then the baby can go in the buggy. Well that's the plan anyway.

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 28/06/2015 21:43

I think I probably will use the sling and existing pushchair for a bit. DS has been a bit behind average with sitting etc though, so I'm not expecting him to be walking before this one arrives (he'll be 1 year old corrected), although he might surprise me! I doubt he'll be walking well enough and he gets quite sleepy so I think I will need a double. Really don't want a double though!
I'm going to research it all and try out the sling and pushchair and be ready to buy it if it proves too difficult or when baby gets too heavy for the sling

austengirl · 28/06/2015 21:57

Good to see you again Sleepless.

Enjoyed the lovely weather on Saturday, but definitely caught the sun on my neck and shoulders. Work can get pretty stuffy in the heat, so I'm hoping it won't be too bad this week. At least I'm off from Friday and I've got some Beck's Blue coming in my shopping delivery tomorrow. Smile

On the pram front, we're very fortunate to have been gifted my SiL's City Mini. Seems quite easy to handle, even on our gravel drive. I'm debating whether or not to swap out the existing seat for a carry cot until the baby doesn't need to lie flat--has anyone done this?

We've also bought a Maxi Cosi Cabriofix off a work colleague, so if we don't go the carry cot route, all we need is the adapters to fit it to the frame. I'd be curious to know if anyone has experience of getting a car seat on and off this pram and what it's like.

TakesTwoToTango · 28/06/2015 23:14

Laura, not that it helps you much but I really liked the bee! It was the lightest I could get that met all my needs, easy to fold, compact and had a good handle height for a tall person/couple. I also really liked that it was parent facing, lie flat enough to use from birth and small enough to keep using so I didn't ever need to buy another pushchair ( until I needed a double). Other plus for us (town centre location/ on street parking not necessarily outside the house, is that you can clip the car seat on without having to remove the seat, unlike most travel systems, so you can get complete pram plus car seat plus baby from car to house in one go.

mrswishywashy · 29/06/2015 09:04

An hour away from 20 week scan so hoping all is ok. Last night my partner felt little one kick for the first time. Have never felt him move in the morning so hope scan goes ok. He's most active in the evening.

In one of my nanny positions I had an 18 month old and new born. We had to be out of the house from at least 9-5pm each day. Parents had a double mclaren which was a pain to use. So I tended to have toddler walk as much as possible, or use buggy board. When she got tired we either sat and rested or she would go in single mclaren and I'd sling baby. Sling was an Ella Roo mei tai so also worked with me carrying toddler on back and baby in single mclaren. We did a lot of walking but toddler was amazing really and it was good for her health. I've used the Phil and teds in a few positions and I find it quite heavy especially once you've got both children and bags on board. Uppababy vista is nice and easy to push and the older model would be fine for newborn and toddler. The donkey I find too wide and heavy. But it really depends on each circumstance. I prefer that by the time toddler is two they are doing a majority of walking.

Austengirl, I've also used the city mini. I found the carry cot quite small and baby out grew it by eight weeks so as it will be winter a padded blanket in pram would be fine. I did have the option of putting car seat on pram and it was easy enough however baby liked the space in the pram seat so just used that.

I love the bee as well, perfect for inner city living especially if having to carry up and down stairs or having a tiny lift.

Frescoed · 29/06/2015 09:27

Good luck mrsww for your scan this morning, and for any other scanees today.

All this talk of buggie/prams/car seats is scary, we spent half an hour looking at them online to get an idea of budgets a few weeks ago, and both had to have a lie-down afterwards Smile

Decided finally yesterday that squeezing into my normal clothes wasn't great, so bought some maternity stuff online in the sales, found a few bargains - mostly a bit depressing though, what a swizz...

annatha · 29/06/2015 11:13

fresco I find most maternity and nursing wear disappointing to be honest. It all seems very samey and even things that cost £££ have a cheap and nasty feel to them. Ive got mat jeans but at the moment I'm living in mat leggings from eBay and dresses cut under my boobs that should hopefully last all summer.

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 29/06/2015 11:27

Maternity wear is crap. Luckily I have some good summer stuff from last time but the in between weather things I'm struggling with. I just want a t shirt that's not black, white or stripey. And some joggers / baggy trousers over bump for hospital. I was very swollen last time and couldn't get jeans on. Could just leave in my PJs I suppose but might be a bit cold!

BowiesJumper · 29/06/2015 11:59

GOOD LUCK SCANNERS!

I've got some good maternity bits from New Look, and some nice skinny jeggings from H&M. Most of the stuff in other places is hideous or really expensive though. I'm hoping to make do with what I've bought (a vest, 2 tops, a tshirt, 2 dresses and jeggings - all dead cheap) mixed with my more stretchy "normal" clothes!

I'm still leaning towards the mama's and papa's armadillo flip xt for our buggie. It folds really small, is light, faces both ways etc.

Lauramum23 · 29/06/2015 14:23

Just had a quick look through here haven't been on for ages fb is just easier!
Kind of glad I don't have to pram shop too much choice and too expensive!
Good luck on the heat you Londoners! We generally have a breeze from the North Sea so it's usually bearable Grin

Gr33dyeggs · 29/06/2015 22:02

It is warm tonight here too (north west )but I'm still wearing a cardi! I always do even in abroad holidays- its kind of comforting.

I've just got a couple of summer mat clothes from a colleague - so skirts and vests all the way.

Re prams Im lookin forward to dusting off my silver cross and my slings.

pennygirl26 · 29/06/2015 22:30

i got my pram yesterday. i got a graco never heard much about them but i liked it so hope it all goes well with it. im mainly in the car as live in the middle of nowhere.

austengirl · 29/06/2015 23:03

I had heard the carrycots were on the small side, so thanks for confirming mrswishywashy. How did your scan go? I hope you and everyone with scans this week has good news. Smile

As it was payday last week, I ordered a few bits from Jojo (thank you mumsnet discount code!). My mum's bringing over more maternity stuff from the states this week, so I hope that's it until I need a nursing top or two. And more bras, still haven't had much luck with those.

Had a bit of a crap day at work and then a mini meltdown when things I was expecting in our online shop didn't turn up (not the store's fault, DH just didn't put them in the trolley). Good thing I'm home alone tonight as he's on a work do. But I made a decent tea out of random things in the freezer and have been listening to music, so not all bad.

HeirToTheIronThrone · 30/06/2015 07:34

Anyone else's hips agony?? Finding it really hard to sleep, even with pillows between my knees!

PooSweats84 · 30/06/2015 08:24

Yep, I've had problems with my hips for about the last month, even with pillows they are agony most nights and I have to wake up to turn over roughly every half hour. Last Monday I could barely walk all day and then they slowly improved throughout the week, but it's always there. I've been referred for physio which starts in a few weeks and told all I can do is take paracetamol in the mean time.

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 30/06/2015 08:33

No hip pain here, but I get the occasional sudden very painful feeling down the sides of my bump low down. I'm wondering if it's to do with the previous scar? Never had this last time.
Hope you both feel better poo and heir
