Ok so I had enjoyed my Aubergine and lentil curry until I just read MACARONI CHEESE - undeniably the best food ever created. I now want that sooooo much and am unhappy about my brown bowl of healthiness / slop.

Fizzy - good luck good luck good luck!

Kep - I have the test this Fi but annoyingly my appt with the results isn't until 3 weeks later (2nd) because all the doctors at the place I'm having it done are at some foetus conference or something the week before. I keep telling myself though that the results are what they are and I'm in the really fortunate position that I'll have had 2 scans already by the time I go back for the results which is 2 more than many would have...

Lookingforadvice123 · 08/06/2015 21:06

manatee yes I've had twangy pains, wouldn't describe mine like a period but "twang" is a good description.

beemybaby yes I know what you mean that someone always has to be that 1 in 1500...but i find stats like that very reassuring. We would consider terminating if the amnio showed the baby had downs, hence why I'm so worried.

Lookingforadvice123 · 08/06/2015 21:10

Ps good luck with the scan fizzy!

Bovnydazzler · 08/06/2015 21:32

Evening all?

How's everyone else's bump looking vs what they expected? I'm only 7 weeks but I've suddenly popped, can't do up trousers and clearly a bump there (even in reality it's just bloating). It's so big ( maybe size of when I was 15 weeks with DS) that it's making me question my dates/twin possibility- coupled with my CB 3+ Weeks at 12 dpo (13 days post +ve OPK)...

Has any of yourselves got an early bloat/baby belly?

crumble74 · 08/06/2015 21:37

Jeans are getting a bit tighter bovny but I couldn't call it a bump yet!

kep I'm also having the harmony test on the 22nd!

Good luck with scan fizzy.

Going off to dream about macaroni cheese...mmm

MaybeMrsMum2016 · 08/06/2015 21:43

bovny My bloating is up and down. Felt nice a thin a few days ago, but now (8 weeks and 2 days) I'm either back to being pretty bloated or a bump is starting to show. This will be DC 1 so it's probably just bloating.

Are you in a position to have an early scan bovny to check dates roughly/check possibility of twins?

mrschatty · 08/06/2015 21:46

Yup got a big belly...but must only be noticeable to me. A lady at work was talking about how lovely and slim I am..'not for long!' I thought but my tummy is much more rounded and my weekly photos prove it! I'm 9wk though. Just had 2 packets of crisps want a third somebody stop me!!!!!

Blackandwhitecat3 · 08/06/2015 21:49

Bovny I "popped" at 6-7 weeks but my tummy's gone down a bit since then. Now I'm just sometimes bloated in the evening but it's gone down by morning. I can tell the difference to hat I normally look like though!

Manatee and Looking I've had those twangy pains too, my guess is that it's the muscles around the uterus expanding.

kep1979 · 08/06/2015 21:57

joey yes that is how I feel. At this rate I will have had two scans, test results and know the sex before I get seen by anyone from the nhs. I know I'm fortunate to be able to afford it, but it does seem a bit odd - surely there should be more support in the early stages.

fish thanks for the tips - I think it was crap posture at work as I was noticeable slouching today. Mostly to hide my belly under my desk though!

My early bloating seems to have gone but my whole waist/lower belly is just thicker. I bought a size 10 work trousers a week ago (so a size bigger than normal) and they are already tight. But have lost two kilos. I felt like I looked noticeably bigger today - and Dh agrees. I am going to be massive!!

Bovnydazzler · 08/06/2015 22:10

I've been thinking about an early scan, I was hoping nhs may just work off my LMP (which would date me 10 weeks rather than 7) when offering me my '12' week scan. Booking in appointment next Thursday so Ill ask then.

Glad to hear the bloat isn't lasting for too many weeks for all!

kep1979 · 08/06/2015 22:12

crumble we can hold each other's hand during the wait for results!

Ifelola · 08/06/2015 23:07

Hey everyone I have been sitting quietly in the corner :)

Sleepy I can't stop with the haribo either! And I have a definite (sweetie) bump already. 8 weeks tomorrow.

I love frankfurters too. I tried some quorn hotdogs for a healthier(?) option but they just didn't hit the spot and made the microwave smell funny.

I wanted to ask you ladies for advice on what vitamins to take? I have been using Superdrug Pregnancy Care which is like an own brand Pregnacare, but they are nearly all gone now and I don't know what is best to replace them with. I saw that Pregnacare have their original vitamins which is a fiver for a month, but then they also have original plus omega and then original plus omega plus calcium, and each one getting pricier. Is it worth paying the extra for the extra vitamins for brains and eyes and skeleton and all that or is sticking to the cheaper original packs ok?

My midwife rang today for booking appointment next Monday and she says the scan date is in the post. Feeling real!

coffeenut · 08/06/2015 23:14

I would def go for ones with omega (or take a separate omega supplement which is tested mercury free). V important for development.

Feel very slack but still only managing to skim read everyone's posts! Congrats for all good scan results and fingers crossed for all those coming up.

I have to admit I've been staying away a little as I feel fairly positive but seem to always find something new to worry about when I read the thread (perfumes, paracetamol etc).

gouda I keep meaning to weigh myself first thing in the morning like you suggested to get a better idea of how much I've put on. I think the French would be horrified with me Sad

Juniper44 · 09/06/2015 00:07

Coffeenut it seems like everything is bad for us. Think you just need to take it all with a pinch of salt, and choose for yourself.

When I was pregnant in 2013, the media had a frenzy over the idea that certain plastic containers could pass harmful chemicals to the unborn. Nothing came of it; it was just news fodder.

With regards to the paracetamol thing, the study was in mice. It was one study. The NHS has not changed its guidance because of it, and so I will continue to take paracetamol. No idea what the perfume thing is.

When pregnant, the whole world seems to have an opinion on your body and what harm you may be doing (actual or fantasy) to your baby. I see it as doing a risk assessment; some things I will avoid (ibuprofen) whereas some things I think are unlikely to cause harm (runny eggs).

Juniper44 · 09/06/2015 00:12

Caffeine's another one, actually. The research shows a correlation between high caffeine intake and miscarriage; not a causation. The kind of women who have stressful, caffeine fuelled lives tend to be prone to miscarriage; either due to a combination of lifestyle factors or being older when they conceive.

coffeenut · 09/06/2015 00:14

I know juniper; wise words Smile. I seem to get increased anxiety when pregnant and am easily stressed by small things, even when I know the risk is negligible. It can be the mere mention of the possibilities that get me!! I think I'll feel better when first trimester is over and all the scans and bloods are over with (provided they come back normal of course!!)

OTheHugeManatee · 09/06/2015 07:33

I'm with Juniper. There are some sensible bits of advice and some that just seem designed to make you paranoid to no particular purpose. My rule of thumb is that ingesting something that definitely contains a harmful substance (eg alcohol, ibuprofen, mercury heavy fish) should be avoided or minimised but the 'might contain' ones (runny eggs that might have salmonella, blue cheese that might have listeria etc) merit more research and if the risks seem low I will ignore them. I think a life based on eliminating risk altogether is likely to be quite a stunted one so I'm not going to start living like that now.

That said, I've not fancied a dippy egg for a while but if I do I'll have one.

Blackandwhitecat3 · 09/06/2015 07:40

Urgh, v dizzy again this morning. Feel like I might keel over any minute. Hope not!

The thing about everything in pregnancy is that nothing is guaranteed to be 100% safe, and scientists do try to do studies to find out but it's difficult to give definites, because you can't (obviously) test things on pregnant women. So everything's a risk, and we just need to sensibly decide which risks to take. Apart from smoking, which is clearly dangerous.

I can't go near perfume or paint, alcohol, coffee, smoke or anything elseat the moment anyway, because even the faintest smells are overpowering, so that solves that one for me.

Oysterbabe · 09/06/2015 08:00

I'm still doing runny eggs, I think the risk of salmonella is very low these days, but wouldn't touch alcohol. Foetal Alcohol Syndrome (small head, learning and behavioural problems) is very real. Although this is usually caused by relatively large and regular quantities, I believe there is no safe amount. Babies bodies are just not equipped to deal with alcohol, it's toxic. Likewise smoking.

BecSarge1980 · 09/06/2015 08:35

I'm due jan too... Can totally relate to all the sickness/tiredness/soreness etc... Am getting bigger everyday, not showing yet but carrying weight everywhere else. Takes bit of getting used to as my size 8 stuff seems to be mocking me! Cue clothes strewn everywhere and me crying I can't fit in anything... Have (kind of) accepted now. Was wondering where best place to get maternity stuff is? Was thinking of trip in to oxford street as not far from me? Or is there better finds online? Anyone thinking of wearing mat stuff yet too? Hmm

Oysterbabe · 09/06/2015 08:56

They have some ok maternity stuff in debenhams. Luckily I used to be fat and still have some too big clothes to use for a few months. Grin

loveulotslikejellytots · 09/06/2015 09:06

I've definitely got a bloat on. Luckily being on the curvier side of skinny (like miles over) it doesn't show on me. I've noticed I've changed shape rather than gaining a bump as such. My whole mid section has sort of shifted.

I've still been very lucky, only nausea no sickness. Tiredness is in full force. I think I've overdone it a few days in a row, up at 5:30 and not going to be till 11pm, had a horrendous headache last night and nausea was the worst it's ever been. DH sent me to bed with a big bottle of water. I slept from 8pm till 7am this morning. Felt so much better!

I've been looking online at maternity clothes, Asos and asda have some nice basics and work stuff. I think both have free delivery/returns and asda you can collect from store. I haven't found much in stores to actually try on though. M&S and mothercare had some nice dresses and jeans but they were a bit more expensive.

loveulotslikejellytots · 09/06/2015 09:08

BecSarge1980, I've ordered some maternity leggins, my usual ones just don't seem as secure as they used to and they constantly fall down. But like I said, I've changed shape rather than gained a bump, I don't think that helps. I've put all my jeans away, just too uncomfy and the waistband pushing on my stomach makes me feel sick.

moonshine25 · 09/06/2015 09:12

I'm the same with the bloat ladies! Definitely have a tummy bump which wasn't there before but I reckon it's a combination of too many crisps and bloat! Haha. Will def be wearing baggy jumpers from now on. Live in leggings anyway thankfully as the thought of jeans fills me with dread.

The retching after teeth brushing is still here! Yuk! Although feel very lucky that I'm not actually sick.

So pleased you had a good nights sleep loveyoulots and that you're feeling a bit better today Smile

So quick question about booking in appt...for those already been for theirs, I wondered what health questions they ask? Particularly about hubby as he won't be here and is away at the mo so need to ask him before I go for the appt. So glad we have this chat to ask questions on!!!

moonshine25 · 09/06/2015 09:13

Oh just seen your most recent post loveyoulots - where did you get your maternity leggings from? If you don't mind me asking Smile
