When I lived in London, I tried on loads of maternity clothing from all different stores - the best stuff was in H&M (Oxford st), with some bits from Seraphine (kensington I think?) and Topshop. The Debenhams stuff I got was dire (this is years ago though). ASOS brand maternity stuff in my experience is cheap and nasty.

Hate the dizziness B&W! The worst of mine has gone now luckily - comes back when v tired or hungry tho.

coffeenut · 09/06/2015 09:21

Re booking in appointment - do you drink, so you smoke, blood type, have you had a recent pap smear, history of STIs, history of depression or mental illness, any history of cancer in the immediate family (not sure how this is relevant!) ... trying to think of others! Cant remember any that related to DH apart from blood type.

Leggings - mamas and papas ones were the comfiest but there were over bump and quite roomy. Also got some from DPs which were fine.

Oysterbabe · 09/06/2015 09:22

Gagged brushing my teeth this morning and again when someone was walking in front of me and smoking. Closest I've come to puking.

AlohaMama · 09/06/2015 09:23

Hurrah, I managed to do some jeans up today!!! Probably helps that I don't feel so sick so don't mind the tight waistband, or maybe these are just my loosest ones. Either way it's nice to wear something other than the same leggings which I've been wearing the past 3 days!!

I ordered jeans from Vertbaudet - they seem to have a nice selection and I love their kids clothes. Once I get them I will report back. Have previously found some nice basics in New Look. And jeans from mothercare.

I agree with you manatee about weighing up risks. With salmonella obviously you don't want to get it while pregnant but risks of getting it are pretty small. However with lysteria not only do you not want to ingest it while pregnant but something about being pregnant actually makes you more susceptible to lysteriosis, so that is one I am more cautious to avoid. As for things like raw fish etc, I say bring on the sushi if only I lived somewhere cosmopolitan enough that you could actually get any

loveulotslikejellytots · 09/06/2015 09:27

Moonshine, I got them from asda. They're over the bump ones and come in a maternity starter pack, leggins, long sleeve top and a bump band. It was only cheap (about £14) I thought I'd start with those, if they're no good I can just use them for wearing around the house.

Joey0805 · 09/06/2015 09:28

I've got a really weird bloated belly - it's horrible! I'm 9+6 and this is 1st pregnancy so it's not a baby bump at this point (I'm also 6ft tall so the baby has loads of room in there!) but I feel soooo big! My belt is on the same hole though for higher waisted dresses so I know I can't be much bigger yet anywhere apart from lower abdomen but even when I stand tall and tense I can't get it flat any more... I was so naive I literally thought given the baby is so small there would be no change in my body for the first 3 months!

I feel weird about wearing maternity clothes until I've had my 12 week scan so am trying to go for my looser dresses and floaty tops at the moment.

moonshine25 · 09/06/2015 09:30

Thanks so much coffee Smile won't panic about asking him lots of questions then just his blood type! I'd better dig my card out which tells me mine as well!

Oh oyster the gagging is not fun is it?!

Oh and kep I know you mentioned your sciatica earlier, hope you're coping? I have a bad back and saw my GP to ask what was safe to take and she seemed to this codeine was ok in pregnancy but maybe you could check with your doctor too? I'm still going to try not to take anything if I can help it but it was good to know.

SleepyDragon · 09/06/2015 09:31

Morning ladies!

is it bad i had a chocolate croissant and a packet of quavers for my breakfast just now??

i also had an iced cappucino because it only had 80mg caffeine in it and i've not had coffee for sooooooooooooo long!

Still got the headache i had yesterday though and its driving me mad as i have no paracetamols, only ibuprofen which i can't have gah!

never heard of the perfume thing and i have been wearing it. We also decided that if we get a 'high risk' outcome from the NT test we won't have the amniocentis (sp) because we would still have the baby either way (downs or not) - also it worth remembering that even a 1/75 chance it will be means there's a higher chance it won't be, gotta think positive girlies! Grin

I did have a lot of bloating early on but it seems to have gone down now, my boobs are still a bit achy (mainly when its chilly) which is an experience for me as i've never had sensitive/responsive boobs just due to their size and i'm having little bits of infequent nausea.

I am chuffing emotional though - my god i could cry at anything!!!

TeenieDeenie · 09/06/2015 09:37

Blackandwhitecat The dizziness is awful isn't it? FX it passes soon. I sometimes worry I'm going to faint which wouldn't be ideal at work as no one knows yet. Also with you on the strong smells, my mum tried to take me into Yankee Candle on Sunday and I nearly threw up in the doorway. No way I could of gone in there, the smells are so so strong!

Juniper you speak alot of sense! Smile

Loveulots I hate the feeling of tight waistbands pushing on my stomach aswell. It's so uncomfy, especially at night with pyjama bottoms too. Think I'm gonna have to buy some nice nighties soon.

Re weight gain, at 7+1 I've gained 4 pounds Blush and have gone from a small size 12 to a large bloated size 12. I haven't been eating any more than normal and obviously am not drinking alcohol since my BFP but still gained weight, weird! The weight seems to be all round my middle though and I definitely looking more pregnant in the evening.

Whoever mentioned twins, I wouldn't be surprised if they told me I was having twins at my scan, just going by the dates on the digi and how big I am/feel. Plus, on a thread with 74 ladies we're probably due a few sets of twins. Ooohhh, who will it be???? Grin

TeenieDeenie · 09/06/2015 09:41

coffeenut · 09/06/2015 09:47

thanks teenie - my 12 week scan is on the 26th. Looks like I have a few scan buddies! Smile

The strong smells are awful aren't they? I came very close to passing out in the perfume department of Selfridges when pregnant with DD1.

TeenieDeenie · 09/06/2015 09:57

No probs coffee

Oh and good luck today Fizzy!

fourlegstwolegs · 09/06/2015 11:10

My house is a building site. The plasterer has bailed. The builders didn't turn up today. I need a plumber. And I feel sick and very tired! :(

loveulotslikejellytots · 09/06/2015 11:12

Can I ask a question to anyone who has breastfed their baby before? I was talking to DH the other night and we were discussing feeding. I'd love to bf for as long as possible, but how does it work logistically? Everything I've read says that expressing is best avoided for a couple of weeks until your supply is established, newborns cluster feed a lot etc. DH is worried that if I'm doing all the feeding, literally 24/7 until say 5 or 6 weeks when I can express, I'll be exhausted. In his enthusiasm he is saying that he wants to share night feeds but can't without certain equipment unless I'm expressing Grin.

I know NB's are exhausting, but I have to say i'd not really thought about it. Also, if you are doing all the feeds does that have an effect on your DH bonding with the baby?

BecSarge1980 · 09/06/2015 11:12

Thanks all for the tips on mat clothes...def be looking into the leggings from ASDA jellytots :)

Yeah I feel like the headache is never ending SleepyDragon! I have suffered from chronic daily headache/migraines this past year...roughly the same time as i took provera to induce a period... and was hoping they would dissipate a bit... waiting to be in second trimester as that seems to sort things for some women...has anyone experienced the same?

Feel like I could cope with it all a bit better minus the tension type headache :(

loveulotslikejellytots · 09/06/2015 11:13

Fourlegstwolegs - that sounds annoying. Have you got major renovations going on? It sounds like it!

SleepyDragon · 09/06/2015 11:53

BecSarge i used a 4head stick on my forehead (funnily enough) which usually eases headaches a bit but it hasn't touched it today - draining isn't it.

Loveulots i was talking about BFing to my SIL the other day as the thought of it turns my stomach (sorry little Jellybean - rubs tummy) she BF for 2 weeks only then expressed and used formula. My nephew was a week early and a tiny 5lb 2 and its done him no harm.

She was knackered for the 2 weeks (and had had a c-section to recover from) but then BIL helped out after the first 2 weeks with the bottles.

coffeenut · 09/06/2015 12:01

Personally loveulots, I found breastfeeding relatively straightforward and expressing a bit of a faff. Expressing and bottle feeding take a bit of preparation (sterilizing, reheating etc as well as the expressing itself). Yes you do get tired but this will be regardless of whether you night-feed or not. My babies would fall back asleep on the boob when they woke in the night, and therefore it was far easier for me to settle than DH. That's not to say this is the best way of doing things - but it worked for us in the early months.

loveulotslikejellytots · 09/06/2015 12:27

Thanks sleepy and coffee. I guess that's kind of what I thought. Surely the baby crying in the night will wake me even if I'm not the one doing that feed. I just think it's such a short space of time, I won't be at work, a bit of sleep deprivation is to be expected. If it's really that bad I've got no issues with topping up with formula.

Juniper44 · 09/06/2015 12:49

I mixed fed from the beginning as DD never bloody slept (undiagnosed lactose intolerance...) I was hallucinating because I was so tired, and when I realised I couldn't tell if I was standing up or lying down, I figured something had to change.
Worked for us and we'll be doing the same this time, most likely.

Teenie I've wondered about twins. I got my bfp at 6dpo and when I did a digital test at 7dpo, it said 1-2 weeks.

I'm sure my morning sickness and tiredness was this early or severe last time, but maybe that's just juggling a toddler / the beauty of memory loss.

Time will tell- I have another scan next Tueaday. Last one showed one sack, so if it is twins, they'd be identical.

Juniper44 · 09/06/2015 12:54

*wasn't

fishermanswife1 · 09/06/2015 13:13

moon for booking app I wasn't asked blood type as they test that from the bloods they take, and didn't ask for DH's.
They did warn me before to sit down with DH andmake sure I knew his family history, I.e. any birth defects or inherited illnesses. Was glad I did this as this was asked about in depth. So would recommend you do that. Even things like a family member having epilepsy etc.

I am bloat central at the mo!

fishermanswife1 · 09/06/2015 13:23

P.s. thanks for the stats Teenie

EdgarAllenPoe · 09/06/2015 13:30

I'm doing up everything in a house you could imagine. We already finished the stairs, the restructuring that required (previous owners liked knocking walls down without installing structural lintels!), installed heating last year. We're in the middle of a re-wire which is a pain because all the floors and walls are solid. Once that's done we might be able to think about actual plastering and decorating. I'm optimistic about having our bedroom and the front room done before baby comes. Possibly the dining room too. Baby will be sleeping in our room for the first few months, so the nursery will come next but probably after the birth. The kitchen and bathroom are old and ugly, but functional so they will wait. I knew this would always be the deal when we bought the place. Unfortunately I've now discovered the smell of brick dust and wet mortar makes me nauseous - so that would be every room. Joy! At least it's drying quickly now the weather's better.

fourlegstwolegs · 09/06/2015 13:45

Jellytots yes, major structural stuff too. Like Edgar there's probably no chance that it will all be done in time for Jan but will be greatly improved on the current situ!
