liliana I think it's because I am uncertain on dates, and could be 10+ wks now. I'm off on holiday on Sat for 2 weeks, so if I was that far along and they waited till I came back, then I wouldn't get a scan till 13-14wks. I think due to the uncertainty of dates they were keen for me to be seen sooner so I didn't miss the window for the nuchal testing. I also get the impression there may have been a cancellation as there was no choice in times it was the only spot avaialble. I'm not complaining!

AlohaMama · 08/06/2015 15:12

kep I think you can find out gender, as they're extracting the fetal DNA that is floating around your blood (I think) in which case you could see if the baby was XX or XY. Don't quote me on it though!

kep1979 · 08/06/2015 15:13

lilliana a chugger is a charity collector on the street Smile

kep1979 · 08/06/2015 15:17

Thanks aloha - it's not the reason we are having the test but would be nice to know if it is available. We were going to have a scan at 16-17 weeks and take the children, but this would save us the £50, which is good as the Harmony is quite expensive. Having said that we aren't being charged for the scan part of the test as we have previously had a scan with the same company.

Oysterbabe · 08/06/2015 15:20

Chugger = Charity Mugger

Lookingforadvice123 · 08/06/2015 15:42

sleepydragon I bought a pack of tangfastics today too! Sucking on them is good for nausea I've found, trying not to have too many though.

I've started to really worry about the downs screening these last few days as well as just anything else generally being wrong with the baby at the 12 week scan! At my 8 week scan the sonographer said everything looked great but the baby's so small they can't really see much can they! My age (27) means I'm lower risk for downs (stats say 1 in 1100 odd) but I'm still so worried Sad

fishermanswife1 · 08/06/2015 15:43

Such lovely posts abut everyone's scans, both today and upcoming. Grin

Thank God my meeting today finished a bit early. Just can't shake these awful cramps and it's exhausting. TMI but I'm really hoping it's trapped wind and nothing more sinister. Just a 2.5 hour muggy train journey now, me and the cramps... Wish me luck!

frozenfairy123 · 08/06/2015 17:05

Off work today as feeling rotten. Hate morning sickness/ vomiting all day long. Went to gp to get pills but they were so unsympathetic. The weeks can't go fast enough. X

Joey0805 · 08/06/2015 17:34

Kep - yep, Harmony can tell for for sure if it's a boy or girl! I can't wait to know :)

I've been a bit less sick over the las few days but I'm so knackered and my boobs still kill (and are huge) so I'm trying not to let myself worry that it's a bad thing!

FizzyPinkWine · 08/06/2015 17:37

Poor you frozen. Hope you feel better soon.
Have got another scan tomorrow, should be 9+4. Really stressing about it because I haven't got this far in any of my last three pregnancies. I'm not sure if my mind is playing tricks on me but I'm spending half the time feeling like my symptoms have completely disappeared and half the time feeling really sick. Really hoping it's ok tomorrow but it's like I have to feel like everything's going to go wrong to sort of protect myself from what could be.
Great to hear that all the scans and appointments are going well.

Oysterbabe · 08/06/2015 18:17

I'll be thinking of you Fizzy, it'll all be fine I'm sure. Thanks

It's OK if my diet is 90% cold sausage rolls with ketchup right? Blush

moonshine25 · 08/06/2015 18:19

Just having the 12 week scan Teenie,- although hoping to have it before then as go on hol at 11+4 for 2 weeks so don't want to miss out on the nf test.

Thinking of all you ladies feeling poorly! Hope it passes as it should at the 12 week mark, or earlier if poss! And congrats on all the great scan news. Fab!!

moonshine25 · 08/06/2015 18:20

As long as you're eating something oyster Smile yum...sausage rolls!!

SleepyDragon · 08/06/2015 18:34

To be honest that's why I started eating them Looking.... I've been very lucky so far, some bad bouts of nausea but no actual vomiting.

I'm having a weird day today, churning tummy, really hungry but not sure what I want, dizzy... Have given in to a craving for a can of full fat coke though as is only 40mg of caffeine and I haven't had any for last 3 days.

BeeMyBaby · 08/06/2015 18:36

looking unless you would consider aborting if there was found to be a problem there is no point worrying. What will be will be, just think there are plenty of things which don't show up on any scan which can be far worse (like some cases of autism) and if you spend all your time worrying you will never get to enjoy anything about pregnancy/baby. Incidentally my cousin had a baby when she was about 25 who had a significant chromosome disorder (worse than downs as her daughter is very very debilitated) so it really can happen at any age and stats are meaningless if you happen to be that 1 in 1100

OTheHugeManatee · 08/06/2015 18:59

Anyone else getting a twanging achy feeling in their lower belly sometimes? The midwife said it's probably my uterus stretching but it feels a bit similar to the start of a period, meaning I'm on constant anxious knicker watch Confused

Tonicandgin · 08/06/2015 19:05

Yep Manatee. Had it last time too, totally normal.

TeenieDeenie · 08/06/2015 19:58

Fizzy I'll be thinking about you tomorrow, fingers and toes tightly crossed for you.

Today felt like the slowest day ever. Constant nausea and bouts of feeling quite faint/dizzy/light headed. Is anyone getting this?

ValancyJane · 08/06/2015 20:15

Fizzy Keeping fingers and toes crossed for your scan tomorrow.

Manatee I'm 7+1 and have had that loads! Remember googling it a few weeks back and found loads of threads saying it's normal.

Have been stressing today of my lack of nausea, it's been hideous for the last four days, and then today absolutely nothing. Am sure it's all fine, but the sudden lack of it was a bit disconcerting. I hate it when I don't feel pregnant - it makes me doubt it all!! Did everyone else's come and go like this? On the other hand, have been SO blooming tired (two hour nap after work...), so at least I still have that symptom!

Also I thought of you ladies tonight - OH was working late and I was on my own for dinner, really fancied macaroni cheese so went and raided Waitrose for posh macaroni cheese, and spotted a pack of vegetarian frankfurters... Naturally I had to buy them and mix them in, really hit the spot!! :)

OTheHugeManatee · 08/06/2015 20:19

OMG I NEED macaroni cheese now Grin

mrschatty · 08/06/2015 20:25

Aw I just went to pick up DH from work as he kindly lent me his car while mine being fixed stopped at garaged really fancied sweets but didn't know 'what' so idiot brains here just left it...wish id bought SOMETHING!

ValancyJane · 08/06/2015 20:25

Confession time: I almost bought the enormous macaroni cheese for two on a technicality that clearly the embryo fancied some... Talked myself out of being that greedy (but only just - it had pancetta in which nearly tipped the balance)!!!

kep1979 · 08/06/2015 20:42

Good luck for tomorrow fizzy

joey when is your harmony?

Did someone say they had sciatica? I've just had it start Hmm My usual "treatment" would be two codeine and a hot water on the painful bit.... obva can't do the tablets but is a hot water on my bum/lower back too close to Bean? Don' want to boil him!

Having super noodles for supper Smile

fishermanswife1 · 08/06/2015 21:01

What a day! Hideous cramps, nausea, dizziness. I'm off to bed already. Lucky it's all worth it Smile.

Yes kep I have sciatica. I do still put a hot water bottle on my back, but not actually a hot one, a warm water bottle and DH will give my lower back a rub too. Read this is fine, and suggested to help stomach cramps too. MW also suggested paracetamol if needed. I'm trying to be good and watch my sitting posture while working too, which is helping.

And thinking of you tomorrow fizzy!

Blackandwhitecat3 · 08/06/2015 21:02

"Chugger" ha ha ha I've never heard that before. Oyster sausage rolls....mm...you've started something there I feel.

I bought loads of sweets last week to stop nausea but can't face any of them! Bean is definitely making me pro-carbs and anti-sweets. According to some people that means it's a boy.

Feel really lucky that I've had low nausea today - feels like I've escaped Smile, although there's still enough of it there in the background so I don't need to worry.

Liliana I'm susceptible to hay fever too, and so I take a spoonful of local honey every day. I'm not sure how it works, but somehow the exposure to nectar from the right flowers helps your body deal with the pollen. It works, though it can sometimes take a few days or weeks to kick in, but it's by far the nicest medicine I've ever had! Local = within a few miles, I get mine from a beekeeper who lives 2 miles away.
