New thread for the January babies

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
kep1979 · 07/06/2015 10:44

Well I started feeling sick so felt marginally better, then fell back to sleep for an hour or so. Just woke up and boobs definitely hurt! Weird!

I'm missing alcohol a bit, especially a lovely glass of Provençal rosé in this sunshine. Or a crisp g&t. I need to get some koppaberg too!

Had a chat with do last night about antenatal testing and we have decided to book the harmony test. It's £425 with a scan beforehand so get to see Bean again soon Smile

STILL no contact from midwife or scan letter - going to call dept on Monday to check they at least have me on file.

Can people remember if they had their 20 week scan at 20 weeks or was it 19-21 weeks? I'll be on holiday in France, going when I'm 20 weeks and flying back when I'm 21. So wondered if 21+ was too late and

Oysterbabe · 07/06/2015 10:47

I had a work night out on Friday and managed to sneakily order virgin strawberry mojitos. They looked like the real deal so no one said anything.

In last night's disturbing dream I was discharging black tar. Lovely.

6 weeks today. I made a bacon sandwich then totally didn't want it, the most nauseous I've felt so far. Forced it down anyway and feel ok now.

I also can't wait for all the births in January, hearing the birth stories and finding out all the names. It's so exciting Smile

fishermanswife1 · 07/06/2015 10:51

Oh yes mrschatty hormones are giving my moods a whirl too.

Glad you're feeling happier kep even if that does mean a bit sore and sicky!

cat I had a hen last week, got another next weekend and 4 weddings coming up. Luckily I'll be around 15 weeks by the first wedding. But still keeping quiet at next weeks hen.

Any advice on not giving the game away? They are all looking forward to a big night out and the hot tub the place has, which mw has said is a big no no of course.

Lookingforadvice123 · 07/06/2015 11:35

I've just done a stupid thing and was reading the mc threads Sad don't know why I do it as obviously the only people who post on the threads will be people who've had mc, but now I can't help think that something could still go wrong even though I'm 10 weeks tomorrow and everything was fine when I had the scan at 8 weeks. Got another early scan booked for this Thursday so at least it's not too long to wait...then it's 2 weeks until my 12 week scan, when I will be so nervous again about the NT test too. God help me when I actually have the baby, imagine how much I'll worry then!

Lookingforadvice123 · 07/06/2015 11:36

fishermanswife it's so tough not giving it away especially with a hot tub. You could say you have eczema which it would aggravate...but I think people will probably guess!

mrschatty · 07/06/2015 12:12

DH just remembered he needs to go into the office next sat...exactly when we have our babybond scan booked in...doh! Preg hormones told him 'well if I can't change it to the Sunday I'm going on my own...' luckily I just called them and managed to change it to the Sunday 14th so crisis (for him) averted...feel like everything is so far away and even when it seems to be getting closer it's not! 9 weeks tomorrow I just keep telling myself...anyone else getting a bump? My belly is really sticking out there and I'm usually a slim 10 so it's v noticeable!

Readyforthefuture · 07/06/2015 12:22

I'm finally feeling like I'm able to attempt some proper food but I think my stomach has shrunk - very frustrating and I don't want to push things in case it brings back the sickness.

I'm not missing alcohol at all so far, but dh got absolutely plastered yesterday (we're on hols). He threw up everywhere (which really was a test of my control over queasiness). I was pretty irritated at first, the lack of solidarity in not drinking, but I think he needed some kind of release. It seemed to dawn on him he's going to be a dad, and to two babies!

I think I'm also rocking a small bump now ( must be baby because I've hardly eaten). But need to hold out 4 more weeks before telling work. Not sure I'll pull it off.

Tonicandgin · 07/06/2015 13:12

Yes Mrs Chatty. Bump here! I have a tight vest on to try and keep it in check but failing miserably.

I was the same last time, I think it was worse then because I wore really tight clothes (I'd just got married and was really slim). Now, I'm a bit less toned so I wear looser clothes so slightly easier to hide. But I am going to have a big bump again I reckon.

Was fed up of being told how massive I was and how 'I'd never make it to term' (I did and was 8 days over in the end).

I need to be armed with some really cutting comments. It upset me a lot last time.

Joey0805 · 07/06/2015 13:12

So far the only time I've missed alcohol has been when I was offered a VERY nice glass of champagne at a work do. To be honest, I did actually have 2 sips and it was utter heaven! But otherwise because I've constantly felt a bit sick I haven't wanted it, even when DH has had it and sooo lucky that I've had no hens / weddings. My sisters hen is in a month but everyone will know by then as I'll be 14 or 15 weeks.

In 2nd trimester I'm going to be less strict and if I want a small glass of wine once or twice a week with a meal, I'll have it. Thank you Emily Oster! (From the book Expecting Better if you've not read it!). The thing I found HARD was giving up coffee, god weeks 4-7 were tough. I've come out the other end of that now and I don't even fancy decaf that much now.

I am so shocked at how rubbish my local care has been - I'll be over 10 weeks before I get my 1st midwife appt and this is my first pregnancy - I've no idea what's going on! And I've not been told if I get my scan date then or if they send it in the post after I've had the booking in appt. So happy most of you have your dates now and that this isn't commonly crap across the country.

Coffee - I have my bloods for Harmony on Friday and they scan me then too, fx for a growing olive!!!

kep1979 · 07/06/2015 13:57

joey I will be the same with alcohol as you in the second trimester. With my sons (born in 2004 & 2006) the advice was 1-2 units, 1-2 times per week. I know that has changed but not based on any research changing at all. I agree about not fancying it with feeling icky though.

Dh reckons I am starting with a bump - I am not convinced. I am les bloated than I was and have actually lost weight. I am usually a size 8 with a saggy mummy tummy so I reckon I will show v quickly, as I did with my second son. I also got HUGE and had people thinking I was term from 6 months! I need some comments too, it really peed me off

I was pondering earlier on when this little bean will arrive. My pfb was 3 weeks early due to low fluid (still weighed 9lb growth restricted my arse and my youngest was a week early (weighing 10lb). I'll have a c-section again so will be 39 weeks at latest, which'll be 9 Jan - so any issues and it'll be a new year baby. Fingers crossed I avoid the being in hospital between Christmas and New Year. Eeeek it is going to be an exciting time on this thread Grin

Lilliana · 07/06/2015 14:55

I don't drink much so not missing it, rare steak, soft cheese and prosciutto etc is another matter!!

I swing between feeling rough and then worrying that I'm not feeling rough! I really want to know how far on I am - what chance do you think I have of getting an nhs early scan? I'm worried the mw dates are behind mine and I'll be too far on for testing at my scan, especially as they didn't do DD until 13 weeks so not much chance for leeway.

Oysterbabe · 07/06/2015 15:05

Missing having a cold cider on this sunny afternoon and a nice strong coffee of a morning but most of time I don't care. I won't be touching a drop of alcohol. I wouldn't give a newborn booze so certainly won't be giving it to an unborn.

MissMartin10 · 07/06/2015 15:19

exactly my thinking! oysterbabe
luckly i can count on 1 hand how many times I've actually drank this year so i dont miss it

AlohaMama · 07/06/2015 16:06

Generally feeling too rough in the evenings to want wine, so don't miss it at all. Once I'm in the second trimester and feeling better I expect I'll be getting the blue Beck's in. Actually not too bad.

And yes to the bump, though its actually gone down a bit the last few days, which is good. As with you kep I have the mummy tummy, so I'm not exactly starting from a washboard stomach here. I've just ordered a pair of maternity jeans, they are supposed to be adaptable so you wear them under bump to start off then zip on an over bump band later on. If they are as good as they sound I might great myself to a second pair.

BeeMyBaby · 07/06/2015 16:27

Not missing alcohol either as I'm t-total, nor undercooked meat as I find meat pretty rank... Same with unpasteurised cheese... However I am missing paracetamol and perfume- before I had dd1 they had some bits in the news about perfume possibly affecting male baby hormones (in rats at least) during the first 12 weeks and DH recently told me something similar about paracetamol so I've abandoned both for at least the first trimester.

mrschatty · 07/06/2015 16:40

Whaaaaaat? Perfume? I've never heard this before...?? And I thought paracetamol was safe?
We're not going to have harmony testing etc- I'm 25 so recon quite low risk- however (touching wood) if anything came back in my nhs tests then I may change my mind

haquoi123 · 07/06/2015 16:59

joey, Emily Oster is pretty amazing! I don't agree with doing stuff out of fear, I think it's good to get all the facts. Bit harder this time around - it's hard to trust the baby will live after what happened to ds and I'm taking it a week at a time - but it's really good to have some facts and not a scaremongering midwife telling you not to swim just in case!

ValancyJane · 07/06/2015 19:31

Looking Try not to worry too much - I know it's easier said than done, and at least you've got your scan coming up. I'm just trying to keep a 'whatever will be will be and worrying won't change it' attitude, but I do still worry sometimes! Have relaxed a bit this last week, and keep thinking I should be worrying more, which is stupid.

I'm not really missing wine anymore - I was soooo much until 6 weeks, but I've had nausea on and off this past week so really haven't fancied it. This is the longest I've gone without drinking since I was 16 (which is quite bad!)

Wynsey · 07/06/2015 19:58

Moonshine - I'm in Bishopbriggs. I'm not sure if it's just Glasgow or Scotland. When I googled it - it had different numbers for which area you were in. I don't think I was ready to hear my scan date so quickly. But super excited!!!
It's so good to hear that everyone has those negative thoughts that bad things might happen. It makes me feel normal but I'm being very positive!! Grin

I got the Mixed Fruit Kopperberg from Morrisons. They also had Cloudy Lemonade Fosters beer and Becks beer. All without alcohol.
I had a Pear Kopperberg in a Wetherspoons in Glasgow. It would be nice to have in a nice beer garden!!! Think we'd need to move to England to get some nice warm weather though lol xx

CubanoHabana · 07/06/2015 20:18

Looking I thought I was 9 plus 3 based on lmp and midwife but actually working on when I know I had morning after pill, 8 plus 5 was exact date... Suppose we will find out more officially at 12 week scan (which will now be at 11 weeks).

Blimeygirl · 07/06/2015 20:36

I've been having a few becks blues to curb that urge on a Friday evening for a drink and it really does work! I'm normally quite a big drinker so tbh it's been a bit of a shock to the system! It's good for me I know but hard to get my brain to catch up!

Oysterbabe · 07/06/2015 21:09

DH bought me some caffeine free diet coke. It tastes a bit lacking but it'll do. I've got Tetley caffeine free tea and that's actually really nice, I can almost pretend it's normal tea.

ValancyJane · 07/06/2015 21:25

For any other tea lovers, the Earl Grey decaf version is nice, and Redbush is caffeine free and yummy. I'm currently living on a combination of those and peppermint!

OTheHugeManatee · 07/06/2015 21:52

I'm a massive Emily Oster fan too. I find a lot of the way pregnancy 'risks' are discussed quite infantilising and was delighted to find more detailed info in her book than you get in official guidelines.

TeenieDeenie · 07/06/2015 22:04

Oyster I didn't know you could get caffeine free diet coke (makes not to stock up on that asap) thanks for the tip! Totally agree about the tetley decaf being quite nice, I allow myself one cup of normal tea first thing in the morning then switch to decaf for the rest of the day.

Tee total pregnancy for me, it's only 9 months... I haven't fancied a drink yet anyway so hopefully that continues and it remains this easy. Might not be saying that come Christmas and New Year though!!!
