To all the people worried about having blood drawn, I wish I could make it better for you! I used to be very needle phobic, but I decided I wanted to get over this phobia before having kids, since needles seem to be an inevitable part of that. This probably isn't a lot of use to you at this stage, but I'll share it anyway.
I got over my phobia by giving blood. I figured, it's something you do for good reasons so you get to feel good about it, and if I really want them to stop, they will and no harm done. I've given blood about 15 times now, and I still don't look when they insert the actual needle (why on earth would you want to!?), but I don't freak out about it anymore. I concentrate on the scratch just to reassure myself that that's all it is. Once the needle is in, it shouldn't hurt.
I found thinking about the reasons for doing it very helpful in keeping me calm. It used to be, 'I'm giving blood and saving a life.' Now it will be, 'I'm keeping my baby safe.' Keep reminding yourself, you can survive a scratch, the fear is in your head, so fill your head with something positive. I guess that's still applicable even if you can't 'practice' by giving blood like I did. I hope that is helpful to someone out there.
