Thought I'd start a new thread as the other one's about to run out.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Muppet, am sitting here with tears in my eyes. Finding it very hard to concentrate on work now as I keep on thinking of your cat in pain on the road, even though I don't know what he looks like.

harktheheraldfoxessing · 06/12/2006 21:07

Evenhope - I didn't realise you'd had four kids! What are their ages now? (spot the one who's too lazy to check stats hread)

Cllie - I had the epi for the second birth - was all set to go ahead for another active birth but my waters burst and DD didn't appear. Luckily I went into labour eventually anyway, so the induction just speeded things up a bit. Epi was fab though and my anaesheatist (sp) was also an actupuncturist!!

I like Adoni too, not sure how to pronounce it, whether its "adonny" or "a-done-ee". The later maybe? Will have to ask DH. I asked what he thought of Mont and he said "Monty Python"!

Argos do a nice arts package called "Awesome Arts" its a Barbie one, AKA 12 dancing princesses activity chest. Would be nice for a 4 year old girl maybe if she likes Barbie too (£9.99). Its a chest of drawers packed with stuff and on the Barbie pages of the catalogue (p1585)

I'm feeling a lot better now - the anti biotics kicked in exactly 48 hours after I started them

muppet I'm so sorry about your cat
We've lost 4 cats to road deaths
Our older cat Charlie got run over and a neighbour brought him up to us, like your Alfie he wasn't moving his back legs and was looking pretty bad.
He went on drip and for surgery, we agreed money wise that we would go so far and no further - I was pregnant with hyperemesis at the time as well.
chrlie had his tail removed and thankfully spinal compression once lifted made him ok, he had broken pelvis and bruised internally.
4 days in hospital, 3 weeks of caged care at home.
Total cost was £485 - ouch
We had decided had his quality of life been compromised then we'd let him go, but he was ok.
He did get run over 3 years later though Gutting.
Hope you're ok, it's horrible truly horrible

divastrop · 06/12/2006 21:24

muppet-x posts.i really hope your cat will be ok.do they not have night staff at the vets if they have sick animals staying there?

fox-i think the name goes quite well with Gloria cos thats quite old-fashioned as well.

MossletoeAndWine · 06/12/2006 21:29

Muppet that is an awful decision to have to make, when you have to weigh up the costs. I know I have had to make it once many moons ago, I really know what a horrible thing it is to have to even think of. I get so incredibly angry about these dickheads who speed along at ten to the dozen and don't think about the consequences. Poor Alfie and poor you, having to go through this and you being pg as well.

Callieco is there a children's book on drawing anywhere, something by Rolf Harris or someone like that? Could be a goer?

Evenhope, that is interesting, when you say it is a different pain, have had a few people say that now, that it's a "natural" pain. Foxy will be raising the idea of birth plans at next mw appointment, really need some kind of advice, having never done it before... not sure there are lava lamps at the women's though but they do have a birth pool, could be useful?

Callieco how come you're working so late??

Once again Muppet, I really hope everything is all right, and if you have to decide to go the other way, at least you know he will be out of pain. Can't stop crying now, really wish you and Alfie all the best. I really hope he is okay and it doesn't cost a fortune to make him better.

Rosydingdongmerrily · 06/12/2006 21:33

Diva- Elsie is lovely your poor dd being sick on her birthday. Ds had a great day. He got lots of boys toys which fills a gap...he's always playing with dollys. dd was really good and hid any jealousy she might have felt. She has the tummy bug now though, all coming out the bottom end though.

Fox- Monty Python makes me like Monti as a name even more!

Muppet, your cat will probably want to be alone and in peace while feeling so ill. He'll probably just sleep loads. I hope he will be ok.

Piffle, very cute christmas name!

awayinamuppet · 07/12/2006 10:26

Thanks for all your kind messages - just got off phone to vet - he's still hanging in there!

Amazingly the bladder has sealed itself! Apparantly that can happen??? And internally he looked alright on the scan. He is now stable enough for anaesthetic to xray him. He is not moving back legs properly and his tail is lifeless - sounds terribly similar to what you wrote last night piffle. I will know more at lunch time when the vet phones again...

Keeping fingers crossed til then.

Hope whoever hit him is feeling guilty because they must have known they'd hit him - plus there's hardly any houses along our road so it wouldn't have taken much to stop and knock on the odd door.. oh well...

26+5 (boy)

AmieR · 07/12/2006 10:37

Hope the lunchtime news on Alfie is good Muppet.

Was grandad's funeral yesterday, and it was lovely, standing room only in the church for the "celebration of his life" in the afternoon.. it said a lot about how all the villagers felt about him. Was lovely.

Midwife appointment this afternoon, blood tests and all that I believe. Always makes me giggle when having blood taken, which isn't for the best when you got needle stuck in your arm!

MS is still hanging in there. It was driving me nuts this morning, I really needed to leave the house on time, and had to keep "rushing" (as quickly as a 7 month pregnant lady can" upstairs to wretch into the toilet. Any one know of any good vomiting positions as I was worried about the slight strain on my belly region.

EDD 1/3
Surprise - though I feel its a Pink one!
28 weeks!

MossletoeAndWine · 07/12/2006 11:15

Muppet I am keeping everything crossed for you and for Alfie. Let us know how it goes at dinner time.

AmieR your Grandad's funeral sounds lovely (in as much as a funeral can be, iyswim). Sorry to hear you are still feeling sick though! Have you tried ginger? (I am joking of course I am sure you have tried everything; I got sick of hearing that after just three months so I can only imagine how you feel!)

Piffle your Christmas name is lovely! So here it is, MerryPiffmas everybody's having fun...

MerryPiffmas · 07/12/2006 11:47

Muppet so pleased Alfie is doing ok, hope the xray shows he can fixed - it took our Charlie a while to get used to jumping without his tail, but he did get there.

AmieR Grim you're still being sick
I had that with dd too. Hope it's not affecting you too much otherwise.

Golly my baby is SO active
He also feels very firm and this morning in bed I could feel feet under my belly button, so I tickled and got a great flurry of kicking.
Was fabulous!

AmieR · 07/12/2006 11:58

Piffle that sounds fun! My bump still is playing DH up, much to my amusement but we're having plenty of fun esp in the bath. LO seems to like that.

The MS went away for a good few months, but then about 2 weeks ago came back... hope its just a short term bout.

harktheheraldfoxessing · 07/12/2006 12:39

Hi everyone, just popped in for a quickie as I'm catching up at work and to say I hope Alfie pulls through - he sounds as though he's really fighting to hang on in there, poor might.

Huge cyber hug to Muppet

awayinamuppet · 07/12/2006 13:32

Just got off phone to vet again - have got Alfie best case scenario and Alfie worst case scenario...

Best case - well, looks like his tails got to come off completely - the wheel must have run over it right at the top - the x-rays showed it's completely mashed up.

Worst case - if the spinal nerves are really damaged and he can't become continent again then we'll have an incontinent cat. Really can't see that being a goer...

We'll know more tomorrow - the xrays are going to the orthopaedic specialist and they can tell us what they think... in the meantime the best thing would be if he suddenly regained control of his bowel and bladder himself - then we'd know for sure...

Thanks again to you all for your comforting words - I know it sounds a bit melodramatic to keep harping on about a bloody cat but he's such a sweetie I'd be gutted if we lost him. If I knew how to post a piccie of him I would as I've got loads on my computer... maybe I'll investigate...

Hope you lot are all doing ok - Amie your grandad's funeral sounded quite uplifting (if funerals can be that?)

MossletoeAndWine · 07/12/2006 14:16

Muppet it doesn't sound melodramatic at all (although I'm sure my relationship with the pets will change a little after Bertie comes along).

I hope he's okay and you just end up with a little manx cat lookalike - keep us posted!

awayinamuppet · 07/12/2006 14:21

have a look at alfie here \link{http://uk.msnusers.com/animalcat

awayinamuppet · 07/12/2006 14:24

will this work?
alfie

awayinamuppet · 07/12/2006 14:25

Yay it worked! Not very good at this but his photo appears in bottom right if you scroll down on the page you re-direct to...

MossletoeAndWine · 07/12/2006 14:44

Muppet he is the cutest little fuzzball! How old is he?

Rosydingdongmerrily · 07/12/2006 15:56

Keeping everything crossed for Alfie, (and he's a gorgeous cat.)

harktheheraldfoxessing · 07/12/2006 16:21

He's really sweet isn't he. Looks quite young!

awayinamuppet · 07/12/2006 16:24

Yes, that's quite an old photo - he is actually 2 and a half now and I took that when he was probably 6 months - he's lost none of his cuteness.

MerryPiffmas · 07/12/2006 16:28

oh muppet he is gorgeous.
Sounds like very similar to Charlie
Thing was he had so many drugs in the first 24 hrs he appeared incontintent for 24 hrs after coming off sedation.
in the end weighing the cost up we chose surgery and then said we would be guided by his recovery afterwards
Like you incontinence and mobility were no goers (in a cat who was virtually an outside cat)
I do hope you get good news about him

Amie the funeral sounded really lovely, sometimes I find going to funerals for the elderly are lovely affairs, lots of kind people telling you all kinds of mad tales.
xxxxxxx

harktheheraldfoxessing · 07/12/2006 16:31

Hey guess what!

We deliver English Language classes to local residents and as part of their course we sent them to Harrods in a mini bus to practise shopping in an English shop.

They got caught in the tornado at Kensal Green!!!!!

..and I bet they thought it would be safe living in England!

MossletoeAndWine · 07/12/2006 16:38

Tornado? What? What's going on?

evenhope · 07/12/2006 17:06

Oh muppet what a beautiful cat. I hope he pulls through. We had a similar scenario with our cat Cassie many years ago. We got the worst case scenario though- they amputated her tail but her back end was too mashed up and they had to let her go. The vet fought really hard for her because they said she didn't stop purring the whole time she was there. We've lost loads of cats to being run over. Luckily the 4 we have now seem to have picked up some road sense and have made it to a reasonable age (except one ran out to meet us as I parked the other night and some idiot flying round the corner only just stopped in time- if I'd got out of the car in time I'd have had words with her- next time it could be a small child).

Fox my gang are 20, 19, 17 and 15. DD will turn 21 just before her sister arrives- hence the negative response!
