Thought I'd start a new thread as the other one's about to run out.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
AmieR · 06/12/2006 10:09

Lunar - wow.. I saw mine for booking in, 24 weeks, I see her tomorrow for 28 weeks and then after this every 2 weeks! so strange how things differ, even as we're so local!

morocco · 06/12/2006 11:13

hello everyone, how's the xmas shoppingn going? I went in on Sat and it was a nightmare. I feel so clumsy and big now with this bump getting in the way I can't stand all the crowds. Back to the internet for me
lunar - I don't want to sound too pushy and bossy but I really think you should push for a lot better mw care than that. make them see you more. I don't know my exact schedule but it goes to fortnightly soon then weekly then daily or alt day at the end and that's the recommended nationwide schedule (so my mw told me.) Mostly I'm not bothered about going in the 2nd trimester but I think it gets more important towards the end. I don't want to upset people with scare stories but someone I know lost her baby at term last year because the placenta had started failing. She had crap monitoring towards the end and it should have been picked up on earlier in mw checks (so she feels anyway).

fox - hope you're on the emdn - sounds like you're enjoying yourself anyway with the cava

evenhope - did you get to change the date on the mat form then? hope hr cooperate with the mat leave. silvercross sounds lovely

diva - happy birthday to your dd

rainbow - sorry you're feeling down. do as little as pos and don't expect too much from yourself. also ask for help and play helpless as much as pos - get the shop people to help pack bags, carry stuff to the door etc. I know most people are dead miserable about helping pregnant women out these days but if you ask, you might be surprised how helpful some people would be.

rosy - how's your dh doing?

I phoned a friend yesterday and she's got a freedom sling she can lend me - her dd hated it so hope my dd likes it more. I'm really pleased cos it saves a bit of money on something I wasn't sure about. karma for sure. I gave away all my baby stuff too and people are being so generous this time round. I thought they'd think we had everything but stuff is being dragged out of attics all over the northwest

Rosydingdongmerrily · 06/12/2006 11:45

Morocco that's awful about your friend. It does make you think that every check up is important.

Dh is here annoying me, making a mess, upsetting all our routines and being rude about my mother so nothing new there he has a check up tomorrow. Hopefully its just wind.

Piffle · 06/12/2006 11:52

lunar very odd
I'm on the less visit schedule since I've already had one child
At was 8 wks, 12 wks, 16 wks, 20wks 25 wks, 28 wks (for bloods)32 wks 34 wks, then weekly.
And that's a shortcourse

Piffle · 06/12/2006 11:57

oooh names for a boy we have Finn which we both love
Dp also likes Thadius (Thady) as old irish family name from many moons - I said he will get called Thady the lady, so maybe not. I'm not that keen I must say.
For girls, well for the sake of our relationship best it not be a girl
I like Roseanna, Maisie, Mabel, Caitlin, Ciara (Keira) (dp is Kieran)and lots of other floral type names.
Dp likes Nora after his lovely late Granny
I do like Nora, but feel you have be a certain character to pull it off IYSWIM

harktheheraldfoxessing · 06/12/2006 12:21

Hi everyone

Piff I love those names. Finn (or Finnbar) is one of my faves for boys anyway

Rosy - I thought of Monty Don too. Monti is quite a cool name me thinks and would be OK for baby, boy/teenager and grown up man.

Moss - I have the same dilemna about epi vs birth centre. Have the epi and a crappy room or stay in the birthing pool with the disco lights and stave off the epi? LOL

Morocco - I can't even "do" shoping centes atm. Its either internet shopping or a quick nip to the shops during my lunch reak at work. Just the thought of Christmas shopping makes me go weak at the knees!!

Lunar - I ate ante -aal appointments. Imea I understand the need for tem, but just hate waiting round in GPs/hospitals.

I wonder how one would know if the placenta was failing?

Anyone know what the signs are??

MossletoeAndWine · 06/12/2006 12:41

Afternoon all,

Lunar those checkups do seem a little few & far between, but I'm not really qualified to comment as I didn't realise I was supposed to be seeing a local mw at all until about three weeks after I was meant to book an appointment!!

Morocco I haven't done any xmas shopping yet whatsoever. Where in the NW are you btw? (apologies if you've already said it I think my brain is addled atm!)

Piffle I think Finn is a lovely name!! I like the girls ones too especially Mabel.

Foxy you've the same dilemma as me then what shall we do? I was reading a thread a while back as to whether labour was possible without pain relief and I think the general consensus was yes, sort of, but it really effing hurts!! What to do???

I am trying to start up a cricket conversation in the office but no one is interested they're all footy people. Have been emailing dh but have started a thread here if anyone is bothered! Other than that I'm just going to have to rely on dp!

TheBlonde · 06/12/2006 12:48

Hi all, apologies as I've not attempted to catch up on all the goings on. Hope everyone is on

Re MW schedule..
I am on low risk so it's... 26 /30 / 34 / 36 / 38 /40 /41 wks

LunarSeasonsGreetings · 06/12/2006 13:32

My schedule is 24 weeks (1st one since booking)/ 28/ 32/ 36/ 40/ 41. Will definately ask them to confirm that's correct though. Suspect it is though, as the local NHS is so short of funds that they've probably cut back on it.

Have done most of my shopping - need to go through it all and work out what I've missed though. ds has a birthday party for 2 hours at a venue right next to our big local supermarket on Saturday, so I'll probably take advantage of that to get the food things (other than the fresh stuff) in.

leogaela · 06/12/2006 13:45

OK, I'm going to post before I read and then post again just in case i run out of time reading !

Had a glucose tolerance test today because of glucose in my pee. Seems everything is OK.
Had some strong contractions last night (which subsided after a bath) so got them to check me out while I was at the hospital. Everything is fine, I got lectured about not getting stressed and the doctor tried ot persuade me to go off work 100% today! The best was that I had another scan and I could see very clearly one of the twins faces !!!!

Someone gave us a German book of names, I've found some great ones that I would like to run by you all !

Agilulf - boy
Baldegund - boy
Curd/Curdin - boy
Dolf - boy
Everhard - boy
Wanko - boy

The girls names seem to be marginally better!

MossletoeAndWine · 06/12/2006 13:58

Leogaela, were they those braxton hicks thingies? What do they feel like? Glad you are okay!

I have to wonder at Everhard and Wanko!

leogaela · 06/12/2006 14:26

Happy Birthday ot Diva's dd and Rosy's ds!

Rainbow, I also can't cope with shopping, its not the same as i like to choose my own fruit and veg, but we do loads of it online now. It helps a lot and means I can invest the saved energy into something more productive. You are doing great. Some days I feel like you do as well but my situation is easy so i think you are coping incredibly well. Don't know what to suggest about your dp, it sounds as if he is keeping you hanging on a bit of an emotional string. If he isn't prepared tobe there for you (or give you a definitive answer to whether on not he wants tobe) maybe you should consider barring his emails and cutting him off completely. It could give you some peace of mind and sanity back.

Laidback, lovely to hear about your friends twins. 6lb each is a lot of baby ! Well done to the mum for that !

Fox, I don't have experience of accupuncture for pp, but am a great believer in it.. its worth a try. how is hte bronchitis? hope you are feeling better.

I don't think we are going to buy anything until january. And then will buy very little. Its too easy to buy loads of stuff that you just don't need.

As for being fed up with being pregnant, its such a drag i don't like being pregnant, I hate the changes to my body but I am really careful for what i wish for because of the risk of premature twin births. my bf baby was born a week ago last sunday and ended up a week in scbu (not early born but birth complications), it was really heartbreaking and if possible i want to avoid bieng in that situation with the twins.

leogaela · 06/12/2006 14:29

Moss, i'm not sure. i think bhs are only supposed to come every hour, but these were coming every 10 - 15 mins. not painful and my cervix hasn't opened or shortened. Today i just have the normal bhs again.

harktheheraldfoxessing · 06/12/2006 18:45

Leo is your friends baby OK now ??

Moss - what to do, eh? At Queen Charlotte's they let you stay in the lovely birthing room (cpmplete with lava lamps ) if you give birth there and there's a spare bed for partners too. So there is a big incentive to battle through without an epidural. I think if I have a doula with me she's help me be strong enough to do it without the epi. I did it with Ds so can do it again.

...on the other hand I had an epi with DD (was induced, but had gone into labour anyway) and the birth was soooo easy!! I felt great after.

Problem is that you just can't predict what's going to happen on the day. I'd never imagined being induced with DD but it all turned out well. On the other hand, I had these ideals of a naural birth for DS and was so knackered afterwards.

Part of me says "do it naturally, like thousands of woman before you have and stay in the lovely birthing room", the other half says "well, you wouldn't have a tooth out without anaesthetic".

I suspect you have the same dilemna, or a very similar one.

One thing I have learnt though, is a midwife led unit is far better than consultant led, as your less likely to be bullied, so the birthing cetre can provide that part; as well as a whole range of birthing pools and apparatus to help you manage the pain.

It'll be ineresting to see how all our births pan out won't it?

not sure about Wanko for a name PMSL!

morocco · 06/12/2006 18:59

loved those names - everhard sounds fab! he'd never be short of a girlfriend!
are you guys going to write out a birthplan? at the back of my notes there's a page where you answer a few qs that they call a birthplan but it doesn't cover loads of stuff. I can't decide whether they're trying to tell everyone not to bother writing more or trying to seem understanding. last time went pretty well but I remember being at home and having a moment of complete clarity and thinking 'b*er this, I'm off to hospital for an epi' (I'm Mrs 'Natural'). When I got there they said I was doing really well, which I found frankly hard to believe, and didn't need one. Things kind of settled down after that and by the end I was off my head anyway on natural endorphins which I swear drove me completely nutty. did I tell you all already that my first thoughts when ds2 was born were 'oh look it's a baby' pmsl now!! luckily I don't think I said it aloud or dh would never have stopped telling everyone. my ohter major contribution to the conversation was telling dh mid contraction when he quoted some thing about every contraction bringing me closer to the birth 'never ever speak to me ever again' except with expletives after every word. dh was quite insulted!
ah the joys of birth stories!

Rosydingdongmerrily · 06/12/2006 19:51

My first labour I called the mw a silly cow, I have no recollection of that...I would never say such a thing to someone

With ds2 I had put on the birth plan to have the baby delivered onto my chest, when it happened I thought eugh what are they doing, its all slimey...oh yeah how lovely

awayinamuppet · 06/12/2006 20:07

Why do stressful things always happen at once?
Just got off the phone to dh who has thankfully got through 3 lanes of speeding motorway traffic after a tyre blew! No harm - but expensive days ahead to fix car...

Turned around and the cat had crawled through the catflap - couldn't walk - blood everywhere. Had to fall through ten tonnes of crap in the darkest garage known to man to find cat basket and then manage a wailing cat & 2 panicking kids to the vets.

Left Alfie there... vet dubious as to whether he'll make it through the night...

Anyone for a large G & T?

26+4(boy)

MossletoeAndWine · 06/12/2006 20:17

Oh muppet I'm so sorry about your cat!!! I hope Alfie is all right, did they manage to find what had happened? Oh I would be utterly inconsolable if anything happened to our Ziggy so I really hope he is okay

Foxy my dilemma you're right it's very similar, except I've never done it before either way so I have no idea whether or not I can cope with it. Just asked dh what his thoughts were he was very and a bit as I am the kind of person who will take paracetamol & ibuprofen and spend the day in bed with a hot water bottle for just period pain!

Muppet I really hope your poor cat is all right. It is so horrible when you have to leave your pet in the vet overnight without knowing what's going to happen, have had to do it before myself, know what it's like. Most recently one of our dogs was savaged in the park, had to have emergency treatment and be left overnight, he was all right in the end though so maybe your cat will be too?

divastrop · 06/12/2006 20:18

hello ladies.

poor little dd2 has been throwing up most of the day when she wasnt asleep.she liked her pressies and that though.my mum sent vouchers for me to get her something and i got her a garage cos shes obsessed with cars and keeps playing with ds2's.anyway,she loves the garage but my mother was not impressed when i told her .ds2 loved dolls when he was that age and i got him a baby doll for his first birthday.women drive cars and men look after babies, whats the problem?!

fox-i would say go with the lava lamps!the birth of my 3rd child was so easy compared to the first two, honestly!epidurals arent available for normal deliveries up here anyway,so ive never experienced one,but i would sooo love to watch lava lamps whilst breathing g+a

morroco-thats awful about your friends baby.it just shouldnt happen in this day and age.
i think reduced fetal movements are a sign the placenta could be failing?i remember reading about it when expecting dd2.

leo-is your freind's baby ok?its scary having a not well little baby,i hope everything will be alright.

names....this lo is going to be called elsie after dp's gran.i spent so long thinking i was having a boy and we just couldnt think of any names, then after the 20 week scan dp just said'if its really a girl, can we name her after my gran?' so i said,'yes, fine, sorted'.

if it turns out there was a willy there after all ,i dont know what we're going to do.everhard?

26 weeks(girl)

awayinamuppet · 06/12/2006 20:24

moss - it looked like the bladder had burst as the blood was coming out with urine (sorry is tmi) plus his tail and back legs weren't working...

they are just going to put a drip in him and try to stabilise him overnight and if he's strong enough in morning they'll scan him and see what internal stuff is going on...

it's awful but if the bill is too huge i'm going to have to get him put down - she mentioned it could reach the thousands. Stupidly I have our dog insured but have never insured the cat as he never does anything - I'm astounded he even knew what the end of our drive looked like let alone ventured onto the road...

OCalliecomeallyefaithful · 06/12/2006 20:38

Oh muppet, my god, your poor poor cat. What happened to him, do you know or can you work it out?

(I realise people might think my priorities are a little off-beam - obviously glad your dh was not hurt in tyre blowout...!)

As he wasn't, back to the cat - I would be utterly distraught if it was mine. Really hope he pulls through. I think a large G&T is mandatory in this situation. Let us know how he gets on - got everything crossed for Alfie.

Those names are hilarious Leo. A colleague had to ask me what was wrong cos I laughed so (ever) hard.

Piffle, Finn is a lovely name. Also like Caitlin and Maisie for a girlie.

Foxy, I think Adoni is interesting - where are the stresses in it, do you know? I was also interested that you had a good experience with an epi for your first but chose not to have one for the second - any reason?

Mossy - glad I'm not the only one who's failed to start Chrimbo shopping. On that subject, I've got a four-year-old niece who really likes drawing and I want to get her something arty related but not just crayons/paint and things as she's already got those, although if they came as part of a package it would be ok - any suggestions?

Still got 1.5 hours left in work. Tomorrow is our Christmas do in the evening. Last year, we had it on a Thursday too and there was cover arranged for the people who are supposed to work into the evening and they could go at six to get ready and then go out for drinks before the food. This year my boss didn't get anything organised so has said the two people working late - ie six-month-pregnant ME and another - "can leave at 8.30" - the meal is booked for 8! Thanks a sodding lot and Merry effing Christmas to you too.

evenhope · 06/12/2006 20:46

muppet- sorry to hear about your cat. Any idea what happened? Hope he's OK.

mossletoe- I am one of those people who has to have the topical anaesthetic at the dentist before he can put an injection into my gums and I almost pass out every time they take blood. But I've had 4 babies with gas & air (& the first delivery was a nightmare). It's a different sort of pain. But you won't know how you are going to cope until it starts so it's best to have an open mind. You may want all the drugs going or you may prefer to manage without. I think gas and air should be sold in the shops- magical stuff!!

fox- I was a lot younger when I climbed the Tor at 37 weeks- 17 years to be precise Now I can't walk 10 minutes into town. At this rate I'll be housebound by 37 weeks!

morocco- the midwife put down 1st April on the MatB1. She said it made no difference to her, and going by my LMP date I'm only 10 days out. As one of mine was 11 days late there's every possibility we could go into April anyway. I rang HR and they said they haven't had the new instructions yet. I work for the govt dept that is sending out these instructions to other employers and it's all over our website!!!!!

Anglaise- I will bear in mind about the iron. Last time my blood was tested it was really high but I haven't seen the mw for 4 weeks and it's another 2 weeks till the next appt. If it gets worse I might ring her.

OCalliecomeallyefaithful · 06/12/2006 20:47

oops, x-post on what happened to Alfie.

harktheheraldfoxessing · 06/12/2006 20:52

Moss - it might be worth some of us swapping notes on our birth plans nearer the dates, if anyone is up for it, to steal good ideas etc. If I get my doula I'm sure she's have some good ideas I can share and vice versa, sure I can learn some new things from others.

Muppet - your poor cat, that's so sad. Sounds like he got hit by a car doesn't it? Poor little thing.

Diva - Love the name Elsie, its fab! It sounds like a name from the 1940's but realy cool at the same time. Make sure she sings so she can front a blues band or something with a cool name like that.

Rosy and Morocco - PMSL at your birth stories. I read the newspapers throgh my indced epi- labour with DD, so did DH!!That 4.5 hours was the longest we'd spent together alone since DS was born so we quite enjoyed it - reading the papers and chatting happily

With DS I was high as a kite on gas and air and doing all my active birth movements, moans and grunts included I'd learnt at yoga. After the gas and air first hit, I apparently said to the MW "hey...this stuffs realy good. Hey, this must be what Telly Tubbies are on"

awayinamuppet · 06/12/2006 20:53

Realise I never said he must have been hit by car. All his feet were scuffed up which is apparantly a sign of being dragged by tyres.

Keep thinking of him on his own at surgery as the vets don't obviously live there... he's such a sweet little lap cat I'd be gutted if he doesn't make it cos he's the friendliest little cat we've had...
