That's what I think too Guybrush so hoping for some proper facts and figures on the course or from the consultant to help me decide soon

BowiesJumper · 19/05/2015 17:23

My 16wk appointment was a bit of an anticlimax! Just tested my pee and my bp and told me my risk numbers from the downs test (which I'd already been told was low) which was 1:100,000. Oh and I'm not immune to measles apparently, even though I had them as a kid AND had the MMR when I was about 14. Oh well!

I asked about the heartbeat but she said they didn't usually as people worried if they couldn't find it, but she could try if I liked... We decided against it because she's right, we WOULD worry if she hadn't been able to find it.

stace1986 · 19/05/2015 17:39

Abbey that sounds awful! My understanding is that its your body your birth etc and midwives can advise you but the choice is yours on how you deliver your baby (unless medical reason for cs or vbac) stick to your guns so to speak! I have a bleeding disorder and my midwife was pretty clueless and actually thought I had the opposite problem to the one I do have and had no idea how that affects me giving birth so I will be waiting until I see the consultant now before making any decisions!

annatha · 19/05/2015 17:49

Ladies, these preggo vitamins are from the pound shop and aside from pantothenic acid they contain exactly the same stuff as pregnacare. New midwife thought I was daft taking aspirin, vitamin d and a higher dose of folic acid even though old midwife prescribed them. She's taken me off aspirin and said to take standard pregnancy multivitamins.

Also, she said that because of my high bmi I'll need to self inject something after the birth to ward off blood clots, and if I get admitted to hospital at all during my pg I'll be put on the injections early. The old midwife put me on aspirin to lower my risk of blood clots, so surely it makes sense for me to keep taking it? Gahh. Having a baby in one county should be the same as any other.

PS ignore dd's foot haha! She'll only sit in the high chair these days.

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 19/05/2015 18:16

I had blood clot injections too annatha although I think that was something to do with having a c section. They were ok, just that DH was so nervous doing them, I think I'll do it myself this time!

cupcakesam84 · 19/05/2015 19:04

Evening all, not posted for a bit! Just been catching up on all your posts! AbbeyRoad, that's really bad that they treated you like that! Arse holes !!! I've got my 16 wk soon, I have no idea what to expect, although I've just read someone say about the heart beat, that's a tricky one, on 1 hand I'd love to hear it but in the other, if they can't find it, that would be a worry!! Oohhh I don't know!! Craving citrus this weekGrin x

annatha · 19/05/2015 19:22

I'm counting on my dh to do them, I don't think I'd manage to do it myself.

TakesTwoToTango · 19/05/2015 19:41

I ended up doing mine myself (was worse to let DH do it!).

GoEasyJulia · 19/05/2015 19:44

Exciting takestwo can't wait to feel movement Smile

Just to add to the tales of bonding; when I was pregnant with my DS I always got the feeling that I was having a girl. I had no preference whatsoever (and we didn't find out) but if I ever dreamt about the baby it was always a girl, and I began to picture a girl in my head.

So when DS was born I was delighted but suprised. And then in the crazy, hormonal, sleep deprived first days/weeks of new motherhood I sometimes forgot that he was a boy Confused

It was weird and funny at the same time Grin It didn't stop me bonding with him, I suppose the point I'm trying to make is that the first few weeks are so strange and new that it's ok to feel a bit detached from reality.

This time I've had one baby dream so far and it was a girl. So
I'm probably carrying a boy!

GoEasyJulia · 19/05/2015 19:51

Also I just realised that the only info I gave when I joined the thread was my due date, so to add to that I am 31 and this will be DC2, I have a 2.5 year old DS already.

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 19/05/2015 20:37

I have been thinking this one is a girl, not that I have any idea really, but just because the pregnancy is so different. But seeing as people act like having two boys is the worst thing ever in the world ever to happen I've now changed my mind and am thinking boy - rooting for the underdog!
I genuinely don't mind, I love surprises.

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 19/05/2015 20:40

I've also been researching spa breaks this evening. Having DS with nothing ready I was always a bit envious of others with their leaving presentations at work, relaxing on mat leave before baby etc so I'm determined to have some of that this time. Silly I know as of course all that doesn't matter really but I have spa break issues!

annatha · 19/05/2015 21:34

abbeyroad do it! Bear in mind that some spas may have restrictions on pregnant women though so might be best going sooner rather than later. We had access to a spa at work and I used to go up until about 30 weeks, just being careful to avoid hot steam rooms etc. The jacuzzi jets were amazing on my sore back.

I want to do something nice before this baby arrives. We have no family or friends nearby so the only person to look after dd is dh, and I doubt he'll take both babies on his own so I want some me time while I still can!

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 19/05/2015 21:39

I've found a local one that does a pregnancy day which looks good, but expensive. I'll do it sooner rather than later for sure as thats a lesson learnt from last time Smile

roughtyping · 19/05/2015 21:50

Ooh I've been looking at spa breaks now. I'll be going to one in the summer for my friend's hen, but will prob get a manicure I imagine? Really want to get a proper pregnant lady one..!

TakesTwoToTango · 19/05/2015 22:03

oooh spas.......

ehealy · 19/05/2015 22:22

Hi all I've been quiet as working full on. Absolutely flattened with exhaustion. Not enormously stressed because tired. Baby Brain has kicked in already keep leaving my phone everywhere and doing daft things like queuing for 30 mins at returns in M&S to get to till and realised no wallet! Also booked an antenatal yoga class to turn up where I thought it was and actually was 15 min walk away. I feel a bit mental. Off to bed up at 5.30!

SnozzberryPie · 19/05/2015 23:14

Abbey, based on purely anecdotal evidence, my order of preference would be:

  1. Totally natural vaginal birth
  2. C section
  3. Vaginal birth with lots of intervention

Since you never know whether you will get 1 or 3, I'd think of a vaginal birth as a gamble and a c section as the safe middle option.

I want a spa break too!

Poppyninja · 19/05/2015 23:54

Thanks annatha yes was me. That's good to know. DH doesn't know his blood type but is going to find out, worth knowing I reckon.

tootsroots super jealous! Enjoy Bali, I adored the places off the beaten track and Lombok was stunning x

Focusfocus · 20/05/2015 05:06

I am staying overnight at Uni town as have tons of student meetings and interviews to conduct, so went for an authentic Chinese with a colleague for dinner. Authentic Chinese as in not your run of the mill chowmein Chinese but rather the real mainland china stuff.

Have been lying awake since 3 am salivating over the memories and checking my diary for today to see if I can squeeze in a return visit. There's a space between 2-4 pm and I can maybe get some to bring back and keep in my office fridge to take back to home town by train for dinner. I have even put it in my diary as an appointment.

Can you tell I am pregnant crazy?

In other news has anyone else started feeling a bit funny if lying straight flat on your back? I know you're not supposed to but it used to be my fave position and now I need to put my feet up to be comfy that way, otherwise I can feel stuff shifting around palpably in my bump region if I lie flat out that is.

I could weep this morning Sad sent home sick from work yesterday, I have to be in today as we have a trip and then after school we have parent meetings from 3-9. I've been awake since 4 not able to sleep, stressing because I'm still not 100% I can feel the baby move, just feeling really down. So upset. DH has been lovely, woke up because I was wriggling so much, rubbed my back and my head to try to get me to sleep, think I managed about 20 minutes more. He's making me eggs just now. Feel so upset! Will be fine in a bit but what a rubbish start to the day Envy

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 20/05/2015 07:56

Snozzberry that's my thinking too. If I go for VBAC it's an emcs at the first sign of trouble anyway. I just don't see a nice natural vbac happening for me for some reason. I wish I had a crystal ball! Actually my Aunty used to have one but she's not around now to ask Smile

Focus I haven't started lying on my left yet. I'd always wake up some other position and feel guilty! I'm still small at the moment so guess I'm ok for now. The funny thing is I quite often sleep on my left but when pregnant its not as comfortable

mrswishywashy · 20/05/2015 08:30

I've already cried this morning. Started work last night with seven month old who is visiting from abroad. All she has done is cry, won't let me feed her, won't even let me look at her. Her parents are meant to be away this weekend and I can't see how she's going to be comfortable to stay with me without crying. Am worried that the stress and lack of sleep will effect my inside baby. I'm also so tired after about two hours broken sleep that i feel nauseous. Will take it hour by hour to see how it pans out.

As for sleeping style I've always preferred sleeping on my left side, so much so that my spine is somewhat crooked. I keep waking up on my back! So desparate to feel the baby that I keep poking my tummy.

The sun is out here so hope you all enjoy a good day.

Oddicombe37 · 20/05/2015 10:52

I was wanting a home birth this time (after one EmC and one VBAC), but now I'm high risk it looks like another caesarean, which I really don't want, as I live in the middle of nowhere and can't even get the children to school without driving.
