Hi everyone, haven't posted properly in a while. I've come down with a nasty chest infection so I'm taking this week off work.

StAlph I hope you are relaxing now. What a stressful few weeks for you.

toots there is a fb group which many of us are on, but still mostly posting here!

Poo I'm surprised at that! I have friends who had csec with their first and they were very positively encouraged to go for a vbac! I yes it will depends on the circumstances bearer the time, but it's your body! I'm not sure what options I'll be offered with twins but I would imagine it's not even up for discussion until much later.

Poppy I too have a friend with negative blood. Her recent second pregnancy was complicated because she had a small bleed which meant that they could have crossed blood. They had a difficult few weeks until the 20 week scan because it can have serious implications for the health of the second baby but all way fine! I think you just have to be very carefully monitored.

Chic I've got my consultant appointment on Wednesday for my twins. Do you think they will scan? I as expecting a really boring conversation about my previous labour and birth and then a list of all the many hideous risks with a twin pregnancy. A surprise scan would be lovely! We bought a twin push chair second hand at the weekend and now I'm scared that there won't be two babies after all.

With my first pregnancy, quite a few people asked immediately if it was planned (it was). Even people i hardly knew would ask that! This time when people hear it's twins, they ask if it was IVF! What a strange thing to ask. It wasn't, but if it was, why is it presumed that I would want to talk about that to someone I hardly know?

Sleepless I hope you're feeling a bit more reassured. I assume you've had a scan and seen a baby and a heartbeat? You won't have done any damage at all. Fetal Alcohol Syndrome is caused by prolonged drinking throughout pregnancy, and still plenty of babies are born to drinking mothers who are absolutely fine. An increased risk of miscarriage is also down to excessive prolonged drinking and you are well past the risky stage! A weekend of heavy drinking before you are even nourishing baby with your blood will have made no difference whatsoever. And to add to the anecdotal evidence, I know loss if people who have drink a lot before they knew they were pregnant and they all had perfect healthy pregnancies and babies. Pregnancy is such an anxious time. Of you were about to start IVF, I would imagine this has been a fairly long journey and perhaps you feel it is somewhat of a miracle that it happened? That's bound to make you feel more paranoid. All will be well.

Woah! Big post!

Poppyninja · 18/05/2015 14:22

Thank you, good to know xx

Oddicombe37 · 18/05/2015 14:36

Hi, I'm new here. I'm due some time in mid Nov (my dates don't entirely agree with my dating scan dates). I can't see any posts in this group since 30th April, so wonder if I am talking to an empty room!

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 18/05/2015 14:38

StAlph great news!

Poo I have the opposite problem in that they are trying to guilt trip me into VBAC against my preference. As I've got a small age gap and had a premature c section my risk of success is low (about 40%) and risk of rupture is high but I've still got to go on a VBAC course before I can see the consultant. Here's hoping we all get what we want

I've been in bed most of the day with bad pain in my scar. At least I have midwife tomorrow but I think I overdid it with lifting and travelling at the weekend. Ouch.

SnozzberryPie · 18/05/2015 14:39

Great news stalph!

Poppyninja · 18/05/2015 14:40

Yay, good news StAlph!!!

ChicBabyP · 18/05/2015 15:12

Poo, how many csections have you had? Usually if it's only 1 they try to encourage vbac but if more then usually a no no.

For those of you who asked previously about csections, I had an elcs only because of dd was too comfy in there and wouldn't come out and I was at term and with my medical history we just wanted her out safely. But the experience was actually ok, very relaxed. Was in bed for 24hrs till epidural and catheter were out and after that felt absolutely fine. Was on painkillers for about 10 days but out and about for walks after just over a week. Obviously can't compare to vaginal birth as she was my first but all in all a good experience.
I know many people who had emcs and were out for the count for about 3 weeks or so. Maybe it's the emergency part that makes recovery more difficult as then you've already been in labour for however long....

Guy, to be perfectly honest, my app was supposed to be next week at16 weeks but I just couldn't wait any more and managed to be seen this week already! (Not used to long periods between scans, because of my history, quite amazed I managed 3 weeks though!). So I'm planning on insisting to be scan to be reassured. I stopped many meds since my last scan and worried about the effect on the babies. Also, dd had a strange rash and fever last week and then I got the rash too on my stomach so got a little paranoid even though am immuned to all diseases and pediatrician said it was nothing to worry about for me. But still, I'm a bit of a nervous wreck at best of times so can you imagine now???

And yes about the ivf question! It's just so strange and rude for people to ask straight out. It's happened to me a few times (again because of my miscarriages history, have needed some medical help but it's none of anybody's business what it was!). People are just strange...
I actually learned from one of my many doctors consultation over time, that every woman will ovulate 2 eggs one cycle a year! And I saw it once by me while being monitored and was shocked so he explained.

Sorry for the long post everyone...

Oddicombe37 · 18/05/2015 15:18

I had a VBAC with my second. I had to push for it, as doctors seem a bit twitchy about it in my experience, but it was all fine. I'd never have a caesarean unless there was absolutely no choice after my experience with my first.

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 18/05/2015 15:32

I had an emcs due to low lying placenta. I've found midwives to be a bit judgey but seriously, there was no other way for DS to get out - the exit was blocked! Recovery was fine, I was up the next day once I was disconnected from everything. Not that's much choice when you've got a baby you just have to carry on don't you even if you dont quite feel like it.
I've been told the success rate for VBAC varies a lot. I was never in labour which reduces my chances, and so does being sewn up small (there's a lot of growing in the last month of pregnancy) so everyone's individual success rate is very different.
I think I'd be more inclined to VBAC if it was a nicer setting e.g. birth centre. They said I'd have to be connected to 2 monitoring things, antibiotic drip, have cannulas in my hands ready and it wouldn't be a very active birth. I'd prefer a nice vaginal birth to a section (I think) but if both are going to be highly medicalised I want a section, if that logic makes any sense at all?

Blueblink · 18/05/2015 16:02

Hi Oddicombe37 welcome! we are a very active group (and a friendly bunch!) - hopefully you've found all of the posts now?

PooSweats84 · 18/05/2015 16:20

Thanks everyone! The consultant and midwife have both said I'd have a 70-80% chance of successful vbac, so it isn't even a low chance, they just seem very twitchy! With my dd I had a natural delivery and ds was emergency at 35 weeks as he had complications and needed quick removal, although I was transported 3 hours away to a different hospital and then waited another few hours on a heart monitor, so wasn't your usual emergency situation, and they allowed me to be awake for the surgery and it was all quite relaxed, so not sure why the 'professionals' are all being so twitchy this time around! I'd cave in and have a c-sec if it wasn't for lack of family support afterwards. There's only DH and DS has special needs so won't understand that Mummy isn't quite up to her usual standard! They did say today that they'd have a team on standby if I needed an emergency c-sec and I'd have a cannula and be constantly monitored, so won't exactly be relaxed! Argh, so much to think about! Sorry, whinge over!

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 18/05/2015 16:31

I hope you get the birth you want Poo and as you have experienced both you know first hand the pluses and minuses of both too. I find medical people are either completely twitchy or completely the other way for some reason. Sounds like you have a very good chance of a successful vbac though
I don't see the consultant for ages, I guess they need my 20 week scan results first as if my placenta is in the wrong place again there's no discussion to be had. Although chances of that are the same chances as anyone else I'm told.

Lauramum23 · 18/05/2015 16:32

Just quickly posting to let you all know scan went fine, got neck fold measurement 1.4mm ( that's ok isn't it) my dates are staying the same 24th November. And I've told the kids they are exited!!

PooSweats84 · 18/05/2015 16:34

Yay! Excellent news Laura ! 1.4mm is amazing, anything over 3.5mm is considered out of normal range, so you're well within that!

Lauramum23 · 18/05/2015 16:49

Thought it was ok phew! Just to wait on bloods now

GuybrushThreepwoodMP · 18/05/2015 16:51

Yes, that's good Laura. My two both had measurements of 1.6mm at 13+5 and came out with 1 in 20,000 risk factor each so all good!

flyingsprocket · 18/05/2015 16:59

I have my first consultant apt on Thursday so I dug out the letter I got after the investigation into my MC. At the end there was a plan for my next pregnancy (it was over two years ago, so I'd forgotten about the letter to be honest.)

It appears I should have had some kind of first trimester swab, a scan at 7 weeks (which I had) and early anomaly scan at 16 weeks and a cervical scan. I did remember the high dose folic acid part of it but I'm hoping I can push for the other stuff when I see consultant on Thursday. Annoyed at myself for not remembering to show it to the midwife at booking in Angry

toots Indonesia sounds amazing! I too only look pregnant by 3pm!!

ch1134 · 18/05/2015 17:42

Just a quick one to say all well at the 12 week scan. Due 21st November. I'll read up on all your news later on x

Poppyninja · 18/05/2015 17:44

Great stuff ch1134 :)

toots whereabouts in Indonesia are you? Went on honeymoon there an wow it was amazing. Rather jealous

Unthoughtknown · 18/05/2015 18:47

Stalph, so glad you had good news. Would someone be able to add me to the facebook group?

cryingbabymess · 18/05/2015 19:42

Stalph, so pleased for you! GrinSmile

Is anyone else starving during the day then when you sit down for your meal at night that your OH has cooked and you're too full to even eat half of it? It's not like I've eaten loads today!! Was a late meal for us too! Confused

HeirToTheIronThrone · 18/05/2015 20:25

Crying I can't manage a full meal either! Very weird as I love my food. DH is complaining that he's putting on weight as he's getting my leftovers!

roughtyping · 18/05/2015 20:29

stalph amazing news! So pleased for you!
