I haven't told anyone IRL yet, doesn't feel real yet, I just feel really ill. With DS my mum knew fairly early on as I would be sick till I fainted, so no secrets for me. Hopefully I can keep the lid on this one a bit longer.

coffeenut · 04/05/2015 00:18

Is it really bad that I've just bought a pair of low waisted skinnies from Zara - I sized up?! They were cheap and I just figured I will probs wear them for the first 6 or so months afterwards as well .... they are so comfy. I cant stand anything tight atm either. Coming into winter here, so needed something!

I find maternity clothes a bit dire. Especially the horrid wrapover tent-style tops. Not looking forward to getting them out of storage. I might do a trip to H&M and try and get a few new cheap things. Maybe some long stretch tunics ... fx they have improved!

CarrotVan · 04/05/2015 07:06

I bought a pair of black Seraphine trousers on ebay - they are so expensive new and I snagged them for £3.50 which is a total bargain.

loveulotslikejellytots · 04/05/2015 07:24

They sound great coffee, if you'll get that much use out of them it's worth it.

I suppose I'm lucky, I wear a lot of wrap dresses for work, so they should be fine through summer. I don't really know what to look for with clothes, I'm hoping to find non maternity stuff that will see me through and I can wear afterwards too. So leggings, wrap dresses etc. hopefully I won't look too much of a frump.

My current jeggins from m&s have a soft elastic waistband anyway, hopefully I can just use these as under bump jeans. I prefer the look of the over bump jeans/trousers but will these be too warm in summer?

TeaandCake91 · 04/05/2015 07:42

I've had a quick scout of eBay, am hoping to get some cheaper stuff from there in the future so thanks for the tip carrot. Does anyone use a website / app to tell them what's happening week by week. I was thinking about what someone said yesterday about why morning sickness starts and realised I really don't know anything.

CarrotVan · 04/05/2015 07:51

loveu - you might find that your bump decides whether under or over is most comfortable. I could never keep under bump trousers up.

I'm sure I had a book teaandcake but my kindle broke so I'll nees to check on Amazon

CarrotVan · 04/05/2015 07:59

teandcake I had this one last time

Mummyofonesofar · 04/05/2015 09:11

I have the Bounty app and 2 books which I'm reading on the week by week stages.

I'm in my maternity bras, but I'm bigger this time so need some new ones soon, I'm mega bloated so my jeans are tight already, I have some nice maternity tops from last time and a pair of white trousers with a bump band. I found last time I wore over the bump until about 7 months when I switched back to normal low rise jeans which were more comfortable. Getting twingy back pains after yesterday's cleaning-a-thon, I hope it isn't pgp already!!

CarrotVan · 04/05/2015 09:26

Anyone else not getting any boob changes yet?

mummyofone - I've been getting that dull ache in my pubis bones so have got the gym ball out. I found a yoga routine for PGP on a blog but the details are in work

mrsfazruns · 04/05/2015 09:38

Carrotvan so glad you mentioned boobs!! Mine feel a bit bigger/heavier and my bras seem to be digging in but other than tingling nipples no pain or anything!! Was worrying me a bit as usually I'm so prone to boob pain on the slightest hormonal change x

TeaandCake91 · 04/05/2015 10:16

Thanks carrot that's my kindle reading for later sorted. My boons are definitely bigger and a bit sore. Bearable so far but I'm going to have to think about new bras soon. Getting the idea it's going to be an expensive few months which is a bit of a worry as we need to save some money for when I am off work.

OrangeBeehive · 04/05/2015 12:19

Hi everyone, hope you are all well.

Firstly so sorry Embolio Flowers

5+2 today and still feeling pretty much fine. Sore boobs and feeling a bit more tired / light headed. Been away for the weekend and took a cheapo pregnancy test when I came back - the line went very dark very quickly which was reassuring! Have also bought two CB digis but going to take them in a few days as think I should show 3+ by then if everything is going to plan (on the cusp at the moment).

Have told a number of close friends as had little choice (was with them at the weekend, knew they wouldn't believe me if I claimed antibiotics or whatever as a reason for not drinking!) but no family know yet and we're not planning on telling any of them until after 12 weeks. My jeans are really starting to feel snug due to bloating, keep having to undo top button while sitting down - luckily I work from home so can stay in my PJs most of next week!

loveulotslikejellytots · 04/05/2015 12:30

Teaandcake91 I've got an app from baby centre called my pregnancy. You put your due date in and it gives you a daily update. Really interesting. There's also a tick list, things like; book in with midwife, get a bra fitting etc. some of the. Are obvious but some of them are less obvious.

Lottiedaydreambeliever2014 · 04/05/2015 12:53

I'm glad I'm not the only one getting excited and looking at buying thing. I bought bigger tights and a nightie (don't laugh!) because my tights and pjs were really digging in last week. I've already had a quick look at prams in john lewis and got their baby catalogue, I was quick shocked by the cost of baby things.
I've told my mum and two close friends, oh hasn't told anyone.
I'm feeling exhausted today, how are you all feeling? I haven't experienced sore boobs yet but with you all on the bloating.

CarrotVan · 04/05/2015 12:56

eBay is your friend Lottie plus people will give you stuff

goodnessgraciousgouda · 04/05/2015 15:03

Hi all,

I thought I would tentatively poke my head into this thread, as everyone is in the same nerve wrenching first weeks.

I got my first ever positive pregnancy test on Friday, when I was two days late for my period. This was our 5th cycle of trying. My last AF was 5th April (I have shortish cycles), so I would be just over 4 weeks right now.

I'm finding it really difficult at the moment, as it's totally out of my control and I have no idea if everything is okay or not. We aren't telling anyone until we are past 12 weeks.

We have our first appointments at 8 weeks here to check for viability, so I am just waiting. I think I will go out and buy a fuck ton of pregnancy tests so I can reassure myself that the hormones are still there. I had very noticeable symptoms at the beginning, but they seem to have faded quite a bit since then. But then I have just started crying very easily and getting really annoyed very easily as well, so not sure if my symptoms are just changing a bit.

I can't believe that at just 4 weeks I am already so bloated!!!!

goodnessgraciousgouda · 04/05/2015 15:12

I was very keen to try de-caff at first, but I've read that the chemicals used to take away the caffeine are pretty bad as well (unless you get specially treated de caff which I can't find here). I'm not even drinking my beloved green tea as it's difficult to guess the caffeine content (though will probably have the odd cup once every fortnight or so).

In case it helps anyone with coffee alternative ideas, I'm drinking: hot water with lemon, rooibos, rooibos with vanilla, chamomile (but not everyday) and hot milk.

To be honest, I'm not sure what else I should be doing!! I've stopped smoking completely (last time I smoked was the day before I tested), and stopped drinking. I've started using body cream as I am prone to stretch marks. Aside from that...No idea what I should be doing!!!

Lottiedaydreambeliever2014 · 04/05/2015 15:58

I hadn't even thought about giving up caffeine, I have a brew in the morning and when I get home from work, sometimes one at lunch. Can't believe that's a no no! Brew

goodnessgraciousgouda · 04/05/2015 16:55

Lottie - Yeah, up to 200mg is okay per day. The problem is that the amount of caffeine varies enormously from coffee to coffee. People say there is 100mg in a mug of coffee, but that's actually for instant.

For brewed coffee (say drip or filter - the type they serve in Starbucks) there is between 115-175mg per 8oz, average of 145mg. So if you have one cup you're absolutely fine, but 2 and you are over. You have a bit of chocolate that day and you are even more over (caffeine in chocolate too).

Tea has less caffeine, but again, it changes wildly depending on the type of tea you have and how long you brew it for. I found this article a bit helpful for the tea:

CAFFEINE AMOUNTS

I think the generic advice is one coffee a day is okay. That gives you a bit of leeway in case you end up having chocolate, or a soft drink or something.

To save you some pain, I'd strongly advise against the sugar free, caffeine free coke. It tastes like absolute ARSE.

CarrotVan · 04/05/2015 17:22

gouda drink loads of water and generally keep hydrated to help with stretch marks but it's basically hereditary.

I'm going with peppermint leaf tea at the moment. I don't drink coffee and am having either a caffeine tea or a diet coke a day.

I am proper bloated today.

We're off to stay with my MIL towards the end of the month. If she notices we'll tell her as she's very sociable and often booked months in advance and we need her for childcare around the birth

Lookingforadvice123 · 04/05/2015 17:27

Afternoon all just checking in. Anyone had many symptoms yet? My boobs are still a bit tender but the pelvic cramping seems to have stopped, get a bit of backache now and then but I'm prone to that anyway.

The worst thing for me so far has been my mood Sad I've been quite down and glum, not for anything in particular so it must be down to hormones. Felt the same last weekend before I even knew I was pregnant. Anyone else experience this? Hope it doesn't last for the whole of the first trimester, I'm usually very chirpy and upbeat so I don't feel myself at all.

Seriously underwhelmed by the maternity gear that's out there it's all so dowdy.

goodnessgraciousgouda · 04/05/2015 17:40

looking - yes I have been feeling similar mood wise, although with a few quite sudden mood swings thrown in as well. I think it's partly the hormones, but also partly the uncertainty of everything at this stage.

For maternity gear I really recommend Seraphine for things like dresses and nice pieces that aren't too expensive. Way cheaper than Isabella Oliver. To be honest, I've been drooling over their dresses since before we even started ttcing!!

I've heard loads of pregnant women singing the praises of H and M as well for basics and jeans.

carrot - thank god you are bloated too!! I had to go out earlier and buy myself some yoga pants!!! I highly recommend getting a pair. They are just so SOFT and so COMFORTABLE. Plus they have that handy sort of "bump band" you get with maternity trousers, even though they are definitely not maternity wear.

CarrotVan · 04/05/2015 17:50

I lived in a pair of those last time although actual maternity ones, gouda, but they're in store along with half my life whilst we have our extension built. One more month and then I can get everything out and see what I have

I remember looking at those trousers and thinking 'I'll never be that big'. I was wrong...

goodnessgraciousgouda · 04/05/2015 19:09

I'm glad that you already have a whole bunch of stuff carrot. That must be super handy!!

I hope that everyone else on the thread is doing well!!

greysar · 04/05/2015 19:52

Hello ladies, tentatively poking my head in- would be about 4+4, due date of 6/1, first DC. MMC diagnosed at 12 week scan in Jan 2014 and had been trying unsuccessfully ever since, I'm finding it really difficult to get excited this time as I feel so badly burned from last time and haven't had many symptoms yet this time- just slightly large, tender boobs and a little nausea, and then a little brown spotting today Sad DH however is massively overexcited and has already told his parents.

Argh sorry for doom and gloom- and congrats to everyone not so glum!!!
