So sorry, Carrot. I doubt you will be wanting to hang around in this thread but wishing you lots of comfort.

OTheHugeManatee · 13/05/2015 19:55

Everyone - are you supposed to see a GP as well as the midwife when you find out you're pg? I am booked to see midwife at 8wks ish but is there anything else? The surgery didn't seem to think so and I'm in good health afaik so no reason to but I have not a clue Confused

MaybeMrsMum2016 · 13/05/2015 20:05

Manatee I had a quick GP appointment on friday. Basically he just asked me a few questions and recorded my details and we had a little chat. He didn't bother with blood pressure or anything. Receptionist booked my appointment with the midwife. First appointment is 1st June! Not looking forward to having blood taken Sad

brickiemum2 · 13/05/2015 20:07

We don't see a gp here, just self refer to the mw service.

Jmc88 - we are in west London so currently choosing between Queen Charlotte, Chelsea & Westminster, St Mary's and the Portland. All have private wings except the Portland which is just private. We've not completely decided private vs NHS yet but I think I want an elective c-section and that would have to be private so looking likely that's the route we'll take. Going to see how the visits go this wknd...

As for booze dodging; I am running out of excuses so if anyone has some more original ones pleeeease help! So far I have used:

  1. Too hungover to drink
  2. Need to drive later
  3. Food poisoning (can only really get away with this once!)
  4. Early flight / breakfast meeting next day
  5. On a diet (except I don't exactly look like I'm losing weight right now...)
OTheHugeManatee · 13/05/2015 21:56

joey what about 'on a detox'? That one could run for a bit in theory Grin

OTheHugeManatee · 13/05/2015 21:58

FWIW I have to attend a huge conference next week, full of shipping people, who are the biggest boozers in the world. I have NO idea how I'm going to cope Confused

Blackandwhitecat3 · 13/05/2015 21:59

So sorry Carrot Flowers

coffeenut · 14/05/2015 00:27

Feeling a bit heartbroken for poor carrot (she got her bfp same day as me on a conception thread).

Australia... any connection to oz apart from the nn?

Last Sat night I used the excuse I was trying to cut back/detox and that I'd already had a couple with lunch, Sunday I used the excuse that I was hungover.

TeaandCake91 · 14/05/2015 07:12

Random question of the day from the clueless newbie - can I have my eyelashes tinted? Was just thinking how pale they had got and how I must get them done this weekend when I thought about the chemicals

OTheHugeManatee · 14/05/2015 07:28

Tea - there is no reason not to have your lashes tinted. (Personally I'd just use mascara but that's because I'm tight and lazy, not because chemicals Grin)

Joey0805 · 14/05/2015 09:29

Yes! Detox... That's a great one! Does anyone have any tips to deal with bloating? I'm eating exactly the same as before (whilst I permanently feel hungover I'm not really badly suffering with nausea yet) so I don't really think I've gained weight per se but I have felt very bloated the last few days.

OTheHugeManatee · 14/05/2015 09:52

Wear dresses :(

OTheHugeManatee · 14/05/2015 09:55

FWIW I spent much of yesterday painting the house and def feel less bloated after all that bending and stretching. So maybe some kind of yoga/Pilates type thing might generally help with the bloat? I am going to experiment if I can dredge some energy up from somewhere as I feel the size of a house already, yuk Confused

Joey0805 · 14/05/2015 10:00

I do love pilates, going to do a class tomorrow morning, good idea.

Miniangel · 14/05/2015 11:53

Thinking of you Carrot. A big hug.

Sorry have not been posting these last few days. Have been terribly sick and had UTI so am on antibiotics. Had to get iv fluids in a&e on sat as couldn't keep anything down. Had hypermesis for 9 months last time so hoping this one will be different.

My stats are:

Age: 34
Location: South East London/ Kent border
DC #: 2
Months TTC: surprise baby
BFP date: 28 Apr
Booking in date/scan date: first dating scan : 7th may ( 7 weeks then) , booking in appt 27th may, 12 week scan :15th June
EDD: 25th dec but DC1 was 2 weeks late so could be in Jan

goodnessgraciousgouda · 14/05/2015 11:55

joey - I've already started doing the elastic band trick with my jeans. That's partly due to bloating, and partly because they were already a tiny bit too small for me anyway! I cut the middle section off of a tank top and use that as a makeshift bump band. All it has to do is to cover the fact that the fly is slightly undone, not hold them up.

I haven't had any nausea yet at all. I'm actually surprised that I've put weight on already. I've been avoiding junk, eating a bit more than usual but not that much, have obviously stopped all booze, AND I've been making an effort to do some form of exercise for at least 45 minutes each day.

I was roughly 59kg before, and I'm already up a kilogram! I am getting a lot hungrier than usual, and spending lots of time trying to subdue it by drinking lots of water and stuff.

Also, my skin has been getting worse and worse. Anyone else suffering with that???

kep1979 · 14/05/2015 11:59

Gouda I am O neg too, and my arse of an ex was O pos. The issue is that the baby could be rhesus positive, and if its blood got into your blood stream then your body could start to fight against it, which can cause problems with baby. It doesn't tend to be a problem with first pregnancies as the main risks are during birth, or if you have a heavy fall. As standard I think they give two anti-d injections with each pregnancy, and if you fall or have a bleed (I think after the first trimester but don't quote me) they give additional injections. They also test baby's blood as soon as they are born and if they are rhesus positive then they give you another injection. Both on my monkeys were O neg like me so had all the injections for nothing Smile

This time round my amazing dh is most probably also rhesus positive (we think, both his parents are so it's highly probable) - so will be back on the anti-d regime.

Generally they monitor this well, so it is not such an issue as it has been in the past.

helsbelsclarke · 14/05/2015 12:55

Just found out on Tuesday that i am pregnant with my first child at the grand age of 42. I am 5 weeks. Didn't honestly think it would happen as you hear how difficult it is to get pregnant after the age of 40 but i must be one of the very lucky ones as it only took 4 months.

I am over the moon about this but have now gone into panic mode and convinced that something is going to go wrong. Am supposed to be travelling a lot with work over the coming weeks including a trip to the US but trying to get out of it in case i start to feel worse or something goes wrong. I don't want to be on the other side of the world. Want to give myself the best chance of getting to 12 weeks where hopefully i can relax a little more.

Suffering from lightheadness/dizziness, slight nausea which seems to be increasing daily and the amount i have to pee is ridiculous!

Have spoken to the Dr over the phone and he has given me my due date of 13th Jan and told me to make an appointment with the midwife at 8 weeks and they have recommended a nuchal scan at about 11 weeks to check for the risk of downs syndrome

so much to take in and can't even have a drink to relax me :)
