Sad news carrot.

For some unfounded reason, I kind of assumed I'd be one of those women who doesn't get early symptoms. My periods were never anything to write home about after the first day and my mother never got any. Turns out I was wrong! I seem to have stopped cramping quite so regularly and painfully, which is a major relief, but I'm starting to feel queasy and surprised myself by retching yesterday. I'm still feeling pretty paranoid though. I guess that's normal, especially as it's the first time for me.

brickiemum2 · 13/05/2015 14:15

So sorry carrot xxx

carrot so sorry, please take it easy and rest up.

Niffertiti · 13/05/2015 16:30

Oh carrot, such a difficult time. Do take some time for yourself, especially if it does turn out to be a mc. I found people incredibly supportive when I was frank about having a mc, it happens to so many although we rarely talk about it. If DH is struggling to relate there will be support elsewhere (inc on the miscarriage boards here). Thanks

kep1979 · 13/05/2015 16:48

carrot so sorry, thinking of you. And hope you are getting support irl. I miscarried in March and was amazed when I told people (who didn't know I was pregnant) how lovely and supportive people were. Take care of yourself Flowers

BlueEspoir · 13/05/2015 17:10

Carrot I agree wholeheartedly with Niffertiti and Kep - if you are comfortable then don't hesitate to explain to people what you're going through, including those who didn't know you were pregnant (even if it feels a bit strange doing so). I miscarried in March and was totally knocked for six but in mentioning it to others I found out one friend was going through the same thing, which was a great help.

My advice would be to react however you feel like reacting. Keep reminding yourself that, whatever that reaction is, it is totally normal. You will come out the other side I promise. Sending you a huge hug.

Carrot - so sorry and really hoping that your dp can step up and give you the support that you need.

goodnessgraciousgouda · 13/05/2015 18:59

Evening all,

Just got my blood test results back.

At 5 weeks and 3 days (yesterday) my HGC levels measured as 16 786 ui/l, which is reasonably within the normal limits for weeks 5-6 (3 400 - 135 300), but not so high that I think I will get my dream of twins.

Potential problems

My blood type is O- whilst my husband is O+. I've heard that this can be problematic, so need to get an appointment with the doctor.

My thyroid measured slightly over the normal ranges. They give 0.27-4.20 as the normal range, and I was 4.62.

I was OBVIOUSLY negative for sodding toxoplasmosis, because I don't wipe cat shit around my face or eat raw meat. However, this means now monthly blood tests to check for it. If I haven't caught it in thirty years, why the fuck would I catch it now?

impatientlywaiting · 13/05/2015 19:19

Gouda was your thyroid result your TSH figure? If so I would query it. The normal figure changes in pregnancy so the aim is for TSH to be no more than 2.5 in pregnant women.

I've done loads of reading on it as I'm hypothyroid after having DS. From others info it seems like not all Drs are aware of the change in TSH target in pregnant women.

Rollermum · 13/05/2015 19:22

That's interesting Impatiently. Good to know. I've been hypo since I was 18 and for DD I had to fight to get early bloods and it was frustrating. I have a Dr appt on Weds to ask for one
Hope they can sort it for you Gouda

impatientlywaiting · 13/05/2015 19:40

Yes Roller it's really important it's well managed as it can have severe consequences. They change the range for Free T4 too, that should be over 16 for pregnant women.

I'd read that all online before, but the doc checked his guidelines whilst I was there and confirmed it.

I'll be getting my thyroid checked every 4 weeks during pregnancy to make sure my levels stay within pregnancy ranges.
