Am I the only one who's only taken the one pregnancy test? Didn't really see the point of taking another as it's not like my period has arrived and also I've read that even if you've miscarried the pg test will appear positive until you've ovulated again? I also don't want to waste my money ha.

6 weeks today! Feeling very down though, couldn't sleep last night as I was so anxious about mid carrying even though I'd been falling asleep on the sofa at about 9pm. Just have a terrible feeling that something bad is going to happen and it's still another 6 weeks until the 12 week scan! Seriously considering looking into getting an earlier scan privately at around 8/9 weeks but I don't know how much it would cost.

Is everyone else waiting until the 12 week scan? How is everyone today? My sore boobs have been off and on for the last few days which is just adding to my anxiety Sad

Azquilith · 11/05/2015 12:31

lookingforadvice I only took one test with DS1. And was about 8 weeks. With this one I have taken about a million and am only 5.
I'm feeling rubbish today, have had an awful sore throat for weeks, DP forced me to Drs and my tonsils are very dodgy and now loaded with antibiotics, and I've just done a blood test for glandular fever. Nice.
Did buy a load of maternity stuff on ebay yesterday though so that's making me feel a bit better.

AlohaMama · 11/05/2015 13:15

looking - i've done 3 tests but that is because the first one was really faint, so i did one the next day to double check. 3rd one was i'd bought a pack of 10 off amazon so figured i may as well use them!

goodnessgraciousgouda · 11/05/2015 13:33

I've done four tests in total, the last one was on Friday.

First test was two days after my period was due, and was quite faint (took it mid afternoon), the second test I took the next day first thing in the morning, and it was roughly the same. I took another test 3-4 days later, and it was as dark as the control line, which reassured me a little.

The one on friday was because I wanted to use a clear blue conception indicator thing - it said I was 2-3 weeks (since conception) and that was the day before I hit three weeks since conception. It was just reassuring to see I was approximately on target for where I should be.

Looking - I'm not sure what you mean about the pregnancy test staying positive until you next ovulate. It doesn't have anything to do with ovulation, it's the level of HCG hormone. So, if you taken a test and it was a very strong line, then you take the same test again a week later and it's a very faint line, then it would indicate that your hormones were dropping, which isn't a good sign.

I always thought people who took lots of tests were mad, but I can totally understand it now. It's basically the only thing to prove to yourself that you are actually pregnant!

Mummyofonesofar · 11/05/2015 13:49

Yes to hot milk bras tea I loved mine – very sexy looking – pulled it out of a bag and it doesn’t really fit now – far too small for this pregnancy. Carrot I am glad toddler is better! I was 6 weeks yesterday Grin Risk down to 7.5% today!

Aloha my tights today are rounding my bloat making me look huge – dresses without tights are the way forward when it stops raining! Until then I am wearing a big knit cardi.

Manatee congratulations!

Brickie those tests look great! My last frer at the weekend at 6 weeks was finally darker than the test line. I have taken 8 tests, and I have 1 more IC left for when I am bored. With DS I did 2, because it was a twin pack, but I had no idea how high the risk of mc was so didn’t worry once I was pregnant I just kind of assumed as long as I followed the rules I would stay that way!

Edgar I hope you feel better soon lovely, GPs are rubbish!

CarrotVan · 11/05/2015 14:03

Looking with everything else going on at the moment it's the only way I'm controlling my anxiety. I know that sounds odd but it's sort of like squeezing a stress ball. Still positive = at least one thing is going right at the minute.

I know that sounds a bit mad but I'm so tightly wound I feel a bit mad! MrVan reminds me I was a loon until the 12 week scan last time as well.

goodnessgraciousgouda · 11/05/2015 14:04

Mummy - Hot milk bras are STUNNING!!!! I don't know if I could ever bear to part with that much money for one though. Maybe I will just have to snatch one up in the sales!! I'm very jealous of yours!

Mummyofonesofar · 11/05/2015 14:17

Goodness I paid £25 for mine 7 years ago but looking on their website now - they have some very nice onces at £30-40. I would spend £30 on a nice non maternity bra anyway so don't think it is too bad - and it was so comfy!

Mummyofonesofar · 11/05/2015 14:18

THERE IS A SALE!!! £15-25 for some pretty ones!!

BlueEspoir · 11/05/2015 14:28

Hi all, newcomer to MN here! Was thrilled to find out last week that I'm pregnant again after a miscarriage in March - am very lucky that it happened again so quickly. Was slightly worried a few days ago to find out that my HCG levels are very low for someone at 5 weeks (by LMP) but it's possible that I'm actually only 4 weeks' pregnant due to disturbed cycle after miscarriage. Off for another blood test this week to monitor HCG levels. In any event, bbs are tender and I'm feeling nauseous so am keeping everything crossed! Looking forward to following this thread :-)

CarrotVan · 11/05/2015 14:41

Congratulations Blue

brickiemum2 · 11/05/2015 14:48

Personally I'm only doing multiple tests as this is my 7th pregnancy and I've only 2 children. It's not whether it's positive or not it's the increase or decrease in colour/concentration that's the issue (and no, there's no reason it would stay positive until your next ovulation) Having suffered so many losses and going for scans thinking everything is fine when it's not I'm really quite anxious lol. I've got a scan booked now for the 29th when I will be 7 weeks to check whether there is a sticky bean this time. In the meantime I May well be fairly neurotic Grin

jmac88 · 11/05/2015 14:53

Hi everyone. Found out on Thursday that I'm 5 weeks pregnant, due on Jan 7th 2016 with first baby! Terrified and excited at the same time (It wasn't planned) Seeing the GP tomorrow morning. Congratulations to you all xxxx

OTheHugeManatee · 11/05/2015 14:56

Congrats Blue and jmac!

CarrotVan · 11/05/2015 14:56

Congratulations jmac

I've been fortunate enough to not have suffered any losses brickie so don't even have a good reason to be neurotic. Fingers tightly crossed for your scan

BlueEspoir · 11/05/2015 15:09

Brickie I share your anxiety about low/slowly rising HCG level. I'm monitoring everything as I'm very nervous about losing another pregnancy (it knocked me for six last time). But I am trying my best to focus on staying calm and positive as I know it's for the best. I've got an exam on Friday - focusing on revision is not working out so well at the moment! My EPU have promised to scan me as soon as possible - hopefully around the same time as you.

Congrats Manatee and jmac

loveulotslikejellytots · 11/05/2015 15:24

Sorry to hear about all those who've had previous mc's. It must be awful. Hand holding if anyone needs it.

On a lighter note, how are all your DP's doing? This is our first, I think he's still in a state of disbelief! Until he's seen a scan I don't think it'll become properly real! He's being very protective, I can't so much as lift the Hoover without him telling me to take it easy! Very sweet, but considering we've ways split all jobs (car cleaning, DIY, hoovering, cooking) equally and he's never worried before, it's a bit strange! I could get used to it though! I think I like being pampered!

We saw some friends on Saturday, we usually go away with them every other year. They invited us over to discuss next years holiday! Egypt in August! Loved telling them why we'd probably avoid that one! Grin

Joey0805 · 11/05/2015 15:27

I have my early scan booked in for a week Weds when I'm 7 weeks. Ahead of that though this wknd coming we're visiting hospitals! I feel a bit superstitious about doing it so soon but it's the only weekend we're free for ages and I need to choose my consultant relatively soon apparently - madness! But will make it feel really real for me I think; so far finding it hard to sink in.

Mummyofonesofar · 11/05/2015 15:38

Congrats Blue & jmac !

loveu I find the whole thing mesmerising and amazing - especially now I know there will be a little heart beating inside me now, DP is very chilled out about the whole thing, letting me nap if I need to, rubbing my belly but not wanting to hear how it is the size of a lentil and what it might be doing inside me. He hasn't panicked at all, he said "well this is what we had been trying for why would I not be over the moon?" I am allowed to lift the hoover but not the coal bucket Hmm

Joey good luck chosing your hospital!

Lookingforadvice123 · 11/05/2015 15:57

I thought the faintness of the line didn't make a difference though (unless it's so faint you're not sure it's there)? I thought a line was a line. The test I did (day after AF was due m) the second line was clear but much fainter than the control line. See pic attached Smile

I don't have any experience of what I mentioned re the test still being positive, it's just what I've easy during my obsessive researching! On several forums, women who had miscarried/were miscarrying were still showing positive pregnancy tests, which must be awful. And a few had said the doc told them that their level of hcg will still be high - and therefore still return a positive test - likely until after they've ovulated again.

I'm too anxious to do another test to be honest, I have one leftover as I bought a two-pack of FRER. But if it was negative I would freak out, so for me it's best left be!

Lookingforadvice123 · 11/05/2015 15:58

Oops forgot to include my pic, so forgetful since being pg!

Mummyofonesofar · 11/05/2015 16:00

Looking that is a good line - I would be using the next test for fun and to see it get darker but you are pregnant and if you have no concerns re bleeding, intense pains then you stay as you are! x

HotFudge87 · 11/05/2015 16:13

Hi! Just giving a big wave to all you Jan 16 mummies! I'm 5 weeks due aaprox 8 Jan :) happy bump growing to you all :) x

goodnessgraciousgouda · 11/05/2015 16:26

loveyoulots - Your DP sounds so sweet!!! Mine was really happy when I told him (a few minutes after I found out), although it took a few "No I'm not joking! Yes, really!" before he believed me. Since then though he has been on purely practical mode. He isn't showing any excitement or happiness about the pregnancy, as he says he wants to wait until the 12 week scan before he really takes it as a given. It's our very first, so I can understand why he is feeling cautious.

jmac88 · 11/05/2015 16:29

Thank you for the congrats!

Feeling pretty nervous as last year was diagnosed with septate uterus which can cause higher rate of early miscarriage. Never had a miscarriage before but is still terrifying me. Hoping to request an early scan with the GP tomorrow but not sure if they'll be sympathetic. Anybody else first time with septate uterus? Xxx
