Yaldi! Sitting waiting on ante-natal classes starting.

I HAVE THE FEAR!!

hello firefly and any other new people I've not noticed Grin

OP posts:
Chookford · 29/04/2015 07:22

firefly congrats and welcome, I'm sorry to hear your journey has been a tough one so far but your baby sounds like a little fighter, sure everything will be fine

AlcoholicsUnanimous · 29/04/2015 20:04

Hi firefly. As Anything said, is there a plan in place for once baby is born? I too marvel at the way these things are diagnosed now, seeing the baby's blood flow at the 20 week scan was pretty incredible. I'm sure the hospital have everything in hand, but of course it must bring a whole new dimension of worry to the birth.

Does anyone else have experience of GD? It was confirmed yesterday and, although I have another appointment next week following a scan tomorrow, I'm impatient! Was just wondering if anyone had been induced early or anything in the past.

One day less until mat leave for everyone counting down Smile

comeagainforbigfudge · 30/04/2015 12:36

Right I know I'm lucky to have my annual leave, that I would have been signed off sick because of spd BUT I'm bored Confused

I wish I could go for a walk, (longer than 10mins before getting sore and unable to move the next day if I do walk for longer), that my attention span was better, I had so many sewing projects lined up. I've started one. Then stopped.

All I seem to be capable of is keeping kitchen tidy and re-painting my nails every few days.....

I really shouldn't complain should I?!

Anyway, yes it's amazing what they can pick up on u/s these days! Hope the hospital plans are in place firefly. Where in the country are you? (Being nosey - no need to answer)

zahaziland · 30/04/2015 13:08

Sorry to hear about your SPD comeagain, it doesn't sound like fun at all. Have you thought of/heard about adult colouring books? It may sound silly, but I know several people who have really enjoyed it. There are some really intricate designs and it doesn't require much attention, but allows you to relax and free your mind.

I've taken the afternoon off work to treat myself to a pregnancy massage. I love massages, and this will be my first one since a loooong time... Looking forward to it!

Afternoon ladies

Just had my final growth scan at 36+4 and baby has turned so I don't need a c section after all! Hooray!! Grin

Hope everyone is well...

come sorry to hear you are suffering again with spd that must really be horrible..

zaha enjoy your massage it sounds wonderful!!!

comeagainforbigfudge · 30/04/2015 14:54

Thanks ladies. The spd is always there in the background. Just having a low day as everything takes so long to get done. Tori I've given up trying to walk and I'm just trying to do squats every day.

On the plus side my Amazon delivery of dr brown bottles arrived Smile.

The me at antenatal classes said that birth is probably going to happen soon after us ladies start nesting - don't think she factored in those of us that have ann leave and a long list of things we want done beforehand and the time to do it!

I'm rambling.

Oh Chook that sounds like good news!

Chookford · 30/04/2015 15:00

Thanks anything was convinced it would still be breech so was very good news!!!

bubalou · 30/04/2015 16:09

Hi ladies,

Facebook defector here. Hope you're all well - have been trying to catch up on the thread.

I'm 35+1 now. Baby has definitely moved lower over the past few days - I can actually breath. Bedtime is uncomfortable, if I'm not awake / peeing / up with hip or leg pain every two hours it's a miracle! Confused

In regards to bio oil - my lovely husband has spent a small fortune on this special rosehip oil for me drink this pregnancy which has been amazing. I do have stretch mark prone skin but so far this pregnancy no new ones, I just have a couple on each of my 'muffin top' side areas from my last pregnancy.

FIREFLY - I am the fellow mum who's baby also has a heart defect.

If you want to chat at all then don't hesitate to message me, either on here or direct. Smile

jazzyjenbo · 30/04/2015 18:35

In jazzy news..... Now 35+4, finish work tomorrow, had last growth scan on monday and baby is looking a good size.

There was discussion on the FB group whether to say this or not (hope i'm not stepping on anyones toes)
But
We have our first official JuneBug baby..... I'm not at liberty to say who but she was one of our original members.
Hopefully she will come on when she gets chance ... I'm not in the habit of doing announcements etc which is why i'm not adding any further details.

AlcoholicsUnanimous · 30/04/2015 21:30

comeagain SPD sounds awful, and mat/ annual leave when you're unable to do anything doesn't sound fun. Do you have Netflix to keep you occupied?

Good news about your scan chook.

Bubalou good to know that breathing becomes more comfortable once the baby has moved down. What's the rosehip oil that you've been drinking? Sorry to hear about your lo's heart condition.

Oh my a baby already! I hope all are well.

How do you update the stats?

Had a scan today to see if the placenta has moved. It has, but the umbilical artery PI was 1.20, which seems to indicate high pressure? Has anyone else had this?

Catypillar · 30/04/2015 22:21

I'm another one who's been posting on Facebook but not on the threads... now 33+5, awaiting date for C section at about 38 weeks.

AlcoholicsUnanimous I was diagnosed with GD a few weeks ago, would very much recommend this Facebook group www.facebook.com/groups/GestationalDiabetesUKMums/ I've found it very helpful particularly for food ideas. Glucose targets, metformin, insulin and plans for delivery vary between areas but generally if you're in England or Wales they'll follow the NICE guidelines and if you're in Scotland (as I am) they'll follow the SIGN guidelines (both easily found on Google). I initially attempted diet control only but although it helped it didn't fully control my sugars and I'm now on metformin and insulin- still have to stick to the diet though! It's not been nearly as much hassle as I thought it would be though. I've been advised that as I'm on insulin I should have the baby at 38 weeks and had the choice of induction or C section- I chose C section. Happy to answer any questions about GD, I've done a lot of reading about it in the last few weeks!

jamakatab · 01/05/2015 00:15

Hello again everyone. As it's now six weeks since my granddaughter was born (due date June 14th!) I thought I'd give an update. Many, many times we thought the end was near, but each time our feisty little one has rallied and here we are finally at a place where it's more likely that she will survive than not. She has MRSA in both eyes, is still on CPAP and unable to breathe independently, but she has survived NEC and a couple of other serious infections and now weighs 3lb 5oz. My daughter is deeply worried about the long-term effects of a lack of oxygen to the brain, but I genuinely think that any developmental delay will be manageable. It's hoped that in a week or so the little one will be able to move from her incubator to a 'hot cot' and can finally get dressed. The champagne is chilling in the fridge waiting to mark that particular milestone.
Congratulations to all of you who are now on the home straight and here's hoping for safe straightforward deliveries. Smile

bubalou · 01/05/2015 07:54

Alcoholics - thank you. Smile The one I use I started to get from a local health shop but the cheapest place to get it is Amazon. It's around £17 for a 50ml bottle but honestly worth it.

It's called - Rio Rosa Mosquetta - rosehip oil.

It is lovely and as DH says it's better to spend the money now and try to keep them at bay because once they are here there's nothing you can do.

Jamak - really glad little one is on the mend. I know everyone has a story and it's a completely different case to yours but - my sister was born at 26 weeks - 20 years ago.

She was 1lb 4oz and one of the smallest babies to survive at the time. She was in hospital for months, had hydrocephalus that needed a shunt she still has, etc, etc.

In the early days we were told she was probably going to be deaf and blind amongst other problems. We were then told she would have severe disabilities, then as the weeks went on they said she wouldn't be severely disabled or blind and deaf but probably severe learning difficulties at least. She too had problems with oxygen etc.

She kept improving however and after a lot of hospital trips and the miracles of medicine she is now a normal working, driving, moody 20 year old. Wink

She's a bit small maybe at just under 5ft but that is all.

I just wanted to share as its a story from a long time ago and the doctors even though doing the best to prepare us didn't really know how she was going to react and develop and babies are amazingly resilient.

Smile
Theyvallgone · 01/05/2015 08:42

Morning everyone. Hi Pregnant and firefly :)

Thanks for the batch cooking tips - Tori that is a brilliant idea, I love mashed potato and never thought about batch cooking it! Its well up on my list now! Comeagain good idea, have sent DP out on his lunch today to pick up some tupperware (trust me to have thrown all the takeaway containers I collected over the years ...).
So my plans so far are chilli, leek and potato soup, fish pie, meatballs and sauce, shepherds pie, mashed potato, apple and cinnamon muffins, banana and cranberry loaf. Am just going to use this as my meal plan this week, make double the amount and freeze half - win win!

Sunbathing its interesting you say you lost the ability to concentrate recently - thats exactly whats happened to me, its driving me mad as usually I love nothing better than a good book and can spend hours with my nose buried in it. I would say I don't believe in baby brain so it can't be that, but yesterday I took my grandma to the garden centre and came out with a small tree and some compost, one of the store workers helped us out to the car to load up (very nice :) ) but could I find my car for the life of me? I was so embarrased! So maybe there is something in that ;)

Comeagain and Tori I can totaly sympathise with your SDP! I was off work sick with hyperemesis until 17 weeks and from the point I was fit enough to come back to work I was bad with SPD and had to just to admin duties - very boring! Finished work at 32 weeks and thought I would be bored but have been very busy up till now. Funnily enough none of my 'scrub the house till it sparkles' plans have been done though ... too painful! I have hydrotherapy once a week and a support belt, but can't walk too far either.

Alcoholics Catypillar thanks for the link to the GDM facebook group. I was diagnosed a couple of days ago and am really fed up about it :( Wanted to use birth centre etc. and feeling really restricted with adding sugar and too many carbs to the amount of things I'm now not allowed or able to do :( Have spent the last few days crying and complaining about how hard everything has been, even though realistically despite the hyperemesis, SPD and GDM I've been lucky that baby seems ok. I still don't really know what I'm up against and whether I'll be induced early etc. having growth scan in a week at 36 weeks and will take it from there I guess. Fed up and need hand holding :(

ok, sory for very long post - had a few days catching up to do, as haven't felt like coming on with all the too-ing and fro-ing from the hospital. Need to cheer myself up somehow ... and re-pack the hospital bag in anticipation for a longer stay than I wanted.

comeagainforbigfudge · 01/05/2015 12:37

chook that's great news!

Hello bubalou, catypillar and jam

jam sounds like your grandaughter is a wee fighter. Remind me, I have a vague memory that they are abroad? Are you out there with them? It's amazing what the human body can do. As well as how advanced medicine has become!

Alcoholics I don't know anything about umbilical artery pressures I'm afraid. But when I have a chance I'll dig out my nursey textbooks and try and look it up for you. Not promising i'll find anything though.

Theyvallgone it's amazing how babies are mostly alright!! They are just leaching all their strength from us. Sorry you've had a rubbish time lately. Can you put on some of your favourite music and sing at top of voice? I've got proud Mary playing just now. CHAIR DANCING WILL HAPPEN Grin along with dodgy singing Blush

So I stupidly agreed to go to cinema last night. And I'm suffering for it today. Feel like I've been doing sliding tackles and done myself an inner groin injury - BOTH SIDES!! ARRRGH!

cuphat · 01/05/2015 14:01

Jam, it's good to hear from you, thanks for the update. I'm so sorry that your granddaughter has had to go through all that, it must be really hard for you all. I am so glad she is doing better now - she is definitely a little fighter. Keep us updated.

Welcome to all the newbies.

Finally got my section date today. Due to the weekend and bank holiday the choices were 4 days apart and I found it hard to decide which one to go for. As I've said that time is going too fast the whole way through I opted for the later date - 26th May. So hopefully I'll have a few extra quality days with DD. I'll be 39+4 so I really hope baby stays put till then.

I also have PGP/SPD. I'm managing to keep it under control by doing as little as possible!

Great news chook (think I commented on the other thread too!).

And good news re the stretchmarks, bubalou. I used rosehip oil on my c- section scar last time and it faded really well (pointless as I'm having another one now!).

Chookford · 01/05/2015 18:29

thank you alcoholics, come and cup

jam great news about your granddaughter she sounds like a little fighter!

cup hooray for section date, hope baby stays put for you until then!

Hello Junebugs....

I have updated the Facebook group but had not checked in with Mumsnet for a while. So wanted to update this thread, bring an original Junebug.

I am a mummy! It all happened rather quickly. Austin Philip Pegg was born on Monday 27 April at 7.15pm by EMCS.

My birth story is as follows. I had been on pre-eclampsia 'watch' for a while. Blood pressure had slowly been rising for weeks. The midwife sent me into hospital at the beginning of last week because it had got to an unacceptable level. They kept me in for the day but then sent me home. The following day, I just got steadily worse. Felt like death. Had headache I couldn't get rid of, was knackered and got really bad epigastric pain and pain in my right shoulder. I had also swollen up like a balloon. I knew something was not at all right so rang the maternity ward and went back into hospital last Thursday. They kept me in and monitored me for days - My blood pressure was yoyoing but I just generally got steadily worse. On Sunday they started getting interested in my gastric pain/shoulder pain and my liver enzyme levels which were increasing. They had put the gastric pain largely down to indigestion before as this is not unusual in normal pregnancies.

After a lot of blood tests, on Monday evening this week they diagnosed HELLP, the consultant came to see me and within an hour of diagnosis, I was prepped for surgery and told that my organs were failing. Basically they had to act fast. They put me under a general aneasthetic and operated. Next thing I knew I was being woken up and being told I was a Mum.

So it was a bit of a whirlwind....and I have spent the last few days being v fearfully monitored whilst my condition improves...I am feeling much better today suddenly after a ropey week so hoping that it is upwards from here.

Brilliantly though, little Austin is a complete star and doing extremely well which does make it all worthwhile. He was just shy of 5lbs when born (and he was 33 weeks +6 when he was born so he was a good weight). He is in neonatal and doing amazing. He has not needed any help breathing and it is just feeding that he needs help with. I am biased obviously, but he is completely adorable.

The neonatal people are all amazing and he is having the best possible care whilst I recover. I have now managed to have cuddles with him and change him too.

I am so looking forward to when we can all go home as a new little family. Despite a traumatic and rather shocking week, I feel blessed that little Austin is doing so well, I am ok and that my amazing husband has managed to cope with it all too.

I hope you are all well Junebugs. Best of luck for all you people arrivals. We have the best times ahead of ourselves

htf2 · 01/05/2015 23:06

Such good news Croon and so glad you are feeling better! You would never have guessed the backstory from that glamourous hospital photo :) Hope you get to go home soon!

I have just been catching up (not properly, way too much there) with the thread. I'm due 5 weeks today and have 4 more days of work which I am so excited about assuming I can get through them! My client today offered to pay me to hold off having the baby :P

croon979 · 01/05/2015 23:11

Thanks htf2 - enjoy finishing work and name the most of the time off prior to your little one's arrival. I had 6 weeks off work planned before due date which obviously hasn't quite gone to plan! Best of luck x
