Hello Alcoholic Smile

I teach a mixed Y1/2 class and know exactly what you mean about tiny chairs and children who just crash into the bump!! Also, I spend a lot of time bending over to child-mouth level to hear what they're saying, not to mention time just sitting on the floor working with groups and multi-link/magnetic letters/dienes rods etc.... But then I can't get up!!

I only work 3 days as I have 2yo dd at home but I am completely shattered and just in so much pain all the time Hmm Last pg I carried on working full time til 36 weeks (although it was in Y3 in a private school where the norm was much more "sitting at desks" rather than lots of practical activities.) This time I was supposed to be doing the same and thought it would be ok as I'm only p/t.... More fool me. This pg has been straightforward medically but just so much more painful from pretty much the first thing I knew about it! I'm really struggling even just moving around the house at a snail's pace so I think I have decided I need to ring tomorrow and see if I can just do half days this week and next until I start ML. She has been very supportive so far and has said whatever I can do will help them with cover and so on so I hope she'll be sympathetic....

Welcome alcoholics

rolypolybird84 · 26/04/2015 21:25

alcoholics I am also a primary y2 teacher and due on same day with my first! Smile lots in common!

I'm finding it ok but I'm on the countdown...17 more teaching days (taking out couple of insets and bank hols!!!)

I'm just worried about the amount of stuff I need to hand over...that is worse than the full on days!!!

Although getting up off the carpet is becoming increasingly challenging!!!Grin

comeagainforbigfudge · 27/04/2015 14:16

Do any of you ladies know how I can wash car seat? Does it come off easily? I got a second hand one from family member. (It's only just over a year old and not been in any accidents before anyone says anything Wink)

Also I had a yucky time last night. Felt sick, was proper sick then needed to blow my nose and there was BLOOD in it!!!!

Not a proper nose bleed but gave me a wee fright.

However after being sick I did manage to sleep the whole night through!!

Thanks sun feeling better, I made it outside for a couple of hours (hit home bargins for random things I don't need ha ha ha)

I had read about nosebleeds too. But have so far escaped them.

OP posts:
Chookford · 27/04/2015 15:59

come your car seat cover should just come off to be washed... Most do.

I'm no suffering from nose bleeds but my nose is constantly blocked so going to bed is no fun as soon as I lie down I feel like I'm suffocating! Im up at 5am every morning now although I suppose it's getting me used to early morning rising when baby arrives! Confused

AlcoholicsUnanimous · 27/04/2015 19:49

Thanks for all the welcomes ??

pasbeaucoup I've often wondered over the past 6 months just how people manage to have more than one child. It must be exhausting to go home after a day at school to a toddler. Good that your headteacher has been supportive though.

rolypoly there are a lot of coincidences! Are you just (!!!) handing over your class or do you have other responsibilities too?

It is really undignified to have to move onto all fours to get up from the floor in front of a class of 30 Hmm

I'm actually feeling pretty grateful for the GTT tomorrow so I can sit down with a book for a couple of hours!

pasbeaucoupdegendarme · 27/04/2015 21:12

Grin I quite enjoyed my gtt for that reason too, Alcoholics!! Took my crochet along and actually got some done.

I spoke to my head this morning who has agreed to me doing half days this week and next before I go on ml. What a star she is, I kept thanking her and she said I didn't need to thank her because I was within my rights just to say I was stopping and she was grateful I am doing as much as I can to keep going. Soooo different from my last experience when I was working for a total penis someone else.

Dd is being haaaaard work atm. She cried for an hour when we got in this evening, and is still awake protesting that I won't go back up to sing her a(nother) lullaby. I think she's realising this baby isn't going to be theoretical for ever and she's struggling with the emotions. Also, lots of things I'd usually do with her at the drop of a hat, I can't do any more. It must be tough for her. She talked very early and has always been very articulate so we've not had a lot of communication type problems, but I think she's just experiencing emotions she can't name or explain anyway. Ho-hum. It was never going to be straightforward.

Theyvallgone · 28/04/2015 08:58

Morning everyone. Hi Alcoholic :) - 5 more weeks, wow I'm impressed, I finished 2 weeks ago and it couldn't have come at a better time!

Woken up in agony this morning with joints (not unusual for me) and pelvic pain :( clearly was too ambitious in walking the dog yesterday ugh. MW and DRs in an hour so I'll do some complaining to them!
chook I can sympathise, I caught a cold about 2 weeks ago that will not go away and I feel constantly like I'm suffocating, and what is it with waking up at 5am and not being able to sleep? I'd rather prepare for a newborn by getting plenty of sleep in beforehand ;)

So good to hear about the kindle waterproof covers, I do have a kindle which I got at christmas. I had chewed it over for years as do really prefer the feel of a real book, but thought with having a baby etc. having lots of books stored on one device would be useful. However I did find reading in the bath a bit nerve wracking! Sun keep us updated on whether you enjoy Girl on a Train, its on my 'to read' list. I set myself a target of 50 books this year ... and I've read about 6. Ooops hah.

Thinking about doing some research around batch cooking today so I can get some meals in the freezer for the newborn months - anyone done this before or got any tips?

Hope everyone is good today x

zahaziland · 28/04/2015 09:36

Hi Alcoholics - we have the same EDD and I also have 5 more weeks work to go.

Theyvall, sorry to hear you have joint pain - hopefully it will sort itself out.

I've been awake since 4:40 this morning, it's so frustrating, I feel tired and want to sleep but it's impossible.
I am at home this morning waiting for baby's mattress to be delivered - exciting!

Has anyone had any colostrum production yet? I haven't had anything at all, not sure how common it is to have some leakage before actual birth.

comeagainforbigfudge · 28/04/2015 10:02

Morning

Chook. Thanks for car seat advice. Will have a proper play about with it today.

they I love batch cooking. Need to create some space in my freezer for it. I intend to make chili, bolognaise, cottage pie mix (just the sauce part) and label them all. Then it's just a case of making pasta/rice/mashed pots. Need to stock up on some salmon &veg to make fish parcels as well.
My tip would be to stick to what foods you like. And get plastic tubs from £1 shop. Perfect portion sizes for 2

I had a terrible tossy/turny sleep last night. Dosed off again once OH went to work and I've only just woke up! With a drewth, desparate need to pee, hunger, and a million sneezes! Pelvic floor getting a workout Grin

Pas it must be difficult for little ones realising they're not going to be the only one getting your attention. Do you know whether she'll be having a brother or sister? So envious of your head, the attitude of mine is pretty much be here or go, with no flexibility or amendments to make anything easier. Everyone else at work has had very straightforward pregnancies and so I feel a lot of pressure to carry on as they did.

Theyvall I totally agree with you on the sleep. I'll be interested to see what you plan to batch cook as well as my ideas are quite limited. Comeagain are the fish parcels on pastry? I'm going to try to steer clear of curry pr anything too spicy as I've read this can be passed on to the baby when breastfeeding, but I'm guessing it depends on the baby.

zaha I've had colostrum for a couple of months, only very small amounts though. I used to have some piercings and initially thought I had some nasty infection!

AlcoholicsUnanimous · 28/04/2015 10:23

Tori you can freeze dauphinoise? This is dangerous knowledge.

comeagainforbigfudge · 28/04/2015 10:29

No I just wrap them up in foil/greaseproof paper, never thought of pastry.

Oh I like the idea of dauphinoise potatoes yum yum yum

I don't have microwave so most of my batch cooking is geared toward hob or oven. But I basically will freeze any meal that I would cook normally.

Think I might go through freezer and see what has been there too long to make some space, got a slight cooking mojo happening now!!

I was also on a batch cooking thread a while back. Will try and find it at some point today (need to pretend to tidy up first, a very least put a wash on ha ha ha)

Ps hands up if you've still not got hospital bag organised?! I'm in total denial I think. I contemplate it but then do nothing!

comeagainforbigfudge · 28/04/2015 10:41

Found it. I may mutter on about freezer being full in this one as well ha ha ha

Hi Alcoholics - welcome Smile

Just wanted to add that I wouldn't worry too much about spicy food. Baby is getting all the tastes from the food you're eating now so will be well used to a variety of flavours (unless you're surviving on plain hula hoops!). I believe people report effects on their babies from certain but there's no scientific evidence to back it up, especially about babies being windy for certain foods - I think physiologically that's actually thought to be impossible Grin

I'm counting down now - 11 days at work, 8 weeks until due date, 3 weeks until our next growth scan when we might agree dates for sweeps and possible induction to get this apparent ginormous-baby out before he/she gets too big. Exciting stuff.

Pas - so pleased your head is so understanding and solidarity re: DD. Mine is insisting on co pant in the night, so DH is taking one for the team and sleeping in a sleeping bag in her bedroom floor. Hope it's just a phase ...

AlcoholicsUnanimous · 28/04/2015 11:46

Anything very good point about baby already eating everything I do. Very exciting how close everything is for you Smile

come again that's a really useful thread, thanks. I have an emergency hospital bag for me packed, I figure if anything were to happen at this point lots of things for the baby would be unnecessary. However, I was admitted a few weeks ago and had to send OH home to fetch PJs, underwear etc and he returned with a pair of £40 silk knickers Hmm Keen to avoid a repeat of that...

PregnantAndEngaged · 28/04/2015 13:52

I haven't posted on mumsnet for what feels like (and probably is) months! I'm another facebook user.. but I figure it'd be nice to return for the homestretch :D

fireflyninja · 28/04/2015 15:56

Hello all, is there room for one more? I'm expecting our first at the end of June, we've had quite the journey to get to this point (4 years TTC, 2 x IVF, low papp-a at 12 week scan, HG kicked in at 15 weeks, and a heart defect diagnosed at 20 weeks) so it's quite a relief to have actually made it this far! Looking forward to finishing work in just over 3 weeks and getting on the next rollercoaster Smile

AnythingNotEverything · 28/04/2015 16:14

Welcome firefly!

There's another June Bug with a baby with a heart problem ... Not sure she posts on MN anymore.

Do you have a plan in place to treat him/her after birth? The wonders of modern medicine - so amazing to be able to be prepared for this sort of thing nowadays.

zahaziland · 28/04/2015 17:09

Welcome new (and returning) people.

Firefly, sorry to hear that you have had a difficult journey. I hope that your physicians had an effective medical follow up/solution for your little one's heart.

I realise now how many of us have had difficult journeys. When I started TTC a couple of years ago, I had no idea of the rollercoaster that awaited. I experience so much pain and grief that I felt as if my heart was literally breaking. MN has been an eye-opener making me realise that so many people have tough journeys - I wish I had joined earlier to be able to share all the pain, but also all the joy!
