Just got my bfp positive today and am thinking we need a thread for all the babies that will be born around new years and Christmas. I'm due new years eve and just know I'll be sick of the comments real quick! So we can vent and plan low stress xmases together.

I know we have the December thread and will have the January one, but why the hell not there's room for everyone!

Help!!! I'm on day 5 of being unable to eat anything other than a few dry crackers, the odd yogurt and apple. I really forgot how awful the first trimester can be. I'm only 7 weeks and could cry at the thought of feeling like this for another 5 weeks or so. Anyone else struggling? My DH goes away on Wednesday for 3 weeks I think I might have to tell my parents as I don't think I'll cope with my DD feeling the way I do and might need help.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 09/05/2015 14:43

that sounds very hard griffomais. I'm really struggling with constant nausea but I am able to keep food down.

Queazy · 09/05/2015 15:09

I can really sympathise. Morning sickness really kicked in today and forgot what all day nausea felt like after dd. it's only been mornings and evenings so far. Yuck Hmm Do tell your parents if you need their support - not being able to eat for 5 days is just horrible.

IfYouWereARiverIdLearnToFloat · 09/05/2015 15:25

Griffomais you poor thing. I'd consider telling your parents & accept all the help on offer to get you through the next few weeks.

CuppaSarah · 09/05/2015 15:49

Griff that sounds really difficult, you just get some support. Have you been to the drs?

Anyone else have any cravings? I am way too into Thai red curry, but I need some mega anti acids for after. Also my disastic recti has come back already, I know your stomach muscles split in pregnancy. But six weeks?? Should I mention it to the midwife?

OP posts:
IfYouWereARiverIdLearnToFloat · 09/05/2015 18:01

I would mention it to your midwife Cuppa - 6 weeks seems early for a diastases. How big is the gap?

I've had no full on cravings yet but a weird notion for lychees so I sat & ate a full tin the other night. Tonight I'm desperate for corned beef & potatoes and thats not something I usually eat.

CuppaSarah · 09/05/2015 18:31

It feels 15mm which is pretty significant for this early I thought. All the work I did to put it back together after dd feels a bit wasted Envy I don't know if I should be trying to keep the muscles together or let them go. I'm pretty sure I'll need to do more physio after this one to get it back as it is.

How funny with your cravings! I once heard pregnancy cravings are your bodies way of getting what things it's lacking in to your systems, so if that's the case we are free to indulge I'd say!

IfYouWereARiverIdLearnToFloat · 09/05/2015 18:41

Maybe ask for a referral to the women's health physio just now?

I'd heard that about cravings. Not going to fight it! Although I've gone off chocolate completely?? I'm a bit disappointed by that one.

Griffomais · 10/05/2015 07:33

I forced myself to eat yesterday and it did help - I just can't cope with smells but we were at MIL's for a birthday so lots of food and drink. I accepted a glass of wine (in a dark wine glass) when no one was looking I poured it out and replaced with water. I felt better after eating something. I must have been a bit weak from so long without food. I'll try and eat as much as I can today. Hope you're ok Cuppa. Everyone else with sickness, nausea etc its so tough but we will get through it, it's just so horrible when you're right in the middle of it. I've got my booking in appt on Tuesday anyone else got theirs this week?.x

NoArmaniNoPunani · 10/05/2015 08:10

I'm drinking mint and liquorice tea which seems to help the nausea, sounds disgusting but it's actually quite nice. The only other thing that helps me is constant snacking on nuts, crisps and chocolate, all things I rarely ate before.
My booking in appt is not until the end of the month. Hope I won't have to wait long for a scan after that.

Queazy · 10/05/2015 08:35

Liquorice and mint tea sounds nice! I'm not craving anything in particular yet - eating crap regularly tho - oops. I had to put maternity jeans on instead of my usual ones this morning. They were getting tight due to overzealous cake munching before pregnancy but the added bloating just makes them painful now! I don't have my booking in appointment for another 10 days or so. I don't think I can afford an early scan, but will see how we do.
Hope you all have as relaxing a Sunday as possible.

IfYouWereARiverIdLearnToFloat · 10/05/2015 08:36

NoArmani I'm eating liquorice too - I keep a bag in the house & one in the car so I can munch while driving at work. It seems to do the trick.

Griffomais I had my booking appt on Thursday last week. Good luck for yours.

CuppaSarah · 10/05/2015 11:46

My booking in appointment is a week on Thursday I'll be 8 weeks to the day. Sort of hoping the midwife takes my LMP date so I get a scan 3 weeks early, but I remember my midwife from last time, she's lovely and will listen to me about my dates. So I doubt I'll get the earlier one.

Liquorice and mint sounds really good, I've been on the peppermint tea which is helpful with sickness. Only 5-8 weeks till we're past the first trimester, it's not so bad right?! Right?!

Ladies struggling with nausea, I find that sucking on hard boiled sweets or tic tacs helps. Definitely something sneaky you can keep in your pocket, and if anyone asks its a throat sweet!

I have my booking in appointment this Friday. From my guesstimating I'll be 8+1, but haven't had a period in so long I'm hoping they'll offer me an ED scan. Should I ask for one any way??

CuppaSarah · 10/05/2015 17:33

I think if you haven't had a period in a long time they like to scan you asap to get an idea how far you really are. But it changes area by area. I'm sure if you ask they'll be happy to see if they can get it sorted.

The nausea has got me the last few days, I'm hungry all the time too.

I had my scan yesterday, a private one, we saw the heartbeat (there is only one in there thankfully) and apparently everything looks like it should at this stage, so I'm feeling relieved. Meassuring 7 weeks which is what I thought. When I saw the midwife last week she went from my last period, which puts me closer to 10 weeks, even though I told her that was wrong, so I will get a dating scan in a few weeks and will then need to go back for a second dating scan. It's a bit frustrating that they didn't listen to me, but will be nice to have the extra reassurance.

Tangoandcreditcards · 10/05/2015 21:22

I'm a bit worried that I can't get into see the GP for a referral until the 28th when I'll be 9 weeks. I'm not sure that'll allow enough time to get booking and scan sorted in time, I'm in a new area so not sure on the process.

I'm planning a private dating scan at 11 weeks because I want reassurance before I go on hols (From 11+3 to 12+4) but think I need my Nhs scan by 14 weeks (?) for nuchal measurements.

I can only get to the GP on a Thu when I WFH (hence the long wait for appt), maybe I should try to get a same-day appt this Thu? I just feel bad because it's not an "urgent" appt, but I'm keen to be "in the system" IYSWIM.

IfYouWereARiverIdLearnToFloat · 10/05/2015 22:08

I'd try & get a same day appt this Thursday Tango or at least ask to speak to GP on the phone. I think my GP arranged my consultant appt & 13 week scan but MW was confused as this isn't usual protocol but she said prob for the best as they struggle to get scan slots at times.

You'll still need booking appt with MW after you see GP & in my area they like to do it at 7/8 weeks.

OhHolyFuck · 10/05/2015 22:34

Sorry to put a downer on this thread but I'm worried that there's something going on, I've had a few days of light bleeding (bright red blood) so concerned bean isn't sticking....not sure what to do, back to the gp and ask to be referred to epau again or just wait it out?

CuppaSarah · 11/05/2015 05:58

OhHolyFuck get to the gp today, you need the reassurance. My sil bled a lot in early pregnancy, she was treated every time. Shes due in a couple weeks to a very healrhy boy. It's important you know what's going on.

Congratulations joey on the scan. Tango I would get a same day appointment, my surgery has the same awful system and same day appointments are rarely proper emergencies.

OP posts:
WonkyDonkBonk · 11/05/2015 07:29

OhHoly Go to the gp and get to the epu. This is exactly what they are there for. Get yourself checked out. Thinking of you.

Tango I'm not bothering with my gp. All they do is send a form off to the midwives. Go to the nhs website and you can find out how to self refer to the midwives yourself. Its quicker snd easier.

IfYouWereARiverIdLearnToFloat · 11/05/2015 08:21

OhHoly can you not phone the EPAS direct & book yourself in? I think it'd be better to go & get the reassurance today. Hope everything's okay.

Tangoandcreditcards · 11/05/2015 10:49

ohholy when I had bleeding (not this pg) I called NHS Direct (or whatever it is now) and they basically referred me to EPU, I went along for a scan and filled out a form that I'd been advised to attend by the call centre. I imagine (as with all these things) it varies by area but if you call 111 they might be able to tell you whether there is a drop in or self-referral process and bypass the GP. Hope you are doing OK Flowers

Thanks for your advice the rest of you, will deffo try and get referred sooner, maybe even refer myself: it's a new GP and it'll be a different hospital from last time so don't want to be at the mercy of systems I'm not practiced at negotiating!

OhHolyFuck · 11/05/2015 11:06

Thanks all, it's stopped again this morning (so just happened all over my hen weekend, maybe bean just has a sense of humour?!)

Will try and speak to someone today, at home on my own with both DSs though so don't know what to do if they say to go in for a scan today

ChandlersFarang · 11/05/2015 11:50

I read somewhere that you can have a bleed around the time that your (second?) period would be due - it could maybe have been that? Great that it has stopped SmileSmile

How was your hen weekend otherwise? X x
