Welcome, welcome, welcome to the 25th grads thread... celebrating the success of Just Shagging in getting us viroids upduffed!

For those that don't know, a 'viroid' is from the original JSing thread 1, where someone was trying to type ladies (in reference to all the JSing ladies), but their phone decided to call us all viroids instead!

The name stuck and we've been the JSing viroids ever since.

The thread we have graduated from is here in its 42nd outing. WARNING: they're all a bit kerazy not to mention randy!

There is also a Just Mumming thread in postnatal clubs here for once your babies come along, or to keep up with the graduated graduates!

There is also a private facebook group (so it doesn't give the game away in your news feed!)... if you want to join to see photos of new babies etc, just ask in-thread!

The stats sheet will be linked to by our stats hero La (can't do on iPad sorry!)

So, roll call below please, viroids!

It's a different cheaper website. Do you use mattress protector?

LaLaLaaaa · 06/04/2015 18:26

Mattress protector extra £10 so still cheaper than built in option. I'm always up for saving money, just want to make sure I'm not cutting off nose to spite face

Fattycow · 06/04/2015 18:35

We have bought a dead cheap mattress. It is safe, breaths, cover comes off. No pvc cover as I don't like the sweatiness either, but I'm putting on an extra muslin for absorbance of fluids.

LaLaLaaaa · 06/04/2015 18:41

Ok...I think cheaper one might be the winning option...

Pisghetti · 06/04/2015 19:20

If you have to buy the mattress protector, do you also need a mattress with a washable cover? Factor in the price at least one other mattress protector - you'll need an extra one if you need to change it in the middle of the night. For the Moses basket/pram carrycot I'm just sticking a folded muslin under her head/neck. I have mattress protectors in the cots. She not terribly sicky but does occasionally bring up a mouthful. We had a nappy malfunction earlier as MrP accidentally left a middle bit folded in. It wasn't the biggest poo but it escaped. Fortunately on me rather than a mattress Hmm

When we were researching disposables vs reusables (DP fancied the idea of reusables) we came across a life cycle analysis carried out by the environment agency. LCAs are an assessment of the true environmental cost of an item over its whole lifetime - raw material production, manufacturing, transport, use and disposal (I deal with them in work). The overall conclusion was that the impact of washing reusables (assuming an average efficiency washing machine, tumble drier, a certain number of days when they could be dried outside etc) meant there was no overall environmental benefit until they were used for a second child (or of course using preowned ones). That swung it for us - although I was already on the side of disposables. I find I have enough to do without dealing with buckets of shit in my kitchen. DP has Victorian plumbing and a septic tank so even flushable liners would be a no no (he can't use quilted toilet paper even).

Tee I did initially think your poo problems and the purchase of the pressure washer were related Grin

La pop a flannel on your list! I needed a cold flannel to the forehead both times.

God I didn't think about that pis! If I get desperate I could Karcher my arse! It's got plenty of attachments, I'm sure one could do the job! 'Buckets of shit in kitchen' is making me giggle.

That's no marinade........

batfish · 06/04/2015 19:54

la I guess if the cheaper option is a lot cheaper then it would be better than the other one but depends how much hassle it is and how much dosh we're talking. You could spend the savings on something else nice for baby Smile

I ended up getting some jeans from another shop, yay. Still feel like my thighs are trying to take over the world but I was somewhat cheered up by the fake pregnancy belly in the changing rooms that I got to try on Grin

Purpleball · 06/04/2015 20:01

Thanks Pis I feel better now. Buckets of shit in my kitchen is my problem with them as well as the hassle of regular washing.

We currently do a couple of loads once a week. I was thinking this might increase to a third load for baby clothes but not necessarily more regular washing. I could be being naive though Smile
I don't want to leave anything with poo on it lying about so maybe that means more regular washing.

If baby gets poo on a babygro, do I have to wash it separately or would you bung other baby clothes in too? Do you wash everything after taking it off? Or can they wear things more than once? Do they need clean clothes every day?

Oh god I've set my anxiety off about washing now Sad

Toast85 · 06/04/2015 20:08

Wow bat you have a funky maternity shop over there... That sounds hilarious.
I'm back to work after a week off which was filled with many paellas, cakes, icecreams, and a weekend of chocolate and got cross buns... Slightly nervous about putting on my uniform tomorrow.

Have scared myself stupid by reading local maternity services info leaflets on perineal tears this evening.. 4th degree wtf??!! Why oh why oh why??
Now frantically doing pelvic floor exercises (not sure if they help prevent tearing or not?) ShockConfusedShockConfusedShockConfused

teejayem · 06/04/2015 20:14

There's a 4th degree toast?!?!?

I didn't think it went that far. Literally or figuratively.

ZylaB · 06/04/2015 20:15

purple I don't want to upset you, but some days H will go through 4 or 5 sets of vest and sleep suit or outfit combinations :) we wash her stuff in with ours and just use the mild baby liquid for all of them (it smells nice!). I'll rinse them if they're covered in shite, then just put in the wash.

it's only cos she waits until we change her nappy, as they don't really leak, then she pisses all over herself and her clothes in the second we're not prepared for it, she thinks she's funny!

Fattycow · 06/04/2015 20:20

No buckets of shit are going to be anywhere near my kitchen! Then again, our washing machine isn't in the kitchen, it is in the attic. And the nappies won't go in the tumble drier either, they are all going onto the line.

tee, the image of you Karcher-ing your bum made me giggle a lot!

toast, I'm not sure that pelvic floor exercises help against tearing, as it is the skin that tears due to the pressure. I think massaging your perineum works better and not pushing when the midwife tells you not to push. Also, 4th degree is rare: if you tear, it most likely will not be to that extent!

RPopz · 06/04/2015 20:22

Minipopz doesn't wear clean clothes every day. I change them every other day unless he's sick/ wees/ poos on them. Tbh I could probably make a growie last longer than that but he has so many Shock I want to make sure he wears them all (prob a PFB thing). Poonamis usually just get through to the vest if you're lucky. I usually rinse the poo off and then bung it in with the rest. Sometimes it's just not worth it for the sake of a couple of quid and I bin them!! It's not necessarily just the baby that makes extra laundry... I had terrible night sweats for a few weeks after giving birth... Plus if you're bfing, milk gets everywhere. You'll be milking on bras and vest tops like nobodies business!

RPopz · 06/04/2015 20:25

I wash baby clothes seperately - again possibly PFB behaviour!! But yes, some days an outfit won't last an hour... Wink

Think if you were in obvious danger of that kind of tear they'd give you an episiotomy?

willywallace · 06/04/2015 20:41

I can't believe that's all the washing you have Purple. I have bucketloads. We mostly get through 2 outfits and one bodysuit per day (one for day, one for night). Sometimes we can wear the day one again if I use bibs but night one is always covered in vomit. Get through two or three sleeping bags a week too as they get sicky. And a million muslins.

I read that info too Pis. MiniWil had a poo accident today and I nearly chucked the leggings. Took me about ten minutes to sort them out. I realised I would not have been cut out for real nappies Grin . For baby poo things I soak in the sink before washing.

I had second degree tears. I reckon 4th degree ones must be pretty rare.

We don't have a mattress protector but have a washable cover. When she was a baby we put muslins under her head in case she puked. Poo would have to get through a nappy, pyjamas, sleeping bag and a sheet before hitting the mattress. Hasn't happened yet. Will probably get something when we take the nappy off at night though now I think about it.

LaLaLaaaa · 06/04/2015 20:42

Oh my god I love the fake pg belly in the changing room!!! That's fantastic!!

You've also convinced me to go with aldi's best now, if impact on environment isn't actually any different (poor environment!)

When you dress baby do they wear vest under sleep/body suit? I'm never sure.

I think I just had my first braxton hicks!!! Was standing up and bump went totally hard and felt like my skin was being stretched across. It was bit tingly. Now bumps gone soft again. Was that one? Dh was fascinated!

Baby is doing lots of movement - stretching, turning over. I can see belly move, it's fascinating!

Fattycow · 06/04/2015 20:54

Mine had a good wiggle earlier as well! It is so odd to see your belly moving on its own, isn't it?

ZylaB · 06/04/2015 20:55

la they say that generally a baby should wear one more layer than us, so if you're in a t shirt, they need a vest and top. H is mostly in short sleeved vests and a sleep suit at the moment :)

Purpleball · 06/04/2015 21:09

Thanks lovelies, I feel better now.

Wil how much washing did you do before you had children Smile

I bought some Fairy for washing baby clothes. I only use Ariel as I'm allergic to quite a few others. I should be ok with Fairy though so I think we will switch

Fattycow · 06/04/2015 21:23

I'd planned to just use our regular detergent for baby's clothes...

willywallace · 06/04/2015 21:27

When I say bodysuit I mean like a vest with poppers at the bottom La. Usually she wears one plus her dress or whatever and then I just use blankets. Think she gets a bit sweatier than most babies though because of the stuff underneath.

Bloody loads of washing even pre children Purple. MrWil refuses to wear anything at all more than once. He also dumps towels in a ball on the floor so they remain damp and then needs to get a fresh one every bloody time Angry .

deeplybaffled · 06/04/2015 21:37

batfish - i feel your maternity clothes shopping pain! Tried today in a fairly major northern city and the only shops that i found with a dedicated maternity section were h+m and new look, and both were obsessed with skinny and super skinny trousers. Why? I looked rubbish in them when i wasn't pregnant, and would like to assure the designers that i look even worse now...
can anyone recommend anywhere that sells maternity trousers for people with somewhat not unchunky calves and thighs? Pretty please? I don't want to look like a badly squeezed tube of toothpaste for the next x months.......

gaggiagirl · 06/04/2015 21:53

purple la I believe aldi nappies only start at size 3 so for newborn and size 2 you could try Asda own brand. I must say though that pampers are the fucking BEST. The new baby ones are so soft.
Morrisons nappies are excellent too and always on a 3 pack for £10 offer.
Pampers simply dry from size 3 and up are fantastic and available on amazon who will deliver monthly.
Stay the hell away from Naty nappies they are pure shite as are Sainsburys and tescos. Always buy them when they are on offer. Sign up to the big supermarkets parenting/baby clubs. You will get coupons and offers as well as a heads up to their baby events.
I genuinely did not spend that much on nappies in DDs 18m wearing them. Just shop smart. Spent a fucking fortune on pull-ups though but I've learned my lesson.

Purpleball · 06/04/2015 21:55

Deeply I got some online from Bon Prix as they do maternity in size 20

Mothercare have quite a selection in big branches, I don't think they are all skinny.

I've just ordered some maternity leggings off eBay. I also got a couple of maxi dresses on there too

willywallace · 06/04/2015 22:12

Aldi do size 1 and 2, I use them. And I love Tesco baby dry ones or whatever they're called in the green packets. Pampers are a rip off I reckon although they are soft.
