Welcome, welcome, welcome to the 25th grads thread... celebrating the success of Just Shagging in getting us viroids upduffed!

For those that don't know, a 'viroid' is from the original JSing thread 1, where someone was trying to type ladies (in reference to all the JSing ladies), but their phone decided to call us all viroids instead!

The name stuck and we've been the JSing viroids ever since.

The thread we have graduated from is here in its 42nd outing. WARNING: they're all a bit kerazy not to mention randy!

There is also a Just Mumming thread in postnatal clubs here for once your babies come along, or to keep up with the graduated graduates!

There is also a private facebook group (so it doesn't give the game away in your news feed!)... if you want to join to see photos of new babies etc, just ask in-thread!

The stats sheet will be linked to by our stats hero La (can't do on iPad sorry!)

So, roll call below please, viroids!

Oh and I won't be feeding my baby in the toilet! My sister fed in church during a wedding. No one knew and my niece was quiet for the whole thing!

couldntbebothered · 06/04/2015 10:07

I'll be using washable nappies from last baby, even with the additional washing (electric/water) costs I believe we saved money. And let's be realistic, the washing machine is on all the time anyway Wink. The thought of all those nappies in landfill is enough to convince me to use washables!

Also will be exclusively bf. And have a sling. Am I now a hippy mum?!

Past 37 wks now and seriously fed up, countdown to CS in a couple of weeks...

couldntbebothered · 06/04/2015 10:10

Oh by the way the flushable liners are suitable whatever brand of nappy you use, and you can buy in bulk online (check measurements as some you'll need to fold to fit neatly into nappy)

DulcetMoans · 06/04/2015 10:23

Also, from washing all the second hand ones I have, I have seen you can get A LOT in one wash! There is the storage of them before you wash them but I think it will be cheaper. Really though, it is the green thing that makes us want to do it. I don't mind if it's not cheaper, it's something I can (hopefully!) do to reduce our impact.

Just said to DH about supporting me to breast feed in public and he said 'I don't want you getting your baps out all over the place'. Bless him, he doesn't understand at all. I think we will be discussing this further!

Don't worry, not put off mini, nothing works for everyone but worth a try!

mountaingirl01 · 06/04/2015 10:28

dulcet the protest was probably me sitting in the road crying and stropping that I just want to get out of the city completely had a London meltdown this weekend too Flowers
I also do the replaying conversations thing, I always thought it was an alcohol related thing because I do it most after an evening with friends, but still replaying Friday night so it must just be an anxiety thing. I have definitely got more anxious in pregnancy and needy of dh.

I have a structured type sling that I bought from an nct sale last week (my first proper purchase! I chickened out on anything else as it still feels like I'm tempting fate) it's some sort of baby's r us carrier and was only £5 so I thought I may as well get it and then get another once I've done some research. I plan on using a sling as much as possible, rather than a pram, when babe is tiny. Mainly because a) it can be the weight lifting kick start to my getting fit again, b) I hate having no hands free. Being entirely selfish about this.

Cloth nappies (the new version) sound great, my godmother is a foster mum and swears by them, unfortunately like la I have a tiny house and no tumble dryer so thought of extra washing fills me with dread, we do have a lovely big garden though so maybe in the summer.

fatty tell me more about these cloth ties..I hate plastic clamps.

purple try a glass of prune juice followed by a glass of other nice fruit juice each morning, I find it helps.

After 2 days of proudly feeling I finally have a bump... I appear to have woken up looking entirely not pregnant again. Did I dream it all?
Sorry for mammoth post, I haven't read properly in a while and had to make notes!

RPopz · 06/04/2015 10:44

Good work on the discount Mamaroo kato! I saw one on display in Mamas and Papas... they look all spacey and epic Grin

We use Aldi nappies, they're great. I would've liked to try reusables but couldn't face the washing and drying... (No tumble drier).

Baby wearing is the wankiest phrase of all... I hate it.

LaLaLaaaa · 06/04/2015 10:44

Just had chat with dh and he's up for trying cloth ones. We are going to look into it but no decisions made yet. He's quite chilled about bf - 'getting baps out' did make me laugh though :) I really think men think you just flop boob out and feed, rather than the reality.

I don't think I'm a hippy but I do believe in listening to my body and trying to work with it. That's why I like the daisy birthing, plus bf etc. if someone can give me a solid scientific argument for why a method is better then I'll always listen. I found the delayed cord clamping stuff interesting.

But everyone is different and some of my friends just couldn't bf for whatever reason, or don't get on with slings and the like. I think whatever works for you and your baby.

I also believe in making my life as easy as possible, hence using snuzpod Grin which will make night feeds a bit easier hopefully.

LaLaLaaaa · 06/04/2015 10:45

You are all making me feel better about my anxiety, I feel a bit less like a freak now!

DulcetMoans · 06/04/2015 10:50

Oh mountain! That's exactly how mine ended too! 'I hate London', 'I just want to go home', 'why are we still here?!'. All through snotty tears. Won't be going back in a hurry!

Oh and my bump changes shape even now. It looks much bigger by the end of the day. Friend said it is the position of the baby so once it shuffles about in the day and pops it back out.

He does seem to think that's how it works la, but then can't explain how he's never seen anyone breast feeding in public.

Purpleball · 06/04/2015 11:28

Mine changes shape throughout the day and especially after I've eaten and its a food baby.

I think more fruit is the answer. Fruit juice is bad for blood sugar but I'll get some oranges. Hopefully they will do it.

I feel bad about the landfill now.

Thanks for the sling advice. I hate these new terms too...baby wearing and baby led weaning etc

I won't be breastfeeding in public until I've mastered doing it discreetly Smile

Fattycow · 06/04/2015 12:07

la, totsbots do keep for a second baby! One of my friends even has her third one in them now!

mountain, for a cord tie, you simply take 6 strings of embroidery yarn in whatever colours(s) you like of about 30 centimeter. Then you make a nice braid from that. Make sure the start and end are tied securely. You can sterilize it if you want, but you don't need to as it doesn't come into contact with an open wound. I made mine and then put it in a nice plastic ziplock bag with I stapled to my notes.
Once the baby is here, instead of putting a plastic clamp on the baby's end, they tie it off with your cord tie. A basic surgical knot is all that is needed and every doctor and midwife knows how to do one of those! Some might be a opposed to using your cord tie, but you could always ask for them to leave the stump a bit longer and you can put the cord tie on yourself and remove the clamp. Thankfully my midwife is perfectly fine with using the cord, she just requested that it is strong (hence the 6 strings plaited together).

Indigoblue2 · 06/04/2015 12:36

Dunno how I've escaped the constipation thing?! I've never been constipated in my entire life! Maybe it's to do with the fact I have three pieces of fruit with my breakfast and probably another three throughout the day...Blush

splodge77 · 06/04/2015 13:29

Hmm I've been thinking about doing some kind of reuse able/disposable nappy combo (ie use reusable when home but disposable when out & about) but £250 does sound a lot for the kit. Will have to do some more research. Re breast feeding, I found it nigh on impossible to be discreet as my other boob always leaked when I was feeding so I had to have one tit out for baby & the other bra cup stuffed with a flannel or something to catch the milk - not a great look but tbh my boobs seemed so unsexual that I didn't really care about showing them - they just had a job to do! I never got any weird looks or anything for wopping out me H cups. Maybe people were too afraid! Ha ha. Am loving this sunshine. Yey spring!!

couldntbebothered · 06/04/2015 13:47

As a rough idea buying mid range (10p a nappy) disposables you'd spend about £250 in the first year on nappies alone!

LaLaLaaaa · 06/04/2015 14:29

Fatty it says on their website that the nappies may not last to 2nd because absorbency reduces. I've had a look at little lamb ones and they're a bit cheaper . Going to carry on doing some research into this I think....

Lovely weather here! Been sitting in pub courtyard this afternoon. Just on bus home to eat chocolate and watch Suits Grin

Fattycow · 06/04/2015 14:42

The range of different ones you can get over here is quite a bit smaller, which has affected my choice of the nappies. Currently I just keep looking at how pretty they are and being curious how my little one will look with them on! Smile

teejayem · 06/04/2015 14:46

I couldn't honestly say I'm a hippy at all, I just dress like one. We've toyed with the idea of reusables, but I think without a tumble dryer it's going to be a bit of a sod for us, I have a washing line etc, but obviously it's seasonally limited and the washing airer isn't cat proof!!
I swear by lactulose purple but not sure if it will crank your sugars up? You have to drink a shitload (no pun intended) of water with it to make it work tho, and I'm finding that loads of water alone is actually helping things.
Mr Tee has just bought a pressure washer and is cleaning every square inch of the outside patio....
Wok up with the feeling of baby up in ribcage, didn't have a very good sleep either, oddly enough I had the busy anxious brain too, although I seem to keep bringing up things in my mind I've said or did YEARS ago that I'm not especially proud of and then lay awake with weird shameful feeling. Really odd. Think I need a bouncy yoga ball thing to try and get him to shift when does this, I think he's gone transverse again which is why it's so uncomfy, and the bloody brown spotting is back so I guess he's irritating my womble. Seeing midwife in a couple of days anyway so hopefully she can suggest something aside from head down bum up! Anything to move this uncomfta-bump.
I also think that my OH is a bit 'Flop out boob' willy nilly. I've gently sown the seed that I don't think I want a million people visiting in the first week or so, so I can establish BF, but I'm not sure he quite grasps how challenging it might be. I've explained in very simple terms that this shit doesn't come with an instruction manual, and even if it did, the baby won't have read it!! I do really need to get some nursing bras, but I really really dislike all the ones I've seen and I'm assuming I'm going to go up a size again when milk comes in??
Still dithering about slings. Might pop into town in the week to have a look, and then it's hospital bag packing, I've been checking a few bits in here and there over the last few weeks, but I want to get it nailed and then we don't have to worry. Mr tee is practicing fitting the car seat this afternoon, should be entertaining of nothing else if I can pull him away from the frigging pressure washer

teejayem · 06/04/2015 16:14

Also! For all summer-labouring viroids, I picked up a couple of These this week, they were less than a fiver and I think might be handy if the hospital is baking hot. I like to spritz myself in very diluted tea tree in the hot summer anyway, so I think I'll get good use out of them :)

LaLaLaaaa · 06/04/2015 16:15

The totbot ones are very pretty fatty! I was looking at them I boots today.

Just put up new bump photee. I am getting paranoid about how big I am - started wearing hair up to try to detract from double chin and feeling a bit fat and dumpy :(. Have always struggled with my weight so I'm finding this hard. Also everyone keeps saying how big I am which doesn't help. They are very surprised when I say I have 14 weeks to go!

I use fybogel purple - not nice tasting but it works.

Indigo - never constipated!?!?! So envious! I nearly broke my bum on wed.

LaLaLaaaa · 06/04/2015 16:17

Tee could you try doing some stretching exercises? We were taught in daisy to stretch arms above head, it lifts weight off baby and gives some relief. Also go on all fours and let baby hang like in hammock. That can encourage them to move too I think?

batfish · 06/04/2015 17:11

Well my first experience of maternity wear was a little soul destroying! There is hardly any choice here but I went to H&M who had a whole 1 pair of jeans. I am usually a size 12 and could only just squeeze my ass into a 16. And they were super skinny - I do not have the legs for those! So I left feeling like a candidate for Biggest Loser and I still have no idea what I'm going to wear when I visit the UK next week! Sad

RPopz · 06/04/2015 17:13

Have you looked at H&M online Bat? There's often plenty of discount codes to be had - and more choice. Their jeans are ridiculously skinny, I found that too. Tried Asos?

LaLaLaaaa · 06/04/2015 17:30

I found that with h&m too bat so you're not alone! I bought all my mat wear online from Asos and new look. I love my new look skinny jeans. Asos have fab mat leggings

LaLaLaaaa · 06/04/2015 17:50

Can you viroids please settle a debate we are having please? We are trying to buy a cot bed mattress.

I want one that obviously fits all safety specs etc.

Sprung
Breathable
Washable cover
PVC cover

I am favouring one that has PVC one side and cotton quilt the other. Fully breathable, washable cover, sprung. Has free PVC insert for cotton side that is removable.

Mr La has found cheaper one - sprung, breathable, washable cover. No PVC cover. So we would have to buy mattress protector to out on top.

I think his option would be fiddly and make more work for me taking cover on and off. Whereas mine it is built in and you just flip mattress, or you can insert/remove PVC layer

He says it's half the price and does same thing

Which would you go with?

willywallace · 06/04/2015 18:12

Why is it half the price? Can't just be down to the pvc thing? How much would the extra cover be? Yours sounds like a good option but I guess either would be fine. I don't have a pvc cover because I don't like them - think they're a bit sweaty. But the option of having a cotton side and a pvc side would be handy.

Tee you won't necessarily go up a bra size. You buy a bra and check you can fit your fist in to account for engorgement. Women in shop can show you how. I don't care what mine look like so just bought them in debenhams.

splodge don't breast pads soak the milk up from the other boob?
