Babies are now coming thick and fast... Let's see how many will come on this thread! Grin

Brixton a friend of mine recommended Curtains Made Simple to me www.curtainsmadesimple.co.uk/ She's used them for all the curtains in her house - you just choose a fabric and put the dimensions in and then they tell you how much it will be. I haven't used them myself yet but she seems really happy with them.

BrixtonBunny · 31/03/2015 11:58

Ooooh roastpots that sounds temptingly easy! Will investigate - I'm just so un-handy, now that we own our house I need to learn to rectify that and teach myself basic DIY skills. This has become painfully obvious as I've just asked the curtain-rail handyman to stay on and put up some shelves and rails for us in the kitchen... Something I'm sure I could have done myself, or DP could have done!

Gosh. The tilers seem to be chucking the old tiles off the roof and they are smashing everywhere in front and back garden. I hope they clean up after themselves... Hmm Good job we've done nothing to the gardens yet! Plus the noise might scare the resident fox away Wink

Just caught up!! Congratulations to everyone who's baby has arrived!! I'm 39 weeks and although had a BP scare over the weekend - it's still in there and seems dairy determined to remain in there. Last week had loads of BH, periody pains etc. Similar to other posters but this week nothing. Nothing at all. Feeling pretty fed up with general back pain and return of heartburn!!! Hope everyone is feeling okay today...

roastpots · 31/03/2015 12:22

RL I actually didn't find the stretch and sweep very painful at all - not much more than a smear test. The midwife had arranged for me to combine it with a visit to see the MLU so that there was gas and air if I needed it but I definitely didn't. I think it helped that my cervix was already starting to soften. I had said to her, please only do it if it is looking favourable already - so that's one option if you're not sure whether to have one or not...

Lauren82000 · 31/03/2015 12:32

Managed to get into town but I'm knackered now so will have to wait till later to get some bread and milk.

TheBooMonster · 31/03/2015 14:17

bit random, but I seem to recall we have some human resources / personal folk here... Someone from DH's work has contacted him with screen shots of a job that's being advertised internally. The position became empty back in January, and DH has been expressing an interest in the position ever since but it's never been opened up for applications. It opened 2 days after he went on paternity leave and closes 2 days before he gets back. The person who made him aware it's open to applications isn't anyone senior to him. Am I right in thinking the same rules apply for paternity leave as do for maternity leave and he should have been made aware of the position by his line manager? I'm about 95% sure they've intentionally waited for him to go on paternity leave to put the position up so that he wouldn't apply for it... DH and his parents think I'm wearing my conspiracy theory hat...

kismac · 31/03/2015 14:17

We bought sheets for the carry cot as we plan on using it as a mosses basket for first few months. Didn't see point in buying both as they basically do the same job.

Siarie · 31/03/2015 14:23

Brixton Getting curtains made is expensive, I had John Lewis make some in the old place I lived in. £300 a window, I think it came to £900 for the three windows but they did look amazing and were full length, lined. We picked the fabric and top style for them etc.

I miss those, we left them when we moved and now have blinds.

RL20 · 31/03/2015 14:58

Thanks roastpots. Unfortunately I can't compare anything to a smear test as I haven't had one yet Sad I'm 22 and should have one by the time I am 25. Which I think is absolutely ridiculous! I will remember to say that, about my cervix, if it comes to it!

Well I've drove down to the local shopping centre down the road with my mum, to collect my Asda 'Click and Collect' shopping, and had something to eat. We must have only been a couple of hours but I'm shattered!
Had some definite fanny daggers whilst walking around, and have been getting back ache the past couple of days too. I just want to go back to bed now, can't even fathom the idea of driving home and having to put food shopping away

smogsville · 31/03/2015 15:03

Daholster if you're a bad mother for wanting a rest then I'm a really crap one and embracing it fully. I think I must lack the duty gene. Yes on clumsiness too. I usually drink a glass of water by pouring half of it down my front. At least your wet knickers aren't wet bc you weed in them! BlushBlushBlush

Wind totally horrifying here.

What does the plug look like? I've had small but v noticeable little blobs of what looks like CM last couple of days when I've got up in morning to use loo. Could be just noticing it bc I've been wearing black knickers rather than white though (clutching at straws)? No other signs of early anything TOUCH WOOD.

Oh god just read about plug regeneration I hope mine does that, now terrified baby going to come early while my mum's in Antigua!

Brixton - I'd try John Lewis for curtains, we got two sets of ready made (albeit for regular sash windows) from there and have been happy with them. My DH is v handy whereas I don't know a screw from a nail so I don't think it's shocking that you can't do anything yourself. You seem to be a good cook, I think that's more than enough of a contribution.

Glad to hear it Skyra.

RL cot isn't set up in baby's room yet it's still in loft but baby clothes are in appropriate drawers now that DD has moved into her new room with new wardrobe as baby will be in Moses basket with us for first few weeks if not first three months. Might get DH to do it on Good Friday if he has his amenable face on. If not I'll dangle a chauffeured trip to his fave gastropub.

Don't know about the 'rules' re job postings Boo but it does sound odd that his line manager wouldn't mention it to him.

Siarie how are you feeling?

BrixtonBunny · 31/03/2015 15:10

Eugh. Just walked down the road and back to get some cash out, and every step is uncomfortable - baby's head is pressing in bladder, I'm waddling, etc. I know walking is supposed to be really important in late pregnancy to get baby moving though! Argh.

Will check out JL for curtains, good idea.

Smog I'm also planning on baby being in the Moses basket for around 3 months - providing he doesn't rapidly grow out of it sooner! My main reason for getting the Moses basket was because I'm still trying to put off using the cot that one of other half's relatives has given us... One I really really don't get on with (she's an awful person and is making me feel angry just talking about her!). I did post about the whole background situation on here a good few threads back. I know he will have to go in that one eventually, I just can't get over the idea Angry. Would much rather skint myself and buy one for him. But apparently that's not a possibility in other half's eyes Angry. Anyway...

Quick question; when did any of you start drinking raspberry leaf tea? I know it's not going to magically make me go into labour overnight (well I hope not, I'm only 37+1!) but I'm a bit nervous of it!
And which is the best one to get?

LittleGreyCatwithapinkcollar · 31/03/2015 15:32

RL I've been on clipper raspberry leaf tea since about 35 weeks, and 39 weeks today. I like the taste too, and hopefully it's doing something but no idea if it is! I've had more bh since I started it but that's probably just to do with getting more pregnant!!

TheBooMonster · 31/03/2015 15:45

rl I was drinking it from about 35 weeks, I was induced at 37 and my labour was pretty fast but I don't know how much of that was because of the rlt and how much is my interesting genetics... It's the clipper stuff I have, smells a bit like jelly!

Hidingthefear · 31/03/2015 15:48

Yea im in Bury cavetroll born and bread :D went to school here which is where i met DH. Also re the bra's i'm usually a size 10 but have found that I had to get a Large or XL in the asda body tops because my boobs were trying to spill out the sides. better than being squished and uncomfy

Yea defo give them a try mswibble, if you park in the BHS multi story car park the shop is on the corner as you come out of BHS so no walking :P it's called "perfect fit" and they were lovely. this is their website if you want a nosey perfect fit
they didn't have a huge selection but I only want white black and possibly nude anyway. they're not the sexiest things after all lol

congrats gherkin!! glad to hear you're both doing well after all that adventure.

38 week appointment today. apparently head is nice and low although she didn't say if engaged at all or not. growing on the same curve and estimated to be 8lbs 2oz if i had him on my due date (obviously only a guess, but looks like the family sweepstake means everyone is miles off as they's all had guesses from between 5lbs8 and 7lbs3 (appart from one person whose gone for 8lb8 which could be a good guess at this rate lol)

FiRaffe · 31/03/2015 15:54

Day has been mad at work, last day of the financial year has kept us busy.

Really windy here, keeps sounding like something will fall down!

We've got the moses basket in our room with a clean sheet etc then a piece of plastic sheet over it to keep it clean. The cot is being ordered for delivery once i'm off next week.

smogsville · 31/03/2015 16:02

RL do you actually hate the cot itself? If not maybe think of it as one in the eye to her that you're getting use out of something that was once hers?

In quite a jolly mood as have just organised for local charity to collect our old double divan bed base next week. Is currently piled up in nursery. Used to be in spare room but that has now been given to DD and unfortunately the bases are too big and rigid to shove up into the loft. At least this way someone will get some use out of them (and we don't have to pay anyone to take them away!).

Hidingthefear · 31/03/2015 16:10

oops hadn't realised I wasn't up to date when I posted.

brixton not sure if you have one near you but Dunelm might do curtains. We got made to measure blinds in every room from them and they came and measured and quoted for free. we got vertical black out blinds for all rooms and a roller blind for bathroom and i love them.

for crib I bought a normal cot sized terry mattress protector off eBay and a sheet. The ones for the Chicco next2me crib were expensive and i'll use them when he moves into his cot. We haven't even got the bedside crib out of the box though. We have no room for it so it's not going in our room until he's here. Just using the pram carry cot for sleeping downstairs.

gotta pick DH up from work and then go to his grans for tea and i so cba ciz i feel like i'll puke if i move, and i really don't want cheese pie for tea :( moan moan moan

RL20 · 31/03/2015 16:24

Thanks LittleGreyCat and Boo.
I'll grab some of the Clipper ones then. If it's anything like drinking green tea then I'll be fine as I used to live on that stuff anyway!
Is there a certain limit like one a day or something? Or not even that?

Glad your appointment went well Hiding. Sounds like a nice weight. Obviously as they say on here it's just a 'guesstimate' but surely it's based on something? Who knows!
I can't wait for my appointment tomorrow.

FiRaffe I can't believe you're still working! Well done you. It seems like an age ago that I was at work now! I think it's been about 4 weeks but I can't remember Blush.

Smog no it's just a standard white cot, nothing to hate about the product itself, just where it's come from Angry.
I see where your coming from though. I do need to get over it.

Well due to boredom I have added a few things to the basket on the Mothercare app. No idea whether to actually click but or not Hmm
There is a teddy that's on sale on there and has been for a while, but isn't in my local Mothercare. Not a necessity but is cheapConfused and also a Baby Record Book which I've wanted for ages. Do I, don't i.....

EbwyIsUpTheDuff · 31/03/2015 16:24

wow I haven't been able to get here for a few days (my phone doesn't like mumsnet!) so I missed all this.

For those who think the dad won't do nappies, tell them that back in the sexist 1970's my rugby-playing, ex-coal-miner, diy-er, extremely masculine dad changed my nappies between tasks like "building the garage" and "knocking down a wall to make 2 rooms into one" AND pushed the pram in public. If he did it then, they're out of excuses 40 years later!

I'm flapping because we don't have a moses basket... thought the carry cot off the pram would be enough but the sides aren't stiff enough.
don't really want to leave her in the hallway on the buggy for the first year's naps.

RL20 · 31/03/2015 16:24

*buy

RL20 · 31/03/2015 16:31

Ebwy I bought our Moses basket in the Asda baby event a couple of months ago, complete with bedding for £20. Usual price is £27. We had bought a Moses basket with the stand from a charity shop a few days before so will be using that stand as it fits perfectly.
It's this one...
Engines George--Google Base--Moses Baskets & Stands-_-Kinder Valley Tiny Ted Moses Basket&istCompanyId=71f4ae42-94c5-4821-aa58-05eff6da2486&istItemId=wlrmxmpt&istBid=tztx
but comes without the stand.

I've just searched 'Moses basket' in the search bar and they stock quite a few, including seperate stands.
The prices aren't bad!

kismac · 31/03/2015 16:33

We're going to have the carry cot sat inside the cot bed rather than attached to the pram.

solstice930 · 31/03/2015 16:38

For raspberry leaf tea my midwife suggested one cup a day for a week, then two cups a day for another week, then three a day. I still just do the two a day, I reckon that's fine.

EbwyIsUpTheDuff · 31/03/2015 16:46

Phil thinks her chair lies flat enough for naps... not sure. Can always send him out to smyth's toys to get one if I feel the need once we're home.

said chair is currently sat more-or-less upright, so youngest child thinks it's for him (he is under the weight limit, but not a habit we want him to get!).. can see him trying to turf her out so he can use it!
