Oooh, bradders what sort if things do you make in your slow cooker and just how much less gagging is involved compared with 'normal' cooking? Am currently dithering over getting one - v tempted but worried it'll end up as just something else gathering dust in the kitchen I may have form so convincing DP could be tricky

We also managed to keep DD in her RF group 0+ car seat until ~18 months, when she hit the 13 kg weight limit and her eyes/ears approached top of seat. Just checked DDs growth chart out of curiosity and at 15 mo a 13 kg child would be between 98 and 99.6 centiles, so hopefully most of the current/'old' group 0+ seats would take most babies to 15 mo?

aberjen · 04/04/2015 13:24

Oh FFS, faffing, not gagging!!

Aberjen I like my slow cooker - admittedly use it more in winter but it's lovely coming home from work and smelling the food when you get in from work!! I do fall into the trap of doing the same things in it though so been looking at a few older threads for ideas.
Currently making a big batch of hotpot and i do steak and ale pie, chilli etc which I will do between now and due date. Also planning on making cottage pies, pasta sauces and a friend from work has given me a recipe for pea and ham soup she makes in her slow cooker :)

applecore0317 · 04/04/2015 15:00

Another one who is a slow cooker fan, got a joint of pork in it as I type, doing pulled pork for dinner :) other things we make are casseroles, stews, soups, curries, bolognaise, chilli, beef bourginon, cock au vin etc love it, bung all the ingredients in and get on with other stuff :)

Chookford · 04/04/2015 16:30

Afternoon ladies

Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend..

tits glad your trace was reassuring..

kitty I remember that pain from BF it is really sore.. Put some savlon on there that may ease it slightly!

lina I'm the same I'm having thrush over and over again.. In the end my midwife rang my gp and told them to leave a prescription for me at reception for canesten cream and pessarys which others have said are a god send.. I hope you can get some relief soon!

Hope you all enjoy your Easter!! Smile

BeanCalledPickle · 04/04/2015 16:49

Whilst I admire the batch cooking may I recommend these guys www.cookfood.net

They do gourmet ready meals which are bloody lovely. Free delivery if you order lots. And 10pc off if you are a new mum. Expensive but totally totally worth it

longestlurkerever · 04/04/2015 17:27

Hello everyone. Just back from a week of fun with dd in norfolk before we become a family of four. Did I miss much?

Thanks for the info re car seats. I had missed that. I did move dd out of her group 0 at just over a year but I got an erf car seat which she has only just grown out of at 3.5. I had to order it from sweden but think they are easier to find now. Some are bigger still but when I bought it it needed to fit into a ford ka.

Cockbollocks · 04/04/2015 18:26

Hi. Unfortunately my tummy bug set off contractions yesterday so spent a lovely night in the delivery suite being monitored. Home now and resting hopefully all drama over Grin

Re car seat info, I just wanted to point out the new legislation is running alongside the old at the moment so people don't need to panic if they already have a car seat or are unable to get a new type.

The government info also states that the old way is safe, new way is safer!

What I dont understand is why they still allow boosters when they are no use and offer no side protection. Hmm

I am very impressed by all your batch cooking!!!! I tend to wing it when the baby is here!!!!

d0ttyne11 · 04/04/2015 18:33

Ohh I'm planning a HUGE batch cook session once I finish work (only 6 days in the office left then goodbye commute to work 'til may 2016 - yikes!!)

So far Sausage rolls, lasagne & chilli all on the menu but seeking more inspiration... Ohh portions of smoked mackerel pate also on the list (: so easy lunch or dinner options to supplement. I love a batch cooking session Smile

We have put Isofix and car seat (cabriofix) in the car already. Both to practice a bit but also as we have come away for the weekend and thought it would be for the best that we were prepared - just in case of a (surprise!) early arrival.

How's everyone else doing? Anyone noticing the link between chocolate and heartburn (or like me, just trying to ignore it or dilute the effects with tonic water!?) x

Turquoisetamborine · 04/04/2015 18:51

Cock glad your contractions stopped. What did you think of the food? I found it fine at breakfast but very poor at lunch and teatime. We are currently bringing my mam a meal into hospital once a day so she can get some goodness into her. Thought James Martin did some form of reform for hospital meals??

Car seats- my son was only 19lb at 12 months so we kept him in rear facing without problem til 18 months although I certainly didn't carry him around in it up to that point!

I can't bring myself to batch cook. I'm planning to be more strict with being able to put the baby down in a bouncer so I can cook or use a sling. My dad tends to deliver me either a frittata, homemade soup or a pie most weekdays anyway so sure that will continue, bless him.

aberjen get a slow cooker owner to cook something for you in one to taste so you can see if you like it. I don't love them as I find the food over stewed but some people love them. H complained about everything I cooked in mine so we chucked it and I'm normally a really good cook. My most successful recipes were porridge, pease pudding and rice pudding.

I only ate toast as felt pretty yuk. However the food at my hospital is pretty ok, not amazing but fine and I Always think food you haven't had to cook tastes a bit better!

Snooky17 · 04/04/2015 20:03

Be interesting to see if the new car seat laws are policed, see far too many people with kids not in car seats or even seat belts in some cases, really does pee me off when I see that. Need to read back through the posts have a proper catch up

applecore0317 · 04/04/2015 20:08

glad the contractions have stopped cock must have been pretty scary for you

I used to work as a ward hostess at my local hospital years ago now, and was made to go along to a tasting session one day... Confused mash and beans is my got to when it comes to hospital food lol

KittyVonCatsington · 04/04/2015 20:30

Boo to contractions Cock -glad Baby is staying put for now!
V impressed with the batch cooking preparations ladies!! Will try and follow suit.

My nip still hurts like hell but I think I am healing. Ibuprofen gel has been a godsend!! Is this how sore nips can get from breastfeeding?!?! I can see why some women can't continue BF with the pain-it's been all-encompassing Easter Sad

Hope Norfolk was ace longest!!

Cockbollocks · 04/04/2015 20:38

I did post yesterday kitty but it vanished! maybe get a nipple shield to allow it to heal fully?

KittyVonCatsington · 04/04/2015 21:05

Thanks Cock-good idea. I'll need them anyway! How are you feeling?

Cockbollocks · 04/04/2015 21:11

Much better thank you, glad they didn't have to deliver bubba after all.

Not so glad they took off all my carefully applied nail varnish in case I went into theatre!!!

Titsalinabumsquash · 04/04/2015 21:36

Cock my DS2 was born after a 24hr vomiting bug at 36 weeks, no clue I was in labour though, luckily I was there on the ward for iv fluids, I was just walking out the ward after being discharged when my waters broke all over the reception. BlushGrin

I'm glad it settled down for you and baby is still safe and sound on the inside Smile

Evening Ladies

cockbollocks glad that things have settled down and you get more time to bake your LO... Easter Smile

d0ttyne11 I had terrible heartburn after gobbling several fistfuls of Malteasers earlier. I dont want there to be a link! Chocolate is the only vice I have left Easter Sad

I also have big plans for batch cooking in my slow cooker when mat leave starts in 4 weeks (eeeeee!) I'm thinking spag bol, beef stew, moroccan tagine, beef and ale pie innards..... better make some room in the freezer.

After a couple of quiet days (which worried me) little bean has had a mighty wriggler of a day (which now also worries me). I've also had a bunch of Braxton Hicks and a period this afternoon where I felt all anxious and tearful for no reason...

Any ideas about WTF is going on oh wise Maysters??

Happy Easter lovelies

piglet81 · 04/04/2015 23:52

Twinkle, I've been a tearful mess too! Am just blaming everything on the hormones these days. Hope you're OK.

Sorry to hear some of you have been having a hard time and hope things get better. Glad to hear everything settled down for you cock - must have been alarming.

Am staying at my parents' tonight and looking at photo albums from when I was born. Some funny pics in there!

Happy Easter to those celebrating Smile

KittyVonCatsington · 05/04/2015 06:56

Happy Easter Ladies Easter Grin

I've not had any Braxton Hicks for a few weeks now but have been very emotional twinkle - one thing that has changed is m white CM has increased recently. Maybe a sign of body preparing? Who knows!
piglet how cute looking at old photos! MIL brought round some of DH's babygros from when he was a baby-a very cute sentiment but they are made out of a very itchy old flannel type material and she expects me to put Baby in them Easter Confused I will give it a go but think they are better off as a keepsake myself!
So happy Baby didn't make an early appearance Cock but even better that you are feeling well again. These Babies like to put us through the rounds!!
I hope
You can all have a relaxing day Maysters xx

gingerfluffball · 05/04/2015 09:55

Just managed to see the photos of Emily plinky, she is gorgeous! Makes it feel very real that there is a real little baby inside all these bumps!

twinkle I had a bit of a weird day yesterday too, felt sick and got recurrent sore crampy pains across the underneath of my bump, then started getting braxton hicks with them. Couldn't get comfy at all and was quite grumpy too. On and off all day and the little one was a bit quiet. With hindsight I suppose it would have been sensible to get some reassurance but everything is fine today, the normal wriggles are back. It settled a bit with a walk and some paracetamol too. Apparently sore braxton hicks can be a sign of 'pre-labour' where your body is just gearing up weeks or days before the main event. I'm sure it will be weeks as 35+5 atm so don't want him arriving just yet! Anyone else had this type of thing recently or in previous pregnancies? Made both me and DH feel like labour is actually a bit of an imminent prospect!

Hope everyone is having a lovely (hopefully lazy) Easter Sunday. Flowers

SmileyScooby · 05/04/2015 10:13

Hey all, have actually been sleeping ok past couple of days, and last night I think I managed to sleep for 5 hours straight!! Little Man is a bit quiet this morning but he was a busy little one last couple of days so will see what happens.
Glad that baby is still cooking Cock

We've also got a slow cooker which I use occasionally, problem is that me and hubby used to both eat at work and just have a snack tea for easiness. But as I'm going to be home am also thinking about getting some foil containers and doing some batch cooking.

Kitty hope your nip is less sore now, you poor thing! Why not make the babygrows into one of those babygrow teddies (just search babygrow teddy online and look at images) that I keep seeing people post online? Could then be given to Kitlet as a pressie? Although based on what you've said about your MIL not sure how she'd take it if you started cutting them up....

Who do I pm re fb group?

Enjoying a quiet bank holiday weekend with hubby, we've cleared out some rubbish from what will be the nursery and plan is to do a bit more today.

Have a lovely Easter Sunday everyone and enjoy the chocolate!! Grin
