Argh - *your mum (in ref to turquoise!)

Justyouwaitandsee · 02/04/2015 06:38

Doh - and last day (must get better at proofreading now baby brain is eating my braincells!!)

Blondie87 · 02/04/2015 06:38

Shiny 'Good Wife' is one of the best series I've ever seen! So good.

Bean what a scary experience, I'm glad to hear you're ok. Thankfully you have the long weekend to rest.

I keep getting period type pain on and off in my lower abdomen/thighs/lower back. Is this Braxton Hicks? Usually last a few minutes a couple of times a day. Doesn't feel like I'm 'contracting' in the literal sense of the word but bump goes hard.
Slept so much yesterday I've slept rubbish last night- dreamt I was attacked by a fox!

Titsalinabumsquash · 02/04/2015 06:42

Breaking Bad is very good but you do gave to give it a chance, it's a slow grower but then once you're hooked, you're hooked.

We're coming book geeks here so we're really into SHIELD, Gotham and The Flash but non geeky series we're also really enjoying is Forever.

Modern Family is great for dipping in and out of, the humour is very easy and fun if you don't fancy anything heavy.

Hunger games are fantastic books, way better than the films (which I thought were good!) but isn't that always the way?

Robert Galbraith's (aka J.K Rowling) books are good, you'll end up really caring about the main character if you're anything like me, and although you can tell it's the same author, the story is so different it's really worth a go.

Thanks everyone for recommendations, keep them coming! Going to try Modern Family and definitely the Hunger Games books in the meantime. Haven't seen the HG films so totally oblivious to the storyline and I like a good series to get stuck into.

Holding out for GoT in a few weeks although have read the current books and worried the TV show will be racing ahead in terms of plot! Shock

applecore0317 · 02/04/2015 07:33

ginger GOT tv is moving away from some of the stuff in the books because of so many people posting spoilers online and being smug about knowing whats coming up. They want there to still be some elements of surprise apparently.

My brother was telling me about it, although I may be misquoting slightly

Turquoisetamborine · 02/04/2015 07:59

Tv series I enjoy- The Following, The Blacklist, Fortitude. All quite dark and a bit scary at times. I don't like fantasy type series like Game of Thrones. If anyone has any similar recommendations that would be great. I like crime/thriller type stuff. We have full sky package plus Netflix.

I've become really bad at reading books, I just don't seem to have the time except on holiday.
Blondie yes they sound like braxton hicks.
Bean how scary. Did you get checked over by a doctor in the end?
Just yes the jumbled texts are a joy. You realise how much you appreciate the little things.

I'm in my cosy premier inn bed waiting for the boys to wake up so we can go for breakfast. I've been hungry from about 11 last night! We went to a Jamie's Italian last night and I ordered my usual small nibbles to start then a small version of the main and it didn't touch the sides!! This baby likes to eat. Anyone else so hungry?? H says we did 13000 steps yesterday walking round york so no wonder I'm hungry.
Having a more relaxing day today with lots of eating hopefully.
Have a good day ladies.

KittyVonCatsington · 02/04/2015 08:06

bean sorry you had your scare-but glad you are ok

So happy about your mum turquoise-you have been very strong to get through thisFlowers Star

Hooray for the last day teachers!!! I lucky and finished last week as our school holidays started then (school is in Kent if that makes a difference?!) and I can tell you-maternity leave is awesome Easter Grin
Had a bit of a 'boob' last night pun intended! as I've been getting dry bits of colostrum on my nips but last night my nightie must have caught on a bit and 'ripped' it off. My nips still hurt Easter Sad a sign of things to come?!?!

shinyhappyone · 02/04/2015 08:31

Ouch kitty! I've been getting the same stuff but thankfully not ripped any off yet!
Recommendations are amazing. Have read all the game of thrones but only seen a few eps so might get back in to that. Love the Good Wife too - watched it from day 1 and it's well worth it!
Think my fave series of all time is the west wing. It's just brilliant!
Never seen greys anatomy but heard great things so might give that one a go.
Authors I love are Kate Morton, rosamund lupton, jojo moyes, Phillippa Gregory, Joanne harris and Audrey niffenegger. The hunger games books 1 and 2 are excellent and 3 is worth persevering with. Girl with the dragon tattoo books are excellent though haven't seen the films.
Have a good day all. It's sunny here. Hope it is where you are xx

BeanCalledPickle · 02/04/2015 08:57

Thanks all. No need for doctor as felt fine once out of the smog. Well actually I felt rotten but then I had a piece of cake and now I'm good:-)

Building shut today with no remote access. So free day off. No idea what to do with myself! Doesn't bode well for actual maternity leave. Which if they can't repair the electrics in time may have just started!

Mslad · 02/04/2015 09:20

bean evacuating the building yesterday sounds awful! Although early enforced maternity leave could be a great bonus! Fingers crossed!

Another recommendation here for the good wife, I just started it and am hooked already, interesting but not heavy.

Also another one with baby still breach (33+ 3) I was under the impression from my mw that the attempt to turn the baby was compulsory? I would love her to turn, but that procedure sounds a bit Hmm

Is anybody putting a music playlist together for labour? If so, are you going slow & mellow to relax you, or upbeat to keep your energy up? Any suggestions?

Chookford · 02/04/2015 09:21

Morning ladies

I watched first series of GOT then stopped when Drogo died as I loved him! ?? Breaking bad took me a while to get into but was very good and worth the effort! The other to series I love is Elementary with Jonny Lee Miller as Sherlock Holmes, it's great! modern Family is a must in my house we love it for light entertainment! Books I'll read anything.. That is my passion so I have a kindle full and raring to go!

First day of mat leave today, it's all getting very real now... my dd is off school though for 2weeks so I will have plenty to keep me busy!

Hope everyone has a lovely day!

Morning all!!!

Yay to all the last days of work, enjoy them and get home quickly ;) Now the fun begins!!

Ok, TV shows and books.

  • Game of Thrones is brilliant, but can see how it is difficult to get into.
  • The Killing.....turquoise if you like crime, check this out!
  • True Blood....it's kinda sexy lol
  • The L Word
  • Friends is a fail safe option
  • One Tree Hill....i'm a big fan lol
  • Better Call Saul is brilliant
  • Orange is the New Black
  • American Horror Story - HOW could i forget that! I love my horror though!

Ouch kitty the boob story made me squeal, i can imagine the pain as i got my nipple pierced when i was younger and it used to always get caught on things lol

blondie I get braxton hicks quite a lot, tends to be after i eat, or if i need to pee, or if i move too suddenly! Its uncomfortable but not painful and i get period type pains on and off throughout the day too!

apple i can completely understand why they want to keep a closer eye on you, did you have the stitch and will you be getting it removed at 36 weeks?

cuphat · 02/04/2015 10:13

Mslad, the ecv is definitely not compulsory. DD was breech (only discovered at 38 weeks) and I refused an ecv. I'd read up on it and they also gave me information on it. The stats were not good; the success rate was low (especially as late on as I was) and it's risky and can end in EMCS. They were fine with my decision (although they had looked up when the next available slot was and it was the day before my due date which would have been too late anyway!).

I went for an ELCS (which I really didn't want) and had a very positive experience. I may have been lucky, but I had no pain (I just took paracetamol and ibuprofen regularly) and the section itself was calm and relaxed. I was discharged after a day and a half and we went out for our first (very short!) walk with baby on the same day!

Glad you're ok, bean.

cuphat · 02/04/2015 10:24

Oh and I loved Breaking Bad. In theory it's not my thing at all, but it's one of my favourite series ever (along with Lost, which I probably wouldn't have enjoyed just watching as normal but all the mystery and theory discussions on forums [there was so much hidden stuff etc] made it amazing). I'm not keen on Game of Thrones at all. I'm up to date on it as I felt I'd invested too much time in it to just give up but I didn't enjoy watching it!

KittyVonCatsington · 02/04/2015 10:30

Some excellent tips for series-thank God I have Amazon Prime Easter Grin

Have rubbed sudocrem on my boob and putting to use one of my already-bought nipple pads hee hee!
Sorry to hear of the breech babies-hoping hey decide to get into action stations soon.

Sunshinesaz86 · 02/04/2015 10:35

Oh leanne me and dp both love One Tree Hill so cheesy but so good, and better call Saul. After all this talk I'm just watching prison breaks first episode again as it was so awesome but fear it'll end up me being a massive couch potato! Grin

cuphat · 02/04/2015 10:41

Ooh yes I'm loving Better Call Saul too. I wasn't expecting much from it so I've been very pleasantly surprised.

I enjoyed the first series of Prison Break but my DH went off it during the second series and we stopped watching it. I would have carried on myself but I forgot!

applecore0317 · 02/04/2015 10:53

leanne I've been lucky in that I have avoided having the stitch. Progesterone pessaries and rest are what have kept my cervix from softening and shortening further than it did :) Its shortening again now but not to what it waa thankfully :)

leanne963 · 02/04/2015 11:38

sunshine I love OTH, so cheesy but always makes me cry! #leyton4life lol

cuphat I was the same, I wasn't expecting to be interested in Saul but you really feel for poor Jimmy! Can't get a break!

apple aww that's good! Just take care and im sure your body will keep her in til she is ready :)

OMG my friend from America who is coming to stay with us in July (I think I mentioned this a while ago How in was worried about having her and her husband stay while we have a newborn) but she ended up buying lots of stuff from my wishlist she got the angel care mat that goes under the babies mattress and a monitor and bibs and blankets! She spent so much i am overwhelmed, has anyone else used these?!

Shiny - glad baby is deciding to stay put. Fingers crossed it's just a false alarm :)

bean Must of been scary experience - glad you're OK :(

turquoise Really glad to hear your mum is doing better. Must be a huge relief :)

I had a Category 3 CS which is as close to a ELCS as I'm going to get. I'm now 2 weeks post op and I'm up and about. Only real niggles left post op are no lifting and sometimes getting out of bed can be painful. Coughing, sneezing, laughing etc hurt for the first few days but it does get better. Sensitivity around my stomach and incision site is slowly coming back too. Only drawback so far as been popping an internal stitch when sneezing (yawch!) and I have a UTI (likely from catheter) so I've been prescribed antibiotics.

Love the TV show suggestions :) My favs - Modern Family, Orange is the New Black, House of Cards, It's only sunny in Philadelphia, Don't Trust the Bitch in Apartment 23 :)

plinkyplonks · 02/04/2015 13:11

For those of you who asked (I'm rubbish at keeping up with anything at the mo), fingers crossed you will be able to see these images :) Emily's still in hospital, we had a bit of a set back with her feeding but fingers crossed she will be home next week - www.mumsnet.com/Profile?nick=plinkyplonks&photos=p

leanne963 · 02/04/2015 13:46
