mammyjo · 08/11/2006 11:19

I work with children and my dissertation is on siblings. Not quite sure exactly what focus but will discover that later as I work my way through all the literature I have got!

muminamini · 08/11/2006 11:20

Oh AngeG - you have just reminded me of my husbands favourite tale of my first Pregnancy....

DH got a new job and with it the promise of a new company car - I was so excited - we had not had a "New" car before and it was to be a black, new shape Renault Megane (wierd)....

I eagerly awaited DH's return home and when he pulled up it was in a sea green "old style" 51 plate Megane (perfectly nice car) and I was devastated...apparently someone had left and so he had to have their car first before he got a new one in about another years time.

I was gutted and stood sobbing my eyes out and uttered the now immortal line of "But I wanted a shaking that ass car!".

I was inconsolable - definatley the hormones hun - one day you will be able to look back and laugh - hope they get their act sorted out soon at the garage

xx

mammyjo · 08/11/2006 11:23

Hi Charli, and welcome to the best thread on here!
Well, I tried a number of shops for a swimming cossy for dd and to no avai. I will look at the ones at the leisure centre, but I am feeling stingy and just know they wil be expensive!

Feeling cross with dh again - what was going to be a small group for lunch in December has now turned in to 11 adults and 6 children. Where are they going to sit and what are they going to eat off!!! Men DO NOT THINK!!!!!

Sorry.

Bramshott · 08/11/2006 13:51

Grrr - feeling now as the midwife has told me that I don't get access to NHS ante-natal classes as I'm going to a hospital outside area. Now that's something she didn't tell me when she was encouraging me to go to that hospital, and there are good medical reasons why I am going there so it probably wouldn't have made any difference, but still grrrrrrr. Now I have to either (a) persuade DH that we need to stump up £120 + a babysitter for the 8 week course from the NCT, (b) try and find something else - I heard someone muttering about a birth weekend the other day, or (c) go without, which is DH's preferred option anyway. Think I will tell him that if we do (c), he has to read books and fully inform himself about current birthing practice, breathing techniques etc, and that just turning up and saying "you're doing great" at intervals is not enough!!

Bramshott - I do find it staggering that you cannot attend the NHS classes - I assume your midwife will provide the aftercare you need when you come out of hospital. I would fight your corner - that really is poor - in fact it makes me cross!

Hello Charli - welcome!

I have serious concerns that we are going to struggle getting 3 car seats into the back of either of our cars - the middle seat just isn't wide enough. DH had a Honda FRV (6 seater) the other day and the seats were much bigger than my CRV and also had the extra seat...may take some convincing though...could be quite an expensive baby!

Still hoping for a girl!

runnyhabbit · 08/11/2006 14:28

Bramshott - I think your mw is talking complete and utter codswallop! As far as I understood it, every mum-to-be has the right to NHS antenatal classes. Although whatt they actually consist of, and how long they last depends greatly between hospitals.

I had ds in a hospital outside "my area" (because dh was born there, and it was very close to work for appts, scans etc) still saw my community mw occassionally, and she advised me that as it would be her coming out to us after the birth, it would make sense to go the local antenatal classes, instead of the hospitals iyswim. But if I wanted to go my chosen hospitals classes it would be no problem. Some mw I saw were a bit "funny" about my choice of hospital, but on the whole, they understood my reasoning.

can you find out who this mw works for? I mean, does she a mw team leader that she has to report to, or is there another mw you could see?

nuttygirl · 08/11/2006 14:31

Hello all...

CFK - how old are you LOs...i believe the new laws say that if you can't fit 3 car seats in (e.g. cos middle seat won't fit) then the oldest one can go without.

I'm v at FIL. I spent hours the other night writing an email to try and sort things out. He didn't even bother acknowledging it...DH has had to email him today saying how disappointed he is. Anyway response was he will reply and talk to me on MSN but he's busy painting until at least 9 tonight. ARGHHHHHH....told DH to let FIL know I have more important things to do tonight like watching my already dry paint to see if it gets any drier and that maybe we can reschedule to sometime after FIL has gone and F*ed himself (sorry bout the language folks...but I've had enough of them and have now declared war!!!)

Bramshott - v at u not getting NHS classes...I'm pretty sure I'd have been able to go to them whichever hospital I chose (had a choice of 3). The form for the classes was in the maternity notes folder I was given when I first saw the doc. Have you tried looking for local NHS classes and emailing to apply for them...maybe if you didn't let on you were going elsewhere they'd never notice (in a left hand doesn't know what the right is doing kinda way!!! )

CD - free MN biccie if you can guess my real name

btw was it you CD who said you used terries nappies also...whoever it was can you tell me if they are easy to use (and if my somewhat dopey DH could manage to fold them correctly!!!)

Greengirlforever · 08/11/2006 14:38

Nuttygirl - is it Hazel Orange?

Booooo to your FIL!!! I hate my FIL most of all my rellies as well .

CornflakeKid · 08/11/2006 14:38

Nuttygirl - are you called Hazel Orange???

With car seats - my scenic got written off last year with us all in it - so would never go down route of ds1 not being in a car seat - we have a booster aswell - but 3 car seats still don't fit! Also for same reasons would not have my airbags switched off. Have 5 months to work on dh or they will all just have to wedge themselves in.

Have a terry nappies folding instruction sheet - if someone could tell me how to link will attach it to the thread! You could try Washabums - I'm sure she has a folding sheet - I would recommend triple fold or Jo fold on a newborn!

My hip/pelvis is still playing up - have put up a new thread.

Greengirlforever · 08/11/2006 14:40

Snap CFK! But I get the prize if we're right cos' I was first !

runnyhabbit · 08/11/2006 14:43

CFK - I'm going to the GP today because I know that my SPD is back very (pee'd off emoticon here) about it. Just hope my GP knows what he's talking about (although most of the time, he's pretty good)

Is the pain worse after you've been in one position for too long?

nuttygirl · 08/11/2006 14:43

LMAO!!! You're both half right!!! As a slight hint "fruit" is perhaps a little misleading.

Bugmum · 08/11/2006 14:44

Am feeling pretty rubbish today: had a bad upset stomach yesterday (the pain starting while I was teaching and I had to rush to the loo ), and now I feel sort of sick and tender in the stomach, which NATURALLY I find slightly worrying. Sigh. Probably related to the mild food poisoning Friday night, or just a little bug, but I hate it.

SOL - buffet, paper plates. Only sane way to go. I'm doing Christmas dinner (ha!) and that's what the hoards will be getting here (double ha!).

1Becomes3 - poor, poor you! I feel stupid complaining about my stomach after hearing your story, but you know how it is when it's the stomach area causing concern.

EllieK - brave decision. I hope you continue to cope so well.

Bramshott- by hook or by crook, you really should get some sort of classes; not so much for the info (though that too) but for meeting others in RL who are at exactly the same stage you are. I am still in touch with my whole NCT group from my first bubba.

nuttygirl - can I be in the competition? Are you Hazel Peach?

Charlii - welcome. Enjoy your pregnancy!

Phew. Am very impressed with myself for that list (just hope I didn't leave anyone out... )
16+3

Bugmum · 08/11/2006 14:45

Ooh, lots of x-posts there.
Hazel Currant

nuttygirl · 08/11/2006 14:46

Aww Bugmum, to hear you're not feeling good...perhaps it's for the best that you haven't managed to win the biccie!!!

nuttygirl · 08/11/2006 14:47

Although you are getting closer!!!

Bugmum · 08/11/2006 14:47

nuttygirl - probably true, but I managed to buy and share with DS a flake cake this morning, even though I KNEW it was a crap idea (as it were). How greedy is that?

Bugmum · 08/11/2006 14:48

Sultana!

nuttygirl · 08/11/2006 14:49

Mmmm...flake cake....they're yummy....DH could be making a second trip to the supermarket for me today!
