little - I am Shock . Even if you had sworn directly at her she should have had the ability to ignore it based on the situation you were in. I do not swear much but I did swear alot following a big fall years back and during labour with dd and it was not under my breath. Both times when I apologised the people were more of the "please don't worry it happens alot and was understandable in the circumstances". (I had not at this point lost a baby! ) I cannot believe the anaesthetist behaved like that and had so little empathy for what you were going through.....not sure how she survives working in a hospital dealing with stressed, anxious and upset people every day as surely she would have people swearing at her every day.

I worked in a hospital as a clinical scientist and people did swear under their breath or even at me and usually it was because they were scared or upset and the best approach was to either ignore it or be even nicer to them to try and reassure them as getting angry with them would have just made things worse.)

I swore like a trooper in my first labour - and I'm not usually a big swearer! I just couldn't help myself Blush

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 21/03/2015 09:08

little I don't even have any words, I'm just so sorry you had to deal with that.

TinyTear · 21/03/2015 10:07

Little that is shocking! Did you report her?
They should be prepared...

I do swear a lot, but have been better since having dd...

I'm 31 years old and if I want to swear I will, the fact is because of my job I'm just not in the habit of swearing so the most I might say very very rarely is bollocks but I would have to be really wound up.

I think the one time in my life I'm allowed to swear is when squeezing a baby out of my vagina

LittleBairn · 21/03/2015 11:53

LIG that's what confused me as someone who would regularly give out epidurals to labouring women I doubt I was the first to ever swear in front of her!

Tiny I should have complained (the head of maternity came to see me straight afterwards so the higher ups were aware of what happened and very apologetic) but we had an ever bigger complaint fairly soon afterwards where we had to investigate a few days after we burried DS if we burried the right baby. It was a paper work error in the end and was cleared up in under 48 hours.
Plus it was right around the time that the nurse involved in the royal radio prank killed herself so DH was really worried about the consequences of complaining might have in her life.
He pointed out I won, I was in the right and I managed to get the placenta out by myself.
But it did play on my mind for a long time.

The midwife involved came to see me whilst I was in with DD (I know I can't believe myself that I went back to that place!) to say she was really sorry about what happened and she had been thinking about it for the past year too. It really helped me heal.

LittleBairn · 21/03/2015 11:57

They also forgot to give me a blood transplant but have it down on record that they gave it to me.
Because this hospital is our nearest if I need to call 999 we won't be calling it till we are half way down the motorway closer to our current hospital.

I should add the midwifes are amazing at the hospital and if I was having a straight forward midwife lead birth I would actually want it to be with them.

TinyTear · 21/03/2015 15:54

What a saga. No wonder you go.to a different one now

I think my waters have gone now......either that or I have suddenly got no bladder control and seem to be creating clear fluid from nowhere. now to Google risks of baby being born at 36 weeks.

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 21/03/2015 19:11

Good god little I am horrified at the treatment you've had.

My local hospital hasn't got a great reputation but I can't praise them highly enough for the treatment I received during and after my miscarriage and I am very confident in the care given by the antenatal department, the only thing I can complain about is the obsession with BMI.

I am really uncomfortable today, my back really hurts and I feel crampy like I'm about to start my period.

39+6

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 21/03/2015 19:14

lig could it just be discharge, I've had an abundance of clear watery discharge since about 36 weeks, pregnancy really is gross!

I stopped worrying about the baby coming at 36 weeks, I figured 37 weeks is considered full term so 36 isn't that early, don't let dr Google freak you out

LIG1979 · 21/03/2015 19:27

Not sure - it seems like alot of discharge to suddenly come out. Hoping it is something like that as really not ready yet.

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 21/03/2015 19:36

I'm keeping always panty liners in business at the risk of sharing far to much my knickers are soaked within 20 mins without them Blush it's definitely not amniotic fluid or urine and my midwife says it's normal. Fingers crossed that's all it is for you. It doesn't smell either which according to my midwife is how to tell the difference, urine obviously smells of wee, amniotic fluid smells sweet or like straw apparently and discharge is odourless.

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 21/03/2015 19:37

I'm so going to need to name change after beanie is born Blush

Shetland · 21/03/2015 20:18

Did you get your bag packed LIG - just in case?

LIG1979 · 22/03/2015 03:22

Our ds was born at 12.40 weighing an impressive 6lb 5oz at 36.2. Was in labour about 90 minutes and in the delivery suite for about 10 so never got my epidural. He is all well and has a good scream if he comes off the boob. dh and ds are now sleeping.

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 22/03/2015 03:53

Sorry, I've been a bit absent since Bertie arrived, and trying to catch up. What a time to rejoin the thread!

Lig, congratulations! Nice size and super quick labour, fabulous!

little, I am flabbergasted at that woman! People like that are in the wrong fucking profession if you ask me. What a twat.

smiling the joys of sharing with family, eh? Sounds like it won't be long now...

LittleBairn · 22/03/2015 13:48

tanny don't apologise. How is Bertie getting on?

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 22/03/2015 14:02

Am feeling very sorry for myself today, woke up at 5am and cried for an hour, I have had enough of being pregnant, I want beanie out and I'm fed up waiting. Then I feel guilty because I know how lucky I am to have got this far and feel bad for feeling the way I do Sad

40 weeks today
