She did measure my belly in the appointment yesterday in the end. Right on track. Dipped my wee, took my BP and listened to baby's heart (it was so strong!) so it was quite nice really. Thanks all for the heads up!

I haven't had any alcohol either, although I did always enjoy a glass of sauvingnon blanc so I am missing it a bit lately! I did plan to have one glass now and then later in pregnancy but that documentary scared me off the idea a bit. :(

Feeling a bit grotty, can't quite shift this virus and struggling to sleep well at the moment so I'm feeling rather sorry for myself!

rascalrae · 19/03/2015 08:21

I've had non-alcoholic beer for that reason - just like the smell, plus soft drinks are always so sweet & for the first 12 weeks I only wanted savoury. I often have a good sniff when DH is drinking wine or beer but I've avoided drinking. I already feel like I have a hangover most of the time! A nice glass of fizz would be good though!

happygojo · 19/03/2015 09:24

My take on the alcohol thing has changed over the past few weeks since that documentary showing the difference between a baby scan of someone who had 2.5 units a week and someone who hadn't had a drink and it scared the life out of me. That said my mum had a regular Guinness with me... Medically advised and I am alright.

Now I just think that if I can go without it then I will. Not really fancied it to be honest. I have eaten bagged salads and pre packed sandwiches and I had cooked mussels.... Oh and accidentally ate Comte cheese a few weeks ago. I just have my fingers crossed that everything is ok at my scan on Monday

Dani240 · 19/03/2015 09:48

I've let myself have one drink a week (half a pint or a small glass of wine) on a Friday night, and not before 12 weeks. In the first 12 weeks DH was really sad that I was on the lime and soda at the pub! He kept guzzling pints and looking all mournful saying "I feel so sorry for you, this is brilliant!" Confused

I didn't really miss it in the first 12 weeks, especially when I was poorly with morning sickness.

I decided that one drink a week would be fine for me after reading an excellent book called Bumpology, which I would completely recommend. It's written by a scientific journalist, who goes back to the research on every topic. Interestingly, she seems much more hardline about cheese than she does about booze!

I do think that this is a very personal decision and I'm not saying that my way is the right way, just that it's the right way for me! Grin

OMC1 · 19/03/2015 11:48

I really thought I would struggle with the no-booze thing, I wasn't a hugely heavy drinker before but still enjoyed a regular weekend drink with DH especially with a curry or a takeaway but in all honesty since being pregnant I have not fancied a drop!

It was one of the first clues before I did a test when I was just a few weeks pregnant - not fancying a glass of cider on a Friday night was a bit of a giveaway for me!

pinkie Glad to hear everything went okay! And I hope you feel better soon

I am 18+6 today, and I am still not 100% sure about the movements - sometimes I think I feel bubbles. but if I try and concentrate on it, I don't feel them again! On Tuesday I might have felt a little flick from the inside - first kick perhaps?

A part of me still feels like this is all too unreal and I still can't get my head around the fact I am growing an actual little person in there - anybody else feel the same?

Frolicacid I'm having the same with sleeping too, I wake up 4/5 times to wee (frustrating!) and then it takes me a long time to nod back off again.

Frolicacid · 19/03/2015 17:22

I'm glad your appointment went well pinkie. I hope you feel better soon. Plenty of rest.

omc, I'm with you 100% on not feeling like this I real. Despite 2 scans, I still find it hard to believe that there is a baby in my tummy. I think I have felt some movement wind. I'm thinking it will feel more real when the proper kicks start.

The waking up to wee is doing my head in. I lay there for hours after trying to feel movements and making lists in my head.

I hope everyone's had a good day. I've now finished work until the 30th. Yippeeeee!Smile

Dozygirl · 19/03/2015 20:10

omc u sound exactly like me! I'm 18+6 and also have the occasional bubbles and flick that I think might be movement but can't be too sure

I've had about 4 glasses of bubbles in total since getting my bfp. I think the occasional one is ok but always better to be safer than sorry, it's just when I've had an occasion to celebrate that I've let myself have a small one.

Pate I definitely wouldn't touch. I've eaten mussels and prawns etc if they've been cooked but again not regularly. I actually treated myself to brie because it was deep fried so thoroughly cooked making it safe. They're all just risks but again it's better to be safer than sorry.

Went shopping to get my boobs messaged. I've gone up another back size and cup :( I feel ginormous. I always used to envy pregnant people but noone warns you that you'll feel so mega depressed about getting bigger :( 4 years ago I worked really hard to lose weight and I've managed to mostly keep it over. I never reached my ideal weight but I felt good and I did plenty of exercise so I was happy and now I just feel like I'm undoing all my hard work and it doesn't make me feel very good. I know I'm growing a baby etc but right now I just feel fat. I just hope once the baby comes that I'll be able to work hard to get back to a comfortable weight again. I'm envious of people who say 'I don't look pregnant from the back' etc coz that certainly won't be me. My love handles are growing and my bum.

Sorry for the moan I just found shopping very depressing today! Maternity wear is frumpy and only designed when u have a big bump and I couldn't find any normal clothes I liked.

Equimum · 19/03/2015 20:11

Pinkie, I'm glad everything was good at your appointment.

Frolic, have a great week off, do plenty of relaxing and enjoy your shopping day.

Having barely touched alcohol since getting pregnant with DS, I had a glass of (very nice) wine, to wash down sashimi when DH and I got our first proper night out in two years....when I was (unknowingly) just pregnant. We were certain I wouldn't have got pregnant first time of trying, so thought we'd really splash out. When I did the test I was really panicked, although more about the raw seafood tha the glass of wine. I've not had a drop since, but I've had plenty of bagged salad and prepped sandwiches. I tend to roughly follow the NHS advice and that has become even more flexible than when I was pregnant three years ago. I'm really glad I can now have cooked cheeses, uncooked Stilton and 'less than well-cooked' eggs.

I've also been feeling very under par today. I've been needing the loo lots through the night, and top it all off, DS has been waking a couple of times.

Fanby · 19/03/2015 20:47

Evening! I've just devoured a massive pepperoni pizza (didn't touch the sides). Really enjoyed reading the responses on the contraband food/drink!

Sorry to hear you've had a rough day Dozy (confession, totally read it as you got your boobs massaged at first which made me lol). I think the changes of the body are a lot to deal with. I know we're all growing babies but changing shape is definitely hard to deal with too. Please don't think you're undoing your hard work though, i'm sure you'll bounce back into shape as soon as you feel ready too after birth. Give yourself a break :D Have you had a look online for any clothes?

Great to hear your appointment went well Pinkie, fingers crossed you'll feel better soon! You too Equimum!!

OMC and Dozy I think (if I remember correctly) you two are due the day before me. Your description of movements sound exactly like mine! I really don't think it's wind anymore lol. Someone else on another thread described it as 'when your tired and your eye twitches', that's what it was like at the beginning but now it feels a lot more pokey for me.

My nights of getting up and wee'ing seem to have stopped (HALLELUJAH!). Wishing all those a toilet break free night!! xx

pinkie87 · 19/03/2015 22:25

Thanks all :)

dozy I'm totally with you. I lost a stone and a half before I got pregnant and was really happy with my weight. since being pregnant I just feel like a massive frump. Hardly any bras fit me now and I have finally ordered some maternity jeans so I don't feel squeezed into mine!

omc dozy and fanby you're making me so excited to feel movements! 17 weeks tomorrow so hope it's not too much longer.

frolic I'm so jealous of your time off! Works so stressful at the mo! Enjoy yourself. :)

Hope you manage to get some sleep equimum!

The harrogate changing unit came today! DH spent 3 hours building it and it's so lovely. Feels really good quality. Would still never have paid £400 for it though! No damage or scratches and seems brand new so I'd defo recommend nurserysavings on ebay if anyone is after mother care furniture!

mzzzf · 19/03/2015 23:34

OMG! Reality has hit home hugely Grin

So I've been feeling the flips/flops/flutters get increasingly stronger and tonight with my hand feeling my bump I actually felt it. DH wanted in on the action too so came over to have a feel and he felt it too! Argh, it's so real now!!!!

Dozygirl · 20/03/2015 06:08

pinkie yey for the good purchase. Hope u start feeling movements soon. It really is hard to distinguish to start with.

mzzf how exciting that dp could feel movements. How many weeks are u?

fanby yey for holding in your wee! I don't really have a problem with weeing yet. I've got quite a strong bladder. Never ever wake up for a wee in the night. I hope that continues! Boob massage haha, that might be a nice thing!

Woken up thinking i must be hungry because I didn't manage to eat my tea last night but no, it was to be sick :( wondering if I've got a bug or something because I really didn't want to eat yesterday which is most definitely unusual for me. Off work today anyway as that's how my shifts fell. Should be back tomorrow but will have to see how I feel.

OP posts:
mzzzf · 20/03/2015 09:54

Dozy I'm 21w 5 d. The flutters and pops have been steadily increasing since about week 19 but to feel it via my hand was crazy!!

Hope you're feeling better soon Dozy, sickness sucks!

I'm jealous of you all getting the nursery stuff done. I'm holding off until 30ws, plus we're off on holiday next week so no need to buy stuff just yet, plus I'm holding out for some hand-me-downs that could be coming my way.

OMC1 · 20/03/2015 11:48

Dozy Haha, it sounds like we are pregnancy buddies! I too lost a load of weight, almost four stone before becoming pregnant and although I am desperately trying not to be bothered by the weight gain it does feel like I am just going backwards (my hips and bum and thighs seem to be spreading at an alarming rate!)! The two or three spin classes a week are no match for the eight cakes, twelve bags of crisps and god knows how many sweets a day! I hope you feel better soon, last week I had a funny turn and was sick after not being ill since Christmas, I think it was just cheer exhaustion. Look after yourself.

Fanby Ooh, that's good to know! I am about 85% sure it's baby I am feeling, but I am such a cynic! Haha!

Equimum I hope you feel better and get a good nights rest soon!

mzzzf That's so exciting - congrats! I can't wait for that moment - I am trying to not wish the time away as I am enjoying being pregnant, despite my grumblings, but at the same time I am eager for the next milestones! I am with you on the hand-me-downs too, my boss has offered me a cot and as she is a partner at the law firm I work for (I'm her secretary) I know it'll be a top notch one Wink

Anyone got any exciting weekend plans?

Equimum · 20/03/2015 12:47

Thanks Pinkie and OMC, I slept much better lat night, thanks to DS sleeping through. Hopefully he'll be more consistent by the time bump arrives.

It's really exciting to hear about all the movements. It feels so real once they start moving, doesn't it?

Dozy, I'm sorry you're struggling so much with the body changes. Try to remember that a lot of the weight gain etc is lost relatively easily after baby arrives, a it's extra blood etc. I have also found with both pregnancies that my rib cage expands quite early on and my bra size goes up quickly. You may find that your band size reduces relatively soon after baby arrives. As for clothes, have you experimented with styles. May not be your thing, but I found wrap dresses/ top felt a bit more flattering than most things, and can fit much earlier than other items.

I'm loving hearing about everyone's purchases and hand-me-downs. Pinkie, I'm really glad that you were happy with your change table - it is a beautiful piece, and OMC, the cot you have been offered sounds exciting. We're off to a second hand baby sale in a couple of weeks, which I am stupidly excited about. Mind you, we'll probably end up buying more toys for DS instead of baby bits!

Frolicacid · 20/03/2015 16:17

Try not to worry about the weight thing dozy. Our bodies are going to change so much. I feel very fat at the moment. I'm hoping that when the bump gets bigger I'll look less porky and more pregnant.
I've also lost a lot of weight over the years. I guess that if we've done it before, we can do it again.
I hope you're feeling better by now. I've been lucky not to have any colds or bugs since my BFP. God knows how I would have managed that on top of the HG.

Mzzf how exciting about your movements. DH is desperate to feel something on my belly. 18 weeks today, so hopefully he'll get to soon.
I'm also probably leaving the nursery for a while. Baby won't sleep in it for ages yet, so we'll do it nearer the time. I'm terribly indecisive, so if I decorate now, I'll probably want it different by this time next year.

Glad you had more sleep last night equimum Smile

OMC I'm going away for the night tomorrow to watch Disney on Ice with my sister and niece. I'm sure it will be loads of fun.

I'm having a great day off. Went to the beach to watch the eclipse this morning. Then it started to rain at lunch time, so I've been snuggled on the sofa with the dog all afternoon. I've been looking at prams all afternoon. I thought we'd decided but I've confused myself again. There is so much choice Confused

Equimum · 20/03/2015 17:54

Frolic enjoy your trip. Which pushchairs are you looking at?

Frolicacid · 20/03/2015 20:26

Thanks equimum. I'm sure we'll have lots of fun.

We want an all terrain pram as we have a dog and spend lots of time out walking and at the beach etc. I really want it to parent face for the first 9 months at least, but this really limits our choice.
We are currently looking at the jane trider, bugaboo donkey, icandy peach jogger. We need to go and look at them in a shop really. I'm doing my own head in trawling the Internet in case I've missed another one that fits the bill!

I have fallen in love with this cot today. A bit more than the mokkee ones, but convers into a bed.

Dozygirl · 20/03/2015 21:16

I got the bugaboo buffalo frolic that supposed to be all terrain. When I posted a pic on facebook a friend said hers has been brilliant and went up a mountain with it. Not sure what sort of mountain though. The donkey is good if u want another baby in close succession. I don't know about the other ones.

Still not felt right today but I can't put my film germs on what exactly I feel if that makes sense. Just feel weak and loss of appetite. Been to dp parents for tea because we always go on a Friday and very nearly vommed in the kitchen when I got a whiff of something bad. Got a 13 hour shift tomorrow though so that will either snap me out of feeling pathetic or kill me off. Really don't wanna call in sick though. Need the extra pay I get for a Saturday shift lol.

Disney on ice sounds fun. where u going to watch that? I love ice skating. We have the hot ice show in Blackpool which is amazing.

Ps thats a pretty cot. Not seen one like that before.

OP posts:
Joskar · 20/03/2015 21:30

Frolic I do lots of dog walking and a sling is infinitively more convenient IMO. Unless you are dog walking on decent paths a pram is a pita. For the beach you'll definitely want a sling. We live in the country and our track is a nightmare even with the 3 wheeler all terrain. It's just too joggly. Also I really recommend checking Gumtree. Loads of people buy a pram that doesn't work for them and end up selling after just a few weeks of having it so you get good as new for much reduced prices.

Totally second the wrap dresses. You get lots of wear because they are so forgiving up and down dress sizes plus you can breast feed more easily after the bairn arrives. Maternity wear that doesn't have boob access drives me mad! New Look has some nice things usually.

Dd has had pneumonia this week. Horrible and stressful. We are all totally knackered now. I really wish I was pt sometimes. Sleep is on the agenda for the weekend. Sleep and chocolate.

Frolicacid · 20/03/2015 21:55

It's the buffalo I've been looking at as well dozy! The names are all confusing me. And after this hg I definitely won't be another in quick succession, if at all. Do I remember you saying that you got a bargain? Let me know where from if so?

I think my fave at the moment is the trider. I like the lie flat car seat / carrycot combo. And it's much cheaper than the bugaboo. My friend has one and says it's a dream to push over all sorts of terrain.

I will definitely get a sling as well jockstar. But we live in town and will get a lot of use out of a buggy too. I also spend a lot of time sitting on the beach while DH surfs, so will appreciate being able to put the baby down in at times. My parents are buying the pram. A bit of a family tradition of ours. I wouldn't mind second hand, but they would want it to be new. I don't think that's too extravagant as almost everything else will be handed down from my sister. You are so right about people spending shitloads and then regretting it. So many of my friends have bought several different buggies. Hopefully my obsessive research will pay off and we'll get it right first time.
I hope your dd is getting better. That must have been very stressful for you Flowers

mzzzf · 20/03/2015 22:38

Ooorrrf ladies I know what you mean about pushchair choices. I've been looking at the same as you guys, as we've two big dogs and are outside a lot, but I also need it for town trips too. I'm deffo going to be getting a sling/carrier but I think I've nailed down my pushchair choice to the Armadillo XT from mamas & papas. So easy to fold up and down, parent and world facing and the best bit is the tiny fold. So that when are dogs are in the back of the car, the pushchair can slip into the footwell of a seat on the back. Similar sorts of prices too.

But I totally agree pushchair choosing is a NIGHTMARE! And even though I think this is what I'm going to get, I'll probably change my mind!!

I love the lay flat car seats, and car seats are still an area I'm getting to grips with. Having treated little ones who've been bundled into car seats for hours makes me realise how important getting a decent one and following the time limits on their use is!!

Dozygirl · 20/03/2015 22:43

Yeah I bought it from winstanleys online. Free delivery and because it was the sand coloured base it was cheaper.

I'm very indecisive as well and didn't think id ever be able to choose but as I've used friend bugaboo's before I know I'll be able to use this one.

what kind of surfing does your dh do? Mine does kitesurfing so it's normally too windy to be down the beach when he's doing that. I've given it a go but it's bloomin hard work!

Oh joskar just noticed about your dd pneumonia. How worrying for u. Hope she's ok now. How old is she?

Wrap dresses. ..where do u get them? It's not something I've really noticed when out shopping. I have worried about the whole breastfeeding and what youre wearing part though as most of what I wear is not conducive to breastfeeding.

Tried to upload pic of my pram In previous post but it didn't work so will try again.
