Great piccie Pinkie!

pinkie87 · 16/03/2015 21:08

Thank you mzzzf! And congratulations on your little girl!

Joskar · 16/03/2015 21:31

Dozy I'm not sure what you do for your work but have you heard of biological nurturing? There are various videos online and a website with more info. I had so many problems getting breastfeeding going and no support because I'm very remote so no groups or what have you. I found the biological nurturing an absolute revelation. Lots of women in my original mn baby group found it very useful. Worth looking at if you want to suggest it to any new mums who are struggling but keen to continue.

Congratulations on all the gender scans. Nice to be able to just argue about one set of names!

Dani240 · 17/03/2015 11:57

birchwoods I haven't felt any definite movement either! I'm 18+1 but I thought that with twins I'd get to feel them earlier.

But often I am getting a lot of discomfort (like someone pressing a bruise) in my belly, and when I press where the pain is I can feel hard lumps (limbs?), which disappear when the pain goes. Is anyone else getting this? Confused

The NCT courses seem so expensive, but I've not heard anything about the NHS ones yet. To be honest I think they've forgotten about me, I had to chase them up loads to even get a 20 week scan date!

Frolicacid · 17/03/2015 19:09

Congrats all of you who have had your scans. I'm very envious of those that have found out the sex. Another two week wait for us!

Saw my midwife today. It was lovely to hear the heartbeat. And my wee was ketone and protein free at last.

I'll be 18 weeks on Friday. Not sure if what I've been feeling is kicks or wind yet!! I've also had the belly button pain dani, but blamed it on muscles as I'm not sure if baby is that high yet. Your twins probably are. I also had quite a lot of pain the other day after having massive giggles! Felt like my stomach was going to split.

I hope everyone is having a good day Smile

pinkie87 · 17/03/2015 20:50

I'm having a mixed day. Works not great as I feel I'm entirely eligible for a promotion that's in the pipeline but hurdles are being put in my way which makes me wonder why. On the plus side I bought the mothercare Harrogate chest of drawers on ebay for £185 instead of £400 in store! So that's helped a bit.

I have my midwife appointment in the morning. Not sure exactly what she's going to do, but I'd love to hear the heartbeat!

Frolicacid · 17/03/2015 21:19

Well done on your bargain pinkie. I love a bit of e-bay. Have had so many maternity bits for under £5.

How many weeks are you (can't see stars list on phone)? I'm sure you'll get to hear the heartbeat if you are 16+. All she did for me today was the Doppler, dip my wee sample, check my blood pressure and ask if I've stopped being sick. My usual one was at a home birth. This lady was covering and running very late. I had appoitments to get to this afternoon so just let her do her thing and buggered off asap.

Anyone watching one born every minute? I'm sort of looking.

mzzzf · 17/03/2015 21:31

I'm watching OBEM tonight. I would've told that Bernardo chap to get lost already, cannot believe him sleeping!! Have ore warned DH not to do that! Grin

Frolicacid · 17/03/2015 22:03

Me too mzzf! I would have sent him home.
It's do lovely when the babies arrive. I can't quite believe that we'll be getting one soon.

pinkie87 · 17/03/2015 23:01

Thanks frolic. I'm 16+5 tomorrow so fingers crossed. I have to be at work after so hope it doesn't take too long. Did they measure your tummy?

I watched obem too. That bloke was useless! She was much too forgiving!

Dozygirl · 18/03/2015 05:09

I've got obem on record. Had it on when dp was in the room on Saturday. Claimed he wasn't watching but I kept hearing comments like ewww a lot of the time so he was peeping. At the moment I feel like he is going to be absolutely useless to me in delivery and I'm considering taking someone else as well but who knows. He may step up to the mark when the time goes. It does worry me though in case he doesn't! ! I don't think i want to kiss my baby when it's still all covered in liquor but maybe I'll change my mind when it's my baby.

It is weird to think that'll be us!

I think the little pops and flutters I'm getting are actual movement now rather than wind because it's happening more frequently And isn't as low down as wind. I'm going to just think it is anyway because it's better than having wind lol. It's such a weird sensation. Like theres an alien inside you.

Well done on the bargain hunting. I'm rubbish at that but I've not really bought anything yet anyway.

Congrats to all the recent scans and to ppl who have found out sex. A week on Friday till I get to find out.

18+5 today. Can't sleep at the moment. Did an extra nightshift and it's thrown me.

joskar will look into biological nursing. Thanks for that.

I'm struggling to sleep as well dozy. I wake up for a wee and then my mind starts racing.
DH is a bit squeamish and panics easily. We've spoken about the labour and I offered to take a friend if he'd prefer. He is adamant that he wants it to just be us and promised he will step up. He's been so good to me when I'm sick that I'm feeling more confidence in him every day. Plenty of time still for you to talk this through with your dp.
I hope you get back to sleep. I'm going to be a zombie today. Good job I only have to work today and tomorrow before having a week and a day off. I'm so ready for a break.

She didn't measure my belly today pinkie. I'm sure she said that starts next time, which will be 25 weeks. I hope your appoitment today goes well.

Dozygirl · 18/03/2015 09:25

My mum desperately wants to be there with me but I'd rather have my friend who's had 3 kids in quick succession recently but they'd have to fight it out between them if I did decide to have someone else as well as dp. I might decide I don't want anyone there anyway. I'll definitely make my friend come round when it starts because they tell u just to stay at home initially so she can help me out then if nothing else. Can't believe we're nearing half way now.

Anyone seen or heard from blueberry? Haven't seen her post in awhile. Hope she's ok.

Oh gosh, I'm so jealous of everyone decorating nurseries. We're trying to buy a house right now, but currently in a biggish flat which would be really nice if it weren't for the fact that rain runs down the inside walls. Our letting agents have said that they're FINALLY going to do major external work, after two years of us begging... And it's likely to happen right around my due date. So I'm looking forward to a newborn combined with hammering and dust all day every day. :( :(

Fanby · 18/03/2015 10:17

oh lots of chats to catch up on! Congratulations to all those who've found out the gender/sex of their bumps!! It's all so exciting and beginning to get very real! Pinkie your scan is AMAZING!!! (and glad to hear i'm not the only one raving about lack of cm for cots!)

Re: shopping - “I'm assuming that as long as it has clothes, nappies, food and a bed the baby will be fine.” - this is my thoughts too, although I have enjoyed the research lol. There really is so much choice it gets massively bewildering. ATM i'm just trying to find a cheapish chest of drawers on ebay and then buy a changing mat for on top. I figure the chest of drawers will be handy for now too, and as for the rest of the baby gear, it can wait. Birchwoods that mothercare cot is GORGEOUS, completely understand why its sold out, grrr! I think a cot bed conversion is such a good idea and definitely something i'm going to look for.

Frolic hurrah for protein free wee lol! Isn't the sound of the heartbeat amazing!! Well done you!!

pinkie sorry to hear about your work, that must be really frustrating. Can you overcome the hurdles? Nice work on the ebay bargain though!!

August are you feeling any better?

Hello to rascalrae and FirstTimeSprog (to put people's names in bold you just put a * either side of the name)

xx

Augustwedding · 18/03/2015 10:48

Feeling better thank you, back at work today. Boss was very nice about it! She has kids which helps :)

Equimum · 18/03/2015 11:53

Wow, it's been busy on here! I hope those of you who have been feeling poorly are all starting to feel better, and that any scans that are imminent go well. (Sorry for depersonalising, but I know I'll make lots of mistakes/ omissions if I try to directly address everyone individually).

Frolic it's great to hear that your urine tests were better. Really hoping everything runs smoothly for you now.

Sian, out house purchase went through a few days before DS was born, and we moved when he was very newborn. If you end up moving about the time baby arrives, my only advice would be, don't take on too much. DH decided to paint the entire house between purchase and the move, which meant I was 1) painting at 40+ weeks and DH was out all day when DS was newborn, as he was so determined to finished. It was all very stressful (& unnecessary).

Frolicacid · 18/03/2015 18:26

Thanks everyone! I was stupidly proud of my rehydrated pee Smile

I've also been wandering about blueberry. I hope she's ok.

Glad you are feeling better august. It makes a huge difference.

I'm off all of next week. DH isn't, but has just told me he's taken one day off so we can go to look at prams. Yikes!! We live in the back of beyond, so this will require a nice day out to the nearest big city, a nice lunch and hopefully some maternity clothes shopping.

Fanby · 18/03/2015 19:39

Ahh you guys with moving/DIY plans deserve medals doing it with a newborn! I've been painting our hallway and we got our bathroom done a month ago and that was not fun pregnant! But with a baby, wow you go girls!!

Your day out sounds so much fun Frolic!! I hope you enjoy your shopping trip!! I might see if I can book one in with my DH!

Quick random question-has anyone had any alcohol since being pregnant?

X

Augustwedding · 18/03/2015 20:07

have been tempted to have a drink but decided against it but personal choice. im gonna have a big fat glass of pimms when he is born though :)

Joskar · 18/03/2015 20:27

I have Fanby. Unrepentant about it too (except I won't tell the mw!). Not lots and not in the first trimester but I've had a couple of small glasses since I stopped throwing up. I've not felt like it much tbh and I wouldn't go on the batter or anything but I don't think a wee bit does any harm. I've been merrily eating blue cheese, bagged salad, butter, cream, smoked salmon, shellfish, parma ham, soft cheeses. The only things I'm slightly wary of are unpasteurised cheeses, liver (including pâté etc) and fish like shark (obvs I ate loads of it before bfp!!).

If the baby comes out with three heads I'll know not to eat Stilton next time. Wink

Frolicacid · 18/03/2015 20:45

No alcohol at all for me since before my BFP. I work in child development and don't fel that there is enough evidence that even a few drinks are safe. (Not judging anyone else's decisions - there is very little evidence that it is dangerous as well). Plus I've been so I'll, wine is the last thing on my mind.
Did anyone see the itv documentary about alcohol and pregnancy a few weeks ago. Interesting stuff.

I'm being quite lax about food stuff - the only thing I'm really avoiding is anything with loads of vitamin a and shellfish as I am allergic to some types. Mind you, I'm still mostly existing on crisps and plain pasta Confused

You totally need a nice shopping day fanby. I think it's mandatory!

Fanby · 18/03/2015 22:59

Ah interesting to hear people's takes on the booze front. I am was a self confessed wino, and I thought i'd find it a lot harder to live without the odd drink but to be honest haven't really fancied it either (although no where near as sickies as you've been Frolic!!). However in the last couple of days i've had a major taste for a glass of fizz. It's my wedding anniversary over Easter and I think i'm going to treat myself then. I do wonder whether it's worth it though - plus always found it difficult just to have the one glass Wink.
God, I wonder what i've eaten that I shouldn't have - bagged salads I most definitely have!! Wasn't aware that was a no no! I'm a firm believer in common sense, didn't see the documentary but I'm half way through reading the Emily Oster book - "Expecting better, why the pregnancy wisdom is wrong and what you really need to know". Definitely makes some interesting points, however i'm so superstitious i'm a bit Confused at times too.

xx

sianihedgehog · 18/03/2015 23:00

I've had half a pint of beer occasionally since 12 weeks. No more than one half pint per week, and nothing stronger. I honestly don't think it makes any logical sense that really tiny amounts could be harmful, and I've absolutely LOVED the smell of proper ale the whole pregnancy.

Fanby · 18/03/2015 23:35

Oh Siani I love the smell of ale and beer at all times lol! I love the smell of what I call an 'old mans pub', stinky beer mats etc!! Lovely!! Grin
