Hi All,

Can anyone feel kicks and movements from the outside yet? I do have a little extra padding, but my OH is getting really frustrated, but he also gets bored sitting with his hand on my tummy... no patience!

sianihedgehog · 25/03/2015 10:00

happygojo I can't even feel kicks myself yet, 21 weeks on Friday. I don't think I'll be conclusively able to tell the difference between kicks and gas for some time, tbh, particularly given that I could feel gas from the outside before getting pregnant!

Dani240 · 25/03/2015 10:22

Dozy yes, I'm supposed to get extra scans, especially as we get closer to the due date, but I'm pretty sure I'm lost in the system somewhere. I had to call up the hospital and ask about five different departments to even get booked in for my 20 week scan! When I go for it (on Monday) I'm going to try to sort it out.

sianihedgehog I can't feel anything either! 19+2. I just can't wait to feel them!

Does anyone else keep getting told off by well-meaning acquaintances? I've had three people now telling me that I should stop cycling to work. Like being pregnant means that I'm now no longer an adult who can make my own informed choices! It seems like everyone has an opinion about what I should or shouldn't be doing!

OMC1 · 25/03/2015 10:43

Dozy That is quite spooky!! Haha! I am literally counting down the hours I am so excited - I hope I have a good scan and baby isn't feeling shy! Hehe! I don't think we are going to find out - DH and I have been talking about a lot, and whilst we would like to know, I think the surprise idea is winning at the moment! And the gig you're going to sounds amazing - all my favourite childhood music too! I am very jealous!

We have been invited to weddings a week before and two weeks after the due date! Typical, all these lovely summer weddings that I want to attend, but know will just cause me stress - if I am able to go at all!

birchwoods Congrats on feeling some movements - isn't it just wonderful!? Smile

Dani240 Oh my god - yes! My biggest frustration at the moment is people that tell me off because I am still doing my spin classes! I tend to ask them do they really think I would risk my baby's wellbeing for the sake of a spin class!? Leave me alone! Haha! I know they mean well, but some of them get so cross with me!

Bit of a vanity grumble here - my skin is AWFUL today! I have suffered with spots since the start of pregnancy, and it started getting better recently but this week it is the worst it has ever been! Proper pizza face - I feel so self conscious about it, and am trowelling on the slap to try and hide the worst of it! I never suffered with acne or spots as a teen Sad Is anyone else's skin suffering?

happygojo · 25/03/2015 11:13

OMC and Dani240 Cycling both indoors and outdoors is literally the best pregnancy exercise, especially if you have any pelvic pain. Tell the 'know-it-alls THAT!

But I get a lot of 'should you be eating that?' and 'should you be doing that'. I had my MIL saying that I shouldn't go on a mini break to Ely. It is literally 2 hours on the train and I am meeting up with my mum. It isn't like I am trekking through the Asian jungle!

Also OMC I was promised nice skin with pregnancy and it isn't happening Sad i am using some stuff from Lush which is helping a bit and not as harsh as normal spot stuff. I haven't looked up whether it is safe for preg, but it is mainly aloe and tea tree oil so guessing it is ok??

pinkie87 · 25/03/2015 11:44

My skin has been playing up a lot too OMC1. Lots of spots round the chin/mouth area. Are you using grease lightning happygojo? I used to work at lush and always liked that stuff. I feel I'm just working my way through different products trying desperately to fix my face!

Congratulations on the baby boy blueberry! :)

happygojo · 25/03/2015 12:31

Yes Pinkie I use Greased lightening, Ultrabland, tea trea water and vanishing cream. I used to use 'full of grace' too but since being pg my skin doesn't seem to like it????

It was all working really well but pg hormones seem to have kicked the bad skin up a notch

xBlueberry88x · 25/03/2015 14:21

Frolic Sickness has all gone most days have relapses some times but very rare now! Back is ok have been to physio and have exercises to do now so we shall wait and see. How are you??

Dozy yes still alive just havent the energy to keep up with everyone recently lol! hope your good?

Im stressing out about prams and cots etc how am I supposed to know what to get lol

rascalrae · 25/03/2015 15:53

Very jealous of those of you who have had scans & are feeling proper kicks. I had a horrid dream last night that I was given bad news at the scan. Feel quite upset today & could really do with a reassuring kick. Scan not til next Thursday.

On the subject of weddings, I have one 6 weeks after baby is due. I reckon we'll still be in a complete state at that point so it's going to be tough. Plus what will I wear? Would it be best to think about maternity dresses? I won't be making efforts to lose baby weight at that point but I've no idea how big I'll be. I probably just have to accept that I won't look or feel my best Sad

Frolicacid · 25/03/2015 16:03

blueberry, I'm glad you are feeling better. I'm loads better, thank you. The nausea has mostly home and my appetite is good, but I'm still being sick at some point most days. I di have more energy and feel less tired.

I'm also quite confused about prams and cots. There is only one pram that really ticks all of out boxes (all terain, parent facing, carryco, not mega bucks), the jane trider. We're going to have a look on Friday and I really hope we like it, or I'm not really sure what we'll do. I've spent way too much time researching and obsessing over this recently.

omc, my skin is usually really spotty (especially around ovulation) but has been more or less clear since my BFP. Strange how it affects us all differently. The best thing I've found for my spots has been olay daily facials cloths. You wet them and use like a flannel. They aren't harsh, but give a really deep clean.

I'm also having lots of 'helpful.' advice. As well as comments on how big / small my bump is. What is it about being pregnant that makes people think you want to hear these things? My smile and nod face is getting better.

I hope today's scans went well .

birchwoods · 25/03/2015 16:30

Hi everyone,

I'm currently over-obsessing about cots (there's always something for me to spend HOURS researching, now it's the cot's turn!).

I've pretty much decided, after much deliberation, that we're not going to get a cot bed, just a straightforward cot. Probably. We really want one with drawers and I've really struggled to find one I like that the drawer also fits under as a bed. Also, we are planning on having more than one child, and although we have a spare single bed in the nursery now, I will want that to stay there for DC2 so we'll need to buy another bed for DC1 anyway, then when DC2 outgrows the cot he/she can just have the single bed that we already have. So really we have no need for a cot bed.

I posted last night on MN about cot or cotbed and nearly every person said there's really no need for a cot bed. Having said that, there are more cot beds available than cots now it seems and if we weren't so fussed about having a drawer I'd probably go for a cot bed.

I think we're going to go for an Ikea one (Stuva or Gonatt) but really need to go a see it in person first.

I wonder what will be next on the obsession list once this is sorted!

Hope everyone is having a good week. I think we're going to order our Snuzpod tonight, yay!

birchwoods · 25/03/2015 16:30

I hope scans went well today!

sianihedgehog · 25/03/2015 19:34

My scan was good! Baby's all healthy and normal. Placenta currently sitting right next to my cervix, mind, so I have a scan at 34 weeks to check if it has moved.

I've got an absolutely HORRENDOUS cold now, and keep coughing until either I'm sick into my hands or a little bit of wee comes out. Sometimes both. :(

Frolicacid · 25/03/2015 21:47

Yay for a good scan siani. I hope your cold gets better soon Flowers

annike82 · 25/03/2015 22:26

Oh I missed so many comments. I was actually in Italy, managed to enjoy some good food and sunshine.

So exciting - congrats to everyone who found out about the babies sex. I have my scan mid April, can't wait to find out!

I can't believe you all have chosen your beds and buggies etc! We might go for ikea cot but no idea about the buggies etc yet. Will try to go to a big mothercare once we get a car. I also need to learn to drive now!! I hope I will manage to find the time now to study a bit. Left it slightly too late...

PerpetualSummer
I found these yoga classes:
www.yvonnemooreyogabirth.com/yoga-classes/
activebirthcentre.com/where-is-the-active-birth-centre/
yogaenfieldnorthlondon.co.uk/timetable/
there was something also in muswell hill or crouch end I think.

I might try the first one and enfield one next month, do you live in north london as well?

I'm almost 18 weeks and I started to feel already something. More like bubbles bursting, but now it's happening every evening and when I'm sitting down. Really weird. :)

Re alcohol - love wine etc, but have managed to stay away, just have taken a sip every now and then.

PS - just heard in italy from someone who also was worried about their body image and started going running and exercising a lot 1 month after giving birth and she couldn't breastfeed after that...So be careful with trying getting in shape too quickly and early. Thought to share it.

I decided to do the NCT course, better to get the information and hope it will be useful. I can't be bothered to only read books, it will be nice if someone shows everything and also my boyfriend needs to learn :)

I told at work as well to my boss...Phew, it was nice to get it out as my belly is growing and can't hide it forever. I bought few tops and boyfriend jeans from primark, didn't like any of the clothes mothercare had.

Having a bit of cramps as well today and feeling my belly is exploding soon, but I guess it's normal as everything is growing and getting bigger.

I will try to join the facebook group this weekend.

karatekimmi · 26/03/2015 05:35

I'm rubbish at posting in here, but I do lurk a lot!!

I have my scan in Friday and can't wait to see baby again!!

rascal a maxi dress might work - I had some maxi dresses that weren't maternity but I wore whilst heavily pregnant. Then you're not trying to slip back into something quickly post partum!!

I find that being pregnant gives everyone the right to judge and comment on your behaviour!! I'm still running very very slowly but keep getting getting told don't you think you should have stopped by now?

I'll have a proper catch up now

Dozygirl · 26/03/2015 06:51

Oh no siani on the cold and weeing front. Have u been doing your pelvic floor exercises? A friend kindly reminded me go keep at them. I think I have a strong bladder and I'm Not sure I'm doing them right but I'm trying. Started doing them when in my car.

OP posts:
happygojo · 26/03/2015 07:15

I think the running after having the baby and then not being able to breastfeed was probably due to dehydration IMO, rather than the act of running. I need to start exercising properly as my thighs seem to be growing at an incredible rate. Going to try and go swimming a couple of times a week and go to the gym and sit on the exercise bike for a bit. I got so lazy with cervix fears but now the consultant has told me to carry on as normal I really have no excuse anymore. Oh and my bladder has been awful recently. It is normally very irritated by endometriosis which has eased during preg but then the last few weeks the baby seems to be pushing on it. I am doing kegels but I might get an app.

pinkie87 · 26/03/2015 08:20

birchwoods I was torn between snuzpod and bednest (currently leaning towards bednest). Can I ask why you have gone for the snuzpod please? Grin

siani great news that your scan was all good!

rascalrae · 26/03/2015 08:58

I was leaning more towards Snuzpod birchwoods and pinkie, I think the rocker appealed and also the bednest looks a bit sharp & pointy, but I need to see them in real life. I know you can hire a bednest from NCT but still pricey. Would be interested to know what you think when it arrives birchwoods.

And thanks for the maxi dress idea karate, could work well. I'll have to see if I can find something on eBay. Hate spending money on formal outfits that you only wear once.

Keep up the reminders for pelvic floor exercises! Always helpful to have a prompt!

mzzzf · 26/03/2015 11:15

Ohhh Siani poor you, the elegance of pregnancy eh?

If you're used to running and it's part of your normal routine you don't need to give it up. Just adjust, like you said, speed and/or distance. And as the weather heats up you really want to avoid overheating but stick a middle ginger up yo the naysayers!!

Maxi dresses or jersey wrap dresses, monsoon do great ones are so ideal for pregnancy - and solo comfy too!

Off on holiday tomorrow and thinking I'll have to ask for a seatbelt extender as my bump is definitely shifting!!

birchwoods · 26/03/2015 20:56

Pinkie, I really like the look of the Snuzpod and the fact that you can take the bassinet off and use it during the day. I also like the fact that it rocks and I think it's one of the larger co-sleeper cots. I've read a few reviews on the bednest where people said they don't like the way the edges of it curve in as you can bang your baby's head on it, whereas the Snuzpod has nothing in the way. I also know someone who works for the Little Green Sheep Co. so I have a 20% discount! Might be able to get a code to use online if anyone wants it.
One more thing, although the Snuzpod is pricey, it really retains its value so I plan to sell it when I no longer need it.

Will let you know what it's like rascal. I might order it now actually!

birchwoods · 26/03/2015 21:05

Siani poor you!! I'm struggling to get the pelvic floor exercises in, might get that NHS app!

ruby242 · 27/03/2015 07:35

Equimum hope you find some nice clothes there.
Happygogo I feel movement but definitely not from the outside yet-my husband keeps putting his hand on my stomach to see, I think he's very keen to finally feel one but I'm guessing it will be a while!

Omc my skin as far as spots has gotten much better except for I have super dry areas around my mouth, the hormones do weird things don't they!

scan day today!! Excited but nervous! Going out for pancakes for breakfast to make the time go quickly before :) Omc, dozy, karatekimmy and anyone else who has their scans today hope yours all goes well and look forward to hearing about them all :)

pinkie87 · 27/03/2015 08:15

Good luck to all having their scans today!!

Thanks birchwoods. I may be interested in the online code if you can get it. I'm still so torn, I think it will require further research (if that's even possible!)
