Bendy - that was bad form of your midwife saying that. if it hurts you then she is deffinatly doing something wrong. it doesnt feel comfortable, not by any stretch of the imagination, but it certainly doesnt hurt! at the end of the day, all she does is shove two fingers up your flute and have a bit of a rummage its to move around all the prostoglandin from around your cervix (i think thats what she said)

youngmum - im sending you labour vibes bh are still a good sign, its gearing everything up

Lisamarv · 31/10/2006 00:21

Hi all, I finally have a baby! And best of all, did it without an epidural! 10lb 6oz (ouch!) baby Niamh - and no tears, cuts or stitches - that perineal massage must really work!! In labour for a total of 31 hours from very first contraction but only 7-8 hours from when it got REALLY uncomfortable, so not too bad. Will post the story on the birth announcement thread now...
Oh, I forgot to mention earlier that I had accupuncure on Weds night and the accupuncturist assured me I would be in labour within 48 hours and he was right! Waters started leaking next day! So highly recommend accupunture to all those frustrated overdue October mums out there.

lol wuzz at ur last post!

Well done lisamarv!

Good luck wit the midwife youngmum, hope u get some more signs soon!

Still nothing here!!!! & officially overdue now!

EmilyTurner · 31/10/2006 10:10

Congrats to Lisamarv

Had the sweep this morning. It was pretty simple. I lay on the bed at home with my legs to each side. She inserted two fingers, found the neck of the womb and assessed how soft it was and the length of it and if the cervix was open or closed. She then rotated her finger around the cervix. It didn't hurt at all and didn't even feel uncomfortable. It was fine (but then she is a lovely midwife).

So the situation is thus...3/5 engaged and everything with the baby is normal. My cervix is very soft and 1 cm in length which is fine but it is closed. I can have another sweep this weekend if I want but I have one booked on Monday at the hospital. If the cervix is still closed then, it will be booking an induction.

I just the baby out, so am open to their suggestions.

youngmum21 · 31/10/2006 10:28

hi all

Just got bak from mw everything was fine except got sugar im my urine !!!

Am annoyed though as i cant have my sweep done till the 7th nov!!!

EmilyTurner · 31/10/2006 10:46

Because my baby is on the 95th centile and was estimated to be 7lb 13 at 34 weeks.

youngmum21 · 31/10/2006 10:50

sorry i wasnt doing the humm at you more at my mw, i just re read wot i put and thought that looks so bitchy sorry wasnt meant to be!!!

OP posts:
EmilyTurner · 31/10/2006 10:52

That's ok. I didn't take it that way. I am just worried. The longer this pregnancy goes on the bigger the baby is getting and I am worried I won't be able to get it out.

youngmum21 · 31/10/2006 10:56

well maybe your baby wont be to big it not a 100% is it that your baby will be huge???

OP posts:
Popsi · 31/10/2006 11:13

congrats to Lisamarv.wuzzle was convinced you must have had baby but still good news it will be soon. Nothing here - DD still ill so probably a good thing. The only thing is that I am just sitting at home with DD not doing anything and thinking about it all!

purpleluce · 31/10/2006 11:15

Hi there

many congrats lisamarv - nothing doing here either really, are you actually bouncing on the ball, am on it right now and need to try harder I think.

Have reflexology today and midwife and she texted she would sweep but not sure that she will as I think they have to go a week over here too. If she offers I will take her up tho'!

Particularly liked wuzzles flute comments made me lol hopefully she has a baby by now or is at least close?

Will start looking into acupuncture for later this week good tip

Emily they dont always get it right with sizes...but am sure you know that! Be interested to know what you end up with.

Youngmum - have you got to wait till 7th because mw isn't available? I'm going to go to our walk in that they have on a Sunday for one if still in this position then. You may have one near you too...hopefully we won't need it of course

youngmum21 · 31/10/2006 11:27

purpleluce- well she looked to see wot day a week over due wud be and it a sun which is fair enough and im guessing she doesnt work mondays as she went straight to tues andit not till 2o clock and ive just realised dp has got hospital appointment that afternoon so it going to be a bit hetic if everything kicks off then, but hoping i will have had her by then!!!!

clon · 31/10/2006 12:28

Hello all

A new baby to report!!
After my 41 week appt on Friday where booked for induction and all the poking about plus your good labour vibes wuzz woke up at 4am on Sat with contractions 5 mins apart, they weren't that strong until 8am so got to hospital and Megan was born at 4.10pm.

My waters didn't break til well into it and then I was strapped to monitors as she was pooing, charming little girl!
It was chaos in the labour ward as it was full but the midwives were brilliant at coaching me through and managed on gas and air - the corwning bit will not go down as my finest moment though !

Wishing the remaining few of you loads of good labour vibes and looking forward to seeing some more announcements VERY soon.

Young mum - saw midwife and she did do a VE then sweep didn't ask about week over rules but I am speculing that the VE allowed her to assess the state of cervix as she said it is soft etc so I can do a sweep. I would descibe it as slighly uncomfortable but not painful and made me practice my breathing. Having said that reminded me of the less positive aspects of labour........but we are commmitted now

Fingers crossed something happens!

eeyoreuk · 31/10/2006 15:28

Hi youngmum yes i am in the same boat as you and still no movement. Went to hospital with bp again yesterday am 39+3 today. well speak soon eeyoreuk

OP posts:
BENDYB · 31/10/2006 22:43

hey every1,

Youngmum no news here, still had no more signs or anythin! Been at my mums 2day 4 my sis bday, just got back & had 2 come & check if any more babies had been born! My midwife said ur allowed a sweep anytime from 40 weeks so really I could've had 1 when I saw her mon but she said its better 2 c if anything happens naturally, Thats why I said I'd wait till next mon! But hopefully He gonna b here by then!!! Starting from 2mora I'm gonna try all the things again, curry sex etc! &some serious bouncing on my ball!!!

Thanks Emily 4 the sweep info doesn't sound 2 bad at all.

Any news from wuzz? She must have had her lo by now! Hopefully she has!

Speak 2 u all 2mora, hopefully some more babies will join us over night! xxx

Congratulations clon!!!!!

agrimum · 31/10/2006 23:50

I posted anna's arrival on the old board, and see that she has been kindly added to the stats. I am thinking of starting a thread.... raspberry leaf - how long was your labour? Mine from very first pang of pain was about 11 hours, although, my notes say it was 3 hours 19 minutes!!!

Anyway, will catch up on news later.

purpleluce · 01/11/2006 08:40

Morning - still here. Sweep appears to have induced the period type pains but no sig contractions, still lots of braxton hicks though.

Just goes to show, babies will only come when they are ready - I knew that why can't I get that into my head I have a bit of a cold at the moment and maybe that makes a difference... your body knows and we need to be in tip top condition to go through labour

youngmum21 · 01/11/2006 09:03

morning all,

well 40+3 today and still here am getting a bit frustrated again bout the waiting but wot the point it not going to make a diff is it!!!
I slept really well last nite even though i did wake up in a cold sweat not sure y must of been dreaming!!!

Well i must say we are all going to be nov mummies now except maybe wuzz!!!

Hope you are all well?? xx

Congratualations Clon and Agrimum. Great news.

Had relexology yesterday afternoon. It was good. She said my pituitary gland was big and ripe and that was a good sign that things could move soon. She said it takes two sessions to induce so going back on Thursday.

Have had a bit of a show since the sweep. Was told to expect bright red but this has been pink/brown jelly. Had BHs loads this morning and period pains.

But, who knows if it means anything?!!!

Gingeme · 01/11/2006 10:37

Oh wow Clon congratulations girl. Sounds like a good labour. Will look forward to the gory details on the birth announcement thread
Sounds like things are getting going for you too Emily.Fingers crossed.
