youngmum - haven't made any visitor plans will just wait and see how it goes. I hope something happens soon but it feels like nothing will ever start. All the relatives are phoning now to make sure they haven't missed out on anything!

BENDYB · 30/10/2006 13:35

afternoon every1.

Well done 2 katgod!

Youngmum- we have got dps mum, bro & sis comin 2 stay 4 a few days when lo born, Its her 1st grandchild & she desperste not 2 miss out on anythin! I dont really want people stayin here straight away, wouldn't mind after few weeks but not straight away! She has said they will stay in a hotel down the road & then spend the days with us & go 2 hotel in evenings, which i supose is ok, Dp thinks its mean 2 make them stay in a hotel tho! We cant agree on it either!!! Guess we'll just wait & c what happens!
Also my mum is taking 2 weeks off work when he born so she can come & help if we need her 2 & come & do some cooking cleaning etc 4us, she only lives bout 20 mins away so that'll b ok.

Got the midwife coming over in a bit, hopefully she gonna tell me something promising, That his head is fully engaged or something like that!

EmilyTurner · 30/10/2006 13:44

Hi everyone

Well done Katgod.

Due date today. No contractions or anything. The baby is pushing so hard on my pelvis that it has sent my legs into cramp spasms as I walk. My mum is coming over to take Molly out for the afternoon so I can rest. I feel tired today.

I don't think it is EVER going to come out!

purpleluce · 30/10/2006 16:12

Hi Guys

Cinema recommendation - I thought the departed was really good, all star cast bit of an action thriller, devil wears prada was OK, pretty formulaic and may do the russell crowe one this week if I am still here all week (hoping not!)

Oh yes and took dd to see about half an hour's worth of barnyard...what can I say they she is 3 and liked some of it then got scared a the coyotes

Re visitors - I had dd1 at home and am hoping to do the same this time. Last time she was born at 1.15 am, we stayed awake all night with adrenalin and had visitors none stop then my family came down for we. Went to whipsnade zoo at 4 days........clearly mad on endorphins.

Am determined NOT to do that again, as whereever baby is born, want to do some family nesting and am not planning on house guests for a while. I think it depends on how helpful your guests/family are...mine are hopeless so ended up playing the host 36 hours into motherhood - not a good move!

Equally, my friend's mum came down to stay for 2 weeks and was so helpful, getting up in the night that daddy didn't get a look in and ended up nervous/off the hook of helping out which isn't ideal either. On her second my friend didn't take house guests o/n for a good few weeks so they could settle in better. Obviously personal choice isn't it

youngmum21 · 30/10/2006 16:21

im just in a muddle bout visitors dp isnt happy that ive sed i dont want any at the hospital, well he isnt the one who has to go go thru labour and im worrying bout getting the help i need to breast feed and i just dont think i will with his family there!!!!

OP posts:
purpleluce · 30/10/2006 16:34

If you have a straightforward labour you may be free to go pretty early so visitors may not have time to get there anyway!

I think it should be your choice at the end of the day your precious lo will still be little 24 hours later, a week later and so on. Perhaps its one to just say to him can we call it at the time, see how we are all feeling.

I suppose on the positive side - if they all show up at hospital it is probably self limiting as number and visiting hours are restricted and you dont have to offer them tea and biscuits...all things you may have to do at home.

You may also be so high on endorphins that you are desperate to show lo off.

BENDYB · 30/10/2006 17:08

yeah I've said I dont really want visitors at the hospital either & hopefully if everything goes ok I wont b there long enough 2 have any either! I really dont wanna have 2 stay in there long!
True purpleluce depends how helpfull they gonna b, at least I no my mum & dps mum will not let me wait on them! They will b making food drinks &cleaning etc so I might actually b glad 2 have them there. I dunno tho, just have 2 c how everything goes with the labour etc.

Midwife came 2day, still only 4/5ths engaged!
She is coming to do a sweep next mon if nothing has happened by then! She warned me that it will b very uncomfortable! It doesn't sound that bad but then I think I remember people on here before saying that it was really painfull.
Any1 know???

DashingRedhead · 30/10/2006 17:12

Hi everyone - thanks for all your good wishes. We're moving but rather slowly. I've been going for about 14 hours now and the midwife came a couple of hours ago to assess progress. She says I'm doing well, the baby is fine, but I'm only 1.5cm so far. This was a little disappointing but she was very positive as she says it's about all the other things that have to happen before dilation.

The baby isn't posterior but isn't quite perfectly positioned either so that is probably slowing things down a little.

Now that it's happening and I'm starting to struggle a bit with some of the contractions, I'm wondering why I was in such a hurry!

Popsi · 30/10/2006 17:28

good luck drh - at least something is happening.
youngmum - i think if you don't want visitors in hospital they should respect that - but wait and see how you feel at the time.

wuzzlefraggle · 30/10/2006 17:48

sorry ladies that i havent posted sooner, ive been a little down in the dumps with not knowing whats really going on

went to the midwife this afternoon and she said im 3cm dialated (!!) that the cervix is soft and stretchy and that she could feel the head and could have easily broken my waters. she thinks that the baby will be on its way any time now (she did a sweep too) and has told me that if i want i can go in friday to start the induction process (which she thinks would only be the pessary gel for me)but that she doesnt think that im going to be around till friday oh yeah and she said that it would be unlinkely that i would have blood now (re the plug/show) as by the sounds my show has come away clean (yep, ive had huge amounts of that gross snotty jelly stuff these last 2 days)

since she did the sweep ive had lots of pressure and more pains in my tummy too.

so, how are all you lot? lol

oh, and congrats to all those that have had their babies!! xox

taffy101 · 30/10/2006 18:03

OMG WUZZLE! I so thought you'd had yours by now. Can;t be long now tho. Hang in there.

My SIL is due 16 Nov and I dreamt last night that she had hers b4 me and I was highly p*ssed off!! Not heard from her so has not come true.

Congrats to katgod

Went for another walk 2day had a few twinges but not getting my hopes up. Gonna have curry for tea tonite - try a different curry house to last time I think, might be stronger!

EmilyTurner · 30/10/2006 18:50

Don't worry Wuzzle. 3 cm sounds like you are nearly on your way. Same with you Dashing.

Those wanting to know what a sweep is like, well I am having one at 9.15am tomorrow at home so will post what it is like. I've not had one before as Molly came early.

I've not had a bloody show like last time either. It's just yellow brown snot stuff. Last time it was pink and thick.

I am still having huge pressure and the baby's head was so hard in the pelvis this morning it made my legs go numb in my inner thigh and I couldn't walk.

Looks like mine is a November baby. In a way that's good as I will have one child with an Oct 19 birthday (one pay packet) and one after payday!

BENDYB · 30/10/2006 19:37

oh wuzz! Thought u would have had her by now! But still good that ur 3cm, better than nothing! At least It should b soon now! What was the sweep like? I'm interested coz never thought it sounded that bad but how the midwife said it 2day was that it was really painfull!??

Yeah emily let us no what urs is like 2mora aswell!

wuzzlefraggle · 30/10/2006 19:52

dont worry about the sweep Bendy, it didnt hurt at all...it just felt strange and uncomfortable. midwife seems to think that the baby will be here b4 friday and advised me to sit on the qym ball and rock on it as much as possible. so woohoo, 3cms!! and ever since that sweep, the pains have been heavier too.

fingers crossed that we all get our babies soon eh?

purpleluce · 30/10/2006 20:16

Hi there - sounds like at least 2 of you are on the way...could be a busy night and some halloween babies, cool!

I don't remember a sweep hurting - am sure like all these things the more relaxed you are the less it will hurt so the mw telling you how much it is going to hurt isn't really that helpful!

Dashing - don't lose faith, on dd1 it took me about 3 days and a sweep to get to 3cm but then did 3-10 in about half an hour so just because the averages are 1cm an hour doesn't mean you have to be there all night. Tune into your body so you can contort yourself for baby to move into right position and once it is, am sure things will speed up.

Best of luck and fingers crossed all

BENDYB · 30/10/2006 20:25

thanks wuzz & purpleluce, yeah i didn't think they were meant 2 really hurt! My widwife is not really helpfull at all! I'm not really worried bout it anyway. hopefully he'll b here by then!

Lets all get on r gymballs 2 get things moving!!!

youngmum21 · 30/10/2006 21:03

wuzzlefraggle · 30/10/2006 21:14

i made a point of asking my midwife if using the gym ball would benefit and she said yes it will help things move along, so ive been bouncing about on it all evening lol

wuzzlefraggle · 30/10/2006 21:15

youngmum sounds promising!

BENDYB · 30/10/2006 21:30
