Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
40Weeks · 30/10/2006 14:31

OMG Charlee - I would sooo complain about that. How dare he? Go mad, they will then see that its easier to give you a new one than keep trying to fix it.
Also, another note of the monitors - I think they sell them on Amazon and usually you can read a buyers review so might be worth looking on there at the different makes?
NJ - no idea about the Tens Machine - all I know is the one I hired doesnt work so am hoping the new one will arrive before labour starts!
Just had a double decker - oooooh I havent had one for ages and it was lovely

40Weeks · 30/10/2006 14:32

Sorry for double post - PC wasnt going quick enough!

NatalieJane · 30/10/2006 14:53

Charlee, not only would I complain, but I think I would bag the clothes up and send them to comet demanding compo!! See if they will exchange the machine then!!

40weeks, isn't it annoying when things turn up broken?

Companies are always cocking things up, I have a contract mobile, when my old contract was 12 months old in June, I changed networks to 3 from 02, which I am quite within my rights to do, 02 are still sending me letters asking for me to pay £17 odd so they can reconnect my phone, I have told them over and over that I don't owe them anything or want my phone reconnecting, and on the phone they always say yes we can see it was cancelled and I don't owe them money, but still the letters come, I got one this morning from a bloody debt collection agency that they have passed it on to, so I have spent the best part of this morning on the phone again trying to get them to sort it out. Getting cross with them now!!

40Weeks · 30/10/2006 15:02

Dont get me started NJ - we are still trying to get money back from Sky for charging us even though we had cancelled our contract. And even though we stopped our NTL phone in May they are still sending us a bill every month, charging us £2 for not paying by Direct Debit - every moneth I write to them saying that we have cancelled this line as THATS why we dont pay by DD but they never do anything and am bored of calling as it takes at least an hour to get through....

....And breathe......

It just really annoys me that they are so rubbish and then try and make it your problem.

NatalieJane · 30/10/2006 15:15

LOL Don't these companies realise that they are putting the lives of their staff in the dangerous hands of very pregnant, very pissed of women???!!!

Council tax are the worst of the lot of them, I have never come across so much bull from one office than since we moved here. I had to ring 6 times to get them to even send me out a DD form! I had to keep going into the office thing to pay it, they don't mind taking the money, but they make it as difficult as bloody possible!!

40Weeks · 30/10/2006 15:26

Nightmare - in fairness though, I just called Tens Hire and they are sending me another one and a return envelope to send the broken one back in, so minimal fuss and the call only took 2 minutes. I wish they could all be like that.
I know what you mean about council tax though - they even talk to you on the phone and even though you note the date, time and who you spoke to, they still act as though they have never heard from you! And I am trying to get my maternoty allowance sorted as I am not entitled to SMP and even though I sent my forms off nearly 3 months ago, they still cant tell me whether or not I qualify for it. And I finish work on Thursday and its supposed to kick in then. And the number they give you is constantly engaged.

NatalieJane · 30/10/2006 15:35

Well, you can't really moan at their service then, although it is still a PITA for you.

I can't help with the maternity benifit thing, I have never been on maternity leave before so I have no idea how it all works. Can you make an appointment to see them about it on Friday so you can get it sorted out once and for all, if you are entitled to it, then there shouldn't be any trouble getting it.

40Weeks · 30/10/2006 15:47

Well I know I do qualify for it, because I have worked the required amount of time (i.e pretty much all the time except when I was made redundant) and I have paid my NI, but they should have written to confirm it. The thing is, if I ring my local office about they tell me to contact Stratford office (wrong side of London to where I am) and so I would have to cancel my midwife appointment to go there - and thats only if I can get through to them to arrange it! I just dont have any faith that they will take care of it all - and I know they got the application because they asked me to send my marriage certificate to them to prove my change of name!

NatalieJane · 30/10/2006 15:52

Perhaps you could make a fuss at your local office and ask one of them to get someone to contact you about it? Would your midwife not be able to do anything (I really haven't got a clue if they will even get involved in things like this!!)

I wish I had some better advice, it must be so annoying for you.

eeyoreuk · 30/10/2006 15:53

Well all back from the hospital again - why is it as soon as i get there my bp starts to drop and they are happy to send me home - have to see mw at clinic on friday i will be 39 +6 so am going to ask her to do a membrane sweep.

one good thing about the visit was they put a trace on lo and it is fine

NJ with the 15 quid tens machines they do not all have a boost button which the maternity ones have. i got mine for 50 quid from toys r us they sell them in store.

40Weeks · 30/10/2006 15:58

Yeah I might do that NJ - it cant hurt to go in there and ask them to look into it for me, and I will be in town on Friday anyway. I am sure it will be fine.
Glad to hear all is well with the baby EeyoreUK

40Weeks · 30/10/2006 16:01

Mygirl you deserve an award for your patience

NatalieJane · 30/10/2006 16:10

Mygirl, I have put it all in writing today to o2. Grrr at lawn mowing with the washing out!!

Eeyore, glad everything was OK at the hospital, annoyed for you though, you would have thought they'd have done something by now. And thanks for the TENS info, I had decided I was going to get the £15 one, and then thought I'll just have a little look at hiring one, and have found one that I think will do the job perfectly, so I am going to go for that one now! I think the nerves are starting to set in for the home birth, I hadn't ever considered using a TENS before this morning, and have now got it in my head that I can't do it without!! LOL How's that for pregnancy brain?!!!

40Weeks · 30/10/2006 16:17

Dont be nervous NJ, you will be in the comfort of your own home - what could be better (epidural, I hear you say....?) If its any help, there are some aromatherapy oils that are supposed to help - lavender, rose and jasmine are all good for childbirth - they dont help the pain per se but they are supposed to help relax you and that in turns helps the labour along. I just like the idea that the room will smell nice and its something nice to put in the bath and generally take my mind off whats happening!

purpleluce · 30/10/2006 16:28

Hi All

NJ - Eeyore is right about the tens boost button for labour, I found it really helpful in early labour with dd1 (had home birth) and to be honest you could use a tens now with your painful back/contractions so it is a worthwhile investment.

I hired one from hospital last time for 20 quid and have bought a maternity tens from ebay for 25 quid this time (figure I can sell it for roughly the same after) so you dont have to spend 50quid although it depends on how fast you want it of course! You just need to look at the detail on the ebay ones to check they have boosts.

One thing though, apparently tens is not as useful in second stage of labour(I used gas and air then and the good thing was, the tens had got me that far )so am hoping it will be the same again

I am officially sad and have sky plussed this morning and am watching it now how did I cope when working without daytime telly!

NatalieJane · 30/10/2006 17:00

LMAO at the epidural suggestion, it was already going through my mind as I was reading!! LOL

It isn't nerves about the labour itself I am feeling, let's face it, it is labour, it is going to hurt! I am more worried that I won't be able to do anything but scream, like I did last time, though I am really hoping that that was the pethidine and not just the way I deal with labour! I would really like not to have to worry about what to do with DS if I am screaming and scaring him. The whole point of the home birth is so that we don't have to leave him with anyone, because we don't have anyone suitable enough to leave him with, but I would rather him be with our next door neighbours than be scared watching his mum scream the house down.

But I suppose, we won't know what is going to happen until it happens.

NatalieJane · 30/10/2006 17:02

Meant to say, Purpleluce, I didn't use anything to push DS out, it would have just gotten in the way, I really needed to concentrate on the pushing and what the midwife was telling me to do, and apart from the infamous ring of fire, that was the quietest part of the whole labour!

Charleesunnysunsun · 30/10/2006 19:17

I have just returned from the hospital!

I had another small bleed and the pain down below was getting imense but im home again now, they did a trace on LO and im still having regular contractions, but bleeding has stopped.

They say the pain is severe SPD, they also alarmingly said LO is more then ready to come is fully engaged and my servix is well prepared. This worries me as this is exactly what my sister had and then promptly deliverd her dd on the bathroom floor. They basicly said the contractions i am having will eventually start doing something and i will probably suddenly go into labour and it will all be over very quickly so to keep alert and call an ambulance if i have any changes at all!

Im going to buy a plastic sheet for my bed and keep a supply of fresh towels in my room, luckily my mum has more than enough experience delivering babies. I am also going to write my details and put them next to the phone for dp should he need to phone an ambulance.
It's quite worrying as my contractions are already really painfull at times so im going to have to make sure someone is around at all times should i suddenly have a baby! scary but exciting!

No more sex though as i don't want to have to go to labour ward everyday for an anti-d injection.

purpleluce · 30/10/2006 20:22

charlee - sounds pretty dramatic!

oh god...thanks for reminder of ring of fire NJ, something to look forward to

DebbsyandBibby · 30/10/2006 21:32

woo hoo 2 more days to go b4 ml

eeyoreuk · 30/10/2006 21:37

Charlee - sounds like your lo is going to make an apperance real soon i am so jealous.

mygirl - i had pins and needles in my hand last sunday when i wnet to the hospital for my bp - they said it was carpel tunnel syndrom caused by the swelling in your hands

well going for a bath now to try and relax speak tomorrow eeyoreuk

chubley · 30/10/2006 21:54

Ooh, I don't come on here for 2 days and another baby's arrived! Congratulations, Mummy2Toby, Freya is a lovely name!

That vivid dream I had a few weeks ago that I had the baby on 30 Oct hasn't come true!! But then my dreams are always wildly off the mark!

I'm 39+3 now and nothing much happening, but as my other 2 babies both went over 40 weeks, I shouldn't be surprised and shouldn't really expect anything till at least next weekend.

I can sympathise with those with swollen feet - mine look awful by the end of the day. At midwife last thurs, bp and urine were fine, but although she was going to just see me fortnightly even at this late stage, she wants me in this thurs as well to keep an eye on things. Then if I go overdue, she'll come to the house to do a sweep.

Good luck to those about to pop!

Debz99 · 30/10/2006 23:04
