Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
harrogatemum · 21/11/2006 12:15

Kaybee - I know how you are feeling - my FIL is here, arrived last Wednesday and leaving tomorrow and still no sign of baby! He wont be able to come back until Feb or MArch so wont get to see his grandchild until it is 2-3 months old! Never mind, these things happen.

I am feeling fairly normal other than a strange feeling in my lower regions - almost like bones softening - does that make sense? Has anyone else felt it? Ignore me if I sound like a freak!

LadyAnne1stTimeMum · 21/11/2006 12:22

Hi Debbsy - Yes survived the shock - luckily I knew what to do - foot and leg seem a bit sore, but bump seems to have escaped with just a bit of redness. Talking of knowing what to do - I reckon I might do one of them baby first aid courses, I think they do them at our local clinic. Apparently instinct takes over anyway - but I like to take a belt and braces approach to most things.

It is boring at this stage - as soon as start to do something I get tired or uncomfortable - the cat and I keep competing over the office chair and the cat is winning, as even though I want to do some christmas shopping on the internet - I find it almost impossible to sit here for long periods of time and he takes the opportunity to swipe my seat as soon as I move. I feel so huge and cumbersome at the moment - grace and elegance is certainly out of the window!!!

Anyhow, See ya all later
LA

NatalieJane · 21/11/2006 12:58

Ouch LA, glad it doesn't sound too serious.
Kaybee, if the sweep is going to do anything, it would normally be within 48 hours.

Well she didn't do the sweep again, excuse number 1 was that the student midwife wasn't there (and she had asked to watch what happened), and excuse number 2 was after I'd told her whats gone on this week she has decided that there won't be a need to do a sweep because I'll have delivered within the week, but I made her promise (and write it on my notes) that she will do the sweep if I waddle into her office next week, but I decided against murdering her, I will probably need her next week! LOL

And before anyone says it, I am not getting at all excited by her thinking I will have delivered by this time next week, it was two weeks ago a midwife joked that she would see me later that day for the homebirth....!

I am really having fun with the taxi driver though, he gets more and more worried every week, poor bloke, I am only in his cab for about 4 minutes maximum, what he thinks is going to happen in that sort of time frame is beyond me!! LOL

calsworld · 21/11/2006 13:51

Afternoon all, hope all is well and sore bumps and bottoms are recovering.

Have a typical first time question - how many nappies should I have in stock and in what size, appreciate DH can go and grab more but would rather be as prepared as possible. I currently have three packs of 24 x newborn size (4 - 11lbs), which at 12 nappies a day (?) should last a week...does this sound about right - should I be buying some of the next size up as well....does it matter if i don't...oh god....i'm worrying about the most stupid stuff aren't I....anyway, if anyone could let me have any kind of advice (apart from taking a chill pill) that would be appreciated .

Love to all! C

saralou100 · 21/11/2006 14:25

nj, so glad you let the madwife live sorry you didn't get the sweep! so what if the student wasn't their? she'll get another opportunity surely! poor excuse i think.

calsworld, i have 2 packs of first newborn size, as you say dp's can run out at a moments notice for supplies!! i remember with ds he changed up sizes really quickly, so no harm in getting them in ready, hth

calsworld · 21/11/2006 15:02

Right, in that case shall make do with the stocks I have, which means that apart from popping out tomorrow to get some more nipple cream (i've run out before I've had the baby - WTF?) and some cheapy knickers from asda, I should be all set....at least I've got everything on every list i've made, except the christmas one...!

FoghornLeghorn · 21/11/2006 15:38

Afternoon all
Had my sweep done and also have a D41 appointment arranged for next week when I will be 41 weeks, although midwife assures me I wont need that appointment and she will be at my house by the end of the week with DH making her a cuppa checking over the new LO.

Fingers crossed she is right. Sweep wasn't painful but pretty uncomfortable, she said I am 1cm at the minute but cervix is still quite long but she assures me baby will be here by the time the week is out.
I'll be hunting for her if it isn't

calsworld · 21/11/2006 16:06

FHLH - excited or nervous? I'm excited for you.... but i'm not the one about to go through labour....fingers crossed (and legs not) that all goes well and it gets going soon for you!

FoghornLeghorn · 21/11/2006 16:16

Oh defo excited although I did have a few really strong contractions the other night and suddenly thought OH SHIT NOT AGAIN !

calsworld · 21/11/2006 16:34

I was getting excited...now am very nervous about everything; labour, rings of fire, breastfeeding, hygiene, tidiness (or distinct lack of), bonding, how many blankets to put on the baby....you name it...i've been worrying about it .

I know it should all just go away when I meet LO, but it just wouldn't be me if I didn't have something to mither over....and I'm not stressed, just can't stop thinking of questions that I don't know the answer to...glad I've got you lot though, far more useful than my DH, far less 'bossy' than my mum, and far more up to date than MIL!!!

saralou100 · 21/11/2006 16:44

foghorn, fingers crossed it's all go for you!! when i had my sweep with ds i was 1cm, and the next day i was cuddling him!! have sex, eat spicy food etc (thats what i did when i got home)

NatalieJane · 21/11/2006 16:50

LOL Calsworld, sorry I don't mean to laugh, it is just you have reminded me of how I was with DS before he was born. I actually printed out and stuck on the nursery wall, a table with temperatures on one side and how many blankets needed on the other LMAO I had forgotten all about it, but I can tell you now, not once did I use it, it really isn't a rocket science, if the room is a bit chilly use an extra blanket, if it is warm leave one off, and TBH, does anyones bedroom vary in temperature that much? I know you will have heard it so many times before, and it won't make a jot of difference until you have the baby and see for yourself, but you honestly won't need to have tables stuck on the nursery wall, it does all come naturally, even without you thinking about it!

God, I think I even remember ringing my sister and asking if the baby would need sleevless, shortsleeved, or long sleeved vests... LOL

crocoonimper · 21/11/2006 16:50

Hi
I have not posted on here yet but have been deriving great support from you all whilst waiting for my LO to make an appearance...
She finally arrived on 16 nov weighing 7 lbs 13 - olivia charlotte - 10 days overdue. I had a fantastic home waterbirth and Iwish all you ladies still waiting lots of positive vibes and It will ALL be so worth it very soon.
Hope to contribute more over on the post natal thread ...XX

NatalieJane · 21/11/2006 16:56

Oooops pressed 'send' too soon, meant to say as well...

Good luck to FHLH, the end is in sight!!
And Sara, to be fair the student midwife has been there every time I have been, she has been here to my house when they came about all of the homebirth stuff, and had asked me last week if I would mind her being there and having a go this week for the sweep, so from that point of view I didn't mind her using the excuse that the St. midwife wasn't there, I know some people have a bit of a hang up about students but I don't mind in the slightest, and she is about the same age as me so we have got on quite well, she has even said she will be making a special visit to see the baby if she doesn't come with one of the midwives on their rounds!

NatalieJane · 21/11/2006 16:58

crocoonimper - welcome and congrats I am also having a home water birth, so any tips would be great (If you can pull yourself away from your new baby girl - lovely names BTW!!)

crocoonimper · 21/11/2006 17:34

Thanks nataliejane
I had the birthpoolinabox set up in the kitchen(diner bit!). Had had lots of irregular contractions for 3 weeks, baby had to be turned at 38 weeks as breech, then went overdue, 2 sweeps, TOTALLY sympathise with all of you. finally started having regular contractions on the weds, every 10 mins, walked round town all day with DH, got home, MW said to ring her when 5 mins apart, DH got all excited and filled pool...and contractions stopped - aaarrrgh!
They came back at 4 am with a vengeance, 5 mins apart - you will SO know the difference between BH and real.
Tailed off again at 9am so MW broke waters - got into pool and from 10-30 til 2 pm when Olivia arrived were 4 every minute....
I only had gas and air for pain relief but would have not been able to manage that without the water - initially labouring in the pool was so ralaxing and in the later stages just felt right. Whwn I tried to get out afterwards my body kind of went into shock I think due to gravity!... I completely admire those of you labouring on land.
Having olivia passed up to me from uner the water when she finally arrived was indescribable - am welling up now remembering - soppy sod! but made it all worthwhile.
Afterwards the MWs were brilliant, cleaned up, stayed for 2 hours, just really supportive.
And best of all, my 2 DTs were at nursery all day and arrived home just in time to meet their brand new sister when she had been cleaned up and was all lovely!...All in all - couldnt recommend it more.
I hope you get going soon, ask me anything - Im still in the happy zone at the moment despite the lack of sleep! xx

saralou100 · 21/11/2006 18:16

i think i had the same chart on my wall for the blankets... nursey thermometers another one, mine always said too warm when i thought it was cold.. so how many blankets should i use?? then i threw them out!!!

i also remeber phoning my mum before i took ds out for the first time to ask how many layers he needed, what should i put him in? (it was february and snowing) we were only walking to a friends house at the top of our road! lmao now at the memories...

congratulations crocroonimper... shall see you on the other side when we finally get their!! i'll add you to the stats in a mo

nj, it's nice that you've built a good relationship with the student.. in that case i hope she gets to be at your birth!! don't forget i was one of those students once, hankering after every learning opportunity, and now as a mentor to students i just wouldn't not give a patient care because my student wasn't present, is all i meant earlier... but i hope she does get to follow you up!!

well i didn't get to use the trampoline earlier... maybe tomorrow. hips are really hurting today, boo.

beef bourignon
all in tupperware tins and in the freezer so that is well and truly it now i have now done EVERYTHING i planned to do b4 bibby comes.
Im going to bed now as all this cooking has worn me out lol

NatalieJane · 21/11/2006 22:48

Croc, I have the birth pool in a box one as well, how long did it take for yours to fill up, can you remember? We have the two bottom sections inflated fully, and have left the top ring half inflated, but we have an electric pump that only took 5 minutes to inflate up to now so the inflation won't take long, it is the filling it up with water that I can't seem to get a idea of how long it will take. Also, did it stay warm enough for long enough? And did you deliver the placenta in the water? Was it easy to clean the pool after? (DH is asking that, he already knows that side of things are his jobs!! )
FHLH, good luck again, I am hoping your birth announcement comes sooner rather than later!
Calsworld, sorry I wasn't laughing at you, I was laughing more at me, and how I was so anal about the smallest of things! I remember telling DH off for putting his hot cup of tea on the floor, when DS was less than a day old, because of course DS could have crawled out of his moses basket, toddled over to the tea and poured it all over himself....
Debbsy, Well done you!! Now you are ready, the baby will come tonight, you'll see

NatalieJane · 22/11/2006 04:03

Grrrrr! 4 o'bloodyclock, I have been having fairly irregular but mildly painfull contractions all night, wish they would either hurry up and do their dissapearing trick, or actually turn into something, I am so tired.

LadyAnne1stTimeMum · 22/11/2006 09:37

Well done Debbsy - I managed a few portions of soup and a three bean chilli - however that didn't quite make it to the freezer as DP spotted it. Still haven't finished sorting the spare room - boxes are diminishing but can't do much until weekend when DP can shift the heavier ones - I need to get room ready for when my mum comes to visit (she's coming from Warwickshire to help me through the first week and will hopefully be in time to be a second birth partner). As soon as DP shifts the boxes from the bed the sheets will be in the wash and after mum has gone home, and sister has visited (she's coming down the second week) - we'll be able to shift the saggy old bed and put up cot - finally baby will have it's own room and as the cot turns into a bed and should last four years.
NJ - how are you today? I've been feeling really sick and have a persistant dull ache in my lower back - I see the consultant this afternoon - so will see what she has to say ... I really do hope the baby turns up soon as I am genuinally concerned about how big it's getting.

Anyhow - better get on with life now - at least I managed a couple of hours sleep last night (sorry NJ) not full of energy, but should at least have enough to make myself presentable.

Good luck all

LA
