glad im not alone!

was funny when it was up i was looking at it thinking i cant wait until my gorgeous baby is in it and looking at it again and thinking omg im going to have a baby, how scary! Grin

mountainofdreams · 02/05/2015 18:30

I know it's a bit mad!!
How is your partner finding the beginnings of purchasing?
My dp was really worried before our first scan (only a couple of weeks ago), since we found out everythings ok he is all for purchasing and you can't wipe the smile off his face!! Smile

Theboxtrollsareallowed · 02/05/2015 18:30

Glad it's not just me that is anxious & can't feel movements - I know what you mean about threads & general internet - when you read stuff it can't help but go in a little bit.

I have a consultant appointment this week so hope they will listen to baby or do a cheeky scan as otherwise may have to book a private one as 20 weeks seems ages away!!

Glad I posted again, feels nice to be in the similar situation as others.

gingerbreadmam · 02/05/2015 18:43

im on countdown to next scan, 4 wks on wednesday. i did relax a lot after dating scan so hopefully that one will push me on a bit too.

my dp takes it all in his stride. he's a bit younger and me and at times it shows. im all baby baby house baby and tbf he is in the middle of a pgce and is all pgce work pgce drink boxing pgce so were not really on the same track yet but im sure itll come. im sure hes like if i hear one more think about this baby and im like if i have to hear anymore about what uni work your going to do. we rub along though so its all good Grin

mountainofdreams · 02/05/2015 19:04

Dp is still definitely more relaxed than I am and he is quite a few years older than me.
I think it's just a man thing!
I really want that Angel sounds doppler so we can both listen to baby at hkme.
Dp said he will buy it for me but I will have to prod him along to ensure this happens!

I work, study, volunteer and do other lessons and dp works long hours in a city job.
I am finding it hard to concentrate on everything with thoughts of the baby as well!!!

gingerbreadmam · 02/05/2015 19:09

i love the idea of a doppler but i fear i would just frighten myself with it plus i suppose soon you should be feeling movement and then it should be regular which will give you reassurance. if you want one tho and dp is buying i say go for it!

yes as much as we would like it to the world doesnt just stop because were having babies haha!

Toast85 · 02/05/2015 21:08

My DH is finishing a degree this summer, though we're pretty much the same age, he went back to uni to retrain for 3 years. At that point I was thinking my life trajectory was work, save, house then baby and his thoughts went back to being a student! He is super excited about baby but is also stuck in the middle of a dissertation, along with recent interview preparation and part time work. Luckily he has a job sorted just in time for the start of my mat leave!

oh toast thats great news. at least it should all come together for baby arriving!

my dp is doing pgce part time whilst working in higher education. he is fortunate that at the moment he has a temporary teaching contract but unfortunately this ends in june. he will go back in september but we wont know until he returns what kind of hours he will be contracted to so its a little stressful allmyownfaultthough . In hindsight i probably should have waited but after falling by accident last year then going through an mmc i just couldnt.

fortunately his family are generous and i know they will help should we (hopefully we wont) need it i am just a bit gutted that i could only end up taking 6months maternity due to the financial strain.

Toast85 · 02/05/2015 21:57

Can he apply for newly qualified teacher jobs? Or does he have to go back to his current one?
We started trying and fell pregnant literally first cycle, timed it so that if it did happen straight away then he would have finished uni by the time baby arrived, but we were both convinced it would take some time to actually happen. don't know why but we were. We were just lucky, although financially it will be a bit harder as otherwise we would have had time to save a bit of money after finally having 2 proper incomes again. Never mind, obviously I'm not at all complaining that we had an easy ttc journey, baby will be warm and fed and loved and we also know we have family support if really not coping financially (although hopefully it will be fine!)

OP posts:
gingerbreadmam · 02/05/2015 22:08

yes i was the same. my friend had mmc and took early a year after that to conceive i just assumed id be the same so was shocked when it was 6wks later.

he is in college working as support so he will go for tutor posts once he has his pgce but as he has worked in the same college for a while and has experience they brought him into a short term post for both their benefits. hopefully he will just go back into it in september but theyre a bit slow on sorting things out so we wont know until september / october.

you did well timing it like you did and great dp already has a job lined up. im sure financially you will be fine and as you say baby only needs a roof over its head and all the love you can both give it.

SomeSortOfDeliciousBiscuit · 03/05/2015 17:51

Hi all, I feel confident enough to come over here now. I'm quite active on the pregnant after miscarriage thread.

I'm 15+1 today and feeling huge! My DS was a whopper of a baby at just under 11lb and I think this one might be going the same way.

gingerbreadmam · 03/05/2015 18:14

hey biscuit great to see youve made the move. i spent a bit of time on that thread too.

congrats! big deal getting this far, im 15+3 by lmp (altho think and kind of hope from the size of my bump im further along!)

hope pregnancy is treating you well.

SparklesandBubbles · 04/05/2015 10:05

I'm super excited as DH and I are off shopping! We're going to check out prams and travel systems. Don't think we'll purchase anything yet as we are hoping to move before DC arrives. Not being that successful on the house hunting yet...everything is so expensive!
I had a consultant appt last week as I've only got one kidney so I now need to have my blood pressure and urine checked every 3 weeks!
For the last couple of days I've felt much more normal, sickness has almost gone which I'm so pleased about. Feel I can start focusing on sorting stuff out before Bubba arrives. It's finding time though, I work and am a volunteer manager for a national sports squad which takes up loads of my time too!

ooh sparkles how exciting! how far along are you?

good luck with the shopping its so exciting. ive kind of popped my shopping cork and want to shop shop shop but dp is holding me back haha!
any ideas what youre interested in or are you just going to have a look and see?

katsnmouse · 04/05/2015 17:46

Hi ladies, can i hop on board? I'm 14+4 with DC2. DC1 is 18mo so looking forward to two under two :P ! I'm due 29th oct but hoping for an ELCS as have discovered my pelvis is well wonky!

Is anyone else looking at double buggies, or has any experience of them? I'm so confused by them!

batfish · 04/05/2015 20:42

Hi to the newcomers!

katsnmouse I am on my first so haven't exactly looked at double buggies but we have bought the icandy peach 3 which you can buy an extra piece for to make it a double. We loved the all terrain version but you can't turn that into a double so we thought we would be sensible just in case we end up having 2 close together. That's as much as I know about that!

gingerbreadmam · 04/05/2015 20:46

i think when i was looking at the baby jogger that can be converted to a double. might be worth a look.

pelvis doesnt sound good poor thing. least if you know its an elcs you can get your head round it now.

gaggiagirl · 04/05/2015 20:56

kat welcome! There was a good post about double buggies on the October bus facebook group. PM me for an invite.
Otherwise someone with buggy knowledge will be along soon.

Ca55andraMortmain · 04/05/2015 22:02

Evening everyone, just popping to say helloSmile I read the thread most days bit haven't posted in a while! DH and I went shopping today too, got overwhelmed at prams and car seats but had a good play with slings and think we've decided on an ergo so it wasn't a totally wasted trip! Loving reading about everyone's purchases!

SparklesandBubbles · 04/05/2015 23:15

Ca55andraMortmain, glad you had fun today too. We enjoyed looking at prams etc today too. I love the bugaboo chameleon and iCandy options. Wondering whether we should go for a sporty option as I quite like running and hope to get back into it post pregnancy, but realise it will be winter and probably rubbish weather!

Welcome Katsnmouse! We went to John Lewis and they were really helpful with different options, there were definitely some double options. We suddenly thought maybe we should look at that option if we decided to have another soon after. One thing the sales lady did say was that bugaboo's really hold their value so you could trade it in for a bigger one if needed.

We didn't end up buying anything today, although I was quite tempted by a couple of really cute babygrows!

All that excitement meant I needed a 2 hour nap on the sofa when we got home!

Ginger, I am now 14+1 so still got lots of time to decide. Thinking it might be a good idea to wait until the sales in summer.

gingerbreadmam · 05/05/2015 08:39

im just debating this morning on waiting until august time for a pram. last year mothercare had a special edition orb out which i loved and i wonder if theyll bring out a similar one for this year.

spose with us having winter babies it might make sense to wait a bit for the winter prams to be released.

glad you girls had fun shopping!

Superexcited · 05/05/2015 10:29

This is probably going to be a stupid question (especially as I already have two children) but I was obsessing over looking at my pram a bit over the weekend (Jane epic with nano carrycot) and the pushchair seat says not suitable before 6 months of age. Obviously the carrycot will be used for the first few mot has but I can't see it lasting six months.
I checked other popular prams on the Internet and both the bugaboo and I candy (all the models that I checked) specify that the pushchair seat units are suitable only from 6 months. Obviously the carrycots can be used before then but what happens if your bubba has outgrown the carrycot and is still a fair bit off the 6 month mark? If they can roll over or sit in unaided they shouldn't be in the carrycot and some babies do that before six months.
I don't know what the reasons for these recommendations are as most of the pushchairs can lie reasonably flat anyway. When my other two children were younger they had travel systems where the seat unit could be used from birth and I just assumed that prams / travel systems were pretty much the same nowadays.
What have other people done / plan to do?

SparklesandBubbles · 05/05/2015 10:59

Good point Super. I hadn't even considered that. It's probably just some new health & safety guidance thing! I imagine if the child is big enough and strong enough to sit up by itself then in theory it should be fine to sit in the seat part. Although clearly I'm on my first and probably don't really have a clue! Perhaps that's when people use the car seat option on the pram a bit more as an intermediary solution?

Superexcited · 05/05/2015 11:09

I don't know because the guidance is that you shouldn't use the car seat for any longer than necessary as the positioning isn't great for spine development. I think it must be some new health and safety thing going OTT. Looking at the seat units I can't see any logical reason why they wouldn't be suitable before 6 months if baby is big enough to have outgrown the carrycot. Maybe it's to do with the length of the harness straps or something.....
