that is cheap super ive not seen it less than 150 anywhere tbh. it seems pricey but by the time you have bought a crib and matress and bedding or moses basket and stand theres not a lot of difference especially if its only 120.

dont suppose youre in the north east are you? that seems a bargain!

mountainofdreams · 28/04/2015 19:23

Ooh where was that Superexcited? I certainly haven't seen it that cheap!

gaggiagirl · 28/04/2015 19:24

This thread had fallen off my feed. Nice to read back and catch up with all the news.

mountainofdreams · 28/04/2015 19:28

Yeah I wanted to know anyway but didn't think to ask at my last scan.
Dp piped up and asked the sonographer and he reckoned it's a girl.
I guess it probably is a girl but will wait until the twenty week (under three weeks!) to buy clothes!!
I adore the Jules Oliver clothing in Mothercare and am imagining how lovely they would be on a little girl.
I have to admit I did buy the Lamaze my friend Emily dolly Blush.

gingerbreadmam · 28/04/2015 19:35

Grin thats just made me laugh! well im sure the sonographer was pretty confident to even mention it. roll on 3 weeks for finding out.

hey gaggia Smile

Superexcited · 28/04/2015 19:41

The shop is in the north west, a small shop called lesters nursery world, they do have a website but the price of the chicco next to me online is £150 so I don't know if they have special prices in store due to postage costs or something elseConfused. The pram I bought was £210 cheaper than their current online price.

gingerbreadmam · 28/04/2015 19:47

oh damn. well another website to check out at least. thank you.

sounds like you got a great discount on the pram!

mountainofdreams · 28/04/2015 19:56

Gingerbread, yeah he must have been!
I was just really surprised as I was convinced it's a boy.
Yes roll on three weeks! !
Have you bought much other than the blue dummies? Smile

Thanks for telling us the name of the shop Super, unfortunately it's too far for me Smile.

gingerbreadmam · 28/04/2015 20:05

just checked out the website,im liking the look of the easy walker mosey in new york blue. decisions decisions.

nothing else in colours and im glad now you have said you were sure yours was a boy.

i posted on mn for people to do the nub theory, didnt have many responses but the ones i did have said boy.

i have 4 dbs, my df has 4 dbs and 1 dsis and my dm has 3 dbs no dsis. dp's side is a pretty even mix tho.

mountainofdreams · 28/04/2015 20:37

Ooh that is nice.
It's very Bugaboo looking!
I'm getting the Bugaboo Cameleon classic in navy, I'm so in love with it (pregnancy makes you love weird things doesn't it?!).

I have one db and dp has two dbs! Smile

gingerbreadmam · 28/04/2015 20:49

oh well if it is a girl im sure the family will be over the moon. sounds like its been a while since they could indulge in girly things.

i like the bugaboo but bit out of our price range i think. navy is a lovely classic colour think it looks really nice.

will you be tempted to go all pink if it is a girl?

mountainofdreams · 28/04/2015 21:18

Exactly! And it will be the first grandchild on both sides!
Mil is practically planning on leaving her job to help out!!
Both sets of parents are delighted but none of my extended family (lots of aunts, uncles and cousins) have even messaged me or said congrats.
What about your family?

Yeah I agree, navy is gorgeous.
When we were told it may be a girl dp wanted to know if I would now get the Bugaboo in pink but I really prefer the navy!

I think I am quite girly and obviously the pink stuff is beautiful but I love neutrals for the big things (like navy bugaboo, black and grey bjorn bouncer and dove grey crib).
In choosing clothes I would go for a mixture of pink and brights!

What is your taste? Smile

LexiLexi · 28/04/2015 21:31

Ladies looking at Moses baskets, etc, I have heard really good things about SnuzPods, which convert into a cot for night time sleeps. You can remove one side of the cot so it can go alongside the bed for bf/ night time snuggles.

I would be getting one for myself but we already have a Stokke Sleepi, which is lovely too but not quite so portable.

mountainofdreams · 28/04/2015 21:37

Hi Lexi!
The snuzpod is absolutely adorable looking.
It looks small in pics compared to the Chicco though admittedly I have never seen it in person!
A sister of bil gf is expecting twins and is getting the Stokke for them.

gingerbreadmam · 28/04/2015 21:42

ive seen the snuzzpod looks really good.

oh first grandchild on both sides, lovely. bet everyones really excited! thats great. be completely spoilt and i bet they help out lots.

at least if you dont get a gender specific pram you may get to use it again. navy is very nice. same with all the other things if theyre neutral might get more use out of them. clothes sound nice i imagine easy to get sick of the one colour.

my tastes, i really like babies to be babies so lots of babygrows, knitted things, dungaree sets and not many outfits as such. dont like jeans on babies or stuff with characters on or mummy (i prefer mam, just what were called where i live ha). so thats about it really.

mountainofdreams · 28/04/2015 21:54

Exactly! I fully intend to store and use everything again for future dc's!
Who wants that effort and expenditure each time!

I'm kind of the same, I love the little cardis on sale in John Lewis and the traditional English looking brands.
Absolutely hate jeans and sports stuff on babies!

LexiLexi · 28/04/2015 22:08

Another vote for navy and knitted things, although I do prefer outfits to babygrows, I always get so muddled with all those poppers round the legs!

For my little boy I used to dress him in vests and soft jogger trousers, which looked nice and comfy. Mountainofdreams I will be passing my son's navy coats, amongst other things to our next DC

Oh and cute hats, you can never have too many!

Ladypug · 28/04/2015 22:10

Hi Mountain, I'm 15 weeks. I know what you're saying about needs but I honestly don't have a clue, everyone's comments sounds like a foreign language to me! How do you all know what you need/want? What is the difference between them? Why do you need a crib and a cot? What is a Moses basket for? What makes the difference between a good pram and a bad pram? Most importantly where are you learning all this stuff? How do you all know so much already?

mountainofdreams · 28/04/2015 22:34

Aww don't worry Ladypug, I know there are a million products out there!
Basically I looked at reviews for each product on mumsnet, looked at reviews/ratings on amazon, signed up to the Which website and looked at products in person.
If it makes it easier here is my rationale for certain large products I'm buying..

Chicco next2me crib -

  1. I read on forums that many people found moses baskets usless and quite small, when I looked at them in Mothercare I felt the same and didn't think it would last very long.
  1. I wanted a co -sleeper as I will be breastfeeding. This crib attaches easily to the bed and is a good size.
  1. It has good reviews and a good price? The latter was important as it will only be used for 6 months.

Britax Dualfix car seat '

  1. It's rear facing which is supposed to be best, it's also isofix which is safest.
  1. It has good reviews
  1. I did originally also consider the cybex sirona however I hated it when I saw it
  1. It lasts from birth +, other rear facing car seats I liked were not from birth which would mean I would have to purchase an infant car seat also.

Bugaboo Cameleon

  1. I like the fact it's neat looking.
  1. I can easily assemble it, fold it and carry it which is important as I will be regularly travelling alone with it?
  1. Good height adjustment.
  1. Easy to push.

Baby Bjorn Carrier -

  1. Good reviews but not a product considered good by the babywearing community. I plan to only use a carrier whilst in an airport setting (before and after flight) whilst I'm waiting for my Bugaboo to come through with the luggage so I didn't feel I needed to invest in something great.
  1. Good value and I got it on significant discount

Baby Bjorn Bouncer

  1. Very good reviews
  1. Supposed to be good for baby and suitable from newborn
  1. Folds flat which is good as we can bring it to local grandparents easily
  1. Very aesthetically pleasing

Hope that helps! Smile

mountainofdreams · 28/04/2015 22:35

I did not realise my post would look that big!! Grin

SparklesandBubbles · 28/04/2015 23:50

Ladypug, don't worry I'm definitely in the same boat as you. Being my first I feel a bit clueless about all this stuff. Even though I have lots of friends who have kids and clearly seen all the kit they have I feel a bit overwhelmed where to start!
Think I need to make a list and go from there. As I'm a bit older lots of my friends have had their DCs and are stopping so they have said they may well have loads of stuff to give to me which will definitely help on the cost side.
Certain things I will get new though, like a mattress etc. To be honest I've barely thought about it. I'm so busy with work and have been flat out at weekends too I've barely had time to stop and think about all this exciting stuff!

Mountain, thanks for your rationale on the products you've bought. Useful info.

toobreathless · 29/04/2015 01:20

You really don't need much lady somewhere for baby to sleep in (unless you plan to co sleep) either a pram or a sling to transport baby and a car seat. And I absolutely agree with sparkles take anything friends/family offer and then you have more money to spend on the 'fun' stuff!

I would advise against buying a sling now as you are better off checking out your local sling meet when baby is here and trying lots of different ones out. There are about a million different variants out there. The only ones I would say avoid are the baby Bjorn type ones, they are not good for the baby's hip development. My favourite for my newborns has been the Moby wrap.

We have a bednest so watching the latest publicity in the news carefully! Our tesco is selling off their own brand nappies in sizes 2 and 3 for £1 a pack (33nappies) so we now have plenty of those sizes hidden away.

We will def be finding out the gender, we already have two girls. I have a sneaky suscipion it's a girl but we will see. DH would like a boy I think, I don't mind. Four weeks to go until our scan!

Superexcited · 29/04/2015 07:15

ladypug this is dc3 for me so I have previous experience of what to look for and consider when buying baby equipment. We are starting from scratch as our youngest is over the age of 10 so we got rid of everything years ago.

What is important to me:

Pram: I like travel systems where the pram, pushchair seat and car seat all fit onto one chassis without the need for any adaptors. I like being able to lift baby out of the car in his car seat if he is sleeping and click the car seat straight onto the chassis.
Folded size and weight is also important for the pram as even ones that look small can struggle to fit into car boots.

Sleeping: something that will fit into my bedroom and be big enough for baby for at least 9 months. Moses baskets were redundant after a few weeks with my older children, especially as dc2 was 10lb at birth. We are going for a drop size petite cot this time.

A good padded bouncer chair or swing is on my list because neither of my babies liked the thin cheaper ones.

Lots of bedding is on my list because there is nothing worse than running out of clean cot sheets when baby has puked for the fifth time in a night.

I don't have any other essentials except the smaller things; baby clothes, nappies, breast pump, bottles and steriliser.

gingerbreadmam · 29/04/2015 07:24

i'm clueless too so i wrote a list of what i think i need (even down to vests) then i discussed it with my dm to delete the things i didnt really need.

along the way i will chat to friends and colleagues and see if i can get it down any further.

for prams i just kept noticing other peoples prams when out and about at first and keeping in mind the style that i liked. i have been to pram shops to have a look aee prices etc and see what they do then i guess u decide what you need it to do for you. for me i intend to walk lots but also use the car regularly so i need to consider all that. i want something comfy for the baby that will last and my dp is happy to push.

the sleeping thing, we have so many options nowadays but if you talk to parents (my dm is relatively young) in there day they just had a cot and a pram top if they were lucky. its tough thought knowing whether things changed for safety reasons or whether things changed as people had better incomes or whatever. all things to think about.

i noticed someone mentioned baby monitors. thats one thing through all this ive thought im definitely going to hold out on. if baby is in with us i doubt we'll need them and when they get to 6 month i imagine a basic set will do the trick.

also baby bath, ive seen people fill them carry them around theyre a faff. you can get a foam support for about £8 u stick in your bath. sounds like all you need. ive seen so many ppl on mn regret top & tail bowls too. anyway jus some thoughts ive had.

Ladypug · 29/04/2015 14:25

Wow thanks so much everyone, looks like I've got lots to catch up on! I was thinking I had nothing to do, just waiting around for the 20 week scan - looks like there's lots I should have been doing! Will start making a list based on your notes x
