This is my first birth of any kind allstoppedup, I'd been kind of leaning towards homebirth but didn't think I'd be allowed to first time, mentioned it to DH and he was on the fence, but after talking to MW we're both really keen. Just have to keep hoping the pregnancy is smooth and problem-free so we actually get our homebirth Smile

I'm glad you're getting the test so soon nonny, less time to wait. Fx for you Flowers

boredandtired31 · 27/03/2015 15:23

Hi everyone, I'm a bit late to the party but have only recently been well enough to use a computer. I'm 10 weeks with 1st pregnancy by ICSI. Had some complications with the IVF and then severe nausea (now under control) but has left me quite ill. Been bed bound for 4 weeks and off work for 6 so far. Heart rate shoots up when I stand up due to all the problems and makes me very weak and dizzy. Fingers crossed the magical 12 weeks will bring some stability.

Feeling brighter this week and hoping to get a wheelchair and make it out of the house for some fresh air.

So lovely to see all the scans and my fingers and toes are crossed for you Nonny.

Allstoppedup · 27/03/2015 15:26

Ahh! I would have loved to with my first but I was too scared! Ended up being induced 2 weeks overdue anyway so doubt homebirth would have been allowed anyway! Good luck with yours scatterbrained

Choccywoccydodah · 27/03/2015 16:32

Hope all goes ok Nonny! Extra worry you just don't need!

I'm in the home birth club!! Really wanted to with Ds but was too scared. Had a quick textbook easy birth with him yet he was born at 4.25am on the saturday, and I didn't get out of hospital until 12pm the Sunday! I was livid and all it was is DS had to be checked over but they were short staffed. I've never been in hospital in my life and my mw who delivered said I'd be home by lunchtime. So with that I'd like a home birth this time. I'm a bit nervous though as this time our local proper hospital if there's a problem is 25 mins away.

Allstoppedup · 27/03/2015 16:38

Yay! You too choccy

I was in hospital for 3 nights following my birth, I still have no idea why. DS was healthy and breastfeeding, I was up and about (did have forceps delivery following my induction) with no ill effects. It was exhausting as it was too hot and loud to sleep even when DS was resting- I should say they were great for his delivery but I still think everything will be much calmer at home. I'm luckily only 5 minutes down the road!

My sister is a midwife and has said theres no reason homebirth should be a problem this time round! I'm hoping my midwife agrees!

Choccywoccydodah · 27/03/2015 16:59

We've got a hospital but it closed its maternity ward about 20 years ago and the a&e closed about 2 years ago.
My mum is a retired MW and she's all panicky about it, I think because of all my losses and this being her grandchild there's another reason for it tbf. But the thought of hospital gives me shivers, and it's huge!

Allstoppedup · 27/03/2015 17:04

Ahh boo choccy

I've started up a homebirth ante-natal club thread so I stop derailing this one with my excitable yammering! Feel free to hop on scatterbrained and choccy - I'm hoping there will be lots of experts who I can pick the brains of when it becomes more of a reality!

AnnaBegins · 27/03/2015 18:52

Loving all these scan pictures! We had our scan today, have put a pic on the fb group, very blurry as baby would not behave! And edd moved to 27th sept so please don't kick me off the October bus Wink

crazypuglady · 27/03/2015 19:45

Id love a home birth but our local hospital don't have maternity services any more so DH is panicking about the transfer time if anything goes wrong. I'm still hoping to convince him though.

Ladypug · 27/03/2015 21:18

I'm leaning towards home birth too as I seriously don't like hospitals and I just think I would be more relaxed. I'm seriously bricking it about the scan in a few weeks as I have to have blood taken! I'm such a wuss! :-( X

NonnyBunny · 27/03/2015 21:29

Hello and thanks again SO much to all of you for your kindness. It has really helped, especially today when I was feeling very low.

We had another scan when doing harmony test today and saw a consultant dr for first time, and he was much more positive. His nuchal fold measurement was about 6mm smaller than the sonographer's estimate yesterday and only 4mm outside cut off point for a normal nuchal measurement (although still v clearly too big). He also said that the nasal bone was there (often missing for Down's), heart looked and sounded fine, no fluid anywhere else and baby very active. He said things are 'more likely to be fine than not'. We are still v high risk but I do now feel that there is hope at least, and we're both feeling much more positive. The results should take 10-12 days which isn't as long as I was expecting either. It will be one nerve wracking phone call but I will try to worry about that closer to the time!

I'm not sure I'd like home birth myself but that's mainly because my house is too chaotic - 3 cats and a dog and my DH not the tidiest! Plus I'd be worried about enough pain relief being available!

batfish · 28/03/2015 06:34

nonny I'm glad you had a more positive scan - hopefully with lack of any other signs your baby is absolutely fine but what a horrible wait for you. It's times like this I wish we could go into hibernation for a couple of weeks and be woken when it's all fine!

Wow you're brave having the home births, the thought terrifies me. It is actually illegal where I live but I just don't like the idea of not being in a hospital if anything doesn't go to plan. I must have an unlucky bunch of friends but I hardly know anyone who has had a straightforward delivery - a few emergency c sections, another friend's baby struggled to come out and broke his arm in the process and ended up on a ventilator and my sister in law delivered vaginally but lost a lot of blood afterwards and had to have 2 transfusions - so even if the option was there I'd be wanting to be in hospital just in case. Like I said I must have an unlucky bunch of friends as know that the vast majority will be completely especially those on 2nd or 3rd babies. I'm just a scaredy cat haha

whoknew28 · 28/03/2015 08:13

Nonny - so pleased you had a more positive outcome at the scan, really hope the results confirm it for you.

Batfish, I'm with you - I want all the facilities, drugs and doctors on hand just in case! Had my booking in appt yesterday at the hospital, it was actually really nice and my midwife is so lovely. Relieved! She also gave me the green light to not have to lift anything today, as we're moving house, so poor DH is doing everything. Ah well Wink

Choccywoccydodah · 28/03/2015 08:21

Same as us crazy, we just have a waste of time hospital 5 mins away! It's ludicrous especially as in the last 10 years our town has built about 10,000 new houses!!! But we do still have community MWs so quite lucky there I suppose.
We have a massive university hospital 25 mins away, where Im being seen for my trial, but I'm more terrified of being there! At the end of the day it's down to baby and if the recommend I go in, I'd go in.

Bat most of my friends have been unlucky too, retained placentas, stuck babies, massive tears, but ds was a strait forward birth for me, and all I had was gas and air throughout and 1/4 dose pethadine near the end (MWs here thought that was funny as they only offer full doses here-we were in Wales at the time).
My pain threshold is very little but I managed ok. I wanted a water birth but had to choose that or pethadine and the pethadine won (even though I didn't actually feel any less pain!)
Ended up with 2 stitches without pain relief too and I think they hurt more!!

Adventuregame · 28/03/2015 10:06

Hi Ladies
So having been problem/symptom free the whole time I just woke up, went to the loo and when I wiped there was bright red on the tissue. Not a huge amount but enough to make my heart jump to my mouth and more than just spotting. Nothing more at the moment. Sat on sofa drinking milk and chocolate hoping it was just one of those things. DP not back til Monday then we have 12 week scan on Wednesday. I've had a constant worry for a few weeks that it may have stopped growing as boobs weren't sore anymore which had been my only symptom ! I know this has happened to a few of you and I know if it is the start of an MC then there's nothing I can do so I'm trying to just stay calm and see how things go today ?? Gulp !

batfish · 28/03/2015 10:46

adventure I know much easier said than done but try not to panic, was it much blood? Have you had a poke around to see if there is any more or just one little bit? Hopefully just a tiny bit from things being stretched around and nothing more. And (without meaning to sound patronising) did it def come from vagina? Just because I had a number 2 the other day and wiped and there was bright red blood and I had a small heart attack before investigations revealed it wasn't from where I thought it was! Hope you're OK, I know how slowly time goes when you're worried.

Allstoppedup · 28/03/2015 10:58

Great news nonny so glad you had some more positive feedback. Hope your results come through quickly.

adventure how scary for you. You sound like you are handling it well. Good luck on Monday and as PP have said, hopefully it's just from everything stretching out as it should.

I'm close to the hospital so if issues arise it should hopefully be a fairly quickly transfer! I'm hoping to manage on gas and air as I did have pethidine last time Confused. Aside from being a little bit worried about needing pain relief, I'm looking forward to giving birth at home and being able to snuggle down in my own bed with both DCs. Grin

Hopefully we will all have well behaved little beans and get the births we all hope for!

Adventuregame · 28/03/2015 11:07

Batfish hi !
I'm pretty sure where it can from although i was doing number 2 as well (my friends would howl at this as it's common knowledge I can't discuss bodily functions) ! There's not been anything since and I did have stretching pains when I woke up similar to when I first found out I was pregnant so hopefully it was just something getting dislodged but not the main inhabitant in there !!!

batfish · 28/03/2015 12:46

Haha adventure I know - I am horrified by the things I tell strangers on the Internet! But even more than the 'which hole did it come from' chat I'm very upset that I have to tell people I'm bloated as that is my most hated word, I've never understood why people feel they have to tell me they're bloated! But now I have to say it as otherwise people are thinking I'm 'showing' and I'm pretty sure it's not the baby yet that's making me fat.

Speaking of getting fat - none of my jeans will fasten up today. I wouldn't mind if there was any bump going on but I just seem to be generally expanding everywhere. Not really sure what to do about this situation as I would feel like an idiot buying maternity gear now but then no point just buying bigger normal jeans!

Ladypug · 28/03/2015 13:51

I've started buying flowing tops and leaving my button undone on my jeans, feels like heaven! I can breathe again :-)

Taranta · 28/03/2015 16:37

Hi all, been hanging on the FB bus but popping back to say hello. Wanted to offer you some reassurance if I can too, Nonny as I've just been through a week of horribleness waiting for my CVS results after a worrying scan last Monday. My situation was a little different inasmuch as scan showed a soft (hypoplastic) nasal bone and by bloods were horrific - 7 x the normal amount of bHCG which gave me a scary 1:14 risk of abnormality. I couldn't have harmony so had to have CVS. Finally at 5pm got the all clear on the three major trisomies and although I've got to wait for full karotype I feel so much more relieved. I'm keeping all my fingers and toes crossed for you, I really hope you get good results and that your DH is taking good care of you in the awful wait. Good idea to take time off too, I took the week off as there was no way I could focus on anything else. I found posting on Antenatal Tests thread too, there's lots of lovely people there Flowers

catness1 · 28/03/2015 16:37

I've taken to looping a hairband through my buttonhole and over the button of my jeans, then I don't have to rely on the zip :) I actually had to buy maternity trousers for work a few weeks ago. All my normal work trousers were just too tight for how bloated I've been and I figured I'd need them soon enough anyway!

nonny I'm so glad the news is looking more positive. I'll keep my fingers crossed for your results.

Fizzy13 · 28/03/2015 17:02

Nonny my nephew was classes as high risk and he's now your average 6 yr old. Whatever it come back as its still a probability until harmony etc says yes.

Adventuregame · 28/03/2015 18:11

8 hours later and I've just had a bit more blood ! Don't know what to think really. I was sure it had stopped but obviously hasn't !

Choccywoccydodah · 28/03/2015 18:25

Adventure I'd phone epu if yours is open 24/7, they normally can't do scans until weekdays if it's the same as here (warwickshire), but you can ask their advice.
Mine was pinky red once at midnight, then had it again that afternoon. Due to my history they had me in for a scan, but she did day red blood is more of a concern but if only spotting it's usually nothing. Please call someone x
