Thread 12 Shock Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend. Went to IKEA this morning to buy some bits and pieces for the new house (less than three weeks until we move in now!) and has it left me absolutely wiped - was wandering around complaining as my lower back was so sore. This is very unlike me, I usually love IKEA! Compensated by eating a huge amount of chocolate as soon as I got home Blush

Also remembered to buy a big Tuppaware for my placenta to go in after I give birth! Grin

We popped into new house to drop off some paint, they are still making great progress which is reassuring. Floor sander started today on a couple of rooms as well - exciting.

I'm hoping our snuzpod has all the correct parts - haven't opened it yet as seemed easier to move it flat packed! Ditto the pram, car seat, isofix... everything is in boxes in our current sitting room.

Am currently defrosting our current freezer - it's a total disgrace. Not a fun job. Still, having a massage tomorrow so it's worth getting chores out of the way today!

Sorry this is a very rambly and selfish post, will read back now...

34+3

cinnamongreyhound · 28/02/2015 14:19

Hi mumhum, we share a due date Smile

Sorry to hear you're still in pain skyra13, could it be something hard of baby digging in?

I watched the programme and do kind of wish I had their conviction to get what I want! I don't understand the placebta thing, the point it you remove it because they don't need it once oxygen and food is coming from somewhere other than the mothers blood stream! The free birth is scary if there's a problem but perhaps if you're very close to a city centre it's not such a risk, I'm quite rural and a 30min drive from closest hospital.

Sorry that you felt so bad Misty414, sometimes hcp do differ and I don't know the thinking behind delaying or doing it sooner. Have a look for baby spinning positions and if you really think it's too late, go back and see someone else.

Nunkie · 28/02/2015 14:20

Skyra, Im chuckling at Rosemary placenta... DP came up with a lovely idea of planting a maple tree in our garden when Peanut's born, so I suggested burying the placenta under it as plant food. Then I realised it's probably get dug up and eaten by a fox, so we might skip that step! Wink

dancestomyowntune · 28/02/2015 14:22

That woman with the placenta that she carried around for a week or so knows my husband. He said she runs a baby business and sends a lot of products to Australia!

Can't say I fancy that though. Reminded me a bit of the ood in Dr Who, the ones that carried an orb around with them. Very strange!

MoominMama22 · 28/02/2015 14:31

I've been watching it in installments throughout the day. I quite liked the Manchester lady but at the bit I'm at she is labouring at home and I had to stop watching because I was scared she was going to have a bad birth and I just want to watch something positive!
I don't get the carrying around rotting organ until it falls off, I don't believe that's of any use, or the "wild" and "natural" thing to do as she claimed.... Why would you carry around something which could attract predators never mind flies as it rots? Separation causes anxiety for baby?wtf? I just don't see any possible benefit.

Lauren82000 · 28/02/2015 14:32

Brixton my mum swears by her hairdryer to get the freezer defrosted in no time. Minimal scrapping just brash and mop up the water.

BrixtonBunny · 28/02/2015 14:38

Lauren that's a fantastic idea!

Can't wait until we move and have a "no need to defrost" freezer.

skyra13 · 28/02/2015 14:38

Lol love how her little girl pulled a face at it when she showed her it, surely its going to stink its going to rot like you carrying a zombie about Confused

But it is all personal choice so fair enough to them but not for me same as eating it also, I love a rare steak but that's a bit to far for me :) Lol to the ood comment dances

It could but little one up in my chest to be honest its eased of the pain but just feel pretty poop had a headache to but gone after some painkillers, start to panic at times if I feel a bit poo as my consultant drummed into me about pre-eclampsia.

Cinnamon think I would be to scared to free birth also as I'm 40min from the hospital!

I have got my car seat but needed an isofix base so had a look on ebay an sum1 30min from me selling 2 bases and a car seat for 35pounds! So got my self a bargain so both me and dh now can have a car seat in our cars with bases very handy!!

MoominMama22 · 28/02/2015 14:39

Sorry missed a whole page when I posted then.
Hello Mumhum :)
Sorry dances didn't see your post , that there's a connection there! I don't mean to offend everyone should do whatever they thinks best but I do tend to agree that its very strange!
At least delayed cord clamping, even eating placenta I can see the reasoning behind it but that Thing with the seasoning on it? Can't get my head around it!!Confused haha!

PenguinPoser · 28/02/2015 14:42

moomin it's ok to watch the rest it's not bad! My DH was pretty Shock at the placenta carrying and smoothie making. The smoothie actually looked ok!

Brixton on the plus side the company are great at sending out replacement parts in the unlikely event that you're unlucky like I was with the snuzpod! It's all sorted now and looks great! House is now a tip with that built and the pram and nowhere for it all to really go...! Off to the tip with all the boxes now.

MoominMama22 · 28/02/2015 14:45

Thanks for letting me know its safe penguinGrin
Sometimes just need some positive can do birth stories you know?

Still haven't built SnuzPod as so short of space but will maybe try to look at pieces and make sure its all as it should be.

AnniaFausta · 28/02/2015 15:31

Hi all - it's been a busy week with work and with our first load of NCT classes, so I've just caught up on stuff since Wednesday!

Welcome to all the newbies. As you may have realised, we mainly natter here :)

On the subject of exercise balls, I tried one out at our NCT class this morning for the first time and it was lovely. Any recommendations for brands etc. welcome!

Penguin, gosh, that inducation date really is close! But very glad they're happy to wait for 37 weeks. Tiny, yours is so close too!

Updates on this end... had my first proper disturbed night on Thursday (as in, more than just getting up for the loo). Woke up with a screaming cramp down my right side and lay there wondering whether I was in fact in labour (which would have been a problem given I was staying over at work, not at home). It took about 20 minutes for it to become clear that what I in fact had was trapped wind, and about another hour (and a cup of hot water) for everything to calm down enough for me to get back to sleep. Left me rather woozy on Friday, sadly, but all's well that ends well.

Our decorator is currently putting the yellow paint on the walls and the white paint on the woodwork of the nursery, and it looks lovely. Now all we have to do is decide on what colour carpet we want...

I have no charts with percentiles etc. but then I'm not getting much info on that stuff full stop - they seem remarkably laid back about that so long as the fundal measurement is roughly where it shouldbe.

NCT classes are turning out to be more about getting ourselves in the mindset of what's actually going to happen than necessarily getting any new information. Because I'm the sort of person I am(and, erm, because I've been hanging out on here with all you lovely ladies and I absorb information like a sponge!), most of it's at least partly familiar, but some don't seem to know very much at all. And two couples are moving house in the next fortnight, which feels like madness to me!

The BBC program was mentioned this morning, but I'm not going anywhere near it... It'll freak me out, however lovely the births are!

smogsville · 28/02/2015 15:32

Placing marking. 62 posts already!

TheBooMonster · 28/02/2015 15:46

welcome mumhum! Shall get you on the stats list! I'm thinking of putting it on a google sheet, that might make it easier to edit...

I watched the child birth programme, I have to admit I'm with the c-section lady, I like the safety of the medical folk, and a bit jealous of her having a shiny photo shoot 48 hours after the birth with her hair all lovely! Lotus births and placental chowing are definitely not on my list of things I ever want!

Hi everyone hope you've all had a good start to the weekend.
Welcome to the newbie!

It's been another eventful day today after last night (with the contractors coming out to see where the flat downstairs leak was coming from).
They were still none the wiser and are coming out on Monday to start digging up the floors to check the pipes underneath Confused
Apparently deep down in the floors it contains asbestos so we'll have to wait until Monday for them to tell us how far they think they'll need to go down into the floor.
Were thinking the worst case scenario is that they're going to have to dig down to the point of asbestos, obviously condemn the flat for a while and uproot us to a hotel of some sort.
I'm trying to see it as a blessing that we hadn't yet brought all the baby stuff home from my mums house yet, and also that we've not had baby yet.
Although on Monday I will have 7 weeks left to go so I'm feeling a bit down and almost as if we haven't got a 'home' now.

Anyway I'm trying not to overthink it as I've been doing that most of the day! A night at my mums tonight as my partner is going out for his work friends leaving do which has been planned for weeks and I suppose he needs to de-stress somehow. I wasn't going to stay at home as the heating and hot water has been turned off for the time being. Lots to try and sort out tomorrow with packing things away for the worst case scenario, and so that the workmen can get the floor up. Confused

ChickenMe · 28/02/2015 16:57

Hi Annia I got my ball in Decathlon. Just a sports one. Size large. I do love it so hope you will find a good one too.
I've noticed the exact same thing in my class. I seem to have heard of loads of stuff and no-one else had! Basically cos I'm always trawling through MN. I feel like I have to research everything! I'd looked up the hospital and it's policy on breech births, CS, anaesthesia bloody everything! Some of the mums hadn't heard of the MLU; I think I am a bit obsessed!!

AnniaFausta · 28/02/2015 17:07

Sorry, Chicken, when you say size large, can you do that in cm? There seem to be 65cm and 75cm ones about, and I have no idea how you choose which one's right for you...

Lauren82000 · 28/02/2015 17:17

Think it's if your 5'7 go for 75cm if your shorter go for 65cm

BrixtonBunny · 28/02/2015 17:19

Annia we'll be moving house when I'm 37+1 Grin Not ideal but we needed so much done to the house and only completed on Feb 6th. Someone else in our NCT class is moving in May when their baby will be a few weeks old so think it's quite common. I don't think my pre-baby maternity leave is going to be quite the relaxing nap-fest I had in mind though!

Siarie · 28/02/2015 17:29

Skyra just worth mentioning that second hand car seats are notrecommended as their previous history is unknown and damage from previous accidents aren't always visible.

I'm knackered! Walking over London today has tired me out, someone offered me a seat on the tube though! That's a first.

FiRaffe · 28/02/2015 17:40

Ooh nice to get a seat Sairie!

Went to watch our local team play rugby this afternoon....walking back to the car though, I definitely looked like some kind of pregnant hunchback! Really stylish......hehe

AnniaFausta · 28/02/2015 17:51

Ta, Lauren - I'm 5'5, so 65 it is.

Brixton, it just amuses me because one of DH's conditions on when we started TTC was that we'd bought our own house and moved in! Didn't have to have the house sorted (much), but we did have to be through the door and have started on things. He said he thought we'd have enough on our hands with a newborn without worrying about house things too!

MoominMama22 · 28/02/2015 18:00

Skyra I've got a second hand car seat. Im trusting enough in fellow human beings that they wouldn't sell one that had been in an accident , if I ever had any sort of "bump" I'd get a new seat and bin the old one even if it looked fine Its like motorbike helmets, drop them and they might be useless in an accident... But I wouldn't worry! I have tried to get EVERYTHING second hand think its madness to buy new tbh, for all the use things get.

annia I had loads of questions about what exact size of ball I should use... And my physio looked at me like I was crazy. They are all much of a muchness and she pointed out you just pump it up to get the exact size and firmness that suits. I use an old yoga one of my mums I quite like it when its a bit flat! Smile

Crikey good luck to everyone moving and decorating and floors coming up etc... I'm stressed enough with our kitchen still in progress and furniture to build. Couldn't contemplate moving !!!

35 weeks today :)

ChickenMe · 28/02/2015 18:01

My ball was 75cm and I'm 5'4" and it's fine. Smile

Lauren82000 · 28/02/2015 18:09

I guess it depends how long your legs are. I'm only 5'3 and I'm long in the bod. So I bought a 65cm one.

I got the info from google though so if it's wrong apologies. Blush
