They haven't found a reason why my eyes went funny Nunkie ( they are still the same today) but it was reassuring to know it wasn't pre eclampsia, if it gets worse get checked. I was stressing myself out so much i think it made it worse!

Siarie my renal obstetrician told me electronic bp home readers ( which she told me to buy grrr) aren't reliable in then end stages of pregnancy. So just be cautious on the readings if thats what your using.

Were so close to the end now, if in doubt check the last thing we'd want is anything happening to any of our ladies and soon to be babies.

My panic on tuesday has made everyone at work OTT on being kind and worrying. One extreme to the other, but nice all the least! Back to my midwife today... fun and games!

On a positive packed my hospital bag yesterday, must stop buying baby clothes have about 8 outfits and thats without and family members buyig any which they all keep talking about. And as everyone says so many 24hr shops in manchester hubby can go buy anything else we need!

ChickenMe · 12/02/2015 10:48

I think I've thought Ive got every disease at one point or another Confused
I do a lot of research - the downside of that is you get paranoid.

kismac · 12/02/2015 11:06

Just been told by a work colleague that I look hot and puffy. Eh? My blood pressure is always really good.

Thank you for my new name. I love it. Makes me sound like a superhero. Jam head to the rescue!

Holly, glad you got checked out. Hopefully, your eyes sort themselves out.

MustBeDueSomeBetterFeet · 12/02/2015 11:14

Hi all - so I need some advice....

I've been suffering with what I thought was thrush since October - been to and fro to the GP. They did a swab last week and it's come back as Group B Strep.

So, my question is - does anyone know how concerned I need to be? The NHS website is frankly terrifying!

My GP is going to speak to the hospital and find out how they want to treat it and get back to me...

smogsville · 12/02/2015 11:20

Hi MustBeDue

I had it in first preg. They should put big yellow stickers on the front of your notes and you need to agree (now) to antibiotics (intravenous I think) in labour which protect the baby as it makes it way down the birth canal. Baby is only at risk of infection during labour - not while safely hanging out in the womb. The stickers are so anyone treating you knows straightaway that you have the infection so carry your notes everywhere with you.

Provided you agree to these antibiotics my understanding is there is basically zero risk of baby being infected. You and baby will probably have to stay up to 48 hrs in hospital after birth for observations.

Agree the website terrifying, I think it's probably to make sure people say yes to the drugs.

Hidingthefear · 12/02/2015 11:25

Very helpful nunkie, I shall show that to DH seen as he doesn't see a problem with putting the baby in the wardrobe drawers lol. I told him he could take a novelty photo but that's as far as it goes lol

Thanks Smogs - that's very reassuring!!

smogsville · 12/02/2015 12:17

MustBeDue - you're welcome, do check it all with your mw though just to make sure it's up to date - this was 2011.

Lauren82000 · 12/02/2015 12:53

I feel so tired today, could quite easily curl up at my desk and nod off. Plus my bump is really achy, feels like I've got tummy ache.

I've somehow got to find the energy to go shopping after work as well. Sad just want to go home and sleep.

Siarie · 12/02/2015 13:01

Lauren I could have written your post, my bump is achey and I'm really tired. Although I may go for a nap now!

Lauren82000 · 12/02/2015 13:07

Lucky you being able to Siarie I'm very jealous! I have another 2 hours at work, then off to pick DD up from her Great Grandma's house (with a short stop for a quick brew, might have to make it a proper coffee not decaff), then go and pick DH up from work, to then go shopping.

Wineandchoccy · 12/02/2015 14:21

Mmm I have just had a McDonalds, sweet chilli wrap, chips and fanta it was amazing Grin

I had a rubbish nights sleep then had to meet my boss and have an emergency meeting with a grumpy customer so Mcdonalds was my treat for getting through this morning.

Going to tour the stand alone birthing centre near us tonight to compare it with the one attached to the hospital we visited on Saturday.

cinnamongreyhound · 12/02/2015 14:50

So annoyed!!! Had my appointment at my local hospital (which I called and questioned when I got it and was told it was to fill them in on what was going on in case I went into labour and had to go there). After being kept waiting about 40mins I was called into a scanning room where she said she was going to scan me. I explained that I was being scanned every 3 weeks anyway and was due another on Tuesday so she said it was pointless. Sat down for 20 more mins and was called into doctor (who had apparently spoken to consultant) only to be told she didn't know why I was there! I said I was told it was to fill them in on what had been going on in case I had to I've birth there. She said that all the notes were forwarded to them so they knew everything anyway and genuinely had no idea why I was there! Asked if I had any questions, I said that I was still interested in having the baby there but she said she couldn't advise and I should go with whatever they advise at addenbrookes. So a wasted morning totally and then a car park charge on top :(

TinyTear · 12/02/2015 15:15

eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeekkkkkkk

Newbie might be a Marchie... they will book my section next appointment (in 2 weeks) to 38 weeks, so week commencing 28th March

eeeeeeekkkkkkk

TheBooMonster · 12/02/2015 15:29

omg cinnamon how annoying!! especially as you'd phoned up and questioned it, I'd have at the least kicked up a fuss about the parking charge...

ooooh! tiny how insanely real is it feeling now?!

TinyTear · 12/02/2015 15:48

SCARILY real!

PenguinPoser · 12/02/2015 15:59

kismac made me giggle with jam in your hair! Grin

mustbedue echoing what smogs said about the group b strep, as long as you have IV antibiotics in labour the risks are very low of baby being affected. So try not to worry - I know it's easier said than done as I'm worrying too which will explain in a minute!

Wine so jealous of your mcdonalds! Wouldn't normally excite me that much but I think baby likes mcdonalds!

cinnamon that is so annoying!! What a waste of time. Probably an administration mix up. I would be annoyed too.

Tiny I will likely be having a march baby too now, scary! Just back from consultant appt. growth scan was fine baby around 4lb12 which is perfect for 33w, consultant described my liver bloods as "through the roof", and seemed just worried enough about the cholestasis to keep me worried! She wants weekly bloods, repeat scan and clinic in 2 weeks and aim for baby to stay in until after 36w, ideally she said steroids at 36+ and induction of labour at 37 weeks. Don't suppose there's anything else I can do apart from take the meds, just know I'm going to be anxious until baby arrives now and counting every kick and poke!

minipie · 12/02/2015 16:12

Afternoon all! So much to catch up on, I feel a bit behind!

Siarie I might have actually dribbled a bit on my keyboard at your cake pic - stupid gestational diabetes diet, gah. I NEED CAKE.

Sounds like quite a few of us might end up with pre 40 week babies for one reason or another. Penguin sorry to hear of diagnosis but so glad you got checked. Tiny wow, having an actual date will be exciting if a bit terrifying! Nunkie do you know why you and your sis were premature? and how early?

MustBe yes my understanding is that the risk from Group B strep is pretty much eliminated if you have IV antibiotics during birth. I had to have the IV antib's last time as was higher risk for GBS due to waters possibly having broken >12 hours before contractions. The IV might mean MLU/water birth is not allowed though - I'm not sure.

I looked into GBS testing last time and decided not to because a) it comes and goes and b) because it comes and goes, I don't think the NHS will pay much attention to the test result anyway! But I will say to everyone, if your waters go more than 12 hours before contractions, you are at higher risk for Group B Strep and need to make sure you get IV antibiotics - this should be standard practice but my friend didn't get any and her little girl got GBS and was very very ill at birth.

Sending a big hug for daholster, hope you can get through the weekend ok.

daholster and hiding I can relate regarding DH job change - DH had a job offer yesterday which on the plus side is exciting and he might be able to take a month off before starting (hooray)... but on the downside, once he starts it's going to be very full on, loads of late nights, weekend working and stress and probably travelling too (boo). I'm hoping he could negiotate to only start in July or at least June... I have this massively overoptimistic idea that life will be calmer by then!

Baby toiletries - we used nothing apart from water and occasional sudocrem and olive or almond oil on DD for aaaages (like a year I think?) but then she was a little baldy so didn't need shampoo, might be different for babies with a good thatch.

FiRaffe · 12/02/2015 16:13

Oh Penguin -at least you're getting the treatment you need and it's better to have baby here safe early and we'll than either of you suffer. Fingers crossed the bloods improve.
Was it the itching that gave it away? Just wondering as my hands and feet seem to be alternating which is itching (generally only if I get too warm I think )

Hidingthefear · 12/02/2015 16:32

It's hard isn't it minipie ! Especially when you're trying not to be selfish. I know he doesn't like his job, he actually says he hates it and he's bored and miserable, but sometimes I think it's better the devil you know. Especially seen as any other job he gets will be further away meaning less time at home and financially we'd be worse off due to travel, and most likely a slight decrease in salary. As we can only afford 1 car it would mean I'm stranded while he's at work and I'm off with baby. All relatives are more than 1 bus journey away or costly taxis, Not want I want with a baby on the way.

After all the talk of weight I decided to weigh myself earlier. Not only have I not gained any weight in the last month I've now lost nearly 3 lbs in the last week and a bit. My only comfort is that on Tuesday mw said baby was fine and bump was still measuring well.

cinnamon how frustrating with hospital! Left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing sometimes. I've just had a letter today (well same letter twice actually) from my gp to say they they have had a letter from A&E and doctor says I should request a non urgent appointment with my gp. apparently a phone consult isn't ok so I've got an appointment on Tuesday morning, last time something like this happened the doctor asked what W's wrong and I aid nothing, I was told to come. I was only in A&E for rehydration so not sure why I have to see my gp.

That nappystash website is brill boo thanks! DH even said he thought cloth would be good and he'd use them, it was me that turned the idea down originally so I might mention it again.

OP posts:
minipie · 12/02/2015 16:45

Hiding yes I'm a better the devil you know person too. I also think when we have a new baby is not the best time for DH to start a new job since he won't be on top form at work due to sleepless nights and/or he won't be able to slack a bit finish a bit early and come home to help me with bedtime! But, but, I can see it's a great opportunity - just wish it had come up in 6 months' time...

However it sounds like your DH hasn't found a specific job to move to? In that position I'd be saying "by all means look around but please no job move until the summer as your current job will work best while we work out which end is up with this baby!"

cinnamon missed your post, how annoying especially after you checked! What a waste of everyone's time.

smogsville · 12/02/2015 17:05

Hiding and minipie - my DH is starting his new job in two weeks. Ideally he would have started a few months earlier but what can you do. It's further away and obviously he will be trying to make a good impression so hours longer but it's more money which is what we're going to need as I'm unlikely to be able to go back this time. Also pleased for him as he needed a change and had rather exhausted the opportunities at his current place. Can either of you rely massively on your mums/ other rellies if your OHs change jobs before baby comes? That's my plan, mainly to help out with DD tbh.

Tiny - I'm quite jealous of yours coming at 38 wks. My section's booked for 39+1 so I'm slightly terrified that he might try to bust out early. Not that DD did but it would be most inconvenient if he were to come when mum and dad in sodding Antigua first ten days of April. Having said that friends a few streets away with a SAHM to two slightly older girls is happy to take DD at any time of the day or night so at least we have a plan that doesn't involve taking DD with me to hospital in labour in a taxi!

On that note I popped out this after and bought a pot of bottom butter, a tube of lansinoh and a vial of arnica tablets so the hospital bag is edging towards completion. I just need some newborn nappies now.

I've gone through my diary and blacked out every remaining free weekend from now until 16th April so we don't end up putting loads of social commitments in and have no time for all the house and garden work I've got planned for DH!

Cinnamon my sympathies. That's very very irritating.

Penguin - glad you're being monitored and tended to. Sorry you're having extra worries though Brew

minipie · 12/02/2015 17:16

smogs good luck to your DH! At least that gives him best part of 2 months to get himself established before your baby arrives. Dh wouldn't move till April earliest - and April's not ideal obviously, and my mum's away most of May and first bit of June. Hopefully he could push any move to late June though... Curious though, why won't you be able to go back to work this time? is it childcare costs?

TheBooMonster · 12/02/2015 17:46

hiding they're super fast with delivery too, seem to recall my samples turned up next day!

DH has ordered me some goodies! I'm dying to open the parcel but it's addressed to him so I'm having to wait (just as well as his mum started sniffing round it the second I closed the front door)

this whole being housebound thing is awesome, I've done a whole weeks shop from the comfort of my sofa, and saved £20 by doing it at Asda rather than Tesco! Would it be bad of me to spend that £20 on a blender that has the sole purpose of making smoothies? I've borrowed this gigantic blender food processor thing from PiL bt it's huge just packaged up, it'll be a monster out of the box and seems a bit excessive for just making smoothies....

hiding and mini my DH hates his job, with a passion, and he's forever looking elsewhere, he gets so excited every time he finds a job he likes the look of, and starts planning out his letter of resignation etc but then nothing comes of it and I'm a shit human being but I'm always relieved when the deadline passes and he hears nothing, because he's got so comfortable in his job and the bad habits he's been allowed to form that I'm not sure he'd make it through probation anywhere else, and we really can't afford for him to not be in work :S

The teeny tiny clothes are in the washer! they're in! as soon as they're dry my hospital bags will be packed packed packed!
