Definitely check it out PenguinPoser!

Sorry you've had a bad night daholster! I got 8 hrs last night and it does make a huge difference, hope tonight and Thursday are better nights before your madness Friday and sorry to hear about your manic shift!

I had similar with ds1 RL20 before I had my antiD. This time it was just a jab, so no time listening to my baby first!

Hope you get your water birth FiRaffe, I had a BMI of 35 with ds2 and was signed off at the end but no one ever weighed me again which annoyed me as I lost 10kg in the first trimester and didn't gain it all back by the time I had him. By 3 weeks post delivery I was 12Kg lighter than when I got pregnant with bfing too.

I have gained 7Kg but it's slowed down last few weeks, I get hungry often but mainly because I can't eat huge portions so I don't get filled up for long.

Make sure you're looking after yourself EbwyIsUpTheDuff!

That's horrible IveGotACaveTroll, she'll be cross?!?

I can only assume it was a sales pitch SquattingNeville.

My cold has now developed into a cough and my abs are aching!

cinnamongreyhound · 11/02/2015 14:07

Sorry x-posts daholster, hope she drifts off soon. Don't worry about shopping and a week off swimming won't hurt!

Wineandchoccy · 11/02/2015 14:20

Went to 2nd antenatal class last night, DH thought it was informative but I can't say I learnt much. It was all very preachy, breast feeding you must do it, no dummies, routines etc it's all well and good telling you this but what happens if breast feeding doesn't work, baby will only settle with a dummy and the routine goes out of the window?!

My friend who is expecting her 4th baby was there and she said you do whatever works for your baby and you and that her other children hadn't read the instruction manual so she guesses this one won't have either and the lady running the class gave her a right filthy look Grin

My arm feels like a lead weight today after my whooping cough vaccine, I have aquanatal tonight I hope it's gentle movement tonight.

I have no idea how much weight I have put on as midwife does not weigh me at appts and I don't have any scales, might weigh myself in Boots next time I'm passing.

Lauren82000 · 11/02/2015 14:43

I too was curious about that one. Wink Was too busy researching dining tables and sending links to DH instead of working. Blush

I'd be complaining about that phone call. There are laws against harassing people off sick. Get HR to give them a good telling off. Smile

RL20 · 11/02/2015 15:12

WineandChoccy I can't believe that in this day and age they are still allowed to preach so much at the antenatal classes, about matters that are so personal! I'm due to start a 4 week block (1 day a week obviously) of antenatal classes in early March so I hope they don't start all of that business!

Cavetroll I agree with everyone else, I would put in a complaint to Head Office/HR as that's not on at all!

On the subject of chocolate, I've just got back from Asda with my mum and I accidentally bought a box of Black Magic chocolates Confused They were only £3 I couldn't resist! My mum had a box of them the other day and I had a coffee one and a raspberry one and they were soo nice.
And it's probably a good thing now but I haven't managed to find any scales to weigh myself at yet. My mum doesn't have any at her house either!

Has anyone packed their hospital bag yet?
Was speaking to a colleague about when she gave birth early last year (or late 2013) and she was 5 weeks early and was due to go on maternity leave that day! She had lower back pain/aches and everyone was telling her to get to the hospital but she didn't believe she was in labour because she was only around 35 weeks. She ended up having her little boy that night! He was all well and healthy and it was a relatively normal, natural birth!
So I'll definitely be packing my hospital bag soon as soon as I have bought the last few bits that I need for it!

minipie · 11/02/2015 15:36

Wine I agree with your friend! Before DD I had this idea that she would go to sleep at X times, in her basket, and be fed Y times a day... turned out she had other ideas! Will go with the flow much more on this one.

I am very pro BF but I think it's unhelpful when antenatal classes gloss over how difficult it can be. It makes people think "ok they never mentioned problems so it clearly isn't working for me" when in fact common problems can be easily solved with the right help. It would be much more sensible if antenatal classes were up front about why it can often be hard and where to find help/how to solve common problems.

I have no idea about weight gain either, though suspect it's slowed down since the GD diet started. My bump is GIANT though - weirdly I am still quite slim around the waist, the baby is all out the front as if I've stuck a beachball up my dress!

Cave that's awful. Ignore ignore ignore. And if she does it again, report her to HR.

Siarie · 11/02/2015 15:37

Oh man I have it easy right now, today has gone like so.

Decided that I was going to compile a "last baby items list" as me and DH have agreed to get it all done this evening. That including buying hospital bag items.

Booked a wax, they could fit me in for the afternoon! Great.

Watched a bunch of birth videos on YouTube (started with the one linked, thanks hiding!)

Went to said wax then popped to the shops, picked up items to make Betty Crocker chocolate Devils cake. I had been craving said cake since yesterday.

Picked up a Starbucks coffee for the short walk home. I'm now feeling a bit tired so going to have a rest on the sofa.

Life is sure going to be different when this baby arrives.

cinnamongreyhound · 11/02/2015 16:09

Totally agree minipie, I think if people were more told more realistic expectations of bf, less would 'fail' or feel that they'd failed and seek help quicker.

My antenatal classes were nice, we we shown a water birth, a birth involving quite a few drugs and a cs. We had quite a lot of time talking about positions, breathing and managing pain as well as what your partner could do to help. Lots of practical tips about things you may or may not do during labour. Explanation about latching for bf with a knitted boob and baby and well as same baby used with plastic pelvis to explain what is happening to your body during labour and why things happen. We also discussed ff and how to sterilise etc and people talking about what they were hoping for re labor and feeding. Never told how to establish a routine though.

I thought I'd be massively routine based as I like to organised and I'm quite a control freak but once I was there I was very much guided by my babies. Personally I couldn't leave a baby clearly crying for milk because it hasn't been x amount of time since their last feed.

Cavetroll that is ridiculous, the consultant probably just doesn't want to finish the audit herself. Could be delegated to a junior maybe? You definitely shouldn't be doing work related things when you are clearly signed off as not fit to work!

Siarie sounds like a nice day. You've reminded me I must make an appointment to get my hair cut before baby arrives, or I won't have time until goodness knows when!

I phoned up the other day about a breast feeding workshop at my local sure start centre, just realised from reading above that I haven't heard back! There's one next week that I want to get on if possible as the next one is mid march and depending how things go from now baby could be here by then. Must ring them again tomorrow.

I've packed the baby hospital bag... Will tell you what I've put in it and please tell me if I've forgotten anything...!
2 x tiny baby vests and sleep suits (just in case)
4 x newborn size vests and sleep suits
2 x hats
Booties and scratch mits
Knitted cardigan
Cellular blanket
Comforter
Pack 24 x newborn nappies
Pack of water wipes
3 x muslins

I won't need any baby toiletries will I?

TheBooMonster · 11/02/2015 17:23

our hospital said no baths for the first three days if I remember correctly penguin so you shouldn't need toiletries as such, but it might be worth having some bum cream.

I've contacted a local wax bar about an appointment to have my everything waxed at 34 and 38 weeks O.o It's been a while since I've been able to see the garden and after Sundays experience with the speculum I've remembered just how traumatised I was by the hair at DD's birth Blush

FiRaffe · 11/02/2015 17:34

Thanks ladies for all the comments about water birth. Fingers are staying crossed until March(making typing much fun!)

We got an estimated delivery date for the car seat this morning too, so feeling much happier about that.

Thankfully our NCT ladies weren't pushy about anything. Very much these are the facts, this is what we might suggest, but we don't know each of your situations so you need to find what suits you. I'm glad because generally if someone tells me to do something I go for the opposite!

RL20 · 11/02/2015 17:36

Penguin thanks for your list! Are you expecting a small baby? I haven't bought anything in tiny baby sizes or even newborn I've gone for all 0-3 months because I'm having a boy and my mum suggested 0-3 as my brother was a little chunk! Which I know doesn't necessarily mean anything. I was around average weight. Wondering whether I should get at least one smaller outfit though just incase? Hmm

BananaToast · 11/02/2015 17:47

RL20 I've gone for Next up to 1 month size (which fit up to 10lbs) as a compromise between newborn (which generally seems to be up to 7lbs) and 0-3 months. I'm hoping baby won't be more than 10lbs! And figure I can buy smaller things if I find I need them.

Lauren82000 · 11/02/2015 17:53

Probably a good idea RL even if you just get 1 newborn sleep suit. Just because your bro was a chunk doesn't mean your going to have a chunk. Smile As small as 0-3 looks it is pretty massive on a 7or8lb baby.

PenguinPoser · 11/02/2015 17:57

I wasn't going to get tiny baby things RL20 but was diagnosed with obstetric cholestasis yesterday and the registrar told me they usually induce labour at 37-38 weeks (although seeing consultant tomorrow so she will decide!) so I panicked and bought a few smaller things just incase! Having a growth scan tomorrow so might be good to get an idea of current size. Was looking at my 0-3 month things which I think are from Next and they look huuuuge! So have got some up to 1 month things from there too. Really have no clue what I'm doing just buying random cute clothes that I like!

Thanks Boo that's what I thought about baths, but can pop the bum cream in Smile

Hidingthefear · 11/02/2015 18:21

Funny you should mention bum cream boo last week at antenatel we were told we wouldn't need any baby toiletries and that we shouldnt need any sudocrem or similar as babies skin is too sensitive :/ my nan thought it was nonsense and another midwife said "oh they change their minds all the time, use your instincts". I have a little pot I got in a bounty pack so will pop that in my bag I think.
I've got about 5 vests and sleep suits in newborn and in 0-3 figured ill take a couple of each and we can buy more once we know how big he is. In this day and age there's pretty much nothing you can't get next day. I'll probably pack my bag once I'm at 35 weeks. Although everything is in his room anyway so it wouldn't take long to do. will still pack one even if I have a homebirth just in case.
Our antenatel class last week was ok and not preechy. The mw and trainees she had with her just said don't worry about the conflicting advice and routines you get told will work. just know that it's your baby and you'll soon learn what works for you both, they're all different.
They kinda skirted over breastfeeding. We've been given a leaflet for a breastfeeding workshop for people expecting babies which I thought was good so that they're not ramming it down the throats of those who don't want to bf or can't bf for any reason, and if you want the info you can go join other mums who feel the same. Only problem is that it's during the the day so I'd need to take time of work. Might say it's a doctor's appointment or something :/
Off sick until Monday now so that's a whopping £86 or so ill get to look forward to for next week's wage :( ah well, people keep saying I have more than just me to think about and I know they're right, just so hard when there's financial implications.
DH still keeps looking for new jobs, don't think this bug he has to find a new job is going to dissappear. Hoping if he can just hang on until baby is here he'll see how lucky we have it that he works 10 mins away, doesn't work weekends, has a salary that can support us both and we can still use 1 car.
penguin it's soo hard when little clothes are soo cute isn't it! I'm gonna keep tags in until he wears them so that at least if I need to sell them I can pop them on ebay easily enough and recoup some losses lol

daholster · 11/02/2015 18:24

Can't waste phone battery but sitting in broken down car on way back from swimming waiting for the rac. Luckily friend lives nearby and brought me a cup of tea and a kit Kat and dd some dinner! RAC estimate 19.13... We'll see!

TheBooMonster · 11/02/2015 18:33

well hiding my theory was that I remember having to scrape newborn poo off DD's bum, so if I can whip something on there before it happens it will be more comfortable for bump and easier for me :P I've got some unscented CJ's bottom butter in a teeny little sample pot.

Urgh, the crampy pain is back, all I did was make dinner, which took all of about 10 minutes and for some reason smells like feet to me despite the fact that DH says it's fine and I'm in agony. I feel like an entirely shit mummy for almost hoping that we do hear that bump's growth has slowed at next weeks scan because they'll get her out faster and I can start taking something worthwhile for the pain :/

The smallest that we actively bought prebirth for DD was the up to 7.5lb stuff, and we got perhaps as many as 8 sleep suits in that size, and a single pack of vests (figured that no one would notice big vests under smaller sleep suits) But when she came she was 4lb7 so got lost in the 7.5lb stuff we had and we've ended up with a fair amount of

IvegotaCaveTroll · 11/02/2015 18:38

Hthanks for ur support everyone- if this consultant says anything else il ask her to email it me so I have evidence. She's a bitch to all the registrars so if I complained she would deny it.

On the positive my obstetrician wants to induce me by 39 weeks as she said I'm going to really struggle with my stupid back and it would be unfair to put me through any longer- they also said people with chronic conditions often go into labour a little early (but not too early I hope).

I will need to stay in hospital at least 24 hours after birth due to my medication but she says that's being overly cautious and it's just a precaution- she was so nice I cried!!

I'm so bored off work- I thought I'd love it but I dont. Iv washed all the baby clothes and packed most of mine and all babies hospital bag. Sadly my sewing machines in for repairs.

I agree with everyone about all the conflicting advice on baby things- cosmetics say suitable from birth and then some midwives say not! Complicated.

Sorry monster post I will now stop rambling but I AM REALLY BORED

IvegotaCaveTroll · 11/02/2015 18:40

Can u not put babies in clothes that are a little bit too big?

daholster · 11/02/2015 18:44

You can buy their legs curl up into the foetal position and get stuck in the body of the suit... He's here! Rac man!

FiRaffe · 11/02/2015 19:01

Glad he's arrived earlier than expected daholster - hope it's fixed easily.

Hidingthefear · 11/02/2015 19:05

boo just tried to Google it, is it this stuff CJ I thought not using anything on their bum would have caused more problems, so I'm glad you mentioned the stuck poo issue!
Considering some reusable nappies for use when I'm at home. Just want a sample to look at as I've no idea on reusables. do you need liners with them? And do you just scrape the majority of the mess off and then do you soak in nappy San or put them in the washing machine? Would still use disposables if I'm visiting people or at night time for ease. Just curious And would consider reusable.
